We spent five days in Silver City, NM last week and were so pleased to have been referred to the Serenity House Bed & Breakfast on the edge of the downtown area. Rebekka and her lovely family could not have been more gracious and considerate. Try this gorgeously restores gem of an accommodation and sleep in an unreal comfy bed with your own private room and bathroom. The kitchen is easily accessible and the prepared breakfast is out of this world EXCELLENT. Quiche, meats, toast and juice are just a few items. The menu is different daily. I was in Silver City on business and my wife and I decided to follow business with a long weekend. Stumbled on Serenity House quite by accident and I'm glad we did. Rebekka is so friendly and welcoming, I felt like we were staying with family or college chums. She also seems to know everyone and everywhere in town. Along with her knowledge of the area and its history, she is able to arrange for you to visit just about anything you may have an interest in experiencing. Breakfast was wonderful. Just the right mix of sweet, savory and healthy, and oh, the coffee! Roasted and sold by the nearby Benedictine monastery which we had the pleasure of experiencing on a beautifully sunny Sunday morning. The historic building that is Serenity House is interesting, charming and comfortable. We had the 2nd floor room with jetted tub and loved it. I felt a little bad about creaky floors bothering others but no one complained and in a building of this kind, it can't be helped. The porch and gazebo are very nicely structured and decorated for relaxation. Midnight, the worlds most "chill" cat was a pleasant plus. The location is ideal, walking distance from practically everything you need in Silver City while still managing to stay out of the hustle and bustle of the main drag. A far cry from the typical location of motels on a service strip. I can't say enough good things and look forward to going back. read more

It was just a lucky fluke that we were able to get a room at this cute historical house in Silver City. We had resigned ourselves to having to stay in a hotel when my husband saw this option online. He called and Rebekka had a room/suite available for the dates we needed. Such a beautiful home with two sitting areas, a dining room where we enjoyed lovely breakfasts with the other guests each morning, a huge front porch, and a nice covered area in the yard if you wanted to sit outside. She has several room options, but ours had a bedroom with a king bed, a sitting room with a couch and tv, and our own bathroom. There was a little fridge and a microwave in the hall area for guests to use. Rebekka is a wonderful host, friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable about the area. We happened to be staying there over July 4th weekend and were able to sit on the huge front porch and watch the hometown parade go by right in front of the house. It's also close enough to the main street that we could walk to restaurants and shops. Be aware that the upstairs rooms have quite the staircase to go up each time. I appreciated being able to get a little exercise each time we went to the room, but if stairs are a problem for anyone, you might want to try and reserve the main floor unit. We returned again this year for the annual Silver City Blues Festival over the Memorial Day Weekend. Rebekka has added an outdoor gazebo and swing. They are not quite finished to her satisfaction, however that did not stop her guests from congregating there and enjoying each other company in the evening. Her breakfasts were tasty, varied and beautifully presented. Rebekka is great about accommodating dietary wishes and eating times from the early risers to the sleepy heads. The reviews are TRUE! Serenity House is THE place to stay in Silver City. Big, beautiful, charming and clean. A short, two-block walk to the bustling and attractive downtown. And a gracious and knowledgeable hostess who cooks the BEST breakfast in town. We stayed in Gigi's room, which besides being huge, has an added advantage of being attached to the parlor so that my husband could read in the middle of the night and not wake me up. The neighborhood is quiet, so you'll get some good zzzzz. Knowing that we are early risers, our hostess, Rebekka, set up the coffee maker so that we could hit the button and get our first cup before the other guests. Our bathroom was big and very clean. I felt that we were staying with family, rather than at a B&B. Rebekka made us feel very welcomed, and made great recommendations on places to eat, and visit. This is a long-overdue RAVE review of Serenity House in Silver City, New Mexico, Rebekka VanNess's gorgeous and welcoming bed and breakfast. My wife and I stayed for two nights there during late June 2019 while on an extended trip to visit our son and grandson as well as travel on from there to Tucson, AZ to see an old friend. Before praising anything else, let me say a bit about Ms. VanNess. She is that rarity among B&B proprietors, capable of welcoming you into her home and making one feel fully comfortable while still honoring your privacy. She is both flexible and willing to engage as needed. We stayed in the downstairs room and very much enjoyed it. It was adequately updated and felt private, secure and had a sense of history nonetheless. The furnishings and art are lovely and tastefully chosen. Rebekka has done a wonderful job of updating Serenity House and has big plans for additional improvements and activities. If she accomplishes even half of what she intends, her B&B will be a highlight of Silver City tourism. Be sure to ask her to tell you more as I can't predict what is available when you read this. Our room's temperature was fine and it was definitely a hot time of year. It was neither too hot or nor too cold, often an issue in older hotels and guest houses. The food at breakfast was very good, and we certainly qualify as 'foodies.' The staff covering for Rebekka when she was not available were reliable and responsible and that includes meal preparation. There are many stairs to the front entrance, so any who are booking a stay should plan on the equivalent of about 1-1/2 flights. The stairs to the front porch are not especially steep, but it is a consideration for some. There is a lovely, large well furnished front porch with night time lighting and a large covered picnic area and barbecue in the front/side yard. Both are available for guests. We did not stay upstairs so cannot really speak to those accommodations. Serenity House is conveniently within walking distance of downtown restaurants and bars with live music and convenient to the college campus (Western New Mexico University). We highly recommend Serenity House. It is far and away the best of Silver City's historical accommodations and it is price competitive with the other hotels and motels. We will always stay here when we travel to Silver City. read more

