If you come here you will be welcomed upon arrival, and if you are shopping for suits or shirts you will in no time have a tape measure under your armpits and in the case of a suit your inner thigh as well as waist. Once your sizing has been narrowed down then a few more measurements will be made before your suit is packed up and sent off for tailoring. Don't expect any change out of $1500 for a suit, in saying that my partner tells me that his Crane Brothers suit is the best suit he owns, and if he could justify the expense he would get all his suits there. The suits fit and sit beautifully, tapered and tailored in all the right places and make a man look his best.

As a female, I can't comment on the suit-purchasing process, but having narrowish hips and a penchant for menswear I have actually had two pairs of pants made to measure from the High Street store. The first was a navy wool/cashmere blend with jet pockets and a button fly. They are quite special to me, partially because of the high price (which varies based on the cloth you choose) and obviously because they are made to fit me. The second is a beige cotton pair based on the first - just for casual Summer days, but equally as valued in my wardrobe. And in that is the crux of it all: Crane Brothers makes and sells special clothes and accessories for men. They stock the Gubb & Mackie range for those looking for something less formal, and a nice range of ties, boxers, socks, wallets, fragrances and the like. I find it very expensive, which if fine if you get the perfect end result as you are trusting them with your clothing, but sometimes I didn't get the perfect end result. The last item I got altered here was a pair of pants and they came back too short. This was gutting because they then had to let the hem out to make them a bit longer and they just didn't look right after, not too mention it meant I was without the pants for longer than initially expected. I'm sure the bad experiences I had here aren't regular occurrences as I have had some excellent alterations here, but the bad ones I did have were enough to cause me to look for somewhere else and to be honest I am glad I did as I love my new place.

They are on Broadway, Newmarket and sell suits. No heavy thinking really needed for that one. They tailor suits. That's why the staff member has a tape measure around his neck. They are rude. Younger people should be seen and not heard. Suits are for business gentlemen or weddings. Anyone who looks older or wealthier than you will be served before you will even be acknowledged. I wasn't entitled to a greeting until the older customers left the store and then I was made to feel like I had been lurking around the store. They are superior to any customer or any other business. Questions will not be tolerated as they know best. It was laughable that I would be looking for a winter coat at the beginning of Autumn. That I was to wear a suit, collared shirts and ties almost incomprehensible. Just because it says they sell suits, don't think this is the alpha and omega of suits. Their supposed monopoly on Newmarket suits is reflected in their prices (read: ties on sale for $160). There are other, more customer friendly menswear stores around Newmarket and Auckland, where you can pay better prices for the latest seasons fashion.

Trust me, this helps because lots of other stuff goes wrong so it's good to rely on one element going smoothly. They were friendly when they were measuring us up and helpful with my XXL waistcoat - I was heavier back then. Everything was ready for pick up on the day and fortunately they didn't make any cock ups with clothes or the sizes or anything like that. They actually rang us a few days later telling us to come in and see them. We popped in and they handed us the marriage licence - it turns out our best man left it in his pocket. Overall, they did a good service with our suits and I would recommend them.

That usually means that they do not look good on you but you are in denial, so then you find yourself at the checkout anyway, happy that you are getting new clothes but you also feel slightly uncomfortable because you are dealing with that denial on a subconscious level. Maybe you are not as neurotic as me, but if you are and you do find yourself at home with new clothes that do not fit properly, take them to Rev Vamp, a talented tailor who, considering his very central location, is extremely reasonably priced. He only charged me $25 to hem my pants, half the price of the guy that I used previously, and I went to work the next day not feeling like a kid who was borrowing his dad's pants - always a good feeling.

They charged…read more$460 which is fine but when I collected them and got home the trousers from one of the suits were missing. I called and was informed they included everything but would keep and eye out. No Call whatsoever, after 3 weeks I called and of course they found them. No apologies, I just went in, they handed them over, and good bye. To make matters worse, they didn't even do the work on the pocket that was part of the $460. Seriously - avoid this place like the plague, unresponsive, zero customer service, and poor work (if they even do it)
