I have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Dental! Dr. Patel and the staff have helped me with this journey! I am a person who is naturally scared of the dentist! I have had some trauma and bad experiences in the past. I explained to Dr. Patel my situation and from the very beginning he showed me empathy! He helped me through my fears! That's right--woohoo for the dentist! I enjoyed my cleaning and x-rays so much I don't even know where to start. First of all, this is a dentist making an effort to provide quality care to a very diverse neighborhood with receptionists, dental hygienists and dentists that speak a host of different languages. Everyone was super-friendly and laid back, while still being consummate professionals. I spent the most time with the hygienist Lana, with whom I spoke at length about where to get good highlights and Lady Gaga, all while she took my x-rays. Dr. Chen came in and did the cleaning and was friendly and fast. It was all surprisingly quick, easy and painless. Definitely great for anyone in the neighborhood and beyond! read more

They never replied to the appointment request that I submitted 48 hours ago via the form on the website. I chose this dental facility simply because of its proximity to my home. I didn't reside in this neighborhood at the time of my most recent dental cleaning and exam, and thus haven't been a patient here yet. It now seems unlikely that I will be. It's tough to determine how many stars to award Allston Family Dental: while the dentistry is fantastic -- Dr. Chen is great -- expect to wait a very long time past your scheduled appointment with no update whatsoever. I've scheduled appointments and walked out of there multiple times after waiting 30 minutes, 40 minutes, an hour and 15 minutes. They usually provide a courtesy call the day before an appointment, but even if they're running unforgivably behind, no one will bother to update you. I mean, c'mon, if my appointment is scheduled for 7:00pm and you're running 90 minutes late, give me a call so I can reschedule. That said, I still go there, but I try to get my appointment for the minute they open, when they almost always see me on time. read more

Lost a filling while traveling. Explained that I don't live in the area and would only be coming one time to get the tooth refilled. Appointment was at 10 am. At 10:35 Another new patient who came in after me was called. I had an important meeting at noon, so I questioned why someone was called before me when I was waiting longer. They assured me that I would be called soon. When I was called in and explained what I needed, I was informed that they had scheduled me for only a cleaning since I was a new patient. What??? I chose this this dentist based on the recent reviews and a coworker's recommendation and was horrified! The place was unclean, the receptionist was rude and extremely unprofessional AND I had to wait 40 minutes beyone my appointment time with no explanation. The dentist seemed very knowledgable and professional, but I will never even think of coming back based on the way I was treated. On the plus side, you won't have any trouble getting a last minute appointment. They have plenty open. read more

Well it's hard to give any dentist 5 stars but I will. I've gone to "fancy" dentists where I've sat in the chair for 2 hours while the hygienists uses her instruments of torture to remove plaque from my teeth and got charged $200 for it.. yes, I did leave crying. Then I got new health insurance that included dental, I was a little disappointed to find that I could no longer go to the "fancy" dentist. I searched their list of approved shops and found Allston Family Dental. Knowing nothing about it, I booked my appointment. I showed up and though oh, boy here we go, this is going to be sketchy. Packed in between Futon stores and the lot on Harvard Ave, the place is fantastic! It's so clean and hygienic and the hygienists are SO nice and friendly and gentle. I've seen 2 different dentists there (and the great Dr. Chen 2-3 times) and they were both fantastic and they are Harvard educated! The equipment is top of the line... no more 2 hour torture sessions. Their machines do it all in a quick visit. I'm not saying I like the dentist now but it's not the torture it used to be. I actually had a similar experience to the one mentioned by M.J. I am bit older 32 and never had a cavity before. Suddenly, I came to my 6 month visit and the Dentist said I had a cavity. I was surprised and indeed looked for a second opinion. Then, I came back to the place 2 months after I lied say that I had seen a Dr. and he was surprised by the fact that my previous dentist said I had a cavity. Indeed, I was seen by another Dr., which I think is Dr. Chen. He was actually very nice but mentioned that the dentist that saw me before was not longer with the practice. He apologized for the bad diagnostic and promised that would not happen again. I imaging today that how many people ended up paying to fill their cavities without needing it. I do not recommend this place for regular cleaning because, first, the cleaning is not done by a hygienist but by the Dentist that is seeing more than 10 patients in an hour I guess and will not spend more than 6 minutes doing the cleaning. For this reason, I was forced to move to another dental practice were the cleaning can be done by hygienist. However, when calling to get the x rays mail to the new practice they are charging me $25 dollars for it, which I deny myself to pay since they were the ones that forced me to look for another place to their lack of service, quality and multiple mistakes. In addition, the day of my last visit, they ended up switching my clinical history, which had a patient that had other dental needs that were far more different from mine. Thanks god I am not allergic to latex or any other thing. Do not come to this place. It is terrible. read more

