We did a quick weekend away in Silver and were torn between the Murray and the Palace but ultimately landed on the Palace for two nights. We loved our stay. It's true that the accommodations are older (the sinks are in the room with you, be prepared), but the entire place has a charm that I found really cozy and sweet. Our bed was comfortable although I can't speak for other rooms. There is a bookstore immediately next door owned by a lovely gentleman from Scotland who is very knowledgeable about the building and the city. The breakfast had enough selection for us picky eaters and passed our coffee snob test, and you can't beat the location. While our paths never crossed with the staff for long enough to have a substantial conversation, everyone we met while in Silver was truly wonderful. The parking is street parking but we never had any trouble finding a spot immediately in front of the hotel or at worst beside it on a side street. I did wake up once on our second night to some noise on the street, but that was my only issue the entire time. read more

Don't stay here! The bathroom curtain was moldy, and the tub was visibly dirty. The floor had stains that made me hesitant to walk barefoot. Air conditioning barely worked -- it stayed tepid the whole stay despite adjusting the settings. The breakfast area was dirty and didn't feel well-maintained, and the toilet wouldn't flush properly. Service wasn't any better. The receptionist was unfriendly and ignored me when I was checking out. Overall, poor cleanliness and poor service. I won't be returning. read more

Most filthy hotel I've ever stayed which is saying a lot. Large dog jumped on me when I first entered the lobby. Walking up the stairs I noticed they needed serious vacuuming, shampooing or both. Dead large bug in entryway to room. Soap was wet and squished up. Toilet clearly not cleaned after use. Bed had large hair in the sheets. Put across from Little Toad tavern on very loud karaoke night. They claimed it would be loud anywhere in hotel but did move me to the other side of hotel where it was quieter. Didn't want to eat there. would give it negative stars if possible. read more

It wasn't the best room configuration but we managed to make it work for us. The shower was good, the internet was fast and the breakfast was good. The staff were really friendly too. Highly recommend for Old World comfort, charm, and grace. Front desk host and manager Robert bent over backwards to make our stay memorable, welcoming, and inviting. Due to covid-19 they've had to defer some maintenance. When we first arrived we had to switch rooms for a minor window issue. He and his staff went above and beyond to "make it up to us." Spent 4 nights in room 80, a suite. Nice room. AC only in bedroom. 1st night was uncomfortably warm, but the temperature outside decreased so the rest of the stay was nice. This is a historic hotel so don't expect high end frills. You are paying for the atmosphere and location. It's in the heart of historic old town. We walked everywhere. Continental breakfast isn't much. No coffee pot in room which was the worst thing for me. Loved the place and hope to return. read more

You have got to be kidding???? First off let's start with price, if you're going to charge a hundred dollars a night you better have a room worth that price tag. What you get instead is a room that 'sort of' has air conditioning. Two rooms cooled by a window a/c unit not adequate to cool a shoebox, no access to the controls because it's ten feet up in a window and at night it either quit working or was turned off. If you're going to save some money shutting off the a/c at night then you damn well better have a window that can be opened to let in cool air! Second anyone should know there are 0 ground floor rooms and stairs are the ONLY way to get to your room and there are two flights of them....THIS SHOULD BE NOTED ON THEIR WEBSITE WHICH IT IS NOT!! NO 'smoking' rooms available and no balcony for the top floor, yes you will get to travel those stairs every time you want a smoke. Two room suite means one tiny room crammed into a larger room with one shared toilet and sink. And that 'queen bed' is a double. The free breakfast is just toast and cereal, the coffee was decent. No ice machine just a freezer with a 20 lb bag of ice you get to figure out how to open and wrestle with yourself. We were allowed to get a refund for the second night which was considerate because we would never return....ever. read more

Great base for walking the late 19th century core of Silver City, with its old store fronts, shops & theaters. Park right out front -- one challenge is no elevator. Don't miss walking the neighborhood to see the many tile mosaic displays -- public, commercial and private -- really special. Great historic hotel. I had stayed here nearly 10 years ago and came back to revisit. It was a little chilly, but probably much warmer than it was when first opened. I like that it is really a historic experience and not like new designed hotels. I'll stay here again for sure. read more

