The owner of this business, Matt Alba, is amazing! He's very knowledgeable and thorough when explaining all the different options to fix your unit. I purchased a Cooper & Hunter 5-zone minisplit (ductless) system 11 months ago and had it installed by a guy who's now MIA. Fast forward 8 mos after install and the units aren't working right. My guy's phone number was disconnected but I got through to him by email and he came and allegedly fixed it. 3 mos later it's again not working right and my guy is again MIA and this time I can't reach him at all. Then comes the knight in shining armor... da, da, da, da... Matt/Dr. Ductless! I found him through Yelp. I reached out and he was a plethora of knowledge and eager to save the day, but, of course, since he didn't install my unit, this was going to be a big expense for something that should've been fixed under my labor warranty by the guy that installed it. But since my guy was MIA again, time to turn to the knight for assistance... Matt/Dr Ductless. Matt not only explained all the different possibilities to trouble shoot my system and all costs associated with each step but he went above and beyond and contacted my manufacturer of the units (Cooper & Hunter) to get feedback on what needed to be done. He also sketched out and measured the length from the compressor to each unit to calculate the total linear feet being used by the compressor and then spoke with the manufacturer to find out if I had too many linear feet which could be burdening the compressor. That wasn't the case but we did find out that one of the lines was too short so it needed to be replaced and coiled so the total minimum feet could be accomplished. He also saw that I had a lot of build up on the side vents of the compressor which he determined was because my laundry vent line was venting out of the house just a few feet away and the compressor was sucking the lint in and causing that build up (something no one else ever pointed out... and I did have one other guy come out to check the system and he didn't catch that either). I had to have my laundry lint line rerouted into the basement crawl space to resolve this issue (my contractor handled that). So, after much delimma over the cost (Matt was more expensive than the other guy I called out but you know the old adage, "you get what you pay for") and considering the first time around I picked the guy who was the CHEAPEST, I decided this time it was important to pick the guy who was the WISEST and that was Matt/Dr Ductless! His guys came out a few days ago and the 2 of them worked on my unit almost 5 hours. They found FOUR LEAKS where the units connected to the compressor (the same area my original installer who had come out 3 mos prior allegedly had "fixed"). Ends up my guy had tried a sealant glue on the copper lines instead of cutting, refluting and rewelding, like Matt's guys did. They also cleaned the vents on the side of the compressor thoroughly so no more caked up lint, and they replaced the short line with the new required 15 foot line. And lastly was the most important mission, the refrigerant. My guy had simply added more refrigerant the last time he came out. But, I found out that the manufacturer requires ALL refrigerant is VACCUUMED completely out of the system before replacing with new refrigerant, which required 11 lbs of refrigerant (and that stuff isn't cheap which is why the other guys only wanted to add more, not replace it). Of course Matt had his guys vacuum out all the old refrigerant and then replace it with 11 lbs of the new refrigerant (think of it like a car and the oil in your car, when you go for an oil change they don't just add more oil, they replace all the oil). So, obviously this was a very long story, but, the good news is, it seems to be DONE RIGHT this time! If you want YOUR JOB DONE RIGHT, don't hesitate to call the knight in shining armor, Matt/Dr. Ductless!!! My system now runs like a dream! Super quiet and ultra efficient! We hit 96 degrees only 2 days after they fixed it and my rooms now cool down in only a matter of a FEW MINUTES! Pics show before and after of the compressor being cleaned and refrigerant being readied. I didn't get any pics of the leaking lines but even I could tell they were leaking cuz they were covered in grease. IMHO, Dr. Ductless rocks!!! read more

