I got there 10 minutes early, filled out the same paperwork they have me fill out each year, and was brought in for pretesting within five minutes of my scheduled time. After that I was brought to the exam room. I ended up sitting in the exam room waiting for close to 40 minutes and finally a different optometrist than the one I scheduled with came in. She proceeded to come in without so much as introducing herself, her name is Melania Napolitano btw, and she hurriedly looked over my chart and started testing me. No questions about why I was there and each time I tried to ask something I received quick/dismissive responses. At one point she put something in my eyes without even telling me what it was. Was I being dilated??? What was that I asked. It wasn't dilation but something else she quickly muttered to me. When the exam was over less than 10 minutes after it started she never discussed (or told me) any of my test results. I used the bathroom on the way out and when I got to the front desk Napolitano was gone, off to the next patient to assuredly hurry them through their appointment as well. I mentioned to the front desk that I was never even told what my distance vision was, I was told my reading vision in the room only because I asked. They retrieved Napolitano and she told me my distance vision had gotten ever so slightly worse since the previous year. Well this was odd because when I had a contact lens exam only two days earlier they said the opposite, that my distance vision had gotten slightly better. I asked Napolitano how my vision could've been judged to be worse when I got every letter on the charts correct, my distance vision is still 20/15 from laser eye correction I know this, she said she had the machine adjusted off of last year's testing from the start. On top of this my reading vision with her came back as worse than what the optometrist came up with two days earlier. I would have loved to discuss these discrepancies further with Napolitano, that is what she's getting paid for isn't it?, but instead I was rushed out of there. Leaving the Mineola office dismayed I called the Middle Village office hoping to complain to someone about Napolitano. After waiting 15 minutes I got the "manager" Rita on the phone who didn't seem to take any interest in the complaints I had about how I was treated and simply wanted to focus on my eye testing results. This also left me highly dissatisfied and I asked for someone above her to speak to and Rita proceeded to tell me that she is the one and only OWNER of both practices (obviously not true). I said great, since you're the owner, and you're okay with your WORKER acting the way she did, then I will never be coming back to the practice again.

She called me liar when they wasted my time coming into the office. They had me standing there while trying to find and listen to a phone call that subsequently proved the staff made an error. They searched my phone number in Their logs, then realized I had called from a work line. They listened to the call only to realize I was given wrong information. No apology for the behavior and yelling at me in an office full of people. Don't go, don't waste your time. Waits are long, doctor is terrible. I have never been treated this way. Awful.

He is compassionate, caring, curious( asked my mother a lot of questions), persistent, HONEST( he would not do a surgery just to bang her insurance, which is a very good all inclusive plan), funny, very efficient, knows his stuff( he knew exactly where the DMV eye test forms were). He really connects with his patients and explains everything in simple words. My mother has been his patient for over 16 years. OCLI is a wonderful ophthalmology clinic that treats cataracts, diabetic eye issues, glaucoma, retina problems; also do LASIK. The office has modern equipment and machinery. It is clean.Alex was the great tech today who started the eye exam procedure. He was very patient,thorough and caring. We got there at 1 pm with 10 patients seated far away from each other with dividers. The flow was smooth and quick. Mom went in at 1:25 pm. We were done at 1:56 pm and ready to grab lunch. This office is centrally located in Mineola just a 5 minute drive from the Meadowbrook Pkwy. The appt process was beautiful and the day prior text for pre check in saved us a lot of time. In all my years of wearing glasses, I have never had a pair simply snap at the arm from being picked up normally. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened with the pair I purchased here only about a year and a half ago. When I called the office about what happened, I was told that the glasses were already a year and a half old, as though that were a reasonable lifespan for prescription eyeglasses. I was also told that Medicare "basically gave" me the glasses and that they were free in a way. I found that comment extremely condescending. Yes, Medicare provided coverage, but these were not simply "free glasses" that I was handed. I paid additional money out of pocket for the glasses and lenses, and more importantly, I am a paying patient who deserves to receive a quality product and be treated with respect. Being on Medicare or having a fixed income should not somehow lower the standard of what is considered acceptable. I was told I could come into the office and they would "see what they could do," but I was also reminded that things cost money and aren't free. I understand that businesses have costs. I wasn't asking for something for nothing. I was asking whether an optical office would stand behind a pair of prescription glasses that failed after only 18 months under what appears to have been completely normal use. What makes this particularly frustrating is that this is not the first time my family has had an issue with the quality of eyewear purchased here. About a year ago, my daughter's glasses purchased through this office also broke easily. In her case, she was NOT using Medicare. Her glasses were covered through a union insurance plan through her father, so this wasn't an issue of Medicare providing some supposedly inferior or no-cost eyewear. An optician at another office examined the glasses and told us they appeared to be defective. My mother ultimately had to pay out of pocket to have the replacement glasses made elsewhere. So I now have two separate experiences involving glasses purchased through this office that have failed prematurely. In my daughter's case, another optician actually identified the frame as appearing defective. That makes it very difficult for me to simply chalk my current experience up to bad luck. This is especially disappointing because this office is located in an affluent area and appears to specialize in higher-end and designer eyewear. I initially chose them because they accepted my insurance and had numerous positive reviews talking about how nice and accommodating they were. I expected that same level of customer service regardless of what type of insurance a patient carries. Instead, when I called about my broken glasses, the emphasis seemed to be on the fact that Medicare had paid for them and that they were already a year and a half old. I don't think 18 months should automatically be considered an acceptable lifespan for prescription eyeglasses, particularly when the frame broke from ordinary handling and there was no apparent misuse. I am not expecting an expensive designer frame for nothing, nor am I expecting a business to replace every pair of glasses indefinitely. I am expecting reasonable quality, reasonable durability, and a reasonable response when a product fails. What bothered me most was not simply that the glasses broke. Things can break. It was the attitude I encountered when I brought the problem to their attention. The implication that because Medicare covered the glasses they were somehow "free," and therefore perhaps not something I should expect much from, was extremely off-putting. People on Medicare and people living on fixed incomes still deserve quality products and professional, respectful treatment. Insurance coverage should determine how a patient pays--not how much consideration or quality they receive. After these two experiences, I have serious reservations about the quality of the frames being sold here and about the customer service provided when something goes wrong. Unfortunately, I won't be purchasing eyewear here again.

Instead, she handed her some sheets of paper not even related to her procedure. Mom had some complications a few days later, and we called Dr. Yao 4 or 5 times ove the course of a week, and neither she nor her office ever returned our calls. The final attempt at calling I used the emergency option to press 1, and the best the staff could do was keep me on hold 15 minutes then asked me for a good return call number. I never received a call back, therefore I was forced to take mom to urgent care, who recommended an emergency visit to an ophthalmologist THAT night. All because Dr. Yao would not return my call even on an emergency basis. I blame the staff and management of OCLI, in addition to Dr. Yao, for their lack of care, empathy, compassion, concern and downright inefficiency. Clearly, OCLI is a business model that focuses solely on the bottom line and how many patients they can book for procedures in their eye mill. I canceled our follow up appointment as well as a future surgical procedure. This was a miserable experience that caused us undue stress, anxiety and major inconvenience for mom who is 88 years old.
