    Great wine.

Matt and his whole team make the wine tasting experience a hoot. Good wine across the board and a real nice atmosphere. We have been members for a couple years and have yet to be disappointed. Good stuff!

Oh the Tiffany lights...this tasting room in The Old Suagr Mill had a vibe. It was dark and moody with the soft light from these colorful lamps and the rustic wood slab counters. Definitely a dragon feeling to it. Hubby and I shared a flight since I like whites and he likes reds. They charged us for just one tasting and I believe we got a discount for buying a bottle...or 2. The Rosè and the Petite Syrah were very good here. I recommend just coming in and hanging out here. Have a tasting, then get a glass or two and just soak in the ambiance.

Wow. Wow. Wow. This place is IT. They make their wine completely different than what "we" are used to. Less tannins, more robust fruit flavors. Also as their wine ages the taste gets softer. We tried the 2019 Merlot, 2018 Merlot, and the flavor was very different. Tried the entire tasting and it was $15 per person (which is waived with the purchase of a bottle). Let's just say we left with 3 bottles. Likely my favorite winery at The Old Sugar Mill.

Enjoyed a delicious wine tasting here on a Saturday afternoon in July. Draconis is located in the beautiful Old Sugar Mill building right across the river from Sacramento. Their space is decorated according to their name with dragon statues and a dark red and black color scheme. The Tiffany lamp shades are quite eye catching as well. We did the $10 tasting and enjoyed everything we tried. I'd definitely stop in for a bottle next time I get to visit the Sugar Mill.

Dragon-Blessed Zinfandel! SITREP I am not really a fan of Red Wine. I'll dabble with Rose, and perhaps find a glass of Merlot that I really like, but I'll avoid other reds. [Still not a fan of Cabs, no matter what.] But I have to admit I was taken aback by the Zinfandels we found here! THE SETUP Located inside "The Sugar Mill" - a cooperative of several different wineries in Clarksburg, CA that reside, yes, in an old sugar mill - Draconis is a delightful boutique winery that features some pretty impressive reds! My work-crew were actually were looking forward to coming out to Draconis today as part of a team-building outing this past weekend, but one that didn't really focus on work, but rather to just HAVE FUN! Clearly fans of dragon lore will enjoy the spirit of this winery that actually arises from the dragon breath of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), even though everyone is to free associate the lore of Game of Thrones as well! It was my first time at the Old Sugar Mill and I didn't know which winery to choose for a tasting. I'm only good for a pour so my choice had to be spot on to make the best out of my excursion to Clarksburg. Draconi's beautiful room with its warm glow, stained glass lamps and magical dragon seemed to promise a legendary experience. Well we didn't get to sample in the room because of current restrictions and were instead led outdoors. The day was beautiful and we had a great host, "D", who has a passion for wines, wine making and the industry as a whole. We loved hearing his explanations about the wines and wine in general, and walked away with nuggets of knowledge plus a wonderful bottle of wine. The Zinfandel Dark Style is bold, jammy and could complement just about any meal or mode of drinking. Choosing Draconis was a wise choice indeed.

As with most wineries/vineyards/tasting rooms it all comes down to the overall experience. Did I like all the wines? No, but that should be expected. Lots of varietals that are just 'not for me'. That being said, Matt was great in explaining the process of what the wine goes through before ending up in the bottle and it is absolutely fascinating. The wine is so smooth and drinkable and Matt is completely engaging and intelligent and funny. The tasting room is gorgeous too. I will be going back and purchasing several bottles. I highly recommend stopping in for a tasting and the experience.

A new winery in the Sugar Mill, yay! This one is outside around the back in one of the creepy-yet-cool old abandoned factory rooms. Their wines are surprisingly good and unlike the others in the Mill, they're priced by the vintage alone. The tasting fee is $5 but waived with a purchase. The zins were my favorite of the bunch and it's pretty neat how they do it -- all single vineyards but one batch in French oak and the other in American. Word on the street is that they're also doing beers, but that wasn't available during the time of our last visit.

Shoutout to the West Sacramento/ Clarksburg area…read more... The Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg is a historic beet sugar refinery from 1934-1993 that has wine shops and tasting rooms for local wineries. They have over a dozen wineries. Wine tastings average $15 and most wineries waive the fee if you buy a bottle. They have wine shops in the main building and in the other building. Don't forget to walk back and to the right to the shops in the separate back building, there is 3-4 more wineries. Each winery are literal walled shops with their own seating areas. Temperature controlled which is nice on hot summer days. Each have their own wine tasting, food offerings, and special events. Old Sugar Mill is less than 15 minute drive from downtown Sacramento. The buildings are beautiful. They kept the historic brick walls and exterior. It has a modern shabby chic look. Three different brands owned the refinery. It all began in 1934 with Amalgamated, American Crystal Sugar Factory (1936-1982), and Delta Sugar (1983-1993). The sugar was refined by local Northern Californian grown beets. The buildings was renovated in 2000 for its current use. Awesome concept and beautiful architecture design. They also host weddings and events. They have a banquet room with slideshow equipment. There is also an outdoor lawn and adjoining paved patio area that is shaded in the afternoon by the buildings that would make for a gorgeous wedding venue. On hot summer days, the Delta breeze kicks in for instant cool down. No outside food are picnics are allowed. On the weekends, they have food trucks. Plus the majority of the wineries sell food (appetizers) as well. Also no pets are allowed (excluding service animals). The restrooms are located right by the front entrance.