Extremely Disappointing Experience -- Unprofessional Service and a Worse Problem Than Before I had an absolutely terrible experience with Dr. Ductless, and I would strongly caution anyone considering hiring this company. I called Dr. Ductless because my Daikin ductless ceiling unit was having problems with its wall controller and condensation drainage. The controller had been working intermittently, and the unit was still blowing cold air even when the controller wouldn't turn on. The technician identified an issue with the condensation drain line and the emergency shut off -- the emergency shut off was full of water from the line not draining and it was turning off the control panel. He proceeded to CUT the line to blow water out. He then claimed that insulation in my attic was preventing the line from draining properly, but refused to move or work around the insulation to investigate further. Instead, he told me I needed to address the insulation before he could determine what was actually wrong. Here's where the experience became completely unacceptable. After he worked on the drain line and emergency shut off, water began leaking THROUGH MY CEILING. This was NOT happening before his visit. When I pointed out the new leak, rather than taking responsibility or investigating why the situation had worsened, he insisted that it had already been leaking before he touched anything. While there might have been a small leak (I really don't know) it was not coming through the ceiling until he worked on it. What might have been a drop here and there was now a river destroying my ceiling. He claimed the water was coming from the emergency safety shutoff, said he had reconnected the drain line, and suggested that the condensate pump might be broken. But he couldn't confirm the cause. His proposed solution? Come back another day for a repair that he said could cost $900- $2,000, without providing a definitive diagnosis. He said he'd have to replace the drain line to see if that fixed the problem and if it didn't he would replace a pump and see if that fixed it. But he didn't really know if either of those things would fix it and suggested I try moving the insulation myself first. Meanwhile water was leaking through the ceiling. I asked him to fix the leak and he said it would stop if I turned off the unit. I pointed out the controller was not working and I have no way to turn it off. He offered no additional solutions, charged me $189 (the price I agreed to when I scheduled the visit) and left. So, to summarize: I paid for a professional to diagnose a problem, was told he couldn't properly investigate it because of attic insulation, watched the situation become significantly worse after he worked on the system, and was then presented with the possibility of a $2,000 repair without a clear explanation of what had actually failed. What I found most disturbing wasn't just the lack of a clear diagnosis. It was the dismissive response when I pointed out that water was now leaking through my ceiling. I expected a professional technician to take that concern seriously, investigate the source, and make sure the system was left in a safe condition. Instead, I was left with a malfunctioning air conditioner, a blank wall controller, water leaking into my ceiling, and no resolution. I called a handyman I've used before and he came to my house the next morning, propped up the condensation drainage pipe (without touching the insulation) and the leak stopped, the pipe began flowing properly, and the control panel started working. Why the doctor ductless technician couldn't do that is beyond me. It took 15 minutes. I have completely lost confidence in Dr. Ductless and will not be using this company again. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend them. If you value accountability, thorough troubleshooting, and technicians who take your concerns seriously, I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere. read more

Excellent from start to finish. Owner Matthew Alba is incredibly knowledgeable about ductless systems, and in this case a Mitsubishi multi-zone system that were installed in a two level townhouse. I researched quite a bit before committing to Dr. Ductless and I would use again without hesitation. The entire install crew of technicians were knowledgeable and thoughtful and the communication from everyone in this company were proactive, including follow up. read more

They have their so-called free quote, but it's not true. I filled in my information and their customer service called me and scheduled an engineer to come by and give me a quote. But the engineer guy called me and said "do you understand that if you are not using us as installers, I'm not going to come by and give you free quote and free information. I just want to make sure that you understand the situation." OMG. Their attitude made me uncomfortable immediately. Basically they were threatening me like "do you understand the situation?" Come on, yes I understand I don't want to work this guy. I'm astonished coz I just want him to come by and evaluate the house, choose models to install, and I'm ready to pay. I don't have the knowledge of HVAC, but that doesn't mean I don't have choice to pick my business. If they don't bother to come by to evaluate the house, I don't bother to do business with these guys for sure. read more

This is the second time that I used Matt and his team for a project. The crew really wanted to make sure that I was happy with the job and were really pleasant to have at my home. They arrived on time , kept the job site clean throughout the day and cleaned up after themselves. I highly recommend Dr Ductless for all your HVAC needs as Matt's team continues to provide quality work. read more

