My wife and I split a big one but really the kids syphoned it away from us like two hummingbirds. The kids split a mango one that I thought was really tasty and not too sweet. I started worrying midway like... is this actual tea? Is bedtime going to be at 1 am tonight? I honestly don't always know what I'm getting into as an infrequent boba consumer, but it all worked out and again I thought it was great. My sister and I stopped in to River Market on Wednesday afternoon, of course during the week the market is not blocked off, businesses are open but no farmers market. We shopped around the different stores- I wanted a Thai Tea but the store was not open yet so we went back after lunch. The store itself was cute, they have loose leaf tea that you can purchase, tea cups/sets, and some treats. The staff was nice, I placed my order at the counter top-Thai Tea with boba, and saw adorable and a lot of different flavored Macarons. I tried the fruity pebbles and my sister got a pistachio macaroon. We loved the macaroons but we were kinda disappointed in our teas-mine tasted kind of strong and more bitter, I like it a little sweet and just figured it would be. I can't remember what drink my sister ordered but she said hers was not sweet either. For all 4 items I paid $22.75, i would probably stop in again-it wasn't horrible but I'll def ask next time about the sweetness. read more

I enjoyed visiting Dragonfly Tea Zone when at the City Market in downtown Kansas City. They have a variety of selections on their menu - many different types of tea and toppings. I tried their house milk tea with boba, which was pretty good and not too sweet. The employees were friendly and the drinks are made quickly. When the lines are long, employees can take your order with a portable machine to expedite the process. I do wish there were more seating options - Some of the other restaurants have designated seating areas, but Dragonfly Tea Zone does not appear to have seating. Plus, they charge .55 cents to add boba to their tea (on top of the 5.80 drink), and the tea tastes weak as well. It was like drinking tart chemical water. They also charge .75 cents for no ice (per drink). I had thought that because they had a long line that they would be good. I ended up spending almost $20 for two boba tea drinks we couldn't enjoy. Went here with my girlfriend on a beautiful day to check out the City Market and also stopped by to get a nice cold beverage. She suggested the Mango Tropic which it sweet and tart with mango and passionfruit. It's like she knows what I like already and I do! Very refreshing and tasty. This bubble tea from the market downtown was actually good - and the bubbles were some of the best I've had in the Midwest, because they were nice and sweet and just the right amount of squidgy. However, the tea tasted a lot like coffee, which suggests Vietnamese style and is not my favourite for Bubble Tea - I prefer the original Taiwanese style. I was torn between 5 stars, and thought I'd probably give it 4 stars like most of the others in the Midwest. Service was nice although the wait time was long and I was in a hurry. Not because of the employees so much, but because people pushed in front of me, and took forever to decide. An extra employee would have been lovely. However the sweet compliment from the owner means it edges into 5 stars, and I'm looking forward to going back to try more products. Whenever I'm in the area, I make sure to stop and order bubble tea at Dragonfly Tea Zone. I'm never surprised when I see a line formed outside of the door. It truly is a great spot for tea. If you're not a tea person, they do have other beverage and food options available. My go -to is the Coconut Milk Bubble Tea. Recently, I added a newer order to go along with my bubble tea. I noticed by the counter that they had macaroons. I bought one Oreo macaroons and it was just okay. I most likely wouldn't try the macaroons there again. I used to get boba from here all the time whenever I would visit KC. Well, i live here now and it is not as good as I remember. I think it tastes a little 'powdery' or 'grainy' but that depends on what you get. My old favorite was the tarp milk tea with egg pudding. Though when i'm craving egg pudding i go here. Egg pudding is sort of a sweet and smooth. I would say it tastes like a sweet pudding but the texture is similar to flan. Flan is also good with Taro. Another thing, if you don't enjoy boba because it's too 'gooey' with the jelly casing that you feel around the boba, try crystal agar. It's also sweet but doesn't stick to your teeth like boba would. I LOVE BUBBLE TEA......so this review may be a bit biased since what I'm comparing this to is the boba I've tried in California and in Asia (China & Japan). This is your typical chain bubble tea shop. Nothing really outstanding ( I did like that they have a lot of filling options such as different jellies ---mango & lychee being my personal faves). They have a lot of options other than bubble tea too, if you / your friends don't like boba. I tried the jasmine milk tea with boba and it was average (was too sweet in my opinion). I like shops that let you choose ice and sugar levels, but I didn't see that option here (maybe it was an oversight on my part, idk). The worst Matcha I've ever had. It was very powdery and bitter even though I had it sweetened all the way. When asked Shania to remake it for me I was met with eye rolls and then she made the wrong drink. Once I told her this I was met with more eye rolls and her and the other worker outside began talking poorly about me. I definitely respect customer service workers and even tipped only to be met with disgusting customer service. In the end I was given the wrong drink again and asked to speak to a manager and was simply pointing inside and I left. This whole interaction left me with a horrible taste in my mouth for this establishment. Avoid the matcha like the plague. I wish I could give this place a 5 star rating, but I can't because sometimes they open super late (not on time at all) or they close early on slow days. In one girls opinion, I think that when the hours say you'll be open or you'll be closing a certain time, you need to stick with those times.
