This historical hotel sits right in the center of all the restaurants. They have worked to do upgrades on it which has since added a nice touch. They offer a complimentary continental style breakfast from around 6am to about 10am. Not a lot of hot options but plenty of cereal and oatmeal. It definitely does the job. The rooms are gorgeous. This historic 1938 hotel in Silver City was a great place to stay. It appeared to have been renovated recently. Because it's older the bathrooms were kinda small but the tubs were big and had a closet. The 2nd night we had to move to a room with one full bed, they said it was a queen. My sister and I squeezed in. They served a nice continental breakfast each morning and the rooms were nice. Marcos was awesome, so nice and pleasant. Great location near downtown. Not haunted btw. We booked the Murray so we could be in the heart of Silver City during the Southwest Print Festival! We loved being able to walk everywhere, exploring on foot is so much fun. The staff at the Murray are incredibly sweet, the mid-mod details in the designs are absolutely lovely and the rooms are clean. We were headed back home after the New Year and wanted to stay somewhere in Silver City, NM. This was a cute, yet quaint hotel. We perused the availability on their website, and prices were more reasonable than other hotels in the same vicinity. We chose the King Suite and it surprised us when we set foot inside, the large living room area, large bed room, cute little desk area, and small, but functional bathroom. All was clean and the bed was super comfy. I loved the old-fashioned feel. The only slightly annoying experience was the time it took for the water to heat up in the bathroom. Whether it was the sink or tub/shower, the water had to run for a good 5-7 minutes. After that, it was fine. The front desk was friendly and efficient with checking in and out. Stayed there two different times last month and both visits went smoothly. The clerks were helpful; the lobby is inviting. The hotel was wonderful, a real gem right downtown. The room was clean, everything in the room functioned as one would expect. The hotel is from the 1930's, when we were physically smaller, so the bathroom is a little tight, but that is expected with classic hotels. The breakfast area downstairs was physically large but had limited seating. That area and the lobby were a little warm in the morning. Front desk was efficient and helpful, which is kind of amazing as they were also the breakfast worker. They wear lots of hats I guess. read more

Loved it! Great location right downtown, you can walk anywhere--eateries, bars, coffee, museum. I wasn't happy to hear I really had no control over the heat--but it was comfortable all day/night. We stayed three nights at the hotel, it was wonderful! Staff was friendly and helpful, bed and pillows very comfortable. Breakfast was so complete. eggs, bacon and sausage plus sweet rolls and hot coffee. Dining room was good size. Centrally located for a walking tour of historic Silver City, NM. We'll always plan to stay at Murray. The Art Deco decor is refreshing, a true step back in time. We stayed there this last Thursday as we took the southern route out of Phoenix. It was an extremely pleasant stay, the staff was excellent to work with and the room was clean and quiet. Old town Silver City and the Murray were delightful! As I read some of the negative reviews, it struck me people were expecting the Ritz in an older bouquet hotel. Art deco hotel that was built in the 1930s and has been decently renovated. The rooms are very small but the bed was fine. Breakfast was adequate although seating is very limited in the dining room. The elevator is ear piercingly loud so try to get a room far from it or bring earplugs. The hotel gets an extra star from me for bringing a window unit AC and putting it in for me when it was hot in April. Ordinarily there are not window units "until it gets hotter," whatever that means. read more

It's been a few years since I've stayed there but the two star rating caught my eye. I had stayed there during the remodel during the Blues Fest. It was all modernised and had an elevator operator and we were lucky because the room was freshly remodeled and we were the first to stay in the remodel. My only gripe was the inflated rates but that's everywhere during high demand. No AC or fan and the area was unusually warm for that time of year. I've been going through Silver City for over 30 years off and on and it's a quaint town with good food and coffee and best of all the people are really friendly and have a nice layed back attitude that I can identify with (I'm from Phoenix when it was a small place). Downtown reminded me of Jerome or even Cave Creek,AZ. My memory says 4 stars and I will be back. read more

