This review is solely for the fact that I have never been able to find a better hot and sour soup than Dragon Express. I've lived in busy cities with amazing food options, and still nothing tops this hot and sour soup. I want it to be the last thing I eat on this earth. Any time I am near Mount Pleasant I make it a point to stop here for the most reasonably priced delicious quarts of hot and sour soup money can buy and typically bring at least 4 quarts home to freeze with me. It's a real bummer because I like the food but twice when I've gotten carry out they left out the sauce for sweet and sour chicken. When I let them know they didn't offer to compensate me for the mix up at all, even when I let them know I live across town and had already gotten home when I realized. First time here, I got the orange chicken and fried rice. The chicken doesn't taste like chicken and had an off texture, like it was chewy and rubbery. The rice was okay, didn't have much of a taste though. Not sure about the rest of the menu but I definitely won't be getting the orange chicken again. read more

It's clean, tasty, and they give great portion sizes. Service is very nice. Lunch combo of getting free soup or egg roll is probably the best part of this place. They have a birthday discount too. We tried this place for the first time. Our order was delivery. It arrived quickly and was hot, however this is some of the worst Chinese and Fusion we have ever had. Everything was bland. There was no flavor-only a slight soapy taste. We ordered 4 different items to try and after a few bites...it all got tossed in the garbage. It was tasteless and not eatable at all. I think that I spent around $5 and had enough food for 2 really filling meals. Dragon Express has a great reputation, probably because of the portions and price. Two good and big portions of food over rice (I preferred steam rice) for only about $7 ... and I really like the food. The hot & sour soup is especially good too. My family moved away from Mt. For me, Dragon Express is a convenient, quick, and cheap meal. It's close to the Towers (south campus) and they don't close until ten. With 5-7 bucks you're able to get more than enough for you and maybe another person. The service is quick and they keep customer service problems to a minimum. The food isn't bad either. Good place to go if you're on campus or the south side of town and crave large portions of Chinese food. They have a decent vegetarian tofu dish and the chicken szechuan is good. Huge portions, which they will pare down if you ask for less. It's a typical quick-service Chinese restaurant, with tasty, but pretty generic Chinese food. We're not talking gourmet here, but if you're a hungry student on a budget, you could do worse. What to expect: 3-4 entree-type foods on the steam table, egg rolls, crab/cheese wontons, 2 soups. They do have a full menu and will cook-to-order anything you want, but it's faster to select from the items available on the steam table. They will PILE the rice into your (styrofoam) take-out tray, so if you don't want a bunch of rice, tell them to only give you half (or none). If you like egg-drop soup, try theirs -it's not your typical, made-from-a-mix egg-drop soup. (Might be made from a mix, but doesn't taste like it. You can almost taste the cardboard box the mix came in at some restaurants!) The egg-drop here is a rich broth, thick with egg, vegetables and - surprise - little cubes of tofu! Very tasty. A small cup of this soup is very filling and makes a great lunch on a cold day. Prices are incredibly low, the staff is always friendly and accommodating. If you have to find a place to study and use wi-fi, they'll let you sit there all day as long as you're buying food now and then. The food quality has gone way down. Went there for lunch on a Friday. All of the food tasted like it was from the previous day and re-heated. Sweet & Sour Chicken that was cooked to a second death (no moisture at all), Crab Meat Cheese that there was no crab meat and very little cream cheese in and the won-ton wrappers were under-cooked. A timeless Mount Pleasant classic, dragon express serves out huge portions for a reasonable price, portions which last me more than one meal. Thank god they serve everything in a to go container! Don't stray away from what you know is the tried and true choice for fast food Chinese, the orange chicken. Everything else I am a bit skeptical of, but the orange chicken is so good I don't ask questions. Decent hot sour soup.