One of the most delightful finds during our recent travels (both Silver City, and the Palace Hotel)! We were getting into town late, but they offered to give us access, even though there wouldn't be anyone on duty by that time. Incredibly trusting of them. Met owners the following morning, after generous breakfast. Truly like a lovely European place, or B&B in the States. If you're looking for a chain hotel, where every room is identical, this is NOT the place for you. It was charming, clean, and run by very lovely people. Just left the Palace hotel in Silver Coty NM, and they tell me that my room is no longer available. It was 5 pm when I tried to check in. I called around 11 am that morning to see if my room was still available and they said yes. I booked the room weeks before. After I learned about the room no longer available, I spoke with the manager Robert. He had a nonchalant attitude and didn't even apologize for putting us in this situation. He did not care that we were in a city without a room. All of the hotels were full. I was totally disappointed in the lack of help from this manager. I do not recommend this hotel due to the unprofessionaliam from management. The least they could have done is call us before we tried to check in. We came for a quick weekend getaway to go to the Gila mountains, and I was nervous. Once we got here all my worries were gone. This place is wonderful. It was opened in 1883 as a bank and became a hotel in 1887, and it's completely adorable. It has a neat old time feel with all the modern amenities. They upgraded our room without any extra charge which was sweet. Continental breakfast was good and had a big variety. The bed was amazingly comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. The staff were wonderful and had a great knowledge of the area. We didn't know where to go for dinner and they gave us a wonderful recommendation which is always helpful when you're in an area you don't know. It's super cute and cozy and I would definitely recommend this place for anyone who wants to get away! read more

Although we only stayed for one night, we were warned beforehand that it could get quite noisy here. Not so much from the guests of the hotel, but from the street noise. The Palace is located on a main street of Silver City and although our windows were closed (it was pretty chilly) we could still hear some traffic in our second floor room overlooking the street. Point is, in the summer, when you want your windows open, it could probably get VERY noisy. The hotel is very nostalgic, as advertised and the room rates were very good. We stayed in one of the suites, which consisted of two double beds in the bedroom, complete with a sink, a separate bathroom with an old clawfoot bathtub(which had been there since the 1850's), and a sitting room with a microwave and TV. The hotel, which is filled with lots of antique furniture, offers a continental breakfast which is basic but sufficient. The night clerk actually remembered my long-dead uncle who owneed a business in Silver for years and shared a story about how he and his brother working for him as teenagers. We even met another San Franciscan who is thinking about relocating to Silver.... The Palace is exactly what I would expect in a town like Silver City....old but sturdy. read more

The hotel is old, and tries hard to be charming. The rooms are functional. The bathrooms are spartan. The costs are in line with what you get. My girlfriend and I stayed here for our anniversary and we had a blast. It is quaint and cozy. The rooms are clean and well kept, but at the same time you feel like you are staying in a old western hotel. We were able to have a fine dinner across the street at Issac's and then we tore up the Buffalo bar, all within one block. The next morning we walked to the cafe on the corner, had some awesome coffee and then we strolled through the entire main street area. The lady that works the counter is very sweet. If you're looking for an "all amenities", cookie cutter hostelry pick a chain hotel/motel - this isn't the place for you. If you're looking for old time ambience and a 100 year step back into the past this IS the place for you. It drips with circa 1900 flavor. There are no room phones. The only concessions to modernity are free Wi-Fi, a room fridge and mini-microwave. My room with two double beds was very small but clean. Just a small portable old TV, but it did its job. There is some street noise, but it quiets down after dark. The continental breakfast is minimal but adequate. Street parking only, but it's safe and free. The location couldn't be better - it's within walking distance of shops, eateries and galleries. It's not the Hilton but it's a fun experience, clean and conveniently located in the historic downtown area. Go for the experience. read more

