In the 6 years prior to starting at this practice, I had zero cavities. Then I switched to this practice and was immediately diagnosed with a cavity. I naively thought they had caught something my prior dentist had missed. I was diagnosed with at least one cavity on nearly every subsequent visit. This went on for 6 years, with Mr believing I was getting excellent thorough care. It has now been 10 years since I left this practice. How many cavities in that time? Zero. I didn't make some big change to my dental hygiene. In fact, i missed almost 2 years of cleanings with the pandemic. Still, I have not had a cavity since getting away from this place. But, what I do have now is every one of the fillings I received from Dr Budd and Dr Smith with a "watch" on them by my current dentist. I'm sure people have had pleasant experiences at the office, it's very nice. But perhaps some are like me and don't realize the techniques they use are aggressive and highly likely unnecessary. My two front teeth are chipped and I have been getting composite work completed for years by two different trusted dentists. After moving and doing a lot of research on which dentist provides quality cosmetic work in Boston I booked with CDG. During the initial appointment I was offered crowns, veneers, or composite, and decided to go with composite for the time due to finances. The dentist assured me they could perform composite (I had asked directly because the dentists seemed nervous during the consult). The result of the initial composite work is pictured below and I was extremely unhappy with the uneven and boxy work. You can clearly see one tooth is much bigger than the other and both two front teeth look boxy. The dentist trimmed the tooth down slightly before encouraging me to leave and "call back if I am still unhappy" the next week. I called back and it took me months to get in to have a correction. The second dentist simply added on top of the old composite instead of replacing the whole thing, and the "correction" fell off within 3 months. In the past I have had dentists tell me adding "corrections" on top instead of replacing all of the composite is very weak and is more susceptible to chipping. Given that this work only lasted 3 months I would say that is accurate. I am very unhappy with the care I received here. I will add that the dentist I consulted with for veneers seemed very helpful and if you are looking to get veneer work done this office may be a good fit for you. However, if you are looking for bonding/composite work for chipped or broken teeth I would not go to CDG. In addition to the poor care I have had difficulties with billing. I was quoted that my insurance would cover 100% of the cost before treatment. My insurance changed after this procedure and CDG kept billing the wrong insurance, even though I called to clarify billing start and end dates several times. My insurance ended up only covering a portion of the treatment plan and CDG sent me a bill. When I called to ask why I wasn't quoted that insurance wouldn't cover hundreds of dollars of the procedure they didn't have any help to offer beyond payment plans. Especially for work that I continue to be unhappy with (and has already broken again) I will not be paying hundreds of dollars more than what I was quoted.

I came in with a tricky filling at a high-pressure site. The recommendation was a crown. I asked…read moreabout an alternative: a short fiber reinforced composite, a material class developed specifically for high-stress load-bearing restorations, with substantially better fracture resistance than conventional composites. It's not obscure. The dentist -- a new graduate -- didn't know what it was, and I ended up explaining it to her. I then asked whether the office could order it for my restoration so I could avoid a crown. I was told they'd look into it. Nobody got back to me. I called three separate times to follow up. The eventual answer was that they couldn't order it because it only comes in boxes of 30 tubes. That's not true -- you can buy a single tube from dental supply companies for roughly $173. When I offered to pay for it out of pocket, I was told they were confident in the materials they already use. That's a hard position to defend when none of those materials is a short fiber composite, and when the entire rationale I was given for the crown was the high occlusal force at that location. On top of all this, my insurance was billed incorrectly. The overall impression is a high-volume practice that isn't keeping current and isn't set up to have an actual conversation about treatment options. I've since moved my care elsewhere. If you value a dentist who stays up to date and practices shared decision-making, this isn't it.

The office sent me an email with a quote/estimate for a "night guard / retainer" for $133. After I came for two fittings of the night guard and retainer (because the first time the night guard and retainer were no where close to fitting my teeth), the front office said it would be $500+ for the night guard and retainer. This did not align with the quote. The office also stated that "they didn't know I was getting both a night guard and retainer so they only quoted me for one". I'm not sure how they didn't know I was getting both given that they had lab orders for both and I came in multiple times to get the devices. The office also did not submit a pretreatment request to my insurance. As a result, the office said they wouldn't be able to guarantee the cost. And now I am potentially financially responsible for the office's mistake. The worst part of my experience here was that the office did not own their mistakes - they did not submit the pretreatment request to the insurance nor did they send an accurate estimate when I asked. They never acknowledged that this was their mistake. The staff also blamed each other for the mistake instead of acting as one team. I will not be returning as a patient here due to this experience.
