My kiddo likes a their strawberry with rainbow pearls; definitely on the sweeter side but she liked it well enough. The wife had a matcha which she said was good as well, and is eager to dive further into their menu. They offer lots of seasonal specialties, classics, and a massive amount of fine-tuning so you can get your drink to your liking. You can adjust sweetness from 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% which is a nice touch. They did switch to a kiosk ordering a few years back, so it feels slightly impersonal, but they are efficient with their process. I really like the almond milk tea with pearls when the weather is right for it, and am always open to exploring new options here. They seem very friendly, very efficient, and have brought a much needed concept to the Plaza (and KC in general, tbh). Lots of interesting flavors that cater to more of a Western flavor profile. First time seeing a Redbull boba. It was amusing, but they did have more traditional flavors as well. Originally wanted a matcha, but it didn't look to be the best quality based on the muddy color. Ended up ordering the strawberry anchan latte with crystal boba and almond milk. Unfortunately, the almond milk overpowered any other flavors, so it ended up tasting like straight almond milk with some crystal boba. Pretty drink, but wouldn't get it again. Needed a boba pick me up in KC and Bruu Cafe did just the trick! The space is very cute and minimal on the inside. The ordering kiosk provided a lot of photos to give you an idea of what the drinks will taste and look like which is helpful if you're new to boba and teas. I went with the Milk Tea Cheese Macchiato -- it was one of the specials and recommended by the staff member working. I decided to get it 50% sweet which ended up being too low, the drink was a little bitter. The sweetness levels are always a little confusing to me because I don't want to over do it. The boba pearls were yummy though. Overall it was okay, but didn't wow me. My husband got one of the Red Bull drinks that was actually pretty good but very, very sweet. This was my first boba (I know I know)-- I mean, I've had tastes of other people's - but never ordered for myself. My wife insisted we pop in and since I was starting to drag, I figured it couldn't hurt. Imagine my relief when I saw they had a Red Bull-based drink on the menu. I couldn't order it quickly enough. My sister had given me a gift card to this place for Xmas since I'm an avid bubble tea drinker (tried approx 60ish boba places since June 2022) and she wanted to try bubble tea for the first time so we were excited to try it out and use the gift card before our flight the next morning. We ended up ordering 3 fresh milk creme brûlées, 2 passionfruit teas (one with 0% sugar and one with 75%) and a hot thai coffee. 2 of our 6 drinks were ordered separately first on the touchscreen menu. We were ordering the remaining 4 drinks on the touch screen menu and one of the two people working was very short and unfriendly telling us to use the other screen to order so it would be faster but we wanted to pay with the gift card and one credit card. And we were just about to place the order. She seemed frustrated and flustered that we were wanting to use a gift card because they don't accept gift cards on the touchscreen and she had to use an iPad to process payment. While I get that sometimes it seems less than ideal to get customers right before close if you're in a hurry to get somewhere after work but 17 mins before close isn't the worst and that's potentially 7 new regular customers...so while you don't have to bend over backwards...the least they could've done was not give attitude. I've previously worked as a server for many years so I get that it can be frustrating sometimes but we were not being rude at all. While ordering I had a simple question because my go-to is jasmine oat milk tea and there was no option to add oat milk to the jasmine green tea. She abruptly said they don't have jasmine milk tea. So I chose passionfruit tea since it had real passion fruit in the picture. Passionfruit tea - they actually did not have any real passionfruit in them at all despite being advertised with it. I don't know if they normally do and they decided to not include it because they were in a bad mood or if the photo is just totally misleading...but the passion fruit tea didn't even taste like real or artificial passionfruit. And on top of that the drinks were incorrectly labelled - I received the 75% sugar passion fruit tea with a 0% label. But our friend got the 0% with a 75% label. Luckily we figured it out and switched after awhile but I didn't end up drinking mine because the drink was disgusting...not due to lack of sugar but because it literally tasted like a really boring low quality teabag flavored peach tea or something. 0/5 The creme brûlée drinks were good. It's a drink that is a pretty safe recommendation for most people who have never had bubble tea or rarely have it. It had a really nice caramel brown sugar flavor but I didn't like that you can't make any modifications at all to sugar or ice. My sister liked it but as the drink went on..realized it was too sweet. 3.75/5 The boba itself was okay. Cooked all the way through, soft, chewy but could've had better flavor. They were slightly larger size than average and decent portion in each cup to almost have enough to the end of the drink. 3/5 The design, color scheme and decorating of this place is very cute though. Overall, my ratings average to 2.25. I was going to set my review to a 3 star but because the service was unnecessarily rude and the passionfruit tea was misleading and so incredibly disappointing I'm making it a 2. We are from out of town and we visited this café and it ended up being horrible. we placed an order and accidentally threw away our receipt because we didn't know that we had to keep it. Now I'm known amongst my friends to be annoyingly picky when it comes to boba. I have high expectations for how the quality of the boba should be. Bruú Café did not disappoint.