Stayed at the Murray Hotel in June of 2021. The elevator broke as we tried to enter it, so we had to take the stairs to the third floor. The room was clean and well-appointed. Two queen beds, a smart TV, clean but "vintage" bathroom. The biggest downside of our room was the air conditioning. There was a floor unit with a huge exhaust hose to the window. Over our four day stay, the room never achieved the "Hotel Room Cold" that we've become accustomed to in our travels. It was uncomfortable during the day but only mildly annoying in the evenings. The staff of the hotel was helpful and very pleasant. The manager was only slightly perturbed at me when my oversized suitcase blocked the elevator door and broke it on our way to our room. The look of the hotel was what initially attracted me. I love Art Deco and the Murray Hotel has embraced this long-gone era. The lobby is spacious and has the feel of a era gone by. It's a good mix of the 20s - 19 and 20. The biggest disappointment of our stay was that on the way down the long hall to our room, there were no twin girls in blue Sunday dresses asking me to come play with them. Bummer. read more

Although this is still a work in progress, the Murray is a beautiful testament to the history of Silver City, as well as the 1930's/Art Deco movement. Debbie was working the desk and was also our concierge. She was so cheerful and I can tell she loves the hotel and it's history. She gave us so much history and insight into the hotel. It was really great. We will definitely stay here again when we come back to visit Silver City. Our room was not that clean. The bathroom floor appeared to have not been mopped and the carpet had several spots and stains on it. yuck We spent two very unrestful nights in room 419. The headboard of our bed was against the outer wall which faced the elevator. We could hear that thing running all night long and our last night heard children running down the hall at 1:30 a.m. The desk clerk said "children?!" when I mentioned it to him and he also made some lame excuse for not having hot water to shower on our last morning there. Whoever renovated the building must have skimped on sound-proofing the walls. We could hear conversation and television running in the room next door. In addition, the coffee was terrible too. It's a neat place and conveniently located downtown. That's about the only good things I can say about the Murray Hotel. Lots of improvements needed there! read more

Enjoyed my stay at the Murray. Great rooms. Not the biggest you'll ever stay in, but they tidy and clean. That's all I really want when I stay somewhere. It has a historic feel in the rooms. To make the place better, I would: liven up the main elevator (it felt like a small freight elevator), get an ice machine, no half hearted continental breakfasts, spice up the entrance a bit, spice up the the lobby with more Art Deco, and play some music in the lobby. There was no sound. Play Art Deco period music at a low level. Just my two cents. It really is walking distance to the downtown. read more

I make frequent work trips to Silver City and always stay at the Murray. Not only is it half the price of the Days Inn, it's in the heart of the historic downtown. Great bars and restaurant just a few hundred feet away but the hotel itself is beautiful and full of history. read more

I wish I could give the Murray more stars. I *want* to give it more stars, but it is what it is, which is to say: a work in progress. I love that Silver City didn't just rip this old building down. I love that someone had the initiative (and cash) to begin a restoration of a classic hotel in downtown. God knows, the world doesn't need any more generic Holiday Inns. The Murray is a fine old building, but they're still working out some kinks. Which makes sense, seeing that place was abandoned for ~30 years before reopening in the summer of 2012. If you want to stay downtown, this is a good choice. It's centrally located, and they'll give you a $5 voucher for the eatery around the corner. Also, save a receipt from a downtown shop and you'll get $30 bucks knocked off your bill. They're really trying to get people downtown, and this is as good a place as any to have as a home base while in Silver City. Be aware though, that the Murray is not yet finished. When we stayed there the elevator was out, so we had to schlep up to the 3rd floor. Not awful, but a sign of what this place is going through. The TV wasn't the newest, and we only got like 6 channels. Again, not a big deal as I'm not a TV watcher, but just be aware. The rooms have no telephones, and there doesn't seem to be any way to control the temperature of your room (they have radiators in the rooms and bathrooms that are on auto). All that aside, we enjoyed our stay. The Murray has character. It has history. The staff was super friendly, and they really seem to appreciate the fact that people are staying in their hotel. I'd love to see what this place looks like in a couple months, and since I'll be back in Silver City, I'll have the chance. read more