I called to get a quote with Dr. Ductless and met with Laura, who works for their sister/subsidiary company Southland Heating. She really did not listen to a single thing that I was saying and just completely steamrolled over me with pronouncements like "I've been doing this for X number of years, and I've never heard of that." What I really disliked was that I specifically explained that I did not want an expensive 5+ zone installation, but she just would not even consider quoting me on any other type of install. That was the first red flag. Then she hemmed and hawed when I asked about having the installation meet code. A project like an AC install needs to permitted through the city in order to qualify for energy efficiency rebates from LADWP. She explained that this would require witnessing tests from the city and that most installations won't meet the city's strict requirements (both of these pronouncements proved false when the A/C installation I eventually got was easily permitted through building and safety). The third and final flag was the cost. I look up the retail price for the units from the quote online. The markup was very high and the labor and supply costs were considerable as well. I ended up getting the installation that wanted from a small company for literally 25% of the price I was quoted by Dr. Ductless. I think Dr. Ductless is one of the big players locally in the mini split installation arena, but much of the costs you end up paying is for overhead and other things, like overly aggressive sales people. You're better off going with a small, local business that won't charge you an arm and a leg and can actually take the time to listen to what you are asking for. read more

Matt wore shoe covers when he came to my house for an estimate. Out of the six people who came to give an estimate, Matt was the only one who did so and he did it unsolicitedly. On the day of installation, prior to the start of the actual project, Matt and his foreman did the same thing. It's little things like that that make a company stand out from the rest and makes the company that more professional and considerate. Matt and his team were great. Reasonable costs, professional from beginning to end, communicative, considerate, clean, efficient, friendly, etc -- it was truly a pleasure working with Matt. Thanks for everything! read more

This is the second time using Mr. Ductless. We had 2 split unit AC/ Heating systems installed in our apartments. The owner David Molina was very friendly & helpful with selecting the right unit for the places. The prices were very competitive. They finished on time and always clean up. Will definitely use them again. read more

I've heard of contractors just being late for appointments but this is the first time a company has been so incompetent as to just completely lose an appointment and not really even know why. Must be as bad a company as I have ever dealt with. Dr. Ductless lost my appointment and when I called at the end of the appointment window to find out what was going on they told me they didnt know but only that I had somehow "fallen through the cracks" because the person I had made the appointment with never passed the information along or something. They were unable to send anyone until the following week (at which point I canceled and got someone else of course). read more

Great Job, but I must say they were not on time and did not have the right equipment on arrival, I took half day of work for nothing. They only lost one star with me because they did showed up the next day - Saturday and did a really good job, also threw me an extra freebie as an apology. read more

I'm so impressed with the service I received from the time I contacted the office to the time the technician got to my house. No service charges, the rate I was quoted is the price I paid. The staff researched the exact unit I wanted, and was able to get the warranty I was looking for. They installed it the very same day, after everything I requested and the price was unbeatable. Thank you to the team at Dr Ductless and technician for the flawless work. read more

The people from Dr Ductless installed a new HVAC system in our home last month. It is working great. They were very professional, courteous, clean and expert at what they do. We were very impressed with them. They worked quickly and efficiently, and made sure not to cause any damage to our home. The crew cleaned up when they were done to the extent that nobody could tell that they had been working in the house all day. Matt Alba, an owner of the company, reviewed the work order with us before they started and everything he told us would be done was done. We are very satisfied with the work. The state inspector came in as required a couple of weeks later to certify that the installation was safe and up to code. He told us everything is perfect and done correctly. He also said that his department rarely, if ever, finds problems with work done by Matt's company. read more

