A miracle worker!…read more We took a pair of boots into Col's that we'd been told to chuck out by another shoe repair place because the soles had huge holes in them and were basically no longer attached, and the fabric-y bit that's between the sole and your foot had holes in it also. Because my husband loved those boots like nothing else in his life (!) he decided to keep them, despite not being able to wear them (!!). Boot ornaments, if you will. Sigh. i took them in on a whim when I was taking some shoes of mine in to be re-glued, and lo and behold he said they could be fixed! He did say it would be pretty costly, since he was basically rebuilding the bottoms of the shoes, but the 'costly' figure ended up being $54 for both shoes, which is considerably cheaper than new boots, so seemed reasonable to us! The boots did take a couple of weeks longer than he originally said they would, which we weren't bothered about since they were just boot ornaments at the time anyway, but just worth bearing in mind if you need dramatic repairs on a deadline. Will take all my shoes there for repairs from now on, especially as it's an independent, locally-owned store. Yay Col's!

So feeling optimistic l I headed to The Cobbler shop in Orewa. The cobbler tut tutted a little bit, and told me he would 'see what he could do'. My hopes plummeted. A week later I came back and was stoked to see a fully operational pair of shoes, heels n all. He had to do full on surgery apparently so it did set me back $30 (nearly another for whole pair) but I was pleased. He is a cobbler of the 'old school', and does a great job. Just a week ago I took in my grandson's much loved Air Jordan basketball boots, since he is pretty hard on his shoes and the soles were almost worn through. The repair was completed to a high standard within a week, including applying a quality leather treatment to the uppers. The total cost was only $85, about 1/3rd of the price of buying a new pair. By the time I discovered this place, my favourite pair of heels was on its last legs! Dr. Shoe managed to re-balance my worn heels and breathe new life into them! He also re-soled my boots and did a fine number on capping a pair of stilettos for me. His work isn't cheap but I'm a big fan of any man who can rescue a damsel's shoes in distress! That's right lads, most modern women don't need rescuing in the traditional sense! Hell, some of us can even change a flat tyre in stilettos but we still need a Knight in Shining Armour to rescue our poor soles!

Was very nervous and worried as I entered the shop to collect my shoes. But it turned out that was absolutely unnecessary! They did a brilliant job! I got sole protectors for my new pair of boots and snakeskin sandals and they kept the original shoe soles all intact. The guy told me that they use sand papers instead of machines. As someone with a lot of suede shoes, this is a huge bonus and definitely makes me trust Dr. Shoe and its staff.
