They even allowed me to pick my spot. Only 45 minutes from Silver City, so I was surprised it wasn't full. I have stayed in a Silver city RV park in the past, but being out here away from the city was great. Go hit Silver City or local trails then come out here to relax. Bathrooms were clean. They have some full timers, but all their areas were clean & well maintained. The whole complex was very well taken care of & my spot level. This is not one of those big luxury RV parks, but if you want full hookups, quite, great skies, chickens/deer walking through site, & great prices this is your spot. I will be back. Extra tip: *No gas stations out here so fill up before driving out. *closest store is Dollar General in Membres, nothing else

Not crowded on a holiday weekend in July, we were able to secure a campsite the day of. The lady at the front desk was very friendly. You do have to arrive and check in before the visitor center closes, and there is no one there at night if you have questions or need anything. We were told we'd have access to the courtyard by the visitor's center after hours, but the doors were locked. Not a huge deal. Didn't see any snakes, though I know they're around, but I did meet a few tarantulas and some whip scorpions (they won't bug you, just watch where you step). The location is also poorly signed and is in a remote area. We got lost at night trying to find the gate as there was no lighting which was surprising giving the remoteness. A few solar lights and a sign would have helped alot. I also asked for a discount due to these problems and was not given one. I will just stay in Silver next time... ​

Pulling up to the cabins we were just in awe of the beauty of the location. It's secluded and nestled within the beauty of the Gila National Forest. We stayed in the Jolly McGregor Cabin/Casita and the view was just fantastic! The homemade wine/bread and raw honey were also a nice treat upon arrival. There was also Susie's Homemade lip & body balm as nice treats as well. The cabin had all the necessary cooking supplies, condiments and supplies that one could need. There were many times when we just said "Wow, they've thought of everything!" There were books/card games and many pamphlets about the local attractions in the cabin. And last but not least, the gas fire pit and soaking tub was a nice romantic treat! The place was so quiet and secluded we often wondered if we were the only ones there! An additional treat/bonus for this place is that it's off-the-grid. It's completely powered by solar power and gas. Our AT&T phone service didn't work, but the peace was just fine. The owners conveniently have a phone available if calls need to be made. One last thing is that when I researched going to this place, I thought all of the "Excellent" reviews couldn't possibly be real! But after staying there, I can say that there aren't enough words or pictures to describe the beauty and serenity of this place. We had an amazing time and we can't wait to return! Inside there is quite a bit of information on the area. But we received the best information from the woman who was manning the desk. She informed us that the Bikes and Blues festival was going on, told us about the different events. Everything we wanted to see; old town, where they were holding the festival were all walking distance from the center. We were able to leave our car there and walk to see all the sights.

This is the second time I have been to the Drifter Motel in Silver City in the past couple of…read moreyears. Frankly, my first visit was so memorable that, when I happened to be in the area travelling (and it as the right time of day) it was a no-brainer to return. Understand that this is a budget motel. You are not going to get five-star accommodations here. That is alright so long as you know what you are getting into in the first place. The beds were comfortable, the manager and his family are wonderful people (I wasn't escorted this time because it was just the son working the night shift, but we still got a pair of water bottles complementary for our stay that evening, which is more than you can say about any of the bigger chains!) There are some obvious live-ins staying in the upper rooms, but they aren't a problem... heck, realistically they are kind of a good thing, because they are looking over things as much as the owners are! In the morning, breakfast is served across the parking lot at the Drifter Parking Lot (both are owned by the same folks... the owner came in while we were eating breakfast to get a carafe of coffee for the office) as a part of your room cost, and you can order anything off of the menu excluding the steak, which is quite reasonable. For our entire three week trip across the country, it was the second best breakfast we had. I am so glad that after two years, this motel is still maintaining the standards that I observed the first time I stayed!

Unquestionably the cabins are charming and well located. Having lived near by, we know why there must be rules, particularly when operating in the forest, but I don't remember the long list of do's and don't passed out and posted when checking in as they were this time. The one thing not mentioned was housekeeping. There was no housekeeping for the 3 nights we stayed. Not sure what their policy is on this? We will still likely return.