We were recommended to Southland Heating and Cooling's company- Dr. Ductless - because they did work for our neighbor. They were quick to reply and gave us a comparable quote to other companies, though they ended up being slightly higher than the company we ended up having to go with after Dr. Ductless canceled their job on us. Prior to our job date, I was frequently in touch with Carlos to make sure we were good with our permit requirements, and Carlos insisted we were fine, even when I offered to push back the job, he insisted the original job date would be fine. Then comes install day for our mini split system, and Carlos and his team unloaded everything, prepped our home for the install, and next thing I know, Carlos tells me he has to cancel the job because he just found out they weren't able to get the permits. I was very upset and confused how this happened since I repeatedly checked in with him because he had told me permits could take some time even though he said he didn't need more time. Carlos advised us to go to the city ourselves to deal with the permit despite it being part of the original quote that his company would manage the permits. So we went to the city anyway and learned that nothing had been signed off at all on the permit from Dr. Ductless and they didn't even have a pending permit in their system. In the end, we just had to cancel the whole job because I felt I couldn't trust Carlos' word at that point. The company was quick to reply to our concerns and gave us a prompt refund of our deposit, which we appreciated. I just wish everything had been openly communicated ahead of time so that we didn't have to run into a dead end with the install with his company. read more

I wanted to use Dr. Ductless because they are a certified Mitsubishi technician. I've left two messages in 2 days and have not been contacted back for a quote, even though the receptionist said I would be called back within the next 5 minutes (upon my second discussion). read more

I have owned a fixer upper house for 14 years and have worked with dozens of contractors in those years and can say that Dr. Ductless stands out among the best. I am a very particular customer - my husband and I do a lot of research before we do anything. I ask a lot of questions and am adamant that every detail be in my written contract. It's a big red flag to me if a contractor dismisses any of my questions or doesn't want to put all of the details in writing. Matt gets a 10/10 from me for these two things. I also found during the pre-work process that Matt was very "dialed in" meaning he knows the industry, the trends, the helpful people and perhaps best of all he knows about rebate programs! He informed us of an upcoming rebate program from SoCal Edison that was not yet open. I appreciated that he knew this and helped us set the job up so that we were eligible. We did get the rebate and it was really worth it! We are extremely happy with our system. Matt took a lot of time with us to help us make each decision so that the system functions exactly was we wanted to. The actual work was about as painless as it could have been. The crew is really good at working together and getting things done fast. Along with having our ductless mini-split installed, we were also having our attic cleaned and re-insulated by another company Pink Your Home. The two crews coordinated their schedules with no effort from me. I was kept in the loop at every progress point along the way. The Dr. Ductless crew had really good attention to detail; one example of this you can see in the photo of my outdoor unit. There is a white column up the wall that hides wires. There were a lot of wires and instead of doing two columns they took an extra step and did one column that is thicker front to back so all the wires could fit. One final point - a lot of my research on ductless and AC in general suggests that you consider the relationship with your installer very carefully. Getting AC sized and placed correctly is not easy and you will need to work carefully with your installer to make sure you get something you are happy with. From our initial consultation, I was impressed with Matt's focus on relationships, not only with us as the client but with people in the industry (brand reps, city permit departments, other professionals, etc.) read more

I finally turned on the A/C on my minisplit Fujitsu the last couple of days. Still AMAZING! It's so quiet, and is perfect since it's cooling the room where I do my work in. At times, I feel like it's too efficient, and I have to turn the temperature up 5 degrees more than my central A/C unit. I would recommend this system for anyone looking to climate control their home office that doesn't get the benefit of central A/C, or if you're just looking for a quiet system. I'm more amazed by how quickly it can get my 150 square foot room to temperature within minutes with very little noise. read more

I don't throw away 5 stars easily. We needed a modern wall unit (HVAC I think they call a mini split... why do they call it that? Heck if i know) for a guest house. Matt came out to give the estimate. He worked with me on price. Scheduling the install was easy. The day of, the guys worked fast and answered all my questions. That said, i don't think this is a cheap service but i got a few bids and they were all the same ballpark. If only i could learn to install myself... ha ha. I have to give it up to them... they did what they said and did it right. read more