In the Historic District of Silver City, New Mexico, is a great Victorian gem of a B&B that is an easy place to be. The owner, Sandy, gives you the tour, makes sure she has your breakfast likes and dislikes down and let's you simply enjoy this lovely space. For the quiet, even though it is on Broadway, and the amenities, it is a clean and appropriately priced place. Great front porch that includes a swing, lovely garden, short walk from the Historic downtown and a bit longer trek to Western NM University, makes it a prime spot for spending time in Silver City. Breakfast is terrific and includes insights and places to visit, hike to and eat from Sandy. I would certainly return here. After a bit of walking and driving around town, I believe it IS the PLACE to stay. read more

We love staying at B&B's! Of all the places we have stayed, all over the world..this has to be a favorite. Our host Rebekka was nothing short of amazing! She was gracious and welcoming from our first contact. I don't think it's possible to find another soul that knows the area better. She was so helpful with our trip, pointing us to amazing restaurants and areas to explore in the Gila. The house is perfectly located in the heart of downtown and an easy drive to all the Gila has to offer. The house itself is STUNNING. Well-appointed, unique rooms leave you feeling transported to another time. It is so tastefully decorated, with amazing art throughout. Our room was spotless and super comfortable. A wonderful old home just up the street from the downtown district. We choose the location based on the reviews and were not disappointed. We stayed upstairs in the Garden Suite and loved the accommodations. The bed was about as comfortable as they come and it was nice to have a separate sitting room since the weather was a little less desirable than we had hoped. Rebekka is a wonderful host and chef. She is also a strong advocate for Silver City and the surrounding area. Her recommendations for places to eat were excellent and the conversation over breakfast was enjoyable. Serenity House Historic Estate is a site worth seeing. Every inch of it is detailed and beautiful. It felt warm and inviting and it felt like I was taken back to another time and place. I was warmly greeted and made to feel right at home. The next morning I was greeted with hot coffee and warm and intelligent conversation. I also had the privacy I needed to get some work done. I feel privileged to have discovered this little gem in Silver City! This is also a very romantic getaway, not only the ambiance and atmosphere but they offer in house, in room massage therapy. "Perfect" is a word that is often used in reviews of this property, and it's pretty close to the mark. The building is awesome and nicely, albeit somewhat eclectically, decorated, and was ideal for our weekend gathering of three couples. The rooms were very comfortable and well appointed: one on the main floor and two more up a very long staircase (because the ceilings are so high). The beds in all three were very comfortable, and the bathrooms were good size. The dining room table seats 8 and was perfect for our group. There are two common sitting rooms: one to the right, off the dining room; and the other to the left, through which entrance to the ground floor bedroom is obtained. Both were very comfortable, but seating is each was limited to 4 or 5. We pulled in a chair from the dining room to meet our need. Outside is a very nice covered area with a table for 6, a very comfortable seating area for 4, and a fireplace. There is also a swing chair under a tree and lots of comfortable seating on the porch. In a word, the place is comfortable. One word of caution: if stairs are a challenge for you, get the room on the main floor. The entrance is up a flight of twelve steps, and as mentioned, the second floor is up another 22 steps. Of course, the host makes the difference, and Rebekka was fantastic. She was welcoming, friendly, informative, responsive, gracious, and accommodating. We had a couple of Vegans in our group, and Rebekka didn't flinch. She made sure that their breakfasts were as yummy as ours. Speaking of breakfast, we were there for three. All were good and including protein. Because of the zombie apocalypse (and overreach by the governor), none of the restaurants in town offered inside seating, so we ate a lot of take out. Again, Rebekka didn't flinch, allowing us to use the dining room for our meals, and even allowing us to use the kitchen to make our meals on Sunday. Rebekka was available - either in person on via phone/text - when we needed her, and was very willing to engage in conversation or offer a recommendation, but she was also very good about giving us our space. One of Rebekka's recommendations was the Our Lady of Guadalupe Monastery, located in the mountains about 1/2 hour north of Silver City. She suggested that we be there for the 12:00 noon service when the monks do Gregorian chants. We did, and it was wonderful - a highpoint of our visit. (To enter the sanctuary, depress the thumb latch and push the door, and be aware that the incense can be a bit overwhelming.) Serenity House was also a great base for our visit to the Gila Cliff dwellings and the Catwalk Recreation Area. We absolutely recommend Serenity House. read more

