While Dreamland's Ribs are huge, and incredibly heavy, they aren't particularly meaty. And I'm not a big fan of the Mustard/Vinegar based sauce. As for Dreamland's "Chopped" Pork it taste great, but did have a strange mouth feel with the meat being diced into uniform small cubes. This place was a bit of a disaster. We were originally excited to try it as you could see their smoker and that aroma was in the air. But it was a mess from the get-go. Our order took over 30 mins. to be served, with no acknowledgement from the staff. Our appetizer, nachos, arrived and they were literally what you would get at a movie theater. Warmed up Tostitos with movie theater nacho cheese and some barbecued sauce cover chicken pieces. Our main courses were ok, but a couple orders were incorrect. We were then asked to pour the incorrect sides off the plates. The waitress stated the manager needs to see it before bringing over the correct side dish. This seemed like a very odd and suspicious thing to do. To finish it all off, for the first time in my life, about 4 members of our party of 7 found themselves ill that night from the food. One day I realized how much I seriously needed ribs. I could drive to The Pig in Chapel Hill, NC, but that would be a silly trip to make only for the sake of ribs. No, instead, I figured I could count on Dreamland BBQ. Dreamland is first an Alabama institution. The flagship continues to operate in Alabama, but we now are graced with 10 locations in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. I visited the Duluth location of Dreamland BBQ and was absolutely stunned by the temperature inside. It was a very cold day outside, and the cheapo owner must've wanted to save on the gas bill? Having been on the other side, I am never one to complain about the temperature inside of a restaurant. I say bring a jacket you whiners. Yet... I brought a jacket, kept it on, and I was still cold. My server was also shivering despite wearing a jacket. Be less cheap, ya jerks! I ordered a full rack of ribs and a small order of the barbecue chips. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and I was immediately disappointed. You don't get the entire rack of ribs on a big plate. You instead get the ribs chopped up. This isn't awful, but it hurts the aesthetic. The ribs and the chips were fairly average, but the sauce was truly incredible. It elevated the ribs to another level, featuring the perfect combination of tangy and spicy elements. You get a ramekin of the sauce on the side, and more sauce does not cost extra. I liked the food and service at Dreamland BBQ. Now, just make the dining room more hospitable for your staff and your guests! read more

I have been here multiple times and the food is always very fresh and delicious. The barbecue is always falling off the bone and very succulent to eat. I would really like to give this a 3.5 rating. I come here fairly often (maybe a couple of times a month). It's always decent, never mind blowing great. It is really close to where I live, so that helps make it a good destination for me. The smoked sausage, pulled pork and ribs are all pretty good. I am a fan of the baked potato, green beans and baked beans. I don't think the sauces are very good, but not horrible either. I generally get pretty good service and they have a parking lot next to it. If you are looking for the best BBQ in Atlanta, this is probably not going to be on your list, however if you are just looking for some pretty good food, it will do just fine. read more

Parking was easy, and DL is in downtown Duluth so you can walk around and relax before/after your meal. Staff is super friendly, nice menu selection and good variety of local and domestic beers, and is very family friendly. Also has tvs all around so it offers a sports bar feel. We got the fried okra, which comes with a tangy bbq mayo, the portion is more than enough for 2 people and comfortably provides a taste for 4. The waiter recommended the half chicken and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. The skin was nice and Smokey, the chicken was juicy, and they gave you bbq sauce on the side to enjoy as needed. The sauce is more thick than watery and had a nice peppery flavor. I enjoyed it so much were already planning a follow up visit next week! read more

I took a chance after reading the reviews on Yelp and ordered a combo platter with chicken and rib tips. I should have believed what I read. "best bbq in duluth" my ass. my first time here definitely proved itself to be the last time i'll be going here. my bf and i went there on the saturday of the fall festival. we only saw our waitress 3 times the hour that we were seated waiting for our food. the first time to take our order, which we knew what we wanted in total beforehand. the second time, was 30 minutes later with our drinks. before she brought them, she had to come back and ask us again what our drinks were. her excuse was that the tea was being made. made no effort to even tell us about such reason in the thirty minutes we were waiting. the third time was another 30 minutes later to apologize about the wait and say the kitchen was backed up, even though the party of 4 that was behind us got their food first. i think this was the worst service i've ever had. it's so disappointing that i saw her more at her other tables than at ours. we ended up taking our food togo. the pulled pork was crunchy and the pork ribs somehow tasted like eggs??? no flavor whatsoever. the sides were good though. we had mac and cheese and potato salad. the cole slaw was decent. if you like bland, crunchy bbq, this is the place for you. so embarrassing for them as this could really be a better place since it's in a good location. read more

This was alright barbecue. We were in the area on a beautiful Friday night and many restaurants were slammed, especially ones with outdoor dining options. We spotted a high top table on the adjacent patio and went inside to inquire - they are part of the bar area which is seat yourself, so we snagged the table. We weren't sure if there was a server outside or if you had to order at the bar. Someone finally came out with menus and I could tell when she took our order that it was going to come out completely wrong... which happened. But thankfully she brought us the items that were missing without having to send the whole thing back. We had the ribs, pork, chicken, smoked sausage, Mac and cheese, coleslaw, baked beans, and fries. I think the sides were probably the best part of the meal. Most of the meat was dry and they didn't give us any extra barbecue sauce or anything, just some ketchup packets. Everything was served on styrofoam. The location/scenery is beautiful as well. The food came out SO fast - which was a plus - because I was starving. They give you good enough portions, and the food ranges from 10-$20. I have visited this location many times and the service and food was great. However, I visited last evening and it was very disappointing. The service was very disappointing. I can understand that they were low on staff but our waitress seemed to walk around in a daze. There was enough servers for the clientele at that time. So, I am unsure what was causing the bad service. We asked for a drink refill and she never returned. We had to flag down another waiter for the refill. He was very kind and came back with it immediately. My pork was tough and very fatty as well as cold. My husbands ribs were very cold and tough as well. Once she brought us our bill it seemed to belong to another table. Then she returned with a bill that had a beer charge for the beer he never received. Amazing!!! I am very critical about my bbq ribs. Most are too greasy or over cooked and fall off the bone. Dreamland has been doing ribs right since 1953. Their are none better. ESPN use to cover their U of Alabama pregame show in front of the original restaurant in Tuscaloosa just so they could chow down before the big games, Roll Tide. This past Sunday at 1PM we went to the Duluth location. It took a while for anyone to acknowledge we were there. There were only 6 or 7 tables sat so they weren't busy. Service was slow. I ordered the Bbq chicken with baked beans and potato salad my fiancé had the 1/2 ribs with Mac n' cheese and green beans, our meals came with white bread too. My chicken was ok, just ok, the baked beans were just beans and the potato was just potato salad. First time to the new location. Really miss the Norcross location and Roswell is quite a drive so we were excited that the Duluth location finally opened. Service was a bit slow and I can tell the staff is new. We knew immediately what we wanted and ordered as soon as the waiter arrived and the food came to our table quickly. Unfortunately the ribs on one of the plates was very salty. So much salt (or seasoning) that I couldn't eat it. When I mentioned it to the waiter, he offered to replace the food. After he talked to the manager, however, I was told by the waiter that the manager said it would be the same. I asked for a new set of ribs. They brought out a new set of ribs and these were salty but manageable. The atmosphere feels more like a sit down restaurant and not a rib place/bar or a place that's been around a while. I'm hoping that the place will work out its new location kinks and become just as good as the Roswell location.
