I never know what looks good and in the past have been convinced that a pair looks good on me and when I get home I say, "what was I thinking." Preparing myself and going to Davis Vision because of my insurance, I was determined to stay within my allotted allowance. Upon entering and having my eye exam I was set at ease. The Doctor was pleasant and informative. Without using jargon that I had no idea what he meant, he explained why I was having difficulty seeing, that it wasn't my eyesight exactly but a focusing issue. In the past, I was just told- wear your glasses all the time. I finally understand why I have difficulty. Now on to my favorite part of my visit- picking out frames- I worked with Sue aka "mamma". she was beyond phenomenal! I have never had a pleasant experience picking out frames until today. She knows her stuff, and eliminated the need for me to be overwhelmed at the shelves- I just sat down and she brought frames to me. Through elimination, my preferences and honest feedback from Mamma, I found an awesome pair of frames that flatter my face and were within my budget. To boot, this took place in record time for me of in and out within one hour- in the past, I literally have spent over an hour and a half just trying to pick out frames! I also got a pair of prescription sunglasses through a buy one get one 1/2 off. Thank you so much for finally making this not only a tolerable experience but one I actually enjoyed!

In all my years of wearing glasses, I have never had a pair simply snap at the arm from being picked up normally. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened with the pair I purchased here only about a year and a half ago. When I called the office about what happened, I was told that the glasses were already a year and a half old, as though that were a reasonable lifespan for prescription eyeglasses. I was also told that Medicare "basically gave" me the glasses and that they were free in a way. I found that comment extremely condescending. Yes, Medicare provided coverage, but these were not simply "free glasses" that I was handed. I paid additional money out of pocket for the glasses and lenses, and more importantly, I am a paying patient who deserves to receive a quality product and be treated with respect. Being on Medicare or having a fixed income should not somehow lower the standard of what is considered acceptable. I was told I could come into the office and they would "see what they could do," but I was also reminded that things cost money and aren't free. I understand that businesses have costs. I wasn't asking for something for nothing. I was asking whether an optical office would stand behind a pair of prescription glasses that failed after only 18 months under what appears to have been completely normal use. What makes this particularly frustrating is that this is not the first time my family has had an issue with the quality of eyewear purchased here. About a year ago, my daughter's glasses purchased through this office also broke easily. In her case, she was NOT using Medicare. Her glasses were covered through a union insurance plan through her father, so this wasn't an issue of Medicare providing some supposedly inferior or no-cost eyewear. An optician at another office examined the glasses and told us they appeared to be defective. My mother ultimately had to pay out of pocket to have the replacement glasses made elsewhere. So I now have two separate experiences involving glasses purchased through this office that have failed prematurely. In my daughter's case, another optician actually identified the frame as appearing defective. That makes it very difficult for me to simply chalk my current experience up to bad luck. This is especially disappointing because this office is located in an affluent area and appears to specialize in higher-end and designer eyewear. I initially chose them because they accepted my insurance and had numerous positive reviews talking about how nice and accommodating they were. I expected that same level of customer service regardless of what type of insurance a patient carries. Instead, when I called about my broken glasses, the emphasis seemed to be on the fact that Medicare had paid for them and that they were already a year and a half old. I don't think 18 months should automatically be considered an acceptable lifespan for prescription eyeglasses, particularly when the frame broke from ordinary handling and there was no apparent misuse. I am not expecting an expensive designer frame for nothing, nor am I expecting a business to replace every pair of glasses indefinitely. I am expecting reasonable quality, reasonable durability, and a reasonable response when a product fails. What bothered me most was not simply that the glasses broke. Things can break. It was the attitude I encountered when I brought the problem to their attention. The implication that because Medicare covered the glasses they were somehow "free," and therefore perhaps not something I should expect much from, was extremely off-putting. People on Medicare and people living on fixed incomes still deserve quality products and professional, respectful treatment. Insurance coverage should determine how a patient pays--not how much consideration or quality they receive. After these two experiences, I have serious reservations about the quality of the frames being sold here and about the customer service provided when something goes wrong. Unfortunately, I won't be purchasing eyewear here again.

When I…read morearrived to my appointment, on time, I was greeted with a poorly printed and low on ink sign in sheet. I filled it out then handed it back to the receptionist and proceeded to wait for my appointment. After 40 min of waiting, I asked if I was going to be seen soon and was told someone would call my name. I sat back down for another 15 minutes. Annoyed, I went to a different person (presumably the manager/shift lead) and inquired about what is going on. She scrambled to find my check in, and just to realize it was lost in the mix. They called me in immediately after that. I was seen by a young male doctor who was nice enough. Appointment went smoothly but whatever was going on at the front desk needs to be addressed. Likely never to return to such an unprofessional and disorganized environment.

I left feeling very disappointed. And if I could keep that one star I would.
