Royal Oak Shoe Repairs and Keys is fantastic! Located in the Royal Oak shopping mall (on the…read moreMcDonalds side), there is plenty of onsite parking available. Mum and I have come here a number of times to get our shoes repaired. They always do a wonderful job and best of all its cheap! There are so many shoe repair stores that rip you off!! The only down fall I have with this place is that it isn't located conveniently to me. As it's in a direction I never go in, sometimes it's easier to go elsewhere due to convenience. However when I needed to get two pair of boots fixed, I made the journey to come here as I knew I wasn't going to be charged an arm and a leg, also I would be happy with the result. If you have the time to drive to Royal Oak to drop your boots in, I would totally recommend coming to Royal Oak Shoe Repairs & Keys. You won't be disappointed.

John Pearce Shoe Repairs is where my family religiously takes our shoes to get fixed. Whenever a…read moresole is starting to wear through, a heel is about to fall off or a zip no longer functional, then without any doubt we take our shoes down to John Pearce and know that he will be able to do something about it. Prices aren't overly expensive either for the high standard of craftmanship he puts into his work, and I don't think I have ever had to take anything back again after he has fixed it once. Thank you John Pearce Shoe Repairs for injecting a boost in the life of some of my much-loved, well-worn shoes - both me and my feet have appreciated it!

We were visiting from the US and returning home the next day when we discovered our suitcase zipper was (what seemed) broken beyond repair. My husband made it significantly worse with his attempts to fix it and everyone we talked to said to go to Gemmell's. I saw why immediately! They were absolute miracle workers and so wonderful about everything. They recognized our time crunch with our imminent departure and stepped in and saved the day and the trip for us. Thank you so very much - I wish we had a Gemmell's!

Col's Cobble Shoppe is an Auckland institution. Located on Dominion Road and having first opened in…read morethe 1970s, Col's spans across three generations and is known by most of central Auckland as the one stop place to go for all your shoe needs. Though brilliant at shoe repairs, Col's offers more than just this service. As a real cobbler, Col's has a small range of their own footwear available, besides every accessory imaginable to spruce up your existing footwear. Col's has also been known to undertake special projects such as repairing guitar straps, putting new buckles and domes on bags, and even reshaping shoes. In my youth I was a competitive Irish dancer, and Col's Cobble Shoppe was one of the few places in town that understood the requirements for my hard shoes. He re-fiberglassed the toe on numerous occasions, as well as re-soling my soft shoes and repairing their insoles. This service saved my life, and my feet! Col's is open six days a week and with on-street parking available, there really is no excuse for putting up with broken or uncomfortable footwear. Get your shit together and save your feet the aggravation! Bonus: As an independent family owned company, you feel like you are doing your bit to support local business when you shop at Col's.

Dr. Who you say? You…read moreknow, the Shoe doctor on Great North Road in Henderson, the one who knows how to resuscitate your favorite pair of shoes! By the time I discovered this place, my favourite pair of heels was on its last legs! Dr. Shoe managed to re-balance my worn heels and breathe new life into them! He also re-soled my boots and did a fine number on capping a pair of stilettos for me. His work isn't cheap but I'm a big fan of any man who can rescue a damsel's shoes in distress! That's right lads, most modern women don't need rescuing in the traditional sense! Hell, some of us can even change a flat tyre in stilettos but we still need a Knight in Shining Armour to rescue our poor soles!

So feeling optimistic l I headed to The Cobbler shop in Orewa. The cobbler tut tutted a little bit, and told me he would 'see what he could do'. My hopes plummeted. A week later I came back and was stoked to see a fully operational pair of shoes, heels n all. He had to do full on surgery apparently so it did set me back $30 (nearly another for whole pair) but I was pleased. I've since worn them to two weddings and a day at the races and the heel is still intact. The Cobbler Shop, nice job!

That usually means that they do not look good on you but you are in denial, so then you find yourself at the checkout anyway, happy that you are getting new clothes but you also feel slightly uncomfortable because you are dealing with that denial on a subconscious level. Maybe you are not as neurotic as me, but if you are and you do find yourself at home with new clothes that do not fit properly, take them to Rev Vamp, a talented tailor who, considering his very central location, is extremely reasonably priced. He only charged me $25 to hem my pants, half the price of the guy that I used previously, and I went to work the next day not feeling like a kid who was borrowing his dad's pants - always a good feeling.