Amazing service and really clean hotel. We got the king suite and it was huge! You can tell the management here wanted us to feel at home and really took care of us. There was a slight issue with the room (nothing is perfect) and the manager came in at 730pm to make everything right. Which he did. Very polite and hard working, this hotel is definitely a must visit when you come here. We will be staying again when we come back. read more

Picked this hotel while looking at reviews on Travelocity sitting at the bar around the corner while eating lunch. We wanted something in town instead of out by the highway, and so we kind of flipped a coin between here and the Palace Hotel. Room was big, clean, bed super comfy. Shower great. Bathroom a little small but I don't need a lot of counter space. Also had a couch in the room, a chair, and a desk. I didn't notice if there was a phone in the room, because we use our cel phones for everything. Wifi was fast and reliable. We didn't watch TV so I wasn't super concerned about the lack of cable or anything. Staff was incredibly friendly and nice. Iris was very knowledgable about the local history and where to go. It would have been nice if we didn't have to go to the lobby to get ice, but we only needed a little and that was enough. I didn't eat breakfast but my husband said there were just danishes and coffee -- so he brought me up some coffee while we packed up to leave and it was tasty and hot. Just right. It was lovely to stay in a downtown hotel near the bar where we spent the evening listening to music and drinking. Stumbling distance is always nice. We didn't need AC, first week in March we opened the two windows in our corner room and just let the cool air in and it was just right. So for some of the complaints that people have - none of those were real factors for me and I kind of feel like progress continues for this hotel's renovation. And honest to God, if you go read my review on the "Travelodge" in Willcox, AZ... which is the worst place ever, nothing here is a show stopper for me. read more

This was the cleanest quietest hotel we ever stayed at. The room was small, but the bed was comfortable and we never even heard a peep from another guest. The selection of TV channels leaves a lot to be desired though, so if you are going to stay in your room a lot and watch TV this wouldn't be the place for you. For us it was perfect as we were staying here while our floors were redone. Another big bonus it is in downtown so you can walk to all the great restaurants downtown. There is a free continental breakfast that was well stocked and clean, but earily quiet. read more

We decided to stay here based on good reviews online. Unfortunately we ended up having many issues while staying here. Check in went ok but apparently we had only booked for one night not the two nights we wanted. We needed a two queen bed room. The hotel did correct this and got us another room that was available for two nights. The employees here are friendly and try to help as best they can. However our room had no heat and it was 28 degrees outside. They gave us a space heater and that helped although it took hours for it to warm the room up adequately. Then in the morning we discovered there was no hot water. We took freezing cold showers that morning. The tv was an old tube type from the 1990s and the remote and volume didn't work right. After we complained about the lack of hot water, a second room with one bed was offered to us. This one had hot water. They didn't have any two bed rooms left so we ended up with two rooms that combined gave us everything. That night we lost power to some of the lights including the bathroom light. They did get it working again by flipping a breaker. The rooms are basic and very small. The bathrooms are TINY and there isn't even space to put toiletries or set your clothes while showering. On the plus side, the beds were comfortable, the hotel is clean, the location is great, and the staff is friendly. However, I feel like the hotel shouldn't be renting rooms without the basic necessities. The hotel still needs a lot of work and upgrades to be worth the price they charge. They really are less than budget motel quality but at a much higher price. I wouldn't recommend staying here to anyone. They did give us the second room and knock off some money on top of that. We were happy enough with that to not check out early. read more

We stayed here for 1 night in May. Parts of the hotel are still under construction and they are still working out some kinks as they continue renovation but I think it will be top notch when it's done. Pros: Everything is newly renovated (or in the process). The room decor was fresh and crisp, very comfortable, and the room was clean; they even have a "clean remote" holder which I always appreciate. The rooms have a handy FOB key rather than a card or regular key. Easy street parking right out front. Walking distance to the restaurants and anything in town. Nice wide staircase, and wide halls. Excellent front desk staff, especially Debbie. Spacious and comfortable lobby. Cons: There is no cable TV, no long mirror in the room, and bathroom counter space was limited. the ac/thermostat was not working in our room but it was a nice night and the fan was enough for us; we informed the front desk and she said it would be fixed right away. No ice machines on the halls; they have a big cooler downstairs with plenty of ice. A lot of the cons might just be during renovation. Overall a great experience and we would definitely stay here again. read more