I've been here a few times and they are very accommodating and able to fit you in fairly quick if needed. I had an infected filling which needed a root canal and was referred to Dr Peskin who was also very good and easy to schedule. The only thing that may be confusing to me, or maybe I don't know enough about it, but they advertise "flexible payment plans" which has never been mentioned to me. My girlfriend was told flat out we don't do payment plans. I'm middle class and have a pretty good job but when you are setting up for a crown after a root canal, over $500 AFTER insurance is tough. Overall, is recommend them as they do a great job at most dental work. Thanks! read more

I just went in for a routine cleaning. The staff was extremely nice and made making the appointment, checking in and getting seen a great experience. I had to wait around 15-20 after my appointment time due to an unseen circumstance with another patient, but the staff kept me informed regularly of my wait time status and was very apologetic. Dr. Patel is extremely knowledge and does a great job at explaining to you your dental situation and making sure you are as comfortable as possible. read more

These folks are awesome! The whole staff is very friendly, and Dr. Patel has done a great job with everything ranging from fixing a chipped tooth to setting me up with a nighttime mouth guard. I live right down the street from this place. I always walk by it and finally decided to try it out. My appointment was at 4pm and I was seen at 4:30. The front desk lady was extremely friendly, helpful and very welcoming. The dental assistant was SO nice and we talked like we were friends. She was very gentle during my flossing and so kind with her advice. Dr. Chan was very professional and at the same time laid back. He did not lecture me or make me feel guilty about anything. He was very informative and helpful. I have told everyone I know about my experience and referred them to Dr. Dental. Thank you so much for a wonderful experince. I will be back. read more

Dr chen and the staff are aw some but the experience i had with the front disk employee was so unprofessional and frustrating i walked in and made an appointment almost a week in advance so i show up fro my appointment and the same person i made it with at the front disk tells me there was no appointment made and she cant find it and she asks me who i spoke to before like u must be kidding me its either she dosent . know what she is doing or she scheduled someone else and by the way she had no name tag but iam sure she wasn't Rafaela who i been scheduling my appointments with for over a year. read more

Friendliest staff I have dealt with at a dentist office. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Dental assistant was very outgoing and friendly as well and made me feel completely relaxed for my cleaning. My dentist, Dr Chen, was just as equally outgoing, friendly, and jovial as the rest of the staff and did a great job going over my cleaning and my X-ray results. I was a little hesitant to step in and make an appt as it looks a bit sketchy from the outside. I was so wrong about my initial impression! it's nice inside, I've never had an issue booking an appt- great hours including Saturday's 9-3 and weekday 8-8pm which works if you have a 9-5 job, the rooms are clean and the staff are helpful. I have been seeing dr Niraja Patel for 3 or 4 years now. She is an amazing doctor, always taking the time to explain every single procedure she does and always going through all the options to get the best results. For a person that has always fear dentists, I can say that she will make all appointments painless and with close to 0 discomfort. She even managed to get my husband, a person who always hated going to the doctor, see her regularly for cleanings and any touch up needed. If you need a great doctor, that will tell you and explain all your options and help you choose what is best for you and make the dentist appointment as comfortable as possible, you should not hesitate and see her! read more