Only a block and a half from the Main Street in Silver City, this B&B is in easy walking distance of art galleries, coffee shops, and the farmer's market. Owner and chef Sandy makes an amazing breakfast and is a font of knowledge for local events and places to see. The historic building has been thoughtfully modernized to retain its charm. The rooms are large and luxurious. The garden is charming. If you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs because the old wood floors are creaky! But I will definitely stay here again. read more

All of the Yelp reviews to this point in time tell it exactly like it is--a wonderful experience in a warm, friendly, and welcoming home! Rebekka makes it happen! She has put a great deal of TLC into her two story 1880's B&B and its accommodations through her renovations to the rooms. They are comfortable, inviting, and warm. Our room left nothing to be desired. There is a comfortable reading/common room on the ground floor with books, a couch, plush chairs, and a small desk. For breakfast she served a delightful (and healthy) meal of scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, and cherry tomatoes and cheese in a balsamic sauce. She prefaced the breakfast with a small bowl of yogurt and spiced apples. She does go out of her way to accommodate dietary restrictions, which we appreciated. She is also a font of knowledge and has pertinent and timely suggestions to make your stay in Silver City a memorable experience. Not to detract from this review, but if you are disabled and have issues with a long flight of stairs, I'd recommend that you talk to Rebekka about the ground floor bedroom. Our first visit to Silver City, where I was teaching a workshop at Light Art Space, only 2 short blocks away from Serenity House. The location is perfect-- within walking distance to everything downtown. We never had to move our car. We showed up a day too early, but Rebekka calmly managed to find us a beautiful suite, and we stayed 4 nights. Lovely old house with spacious rooms everywhere-- totally modern, while maintaining that Victorian charm. And, as if there wasn't enough room inside, the wide covered front porch and outdoor eating space is just perfect. We've stayed in a lot of B&Bs over the years, and the breakfasts at Serenity House were - bar none - the BEST. There's a serious cook in that kitchen. Gracious and lovely, all around (the stay, the host, the cook)! When next in Silver City, we'll definitely be staying at Serenity House. read more

What an amazing find! My wife and I were in Silver City for two days on business. We decided to make some time for ourselves by staying in a B & B rather than your standard hotel. We are sure glad we did. To start with, the house was built in the late 1880's and is filled with charm, inside and out. We stayed in the room with the jet tub as I had recently injured my back (more on that later) and my wife thought it would be good for me. The room was great! A mixture of antique and modern (jet tub) and comfortable throughout. We were there over two weeknights and, consequently, the only two guests those nights. I really feel the personal attention we received from Rebekkah would have been just as great if the house was full. Rebekkah is a wonderful host with quite the knowledge of the area and activities to be found in and around Silver City. When she heard of my back injury she suggested an in room massage from her massage therapist. I did it and was amazed at the results! Not just a great host but a wonderful cook also. Breakfasts were delicious and took into account our minor dietary issues. Outside of the house is just a short walk to downtown Silver City with its restaurants and many stores. We're so glad we made this discovery and after talking to Rebekkah about all there is to do in the area, we will definitely be back when we have more time to explore. Even though this Inn is a few dollars more than the Palace Hotel, as far I am concerned this is the ONLY place to stay in Silver City. The accomodations couldn't be cleaner and nicer. There were many amenities and special touches that made the difference. There are snacks & drinks for the guests. And even bubble bath with the tubs! The gardens are well kept & it is on the main drag but far away so that it's quiet. The owners couldn't be friendlier. The breakfast was the best we had in New Mexico. We had a phenomenal stay at the Serenity House. The House is just beautiful! It was built in the 1800s and it is right in the center of town. We stayed in the two room suite upstairs, which had a super comfortable bed and beautiful views of the town. We also spent a lot of time in the dining room and in the yard. The coffee that she serves at breakfast is grown locally, and it is absolutely delicious. They also served a really tasty spoon he pastry with breakfast. The yard has a beautiful gazebo, where we enjoyed dinner and drinks. Besides enjoying the beautiful house, we also had a wonderful time walking around town, eating out, and hiking in the Gila Forest. Rebekka, the owner, took us on tours to the hot springs, the cliff dwellings in the Gila Forest, and even to view an amazing private Native American art collection. We even drove by the town's old hanging tree. Silver City is a beautiful town with a rich history, and we are definitely look forward to returning in the December. read more
