Dr. Jay's Ladies surpassed my expectations. I know, I know. You're probably asking, "Who still rocks urban clothes in the new millennium?" I personally stopped wearing BABY PHAT, PHAT FARM, FUBU, ECKO RED, PEPE and all that crap when I was like in middle school. These brands did not survive long because the concept of style and fashion has changed dramatically since the 90s- and thankfully so! Dr. Jays is aware of this change and has adjusted its inventory over the years. KUDOS! I wonder if Jimmy Jazz has switched it up too? Anyway, I came in here just for the hell of it a couple of weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised. I don't shop for brand name clothing, I buy what flatters and compliments my body, is well designed and executed, stylish and within my budget. I wasn't looking for anything in particular but I was excited to see jeans in so many different colors- right on trend! They also have some cute tops too but they are poorly made. I wouldn't waste my money on them. They'd be rags after 3 wash cycles. I purchased a pair of dark washed denim/leggings. Super cute and fit perfectly. I also purchased three pairs of leggings @ $15 a piece - the same skinny leggings sold at American Apparel @ lie $40 a piece. I bought black, navy blue, and bright royal blue. I will definitely be back for more colors and they work in any season! I don't shop there for anything else except for jeans and leggings. For well made tops I go to Uniqlo, Zara, H&M or Gap. read more

Please do not go shopping in downtown BK and expect bubbly or even helpful customer service at the register. CONS: Chick at the register, no matter who the chick is, ALWAYS has an attitude. I say this because I've been in this store dozens of times and its never the same girl, but the attitude is always the same. Never have the shoe I want in the size that I want. You better have like two or three different back up choices. You really have to dig in the clothing section to find good items, which I hate doing. PROS: They do have some hot shoes when you can find what you want. The guy workers are always helpful, however I am cute and I have a big booty, so I don't know how that will work out for you. read more

This place isnt all that bad. Every paycheck i take a couple trips to the store and always leave satisfied. I love that they have an extensive selection of E.L.F. cosmetics. I always stock up on the basics, racer back tees, spaghetti strap tops, leggings etc. Basic tops are about $4-$5...so i buy one in each color lol. I frequent the store so i dnt really need assistance from the workers (there doesnt seem to be that many anyway, especially on the lower level) Love their shoe selection, their heels & wedges for this season have been calling my name! i dont come to this store for customer service...i come for their prices! the price tags on everything are decent. I bought me a nice ecko red 2 piece bathing suit for $20... yellow baby phat sun dress $20 detailed leggings (not the plain black ones, one pair has rhinestones, the other has fishnet detailing down the side) $7.99 a piece cant beat that if youre going shopping and know exactly what you want...go here. The clothes are cute but the fitting rooms are disgusting. The mirrors were on the OUTSIDE of the room, no seats, hooks that were hanging on for dear life, chewed gum on the walls, the walls look like they were about to cave in....god bless this business. read more

Urban clothing + downtown Brooklyn=....okay, I know what to expect here. The clothing selection is moderate, which is more than I can say about the customer service. Honestly, a trip here one of the worst retail experiences I have ever had. Even as a hardened Brooklynite, I've never been treated with such disrespect and disregard as I was met with upon shopping at this establishment. The cashier staff was the rude, misleading and unhelpful. Once they get the money, they throw you a receipt along with your bagged item and yell "Next!" even though there's no one in line behind you. I purchased a pair of pants here and tried to exchange them for a larger size... I was put through hell and back, and told different things by different associates regarding their exchange/no return policy. I was told that the store down the block,"Brooklyn Ladies" which they own also, had the larger pant in stock, and would happily accept my "Dr. Jay's Ladies" store credit as an exchange. WRONG Upon trying to use my store credit to purchase these pants 10 minutes later from "Brooklyn Ladies,"(a larger and ruder extension of "Dr Jay's Ladies,") of course they had no information about this, and said they didn't accept these credits, and could not call the other store from which I came. To make a long story short, I waited 20 minutes and was sent back and forth between the stores, up and down staircases before anyone acknowledged that I was being misinformed by the other party. I was talked down to by grinning and unprofessional staff whom I could barely hear over the blasting reggae music. This place is terrible. I know the vast selection of cheap "urban" attire may be luring, especially on a bargain hunting stroll down Fulton street.. but save yourself a series of unpleasant encounters and steer clear of "Dr. Jay's Ladies" and "Brooklyn Ladies." read more

Dr. Jay Ladies is the Forever 21 for women who have Hip Hop running through their veins. This store is for teens, 20 somethings and us women in our 30's who still call our lovers "Boo" and "Bae." I shop here when I want to look cute for a barbecue in the hood or I have a hot first date with a youngun and I want to show him I still got it. No major labels here, this is video vixen gear. Animal print purses, spike heels, too tight logo tees and acid wash denims for fat bottomed girls with tiny waistlines are what you'll find here. Even the window mannequins are built like a hardcore rap star's dream and dressed like they're waiting for a tour bus to come and scoop 'em up. I bought a gang of e.l.f. brand make up brushes here today and they were only a dollar each. Dr. Jay Ladies sells everything from winter coats to bikinis in the summertime. Be warned, the merchandise here isn't built to last (except for the jeans). This spot is strictly for women who want to look urban/trendy on the cheap. read more

I would give dr jays 5 stars because of the selection of dope clothing and sneakers. But the employees and managers made my shopping experience no fun. I'm a girl from Long Island who just moved to Brooklyn. New to the area but not new to this city, I understand that you have to crack down when it comes to loss prevention. But I have never felt so uncomfortable in a store. I was followed, yelled at when entering a dressing room that was unmanned while I clearly followed the ridiculous rule of only being allowed to bring 2 items into the dressing room at a time (it's their policy I understand that but it's just kind of extreme.) took two items in and left two items in sight In case an employee asked, little to no privacy the employee was practically staring into the dressing room while I was getting undressed. I feel like if theft is such an issue you guys should hire security like beauty supply stores do. Also your store is clearly understaffed the fact that I wanted 20 minutes to pay for two items and I've only seen 1 employee at the register and one yelling at people going into the dressing rooms. Is kind of insane to me. I really want to come back, I've been shopping at dr jays since I was a teenager. I really love this place and I just want to feel good about spending my money here. read more

This place is amazing. It brought me back to my youth where Contempo Casuals ruled my club days, The people in the shoe department could not be nicer or more patient as most of the sizes are kind of off. Especially the tall girl with the auburn hair. Will definitely be back. read more