I had a root canal here by Dr. Patel in the fall of 2013. Just went to an endodontist today (2018) to get an x-ray after having an abscess near the tooth with a root canal and they found that all of the infection had not been cleared during the original root canal that Dr. Patel performed. I now have the option to get another root canal (which has a 50% chance of success) or have the tooth extracted. Not pleased to have to be spending thousands more to fix this issue. I would not recommend going here for root canal treatment. read more

My boyfriend just went in with a tooth ache requiring an extraction. I was told the price would be 25 for an x-ray and $160 for a non surgical extraction. He then was told at the end that is bill was $285 because he required a single stitch which classified it as surgical. When asked for clarification neither the office manager or the actual doctor could clarify exactly what that additional expense of $75 dollars was covering. I'm sorry but I do not believe a single stitch costs $75. I also would not put it past this place to put a stitch where a stitch was not necessary so they can gain the additional "surgical fee". Outrageous and a horrible excuse for a dentist office. I highly encourage you to take your business elsewhere unless you want to be ripped off and have to deal with rude and uninformed individuals. read more

I started coming here when I was on MassHealth (since they were the most affordable), and now that i have a new job and private insurance... I still come here! Dr. Patel is great, never had any issues with routine cleanings or cavity fillings. The staff is very pleasant as well and the appointments occur right on time. I can sneak in appointments at 8AM which is huge for me - it's a great choice for your wallet and your teeth. read more

This is my 4th visit to Dr Dental. I'm having a lot of work done on my teeth and for the first time in 37 years I'm not petrified of the dentist. Silda the office manager is so friendly and makes you feel very welcomed. She answered all the questions I had. I swear she has the patients of a saint. Dr.Patel is the best dentist I have ever had. She is so gentle it's amazing that when she gives u the novacain you barely feel the needle!! She is such a sweet women. Lately the have been very busy and short staffed so they have a few dental assistants from other Dr.dental offices. Even with them working short staffed I didn't have to wait within 2 mins of getting there they were already for me!! Nait was the dental assistant helping Dr. Patel and he was excellent!! Silda,Kathleen,Renada and of course Dr. Patel are all superb assists to this company!!! I tell everybody and anybody that if they need a dentist definitely go to Dr.Dental!! I hate going to the dentist SO MUCH and this fear/avoidance plus no dental insurance meant I didn't go for five years. However when I went to visit Dr. Patel she was truly amazing. I had no issues with wait time unlike some folks here, and the receptionist was super helpful with my new insurance, but Dr. Patel really takes the cake! There was no condescending looks and drawn out procedures just a lot of kind support. She was also very sensitive to my obvious anxiety about novocaine and cavities and got everything done in a timely and pain free manner. I picked this office for my cleaning mostly because it was so close to my bus stop, but couldn't have been happier! The office staff was friendly and competent, and Dr. Patel was awesome. The last few times I've been to see a dentist they've tried to sell me on unnecessary cosmetic procedures, but that didn't happen here. Dr. Patel is really nice and great at what she does. Incredibly friendly and efficient office staff. Very accommodating with appointments and changes. Clean, calm office and almost always on schedule. Plus, I've had to get some extra work done and I've found it always to be much more affordable than expected. One of the great things they do is provide an accurate estimate on how much work might cost beforehand. They also return calls! Pretty impressive. Dental staff are personable, efficient, and good at explaining what they are doing and what's going on with your dental health, specially dr Chen.They give good advice and options but no pressure to get tons of extra work done, which can happen at some dental offices. lol... they obviously read my review. you know how i know? they never got back to me about setting up another appointment. With today's rough economy anyone would try hard to keep new patients. So either they have horrible follow-up or gave up on me. awesome. they lose either way. I happen to have insurance as well... and they submitted $287 for a basic bite wings and cleaning. they milked $190ish from my service. thats ALOT. i thought i saw one of those new patient specials for cheaper. seriously, there are so many other places you should go. the end. read more
