This is the second time I have been to the Drifter Motel in Silver City in the past couple of years. Frankly, my first visit was so memorable that, when I happened to be in the area travelling (and it as the right time of day) it was a no-brainer to return. Understand that this is a budget motel. You are not going to get five-star accommodations here. That is alright so long as you know what you are getting into in the first place. The beds were comfortable, the manager and his family are wonderful people (I wasn't escorted this time because it was just the son working the night shift, but we still got a pair of water bottles complementary for our stay that evening, which is more than you can say about any of the bigger chains!) There are some obvious live-ins staying in the upper rooms, but they aren't a problem... heck, realistically they are kind of a good thing, because they are looking over things as much as the owners are! In the morning, breakfast is served across the parking lot at the Drifter Parking Lot (both are owned by the same folks... the owner came in while we were eating breakfast to get a carafe of coffee for the office) as a part of your room cost, and you can order anything off of the menu excluding the steak, which is quite reasonable. For our entire three week trip across the country, it was the second best breakfast we had. I am so glad that after two years, this motel is still maintaining the standards that I observed the first time I stayed! read more

We chose the drifter after reading the reviews (rated 8) and looking at the pictures. However, as we arrived I was with sure we were at the wrong location. The pictures show a well keep, neat clean exterior. Not the case...there was trash actions the grounds, broken bottles, dead grass and foliage, clutter and furniture on the second story balcony. Grease on pavement, broken down vehicles, broken furniture in the area with an old grill. I was shocked. Exterior pictures must be from many years past. The inside was clean and neat. Linens new and clean. Not a problem with the room. Took A/C long time to get to a cool point, not really comfortable but it was over 100 outside. VERY DISAPPOINTED! Should update pictures. read more

Decent place for a nights stay! OWNERS NEED TO REMOVE THE PHOTOS OF THE POOL! There is NO POOL HERE! It's been filled in with dirt! In December 2017 my dad and I were traveling from Laguna Beach to Nashville Tn in a 67 Dodge Campwagon. Unfortunately the van broke down but we found this motel for the night and were truly surprised. Here at this little motel we were walked to our room and they made sure we were ok with it and the next morning we had a massive complimentary feast that included everything but steak. Bait and switch, smoke in mirrors, whatever you want to call it is what happened to us. When looking online at photos we saw newly remodeled rooms with clean bathrooms, tile, beds etc. During our booking we specifically asked for a no smoking room as we already passed up our first choice hotel that didn't have any available. We were told we would get one, okay great. So we get to our room and it smells strongly of smoke and the room is just gross, there's no other way to describe it. After contemplating what to do next, as we have our two dogs with us, we don't have many options and decide to stay. We asked for a non-smoking room and was told we were in one... uh okay. The room was old, dirty, rank, and dusty. But no bedbugs, The next morning I am approached by the owner because he wants to move us. So I am curious at this point and agree, low and behold! Alas! We are placed in one of these nicer remodeled rooms it is was much more acceptable. I would only return if we were guaranteed a new and remodeled room. Otherwise no. read more

The owners are trying very hard to renovate an older property. The good - awesome bed, new furnishings, linens are new, the room is very clean. The TV, refrigerator, and microwave are new and they have free wifi. The bad - While the owners were sweet and nice, the office where you check in is a mess. The room keys are physical keys that actually only work the lower lock. The non-smoking rooms smell faintly of old smoke. The sink and tub have cracks in them, cosmetic only, but still not attractive. The ugly - The property is clearly being renovated. There is a toilet sitting in the breezeway for the last 24 hours. The pool is closed, probably permanently from the looks of it. The whole property looks a little sketchy. If I had not booked it ahead of time, I would have driven right past. Conclusion - a clean, comfortable room at a decent price, wrapped in a dirty paper bag. read more

Their website offers free wi-fi in public areas... but I found out that it's coming from across the street at their "sister" location and you can't get it in the MOTEL. Their website offers HBO... NO, they do NOT HAVE HBO! Their website say's they have a pool... well, an EMPTY pool! The place is literally falling apart... un-usable stairways.... filthy carpets and if you're wanting a good night's sleep... good luck! Take our word... stay somewhere else!! read more

I would have to say that I was not sure what to expect and crossing my fingers for a decent night stay. We had been held up by car trouble and were tired and needed a place to stay. I booked over the phone and then we drove the 40 minutes to the Drifter Motel. We met Ms. Lee at the office and she was a character! In a the best possible way! She let us know that breakfast was included in the morning at the diner with "the best coffee," and let me tell you this was a REAL breakfast, you could order anything off the menu except steak. The coffee was very nice, but it was cute how she had talked it up the night before. The room was very clean, had hardwood laminate flooring, which is so much nicer than gross motel carpet. She gave us each a bottle of water too, and then her husband, or business partner personally escorted us to our room. Nice touch. They also have a laundry facility there (because they rent out rooms monthly, which was why I was thinking it may not be such a savory place, but glad I was proven wrong.) And this gentlemen since it was late went above and beyond in making sure we could do a load (we had been on the road from the east coast for over a week.) Thanks Ms. Lee and other dude, we really needed that peaceful night sleep after a very hard day and that's exactly what we got! read more