I want to love this place. The lobby is cute, the location is killer but the deluxe 2 room suite (granted it was less than a C note) left me wanting for much more. I travel A LOT. I fall asleep to my tv when I travel. No TV in the bedroom. The couch was very dated and the TV was one of those 1982 16" magnavox on the stand. It desperately needs a refresh (room 80 if I recall). No offense but it was a little too period piece for my liberal hotel tastes. The staff is very friendly and accommodating however and I might very well go back and try another room. I spent 3 days in room 73. The staff is incredibly friendly and the bed was really comfortable! The bathroom is a touch on the small side as is the hallway but this is a hundred and 20 year old building so those are to be expected. The state of New Mexico was in a surprise snap cold front that came through and so it was a touch on the chilly side but with extra blankets it was a great place to stay! I left my shaving kit there and they were kind enough to mail it back to me. I would definitely recommend the Palace to anyone who is able to walk up stairs as they don't have an elevator. If you like history and historic buildings in an amazing downtown setting this is the place for you! I had a lovely chat with the owners who are extremely friendly as well. Well I was here over a week ago. I was hesitant on reviewing, but since I talked to Nancy the owner, I needed to follow up. So here we go. I arrived after a 645 mile drive 2 weeks ago on Tuesday. When I entered the lobby with my 89 year old blind father Korean War Vet. I was abruptly stopped with a raised brow by Rose whom I guess was working the front desk. She asked if I had a reservation? Instead of welcoming me to the hotel,asking me how she could help me. Maybe it was just me but I felt that her attitude was uncalled for. So with Rose's second question in regards to our reservation I asked if she was Peggy not knowing who she was at first. She then replied no Peggy only works here once in awhile. That's when I told her I didn't appreciate her attitude she quickly responded saying she wasn't giving attitude. I said are you Nancy? She said no Nancy's the owner and out of town this week. So needless to say, she showed us to our room and that was that. After getting settled I felt compelled to apologize to her for my attitude thinking it was my fault for how she came off to us. So two days went by and it was Thursday and I knew that I was leaving early Friday morning so I needed to find out how to drop off key. There was a woman and man tending to the planters in the front of the of the hotel. As I entered the lobby the woman followed me and asked if I needed help. I turned around and ask if she was Nancy she replied yes. At this point I went ahead and vented to Nancy on regards to our arrival on Tuesday. She confirmed that Rose was the person taking care of the desk and apologized for her attitude telling me that she had health issues, and ask me not to Yelp the hotel. I felt at that time that she would justify the attitude that we received from her employee. So in the event that nothing had been done I feel it my duty to go ahead and review the hotel. Nancy the owner made excuses for her employee that represents her hotel and the way her guests are treated. With just a simple apology I guess Nancy thought that that was suffice I feel she did herself and unjustice. of course we will not be returning to that hotel but I do frequent Silver City at least three times a year and have many a family member that live there. I know the Murray isn't a historical of a hotel as a Palace, but they are a friendly and welcoming hotel. Not to negate that we did have the most expensive suite you offer in the hotel, you'd think the overall treatment would equal the cost of stay. read more

This was our first visit to Silver City. We booked this hotel for the great location. Sadly, the location turned out to be a problem as our room was on the corner of the hotel, with 2 of the main streets in town just below the old single pane windows. Not sure if it was garbage trucks, cement trucks, or just regular traffic, but the 6AM (or earlier!) noise was very loud and prevented a pleasant sleep. I would ask for a room on the inside of the corridor, as far from the corner as possible if I ever stayed here again. Other than that, the staff was very pleasant and tried hard to provide a nice experience. The bathroom was tiny, no shelf space, tub in poor condition. It's fine for a night or two, but be prepared to deal with some issues and bring earplugs! read more

My husband and I just got back from a two night stay in Silver City. The Palace Hotel is perfectly situated for walking to shops, galleries, church & restaurants. We stayed in a two-bedroom suite (room #71). The rooms were spacious, nicely appointed and beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was, 'Continental Style' as advertised. This is an historic building and we didn't expect it to be modern by any means. My only suggestion would be for the shower curtains to be replaced and the tub resurfaced. The portable AC units were a bit noisy but we opted to use the ceiling fans except on Saturday night when we were warned about the possibility of a 'very noisy' band playing at Toad Creek Brewing Co. on the corner. We never heard a thing and had two good nights' sleep. read more

Not a bad historic southwestern hotel. I stayed here for two nights when helping a friend move the hell outta Silver City, NM! It was comfortable, clean enough, and I always love that old southwestern style hotel that gives you that weird/eerie feeling inside. Maybe it's the fact that this place is swarming with ghosts. I mean they are everywhere, so look out!. Really though, I don't believe in ghosts, but if I did this place would be a hotbed of paranormal activity the likes of which you have never seen before! I had slightly higher hopes for the historic Palace Hotel in Silver City, NM. I booked our room through booking.com and I don't recommend that. Apparently we paid a higher price than we would have had we just called and booked over the phone. The decor is fun and overall, it's a pretty cool building and space. It is however a rather creaky, squeaky old building that doesn't lend itself well to providing privacy. The night we arrived, there were also several buckets containing water that was dripping from the ceiling. The room we had (a standard king) we rather small. But it was at least pretty quite and warm. Everything functioned just fine, but I'm sure there are slightly better deals in Silver City. One good thing is the walking distance to historic downtown. read more

Stayed here a couple nights and was primarily impressed with customer service and cleanliness. We reserved a small room ($52) and since business is slow during January, he upgraded us to a large room for no extra charge. Guy at the front dest was tons of help and super friendly. Location was perfect, right in the center of the historic downtown and in walking distance of most bars and restaurants. Only downside of this place is the decor was kind of creepy but I suppose they are keeping up with the whole 'historic' feel. And oh yea free popcorn!!!!!!!!! read more

Full disclosure, we didn't stay there because after we looked at a couple of rooms we decided to go elsewhere. Their web site looked nice, but the rooms, while clean, are very old. Most of them have sinks in the bedroom and the privy in a closet. This would be OK if you were by yourself, but.... More importantly, no effective AC. My wife says it "looks like an old ladies boarding house, complete with the old smell." read more

