    Breakfast Panini - To Go!
    RJ P.

Loved that this cafe opens up early, there were regulars waiting and a fair few tourists like us! The food was good and well prices, the chai latte was very good and the Latte my hubby had smelled and tasted divine! All in all, quick morning stop helped our day start perfectly! Thanks Ladies!!

No trip out towards the Kootenays is complete without a stop at the dragonfly cafe in Salmo. I would plan a trip so it fits in as the lunch stop. Lots of great paninis, my favorite is the Californian. Guac, Mozza, chicken- it's crunchy on the outside, gooey on the inside goodness! It's an internet cafe with great coffee too so not a bad spot to stop and check reservations (or yelp reviews) online.

It is owned by The Twelve Tribes, a small religious community based about twenty minutes outside of town at Mt Sentinel Farms. Much of the wonderful comfort food they serve is grown on their farm, and the staff are all part of the Mt Sentinel community-the men wear pony tails and beards, the women dress in long skirts, and the place has a quiet, homey vibe. The community's vision was to open a small café offering a simple menu in a comfortable living-room-style setting, but the place is so good that they recently opened an adjacent house to hold all the people who were lining up for a wholesome, delicious meal. They keep odd hours, so I'd recommend checking their schedule before setting your heart on a visit. My favourite thing to get here is the BBQ Tofu Salad Wrap, which is made with smoky tofu, sweet creamy barbecue sauce, and crisp veggies wrapped on a soft whole wheat tortilla. The description doesn't do this addictive sandwich justice. The veggies are incredibly fresh, the sauce is unbearably delicious, and I can't even begin to describe how ridiculously good the smoky tofu is. I have the opportunity to eat this tasty wrap just one time every year or two, but the flavour is permanently imprinted on my tongue.

It has a great theme with the wooden spoons everywhere, cool old tin panels in the ceiling as well as the burlap bags. You order at the counter, pay and get your numbered wooden spoons which you place in a glass milk carton at the table you choose while awaiting your food. There is plenty of brick inside the restaurant which is always something I like. The woman who took or order said that the owner had bought the place behind them and they were blowing out the wall in between the two establishments so the kitchen can service two places. Sounds good right? The problem we had was that the breakfasts we got were not hot, I mean barely warm. My sunny up eggs were barely done, still alot of clear in the whites. My two halves of toast were put together, butter to butter. The second pieces together for my entire meal I was going to put marmalade on after I had finished all but them. The butter had not even melted into the toast, it was still whole butter. Everything tasted quite good, but it has to be hot. We would certainly return, but it fell just short of the mark. Too bad!

He got the Tiger Spiced Chai, and I got the Honey Nut Latte. I will say my latte could have used a bit more flavor - it was a little bitter, but that could just be their bean blend. It was still pretty good though. Prices were also good! The atmosphere is very nice with the blend of rustic touch and modern features. Loved all the spoon decor.