The motel looks nothing like the pictures when you get there. It is dirty and run down. The lobby was such a mess. Behind the counter, it looked like there had been an explosion in the file cabinet, with piles of paperwork strewn everywhere. There was an awful stench like food garbage in the lobby. I smelled roaches burning strongly outside the maintenance room. I was so turned off, I got the heck out of there and didnt even stay one night. Whoever that guy is that said he'd give it six stars must be getting paid to write bogus reviews. Yap, much adoo about nothin. This is a great motel,50's look. They are changing out the furniture for up dated look.the room was clean. The have great tv selections. The owners are really nice. The place was quiet too. Convenient to many things. The bed we had was the best one I ever slept in. We usually stay st Marriott s because if points.i had s great nice sleep. I had stayed at this motel for one night for work. I was absolutely blown away by the customer service, the cleanliness, and the comfort of the room. It had a mini fridge, microwave, tv, internet, coffee pot, and seriously comfortable bed with soft sheets. So I inquired about monthly rates and they informed me that was available. My choices were for a room that fully remodeled or partially. Based on my one night stay, I choose the fully remodeled room. I was so pleased. They did not pro-rate because they said they make it easy to discontinue the stay if my schedule changes. Unfortunately, I was disappointed to the utmost extreme. The room I placed in was like something out of a horror film. It was covered in a fine dust from top to bottom. Like someone had done some Sheetrock and failed to clean up after sanding. The TV consul was in the middle of the room, and the tv was disconnected from the outlet. There was a dead roach in the floor. The sink faucet was broken and clogged. There was no coffee pot. A desk with no chair. A random coffee table and a bed. The outlets did not work. And the sketchy neighbors stood outside your door and smoked all day. So, I questioned the management. They informed me that it was up to me to figure out how to work the sink faucet, the fine dust was because of the one inch gap under the door( no it wasn't . It's was obvious they just did some constructive and the fine dust was white.) I explained this was not ok and they were quick to tell me to get out and they would refund me. I work nights, so when I was able to see this room fully it was the morning after I reserved. So the management told me they were going to refund me. Half-awake, and completely flabbergasted by their change in behavior, I requested the refund. Then I hear" oops!". Oops? The management decided to double charge me, emptying my bank account. I said I did not authorize this! They said if I didn't sign the receipt that they accidentally charged, I would not be refunded. Long story short, it's been 48 hours, and still no refund. I'm stranded but thankfully have an emergency credit card until I get paid. I have a car payment coming out that will be bounced. I have enough gas to go to work but not to return to my hometown. This place is absolutely horrid! I am tempted to file a police report on these scam artists! One night stay was wonderful. But if you want honesty and hospitality this place is not it! Update: so I end up have 3 overdraft charges because of this woman. I call my bank and they tell me it's up to this hotel to refund me. Going out on a limb, I drive over there to explain to them that they've left me stranded and now I have overdraft charges and they would have to take care of these since it was her fault.The woman stood up and started yelling at me "no! No! No!" With her finger in my face completely denying she double charged me. At this point I needed to call the police for fear of my safety. Eventually she admitted it was her fault and agreed to repay my overdraft charges. What an absolute nightmare! They left me stranded in a city, in a dumpy hotel, and then deny helping me? Totally disgusted with this business. read more

This motel is the best rate in town without sacrificing comfort, cleanliness, safety etc... Rented 2 rooms for a week and both rooms were updated, clean, smelled good, clean sheets, towels and I think it's a brand new bed too.. oh and they even have toothbrushes and toothpaste for their guests.. for the rate they gave me I got a really good deal. Okay it's not like staying at the Marriott or The Hilton but this motel is really clean and the owners were super nice and accommodating and very very hospitable. You won't regret staying at this motel :) I will definitely stay here again the next time we're in town. read more

It isn't fancy, but it is a great deal! For years when I traveled for business I stayed at the Drifter - the breakfast would almost be enough to sell the place. It's easy to find, and it's easy to stay there. No hassle getting checked in and no hassle with a room that isn't properly prepared. This week my parents checked in on my recommendation. Mom is particular when it comes to hotel cleanliness ... first words in her text to me were, "it's clean and then clean some more!" It's places like the Drifter that put the fun back in traveling. If you're looking for an Embassy Suites, keep driving. If you're looking for an economical place to stay that delivers on the promise of a good night's stay, the Drifter is the one!