I came back to Silver City to revisit this town that I grew up in as a child and hadn't been back to for over 15 years. I was kind of a tired emotional wreck (in a good way) and stumbled upon this place after eating at Jalisco's (which is amazing by the way) the rooms are a little small but very cute and clean. I like the creepy/funky decor it makes the stay memorable. It def. a good deal for the price. Great location and perfect for a nights rest. I guess if anything could be improved I would put in a little big larger TV's and I'd also add a vending machine with sodas/snacks. That's it though. All and all its a nice place. I have a special place in my heart for Silver City and I am happy that the Palace helped to make my experience even better! read more

Although the Palace Hotel has great ambiance, the room amenities were sub optimal at best. The bed was flaccid- far too soft and badly warped. Hot water came from both valves in the bathroom. And, the pressure from the shower was barely a dribble which of course made cleaning a challenge. Also, while not the hotel 's fault, the band in the bar across the street from the room played well into the evening. This place has great potential and likely once was great but until they update the facility I will sleep elsewhere. read more

We stayed here during the Blues Fest. It is a great historic southwestern hotel located in a downtown district. The place had great ambience and was within walking distance of the Blues Festival (happens every Memorial Day weekend) and several great restaurants. The hotel had free breakfast, which included basic staples such as cereal, English muffins, juice, etc. As other reviewers noted, the street noise can be a bit loud on the weekend -- luckily, they had a fan that provided excellent white noise. read more

Character hotel in a character filled town. We arrived late and left early but will return for longer one day. The hotel was fun. Our room very snug with one queen bed. The bathroom was big enough for one so we had to squeeze by to get in. And curiously both taps produced hot water in the hand basin. Definitely NOT the place if you are keen on facilities. But it was charming in its way and very cool that a relic of another era is still surviving. Go with a generous attitude and you'll enjoy it. Word to the wise: there is no elevator so prepare for 2 flights of stairs. They ascend one side of the big lobby and are open so it doesn't feel like a hardship. But not handicap accessible from what I could see. Also, wifi was sketchy but apparently available in the common rooms. This is a quirky hotel with tons of character. It feels very much like you step back in time about 100 years. It is very conveniently located to shops and restaurants that are literally feet away. Our room was small and did not have a/c, but overall it was clean and comfortable. The only drawback to the room was the shower was very small and dark. I wore shower flip flops because I wasn't so sure about the floor. The shower head did not have a proper fixture and the water pressure was low. They do serve a free continental breakfast with bagels, waffles, muffins, cereal, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, juice and coffee. The breakfast area is central to all the bedrooms. In the morning, you can smell fresh coffee which was nice. The overall quality of the breakfast food wasn't great, but it's free. Overall, I enjoyed my time here and would stay again. read more

Rather Old, the beds are from the 60's. They used to be cheap but the prices have gotten a little out of hand. I had a real bad experience lately, I went in to get a room (Isigned the register) and went out to my car... my wife said "Let's just go home" I went back in and they refused to give me my money back. I never got the key and never even went to the room. They finaly said they'ed give me half back. I just don't understand greed like this. I will never go back. We stayed 5 nights in a "Queen Suite" at the Palace Hotel over Thanksgiving and had a mixed experience. First the good... the location is great; within walking distance to all downtown restaurants and amenities, and a view of the holiday street parade. Parking is on the nearby streets (no parking lot) but was always readily available and never a problem. Hotel staff were friendly. The wireless signal was not great, but usually pretty decent even in the room. The building itself has plenty of historic character and charm. The not so good ... the owners need to invest in some badly needed updates to the rooms. The entire suite could use a good coat of paint. The bed was junk, sagging badly in the middle with no support and squeaky bedsprings. The loveseat in the TV area was so shot that it hurt your back to sit on for more than a few minutes. The bathroom was simply embarrassing. Both the toilet and the tub had lost much of the enamel coating and had been painted with some sort of repair product that peeled off the surface, making everything appear unsanitary. The water wasting toilet was both inefficient and loud. The bathroom door stuck when closed and caused a big racket when you were finally able to jerk it open. The original windows had been replaced with the cheapest, single pane aftermarket windows, which let in the cold and noise, and rattled in the wind. An outside street lamp was situated 6 feet from the second story room in which we stayed, and the light made it past the edges of the closed curtains to illuminate the room all night long. Properly installed blackout curtains would eliminate this problem. In spite of all of this, the hotel has great potential and it's such a shame to see if deteriorate under such neglect. Most of the noted shortcomings in the room are relatively easy fixes for an owner that cared (even a little) about the comfort of their guests and who took pride in their establishment. It is an old historic hotel and I expect thin walls and creaky floors ... it's part of the charm. But the lack of attention to the most basic of amenities (like the bed and bathroom) are just inexcusable. read more