I loved chocolate and my husband is always up to trying another port. Parking- They have a private lot and we were able to easily find a parking spot right in-front of the entrance. Bathrooms- They have many stalls in the bathroom located to the left of the entrance. Temperature- It's cool inside, a little too cool for us today. It was 63 degrees out today and warm in the sun. I bet in the sweltering heat of our summers this is the perfect place to be. The Sugar Mill is an indoor venue. They have three different building with different wineries at this time. So, there is a little walking outside. Wine Barrels- You can buy half wine barrels for your garden for sale. Seating- They have lots of little seating areas. Inside they have a whole room with seating and nice decor. The tables are draped in white table cloths and there are stacks of wine barrels as the back drop. They have a palm court in the back and it's so quaint and beautiful. Perfect for sipping some wine slowly and chit chatting with friends. If you are looking to sit in the sun there is are a set of tables and chairs out back near the food truck. Ambiance- I love the location and building. It's an old Sugar Mill that produced sugar from sugar beets. That industry has now ended and it's now a place to visit many wineries. It's the only place that I know of that have numerous wineries and offer wine tasing for a minimum fee.

We got married at Scribner Bend in May 2025 and it was a dream from start to finish!…read more Scribner Bend was the only venue we visited during our wedding planning process because we felt so pleased with the beauty, charm, pricing, and process they offered. We were especially pleased by how much was included in the venue package that we didn't have to coordinate separately, like lighting, tables, and chairs. Shaye was an absolute delight to work with and we always felt cared for. As a queer couple, it was so nice to feel welcomed and accepted by Scribner Bend and all of their preferred vendors we spoke with. May was the perfect time to be there, the white roses on the arches were in bloom which complemented the rest of our florals beautifully. Our whole day flowed so smoothly thanks to Deija, our day-of planner provided by Scribner Bend, and all of the rest of the staff. All of our guests were so complimentary of the wine, the setting, and the flow of the evening. We really could not have wished for a better venue experience. We also want to note, Paesanos was an exceptional caterer! I know some might be concerned with not having a choice of caterer but we found it to be a relief (one less vendor to coordinate) and Paesanos did a fantastic job. Rain was amazing at communication, and Diana was wonderful to work with on the day. They even packed up a couple of containers of leftovers for us to go home with. And it is a source of great pride to find our local, Greater Sacramento-Delta Bogle wines when we travel outside of California or USA. In fact, we were thrilled to enjoy a bottle in Shanghai, China! But we had never been to the Bogle Family Ranch and Vineyards outside of Clarksburg, CA. We finally reserved a couple of hours to visit the winery - and can't say enough good things! We enjoyed several, terrific wines not available in our local stores - such as their delicious Sparkling Rose! But more importantly, experienced a lovely afternoon on the BEAUTIFUL Bogle Family Ranch grounds! Everything around us was green and gorgeous; with cool breezes due to the surrounding water of the Sacramento River. The picnic tables were warm and inviting. The snacks were great (we brought a picnic lunch). And EVERY employee with which we spoke was excited to educate and inspire us - taking great pride in Bogle Family's six generations of Delta farming; sincere commitment to sustainability and the community; and vision of how the family plans to continue the winery's growth and international expansion, while maintaining its commitment to winemaking excellence. Every staff member that we met had been Bogle employees for over 10 years at least (a couple over 30!). I think it really says a lot about a company and family when their employees promote and compliment - even when the bosses are not in the room! While we had originally planned just a one-time visit to the Bogle vineyards, we left as Bogle Family Wine Club Members. The wine and property are lovely -- unfortunately the welcome at the door felt like an audition for "Most Judgmental Winery Greeter." When we walked in, the woman at the front greeted us with a slow head-to-toe scan before even saying hello. For context, we weren't exactly stumbling in from a river float -- Patagonia, designer black jeans, nice casual wine-country attire. My partner was dressed similarly. Completely normal for a winery visit. Since it was my first time there, I asked where we should go. She informed us -- while continuing the visual inspection -- that upstairs was reserved for more formally dressed guests with reservations. The upstairs area, by the way, was completely empty. She then told us we could "go help ourselves around the corner." The tone was less "welcome to wine country" and more "you appear to be beneath the staircase." Honestly, I've been to plenty of wineries, from casual tasting rooms to higher-end spots, and I've never been greeted with that level of instant judgment. It was oddly hostile for a place that literally sells a beverage meant for relaxing. The ironic part is that after getting past that moment, the rest of the experience was actually nice. The wine was good, the grounds are pretty, and the other staff we interacted with were perfectly pleasant. But that initial interaction? Brutal. If first impressions matter (and they do in hospitality), someone might want to let the front door know that sizing people up like a nightclub bouncer at 1am isn't exactly the warm, welcoming winery vibe most people are hoping for. Great wine. Beautiful place. One spectacularly toxic greeting.