Thank you so much Dr. Ductless for creating a cool, comfortable environment in my home! The customer service was beyond excellent! I was hesitant to install a ductless system in our condo. However I'm glad I ended up having Southland Heating and Air Conditioning install one. They installed it in one day, the visible conduit is hardly noticeable and blends in well with the wall, and the system is so much cooler and quieter than the portable air conditioners that we use to rely on. Matt and Rudy treated us really well and if I ever have any future air conditioner needs I'm sure to call them! read more

In February 2021, we hired Dr. Ductless (aka Southland Heating and Air) to install a 3 ton AC condenser, and incorporate it into our already existing central heating system. Our contact from start to finish was Matt, and he was great. Easy to communicate with, and answered our endless number of questions along the way. The office helped us through the permit process, and we are happy with our new system after using it this summer. Would recommend! read more

UPDATE: Matt Walker contacted me almost immediately with profound apologies. He owned up to having misplaced my request. I give him a lot of credit for being so honest. Beyond that, he kindly came to my home and advised me on some critical positioning of the unit I intend to install without obligation! Summing up: I appreciate Matt's honesty and his immediate willingness to assist me even though I may not award the job to his company based upon price. A class act. Rare and appreciated! read more

I called to schedule the LADWP thermostat replacement and system optimization service. Sev showed up exactly on time. He was very polite, explained what he was going to do, asked me a few questions and off he was. My HVAC system wasn't working well and would shut off at times of extreme heat. Sev found a missing wire, spent over an hour on the roof working in 100 degree weather. 2 hours later I had a brand new Nest thermostat and a fully working and optimized system. This was by far the best AC service I've ever received. I should also mention that I have 3 dogs and 2 cats, and Sev was very gentle with all of them!!! I usually have to put my animals away when someone is working on the house. So I wanted to mention this for those of you that have pets. I think I found my go to AC and heating company!!!! I was very impressed with Dr. Ductless and the service they provided. I'll be honest -- I was skeptical when they told me they could install a 4-zone mini-split in one day when competitors were telling me they needed 3-5 days to complete the work. But they did a great job and the team only spent about 7 hours at my house. Not only does the system work great, but the team took extra care to make sure the exterior looked aesthetically pleasing despite the zones being spread across the house. I also noticed after they left, they helped clear out some trash from my recent move without even being asked. Matt & Carlos were very helpful in getting the job set up, and Rudy the job foreman was great -- he took the time to listen to my concerns, and was very patient when I changed my mind a few times. I'm very happy with the job they did and the new system keeps my house nice and warm. read more

Great guy with realistic estimates! It was a bit more than we budgeted for the project but I would encourage you to get an estimate from him

After doing Research on replacing my HVAC system Dr. Ductless Heating and Cooling came in highly recommended by one of my good friends. My first initial contact was with Ana from the office, she helped me with setting up the initial consultation with the comfort adviser, Matt. I was provided with a one hour window of arrival and Matt showed up right on time and gave me a call 30 minutes prior to arrival! Can you say impressive? Matt was very professional and explained what needed to be done and left me with the confidence I needed to commit to this investment. He was able to put me on the schedule 3days after we signed the contract. The day before the installation I received a reminder call with all the information that I needed. The installation crew arrived at 8:30 am and began setting up. Matt showed up on the day of the installation and opened up the job , he introduced the foreman and his crew and they informed me exactly how the day was going to play out. The Install crew took great pride in their work and worked cohesively. At the end of the installation, the install crew cleaned up very nicely. The fore man then came and did a walk through of the system and explained how everything worked and patiently answered all of my questions. The day after the installation I received a call from Ana who called to follow up on the installation to make sure that I was happy with the installation and asked if I had any questions. I never thought I could be so in love with a heating and air company as I am with Dr. Ductless Heating and Cooling. Thank you Dr. Ductless! read more
