I'm in the investigation phase, and have only had experience with Mr Bickle, the estimator. I really enjoyed the entire conversation I had with him. He first asked me about my maximum budget. Out of at least 5 contractors I've experienced so far, he is the only one who asked. It led into a conversation I couldn't have with anyone else: "How do I get what I want while still being in budget?" He was able to identify costly things I could sacrifice in order to meet budget while still maintaining a minimum viable product. So far, his estimate is still a little higher than other companies, so I'm still investigating. But I really appreciated the conversation we had. read more

We had our bathroom remodeled by this company and the experience was fantastic. From start to finish it was well organized and well planned out. They strive to make sure they are coming in at or below budget. The designer does a great job not overwhelming you with too many options but recommends great options that will work with the decor. We, my wife and I, are recent customers (2020) and I normally do not leave reviews but I felt like I needed to for this company. This was just the worst experience and I don't know what else to do other than leave a review so others can choose a different builder for their remodel. Their estimator gave us a quote with a timeline. Hahah that timeline was the biggest joke, 6 weeks ended up being 5 months, anyways! Then he (Joe, the "owner") badgered us constantly via email and phone calls to commit with a down payment and to sign a contract. There are so many nice builders that we have met after RE-HIRING builders to fix the mistakes these people made, I am embarrassed to have to write this up. Anyways, don't let them bully you into working with them. A few searches and phone calls and you will get a better builder with better finishes and be much happier!! I'm a present customer and am going to update this as the job continues. First I did a lot of research on Dream Maker. In the midwest they have a great following and they have won awards for franchise support in 2015. so I feel my choice at the start was educated. This is the first renovation I have ever done so I may be expecting too much. Points I need to make: I am renovating 90% of a 1400 sq foot house. Drywall work New flooring throughout. Painting the interior of the house. replacing all doors/molding Lighting etc. All new Kitchen Reno the Bathroom and resurface the shower enclosure. this all started early 2016. I met with Aden their estimator. nice guy seemed to know what he was doing so I felt again good that I chose whom I did. he came back with a good number and I asked him to go to the next step. That was the contract/promissory. they offer 3 options. 1. get 10% off if you pay all upfront. 2. Pay 50% now and 50% at completion. 3. Pay 25% 4 times throughout the project. We unknowing (as in not releasing the outcome) chose option #1. Informed them that it would be a week or two until we could obtain all the funds. they seemed ok with it at the time but right at the two week mark (go figure bank's move slower than one would anticipate) I get a call from some douchebag name Kevin DEMANDING the money NOW. I ask why he says because we are ordering today. will I can and did asure said douchebag that we have not even made any choices of materials. well he would not have any of that, He continued his douchebaggery and continued his drive to get the money NOW. I am not the type the sit and be talked to like that so I demand to talk to Joe (the owner of this franchise). Joe calls and I feel he and I have a connection and fall back into a false sense of security with this company. I feel the fact that we paid them upfront has slowed this job to a crawl as they do not need to meet finish points to get paid, so I am put on the back burner as they do jobs that did not already pay. I finally meet with whom they call their "designer" he sits and look at his laptop for two hours, says I will email you a list of locations to shop and walks out. Last time i ever see him. They let said Designer go a week later. Not sure why but if how he was at my house is how he did his job I don't think I need to put too much thought into it. I meet with Joe, Paco, and the new Designer. We go over the plane and I instruct them on what I am looking for and what I want done. all through it they seem knowledged and had a good grasp on the project. We started the last week of August. It is now the last week of October and all that has been done (well nothing is really completed) is: The drywall: had to have it done twice as it was obviously a patch job and not what I expected. The painting: was done by a great kid, but by his words, is not a painter. Had to be redone twice. not two coats but redone The flooring, done very well by an outside pro. The bathroom tile. still being rework. by Paco as it was not done right the first time. Some molding