Service is shit. Don't expect to get your coffee quickly, the workers will be gossiping too much for that level of efficiency. Food is okay most of the time, if a little overpriced. But this is Nelson so that's a given. read more

Vernon Street, Nelson BC location my go to, and a recently added location at the Prestige Lakeside Resort.serve exceptional savory baked specialties including dill pickle pizza (better than you imagine...) Amazing breakfast sandwiches, very cool location, subpar coffee. Cappuccino was just an 8oz cafe au lait. Despite the great volume of liquid milk, the espresso itself had odd flavor notes. Cortado came in an 8oz cup and was basically a double shot mixed with some warm milk. 99.9% of good espresso drinks is giving a damn and training. Empire has some work to do here. read more

Every once in a while you walk into a place and everything just feels right. This is one of those places. The coffee was great. Although it shouldn't matter, I really did enjoy the decor here. I would have rated Empire Coffee at a 5 but the person taking our order at the till was just too humorless to make this a perfect visit. read more

I love this restaurant and my favourite thing to order is the medium hot chocolate no whip cream and this is what gets me too why I only rated it four out of five because I don't know if anyone else does this but i like to use the to go cups even when I'm there even though I know they wash the cups but I just don't like it anyways whenever I ask for a to go cup the employees always criticize me which I don't need when I just want my hot chocolate but I still recommend this cafe read more

Empire coffee is the perfect coffee spot! Not only do they have excellent coffee, they serve a variety of baked items and sandwiches. Excellently pulled espresso shots of Stumptown coffee paired with silky smooth foam makes for an outstanding latte. Their chai had the perfect amount of spice and sweet. The atmosphere is clean and engaging, a thoughtfully designed space. The large sun room seating is the perfect spot to enjoy the mountain views while staying cozy by the fire or soaking up the suns rays. Service was friendly and informative. read more

My wife ordered a London Fog and it was not acceptable (she drinks these all the time) so she had them remake it. Still not good the second time so she got just a small coffee instead. Even though there was an almost $3 price difference they did not offer a refund. The mocha latte I had was so so at best but my daughter's hot chocolate was good. The coffee is delicious! My boyfriend enjoyed his regular coffee and breakfast sandwich The latte I had was delicious and not too strong - the way I like it. I had the Pacific Breakfast sandwich and although it was okay, it was messy and had too much going on.. They would be better off not to smother the trout in too many messy ingredients. It was not pleasing from a textural sense and the flavours were not blending well. Perhaps the person making it did not know how to put it together properly. I would go again for the coffee for sure and perhaps try a different menu item. read more

The food and coffee are good, but despite having 4 people on staff on a weekday morning at 9:30, they are incredibly slow and inefficient. They were nice about making us wait, but waiting 20 min to get a few breakfast sandwiches because the person making them does one at a time is insane. They also messed up our order for the vegetarian in our group, but by then we didn't want to wait any longer. I'd only go here if I had absolutely nothing to do or nowhere to be...with something to entertain myself as well. read more

Generic urban decor and starbucks imitator, hardly reflective of the Kootenay DIY that makes Nelson great. Nothing is offered that you can't get anywhere else on the continent, except higher priced mediocrity than other urban centres. After giving them a couple of tries over a couple of months I am never going back. They can not make a good machine coffee to save their lives. read more

I'm a local and I can tell you we have a lot of coffee houses in Nelson. I like Empire a lot and find it is my go to place these days. The coffee is great and the sandwiches, salads, soups and other edibles are really good too. I like most of the other coffee shops as well, but this one stands out for me in Nelson...probably the ambiance and the outdoor seating area give it an edge over the others. read more

I've been to this place a few times now and very much enjoy the atmosphere for a cup of something hot and a pastry. I would absolutely recommend the carrot cupcake..IT IS AMAZING! The frittata was mediocre - tasted like day old spongy eggs on the outside, but the sauce they serve with it is tasty. The americano and London fog I ordered were both ok. I've also ordered the cinnamon roll which is lovely. All in all, excellent atmosphere, and I will definitely return for some pastries and hot beverages. read more