If you prefer period charm over slick big box chains then this place will be sure to please you. If you judge a hotel room on just the size of the bathrooms and how many channels are on the flat screen this is not the place for you. All the renovations were done in the areas of the hotel we were in. Our room was on the third floor with two queen beds. The furnishings are great with an Art Deco feeling and modern comfy beds. The bathroom was small but everything was period perfect in design and finishings. The reception area is just like the pictures show and the dining room had smart design choices too. It would have been nice to have desk in the room. The internet was good too. The location is great in the older historic part of Silver city with lots of shops and restaurants in walking distance. The counter person was nice but rather spacy and there was some confusion over if the hotel had it's own parking (it does not). If you want to stay at 1930's hotel in the middle of no where this is the place and it's very reasonably priced. I wish we had spent more time in Silver City and at this great hotel. read more

This old hotel stood vacant for years, and then someone decided it was too historic to let it fade away. I am one who is glad they did. They've fixed this Hotel to I'm sure beyond it's former glory. The bed was as good as any 5 star Hotel I've ever stayed in. Right around $100 per night I'd say it was a good value for the money (I value a good nights sleep). The room was large and everything was first rate. This is the best hotel in all of South West New Mexico. You will not be disappointed. My stay at the Murray Hotel was probably the worst hotel experience I have ever had. Their defense is that it is a historic building and we should just consider ourselves as reenactors experiencing life as it was in the 1930s. It was more like life in the 1730s. I have stayed in historic buildings before and I have never had such discomfort as I did at the Murray. When I made the reservation there was no mention of the lack of such things as air conditioning (in 100 degree New Mexico weather). Or the rest of the missing comforts listed below. When I checked in, the front desk clerk was very friendly but also quite mum about any of things I was to encounter. She never even mentioned there was cold water available at the front desk. I never saw it until I checked out. Here is what you can expect: - No air conditioning the room. It was about 100 degrees in Silver City, even warmer in the room. I opened two windows but the room never cooled down and I literally lost a night's sleep. - Loud noises from the street, even during the night when people returned from partying. - Paper thin walls so lots of noise from other guests. - No luggage rack - just put your suitcases on the floor (and try not to think about what they may be sitting in). - No refrigerator so I drank warm water until morning (repeat: no one mentioned there was cold water available at the desk nor did I see it). - When I left for dinner and when I returned the front desk was empty. It gave me the impression I was on my own in this horrible experience. - No microwave. - No coffee pot. - TV only had about 5 stations; 1 was an infomercial and 1 ran black and white 1950s westerns all night. - No phone in the room. My cell phone did not work so there was no way to contact the front desk (Reminder: no one was at the front desk when I left/returned from dinner). - Bathroom was so small I was literally squeezed into it. - No shelving to put toiletries anywhere. - Closet was small - like Malibu Barbie-sized. I had a phone conversation with Ed Young, the manager. He said all of the problems I had were things they had no control over. He also said I should not have waited to mention them until I checked out. I reminded him about the empty front desk, no room phones and the fact that my cell phone did not work. He was polite but quite defensive. I asked why I was not told when I made the reservation or when I checked in that there was no air conditioning. He said if I had asked they would have told me. I replied that I also had not thought to ask if there was running water either because I assumed it was a comfortable room and they should let people know there is no A/C. He answered that no hotel would ever advertise there is no air conditioning (a bit of an omission as I see it). I told him it was an awful stay and that I had lost a night's sleep, literally. I asked for a refund and he replied, "That certainly is not going to happen." So you can't say you were not warned if you venture into Silver City's version of Hotel California. read more