done. not the fault of them as I have doors being stained and they need to wait for them to finish. Altho I did not contract with DMKB, I was a renter in a private residence where they contracted to remodel a bathroom. I have to give them (1) star, because I can't give less. I was intimately involved with this process from the beginning. As an occupant of the house where the work was to be done, I was a part of the original design criteria and interviewing for the remodel. We (homeowner and I) were extremely up front and specific about what we wanted. We were able to provide a majority of the components by SKU, price and availability. Components included the tile, sink, faucet, drain, lighting fixture, shower heads and shower control valves. We also provided sketches of the overall appearance (positions of items within the space) We left it to them to determine the slot drain for the shower, shower bar, the corner toilet, the tilt out window, the inset medicine cabinet and the heated floor system. We had issues with all of those. We rejected their first estimate as too expensive. They returned with a lower estimate, saying they would use pricing for standard components and discounts, even though we had specified (according to our SKU's) what they called upgraded components. When we went to the office to view the software program that they had told us would show exactly what they would do for us, the rendering had several obvious discrepancies. (I had downloaded a free home design program, spent a couple of hrs and made a more realistic version.) After an attempt to correct those issues (not all were corrected) they told us the remaining issues would be corrected and we would receive those drawings. Never saw them. Believing the reviews we had read, we moved forward with DMKB. After they spent a huge amount of time they told us that they needed more money (totaling more than the original est.) to order the (now custom, no discounted) items on our parts list. We were already committed so we did that. When we asked why everything was taking so long, we were told that certain parts were not readily available, we contacted those suppliers and were told the items in question could ship immediately. I was on site whenever they were. Less than 75 hrs total. I was able to observe the operation from the start to when another contractor finished. DMKB told us all components would be delivered before work would start. After more waiting some of the materials arrived unannounced, with an incompetent employee who without asking and giving me no time to clean under the rugs I had to remove, taped paper to the floor from the front door to the bathroom and piled our sink, tile, toilet and other items next to the front door. After re stacking and assessing, we gave them a list of missing and incorrect parts. That employee started the demo of our bathroom, within 15 minutes he lacerated his hand on the tile he was removing. It was severe enough that he had to go to the emergency room to get stitches. I am not a carpenter but I do have some construction experience. So as I watched the work being done, I was able to intercede when I saw problems arise. For example, When the window was installed it was to high to see out of (after the first rework there was no flashing on the window so it had to be reworked again), and when the backing for the tile floor was installed with no sub-flooring under the threshold and the pre-existing furnace floor vent (that coincidentally according to the contract was to be moved before being covered over). Rework When the secondary shower valve showed up and was ready to install the employee told us we needed a costly change order to modify the wall to make it fit. (I asked if it was possible to modify the valve mount instead of the wall and was told, no. Later I checked the installation instructions and found out I was correct) I saw the layout for the heated floor showed the heater element under part of the shower pan and the controller on a different wall. I called the warm floors manufacturer and explained the issues I saw and they sent a revised floor layout. DMKBs electrical contractor told me that the inspector would not demand the circuit the floor needed, (20A) or need conduit in the wall. The inspector did not agree. More rework. They wanted to charge us extra to inset the medicine cabinet as shown in dwg. The original placement of the medicine cabinet, light, the sink and the shower niches did not reflect the drawing, some were able to be fixed some were not. We asked how long we would be without our only toilet, after explaining that I had prostate issues. We were told, an acceptable week or two that turned out to be 144 days thruogh winter, only ending a week after we hired an other contractor to finish to job. I saw complete incompetence, and rudeness. Don't use them. Save yourself. There is so much more but I have run out of space to finish. read more

