Going to the dentist is super fun - said no one ever. Unfortunately, for me, going was almost a weekly occurrence growing up. Sugary snacks, poor brushing habits, and close to a decade of braces made my dentist the first phone number circled in our white pages. Fortunately, it's been several years since that phase of my life and I had learned the error of my ways. Still, it had been over a year since I had my last cleaning and I wanted somewhere closer to Brookline. I turned to Yelp and found Dr. Login. I asked my former roommate who is now actually a dentist if she went to any dentist around the area and she actually mentioned him so that sealed the deal for me. Walking in, the office felt similar to other dentist's office I have been in but definitely had a clean feel to it. I was a new patient and they forgave me for being a few minutes late and told me about complementary water and coffee while I wait (which I realize now is a little ironic). I would say the best part of this place was that they seem to try to make you feel as comfortable as possible with your visit both in the questions they ask on the form as well as during the cleaning. She checked every few minutes to see if I was alright. The whole process took about an hour for the cleaning and I would have to reschedule for an exam by Dr. Login which I believe is typically their procedure. It was one of the more pleasant experiences of the multitude of experiences I have had in a dentists office and everyone was super nice. The only thing is his schedule is so packed as well as with Jewish holidays in October, my exam with him is two months from now. Overall, pleasant experience and friendly staff!

Two crowns are always better than one! And some fillings! Let's just say I'll stay away from candy for a while... :)

I scheduled fillings specifically around insurance coverage, but when I arrived I was booked for a completely different procedure that my dentist had never explained to me. I then received appointment reminders for visits I never scheduled, and when I called they admitted it was a mistake. I was also told I owed a balance that I had already paid in full (my insurance reimburses me after the fact), and the office could not clearly explain why the charge appeared or why they told me I had already paid. I was then told that they forgot to submit my claim to my insurance. My hygienists were great, but I don't recommend this office if you have anxiety or don't have time to constantly correct scheduling/billing issues yourself.

Front office was kind, my first hygienist was nice. My dentist and hygienist were changed on me without notice, and neither of them introduced themselves to me (I still don't know what the dentist looks like or what his name is). Further, the new hygienist used a tool during a routine cleaning that broke off a piece of my tooth. He asked if "that crack [has] always been there", to which I replied "no." Come to find that I require a crown. In my back and forth with the office over this, I find that the hygienist had written in his notes that I came in with the crack. His notes state that I said "I think one of my teeth broke", which is patently false. When confronted with this, the dentist refused to believe me or cover any part of the now required procedure. More than the confusion over the cause of the crack in my tooth, it really worried me that the dental notes written at this place don't align with reality: that's scary, as they aren't things I review at every routine cleaning. Icing on the cake: I asked for my dental records to move on to a new dentist, and they sent me the dental notes for a different patient, casually violating HIPAA. Go at your own risk.

The whole office worked together to make my visit possible- and pleasant: they brightened my day, which ended up being more productive than I had even hoped- buoyed up by my morning dental appointment there! Dr Chammas was as informative and thorough as always- and so positive and supportive (I cannot say enough about her: if I could give her a ten-star rating, I would- including for her honesty and integrity about, for example, specifying risks as well as benefits of choosing one course of action/treatment over another. She has always been informed about new products on the market that I've asked about, and never once has seemed to be more concerned about dollars than my welfare and comfort with my dental decisions): Dr Chammas even let me know this week that my manual tooth brushing recently (instead of the usual electric toothbrushing...to protect a partially completed implant) proved more effective at removing plaque on all my teeth than electric toothbrushes had been for years: I can maneuver a manual toothbrush around my small mouth more easily than a bulkier electric toothbrush...so you might give manual toothbrushing a try, too, if you haven't for a while and reports at your teeth cleanings have been disappointing). ...And then it may not be worth mentioning, but I've sometimes thought that it seems almost unfair to "The Rest of Us" that Dr Chammas is frankly BEAUTIFUL, too(! Could not such gifts have been distributed a bit more equitably around the population?): In my mind, she could pass for a movie star or runway model any day (certainly tall enough!)...except, perhaps, for the facts that she is always SO informative: SO smart- and caring, and such a good listener; maybe a bit too reserved and kind to be a hot-shot celebrity type? In any event, Metro Boston hit the jackpot when Hollywood and the Grand Palais lost out on this one: we are most fortunate to have Dr Chammas as a *dentist* here, and I just hope lots of other dentally concerned folks like me will stop in to discover what a gem we have! My recent experience was also that X-rays at Sahara Dental were quick and comfortable (no gagging, or request needed to find a stabe to fit the laser-aiming mechanism into my tiny mouth)- so I thank them for updating the equipment/tech (and training), as needed, for us patients as well as the dental assistants. And- Alex at the front desk has been tremendously helpful this whole week, too: Because of his attention to detail, I double-checked to confirm that my dental insurance covers three teeth cleanings per year instead of two. Alex also kindly expedited some files' electronic transmission so I can better determine what to do next about my latest problem tooth- regarding which Dr Naji also stepped in to clarify the current situation for my further consideration. Thank You ALL again- to the whole Sahara Dental office! Sincerely.

I was also told that there's typically no charge if no work is done. During my appointment, Dr. Roy spent less than two minutes examining my tooth and immediately told me I needed both a filling and a crown, quoting me $4,000. When I asked if I could do just the filling and wait on the crown, they insisted both had to be done together--conveniently, the doctor was available to do it right away. I was surprised they didn't have any other patients waiting, which made me even more skeptical. I understand that they took X-rays, and I expected a charge for that. However, Dr. Roy never showed me my X-rays or discussed them with me in the treatment room, which I found unprofessional. When I checked out, I asked to see my X-ray, and instead of displaying it properly, the receptionist just handed me a printed picture of my tooth on a piece of paper, which felt careless and unprofessional. On top of that, when I checked in, they pushed me to get a cleaning first, making it feel like an upsell rather than genuine patient care. The final straw was the unexpected $235 charge just for the brief exam, which was never disclosed beforehand. Had I been informed, I wouldn't have proceeded. When I raised my concerns, the receptionist admitted that the call center wasn't properly trained but still made me pay. A business that fails to provide transparent pricing, pressures patients into expensive procedures, and then shifts the blame to internal miscommunication is not one I can trust. I won't be returning. Take my $235--I'll be spending my $4,000 at a dental clinic that values honesty and transparency.