I signed a contract in January and work hasn't even begun on my project as we are approaching May. I am hoping to update this review but, so far, their follow-up and response times are ridiculous. At this point, I wish I had never signed a contract with them. I feel scammed. Unless they really blow me away this month, I will never use them again. read more

SPECIFIC TO DREAMMAKER OF BEAVERTON OREGON Project Scope - Small master bath project ~$10,000 update including labor and materials - Removal of vinyl shower and replaced with a floor to ceiling tile shower with glass door as well as quartz countertops on the two small bathroom vanities. Timeline - We signed our job with DreamMaker of Beaverton in March of 2016 with the work completed in December of 2017. Total time from payment to completion 22 months. Original timeline planned to complete all work was 2 to 2.5 weeks. Major Challenges Communication - Owner and Staff do not communicate or follow-up with their clients very well or timely. As an example, in a period of just less than 4 weeks we called the Owner and Project Manager no less than 15 times total, sent a minimum 3 text messages and emailed approximately 8 times and did not receive a single response. Please note that the DreamMaker Project Manager and Owner believed this level of communication was acceptable and couldn't understand why I was disappointed. This type of service and communication made us feel as though we were not a priority and even asked "are you doing this on purpose". Project Managers, did not keep us informed of schedule or next steps frequently. We had to consistently ask for schedules, plans, and updates. We did get a verbal 2 day look ahead plan once, however, DreamMaker did not actually meet the plan as described. After bringing this to their attention they did follow up with a one week schedule in email but it took more than a week to get this. However, again, they did not execute to this plan. Our initial Designer was ultimately let go, but communication was a challenge as well. This could have been a result of him being let go and no one picking up the account. The contract specifically calls for consistent communication to minimize disputes and disagreements. From my read of the contract and how they executed through the entire process and as illustrated by the one example above, they did not fulfill their obligations around communication. Quality - They have been out to our home to fix their mistakes 5 times. 1) Shower Leaked damaging the ceiling below the shower. 2) After initial repair shower leaked again during water test 3) Grout would remain discolored even after weeks of no use. Water was trapped in the pan and wall and was not draining correctly. 4) Shower floor was pooling water and not draining correctly. Likely same root cause as above. 5) Replaced tiles were not installed correctly. a. Not lined up with existing tiles b. Grout line was minimum 3x as large as existing tiles 6) Replaced shower floor grout was discolored before a single use. 7) Installed backsplash above vanities is not level and grout lines vary beyond industry standards. - NOTE while we claimed this item with the DreamMaker we let it go as we no longer wanted them in our home. 8) Grout lines on repaired shower floor vary beyond industry standards. NOTE while we claimed this item with DreamMaker we let it go as we no longer wanted them in our home. Many issues still remain with the work that was completed, but we have elected not to have them perform any additional repairs. For us, the issues were primarily Communication, lack of planning and communication of planning, and lack of priority or urgency when fixing their mistakes (i.e. would not show up every day, some days worked 45 mins or less even when work could be done, not doing work in prep of material arrival, etc.). We requested meetings with the Owner more than once and each time our request was not addressed and ignored. When I did speak with the Project Manager and asked if the Owner would call me or pick up my calls (I had sent of breach of contract notice so thought he might want to discuss before moving to arbitration), he said "no, as there was no reason". No matter what the reason, if your customer has called and is requesting a meeting, seems like it is a good idea to have the meeting. read more

This is a building firm to AVOID. We made a large down payment on a small bathroom remodel in February 2017 and FINALLY had our 5' x 6.5' bathroom demolished the following October. After *very* little work was done beyond removing our only bathroom, and much of that rework of things that did not pass city inspection, we had to take out a loan to pay another firm to complete the bathroom the following March. We (two senior citizens) used a port-a-pot at the top of the driveway for 144 days - all winter in Oregon, through ice and snow. When we hired competent professionals, the remodel took one week - and would have been done more quickly except that Dreammakers short-ordered the tile we did have to work with........ DO NOT HIRE these incompetent jerks. Poor communications, repeated mistakes, shoddy workmanship. We have begun legal proceedings to recover the funds we provided DMBK/ Bender Industries and have filed a complaint with the State Construction Contractor Board. read more

Where do I begin? In lieu of writing a novel that details every moment of the entire experience my husband and I had with DreamMaker, I'll instead provide an overview score and the associated key components that led to us deciding to never work with them again. Overall Rating: 1/5 The "1" is merely because their primary worker, Paco, was hard-working and appeared to be the only one that would follow-through when asked questions or when he provided follow-up dates. Kerry, their "Contract Manager"/"Project Manager" was horrible to work with. He rarely returned calls, emails, or text messages--usually only doing so after my husband and I had called the office directly after being unsuccessful in getting him to respond to us. He would promise to follow-up with us and give dates (occasionally), but never actually do so, never providing an explanation nor an apology for leaving us hanging. His "craftsmanship", if you can call it that since he painted our ceiling and walls where the work was done, was poor, at best, and my husband and I still had to go back over his mistakes and repaint after his second round of touch-ups. Greg, our designer, was a nice guy but appeared over his head and poorly trained on the system and business processes that DreamMaker uses, which was evident in change orders that related to our pantry design, heat register in the kitchen, and the placement of the lighting fixtures in the kitchen ceiling (none of them line up and there was no accommodation made to address this issue following the change in design--by DreamMaker--regarding the kitchen pantry's size). Overall, however, Greg tried his hardest and did make every attempt (after initially dropping the ball early on in the process) to make things right so my husband and I hold no ill-will toward him. Josef, the owner, seemed more inclined to defend the lack of professionalism and poor customer service skills by Kerry than to actually address paying customer needs and concerns. He also was quick to place all blame on his former sales rep, Brandon, instead of honoring the items Brandon promised us during contract signing. He also refused to put the finish date in writing, even though it was promised to us when we initially signed the contract with DreamMaker, as well as promised to us by Kerry to which he never followed-up on (surprise). His promise to have his tile guy come back and fix issues with grout on our tiles was completely dropped and almost two months after the fact, we still haven't heard anything. To sum up the situation in a concise way, here's the most recent examples of our numerous negative reactions with DreamMaker: * We received a call at 6:47pm on Wednesday night from Kerry approximately 4 weeks after the job was completed with no voicemail left. His text message stated that they needed to have their electrician come back out to certify the permits/inspect since their original one dropped the ball and left the project unannounced early on. Kerry simply asked "will someone be there tomorrow to let them in". He didn't ask if it was convenient and didn't explain any further where this was coming from, especially since we had, during the last walk-through with him and Josef, confirmed that all permits were completed (they emailed us copies of them after we requested them which was part of their original contract anyway, though it felt like it was a special request from us for some reason). My husband responded back about an hour later after seeing the missed call and text asking for more information and we never heard any more about. No follow-up call, nothing. That was mid-March---it is mid-April now and still no word on this from anyone at DreamMaker. * On Friday March 30, my husband spoke with Greg regarding needing copies of invoices for some of the work done for our taxes and inquired about a newly formed crack over our new bathroom wall. Greg informed him he'd forward the inquiry to Josef and Kerry--- no word back and it's been over a week. * The project went 2 weeks over its scheduled end-date and during that time we could not get a concise revised end date from anyone. They had to come back and fix very obvious issues that would have been seen had they done a proper walk-through with Paco, however they left it to an already angry/disgruntled customer (i.e., my husband and I) to call and text and try to get some answers as to why damaged items were noted as "completed", why drywall was done poorly, why painting overlap and poor craftsmanship was left as-is, why lights were installed in the wrong place, why cabinets were not finished to acceptable quality, why trash from the remodel was left on our back deck, etc. Long story short, I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. Paco was great and Greg worked his butt off, but having to deal with Kerry was a daily migraine and Josef didn't seem to care too much that his company was represented by poorly equipped "professionals". read more

We contacted Dreammaker in Portland requesting a bid on an interior remodeling project. They seemed to be interested so we provided detailed sketches and a scope of work. They scheduled a home visit. They Cancelled and rescheduled. The day before the next meeting they cancelled again and rescheduled. Their estimator finally made it to an appointment (30 minutes early), stayed 10 minutes, took no measurements and didn't appear to know much about construction and materials. He promised to have an estimate within 24 hours. A week later and we have not heard back from them. Don't waste your time. We did. read more

Josef Bender as well as the other staff have provided exceptional experiences from design to completion of every job . They are always professional, courteous, and pay particular attention to detail. The quality of work was excellent. The jobs were completed on time. The workers always arrived on time and the job sites were always cleaned up at the end of every day. Any problems or concerns were addressed in a timely manner and were followed through until resolved. Overall excellent experiences. This is not just a review of one project, but several. I have recommended them to my friends and they also have given him and his crew 5 stars. I am very picky. I expect to get my money's worth. I can't give these people even 1 star. Their communication is terrible. They have delays and often forget about you. Once they have their money, they stop trying. Then they argue with you and try to set up a date just 2 days prior to install when a final design hasn't been approved. It was barely discussed. Then a verbal commitment of 15k was agreed to with 3 of their people and myself and 3 weeks later when reviewed they added 6k into the estimate. And told me my little project that several others bid on and said would take 1 week (5 days), these people said would take 4 -5 weeks. I stopped the contract. I refuse to deal with these very rude and unprofessional people. All they wanted was money and they went about that all wrong as well and now refuse to return money that does not belong to them as they did not do anything but measure 10 times. Seems they kept losing the measurements and their employees. I wouldn't trust these people to do anything. read more

had them do a partial bath remodel last fall. shoddy work and project took many times longer than necessary. workers would show up for a couple of hours than leave. caulking done on sinks without first cleaning the rim; result, caulk full of grit, plumbing leaked under one sink, other plumbing done with lines backward, real plumber finally dispatched, tub caulking sinking because of too wide a gap between tile and tub; i pointed this out before caulking started; installer response was "we'll just put in more caulk." should have used wood shims as i advised. the project more nightmare than dream; buyer beware. read more
