My first visit at Inova Healthplex, they messed up the order and the following day I went to another Inova location and the specimen got lost. Today is Saturday and Dr. Barbano's office is closed but he called me personally to make sure I am feeling okay. Dr. Barbano is the exact opposite of my previous doctor. Five years ago, I was diagnosed with pneumonia after chest xray but never heard back from that doctor despite repeated follow up. It was probably a blessing in disguise because that prompted me to look for another PCP and found Dr. Barbano. I am so grateful to Dr. Barbano for his dedication to his patients. He has excellent bedside manner as well! Would not hesitate to recommend him to friends and family because he will take great care of his patients!!!

My husband is in IT and the first he noticed when he entered the office, was that there was no automation in the doctors office. No computers, everything was done with pen and paper. This was his first visit and they did not have him fill out a questionnaire about his medical history nor his family history and the doctor did not ask about it either. Second my husband had made a list of issues he wanted to discuss with the doctor and the doctor barely looked at the list. Dr. Barbano was very condescending and did not even look at one of my husbands main issues, pain in his foot due to gout, even though it was the first issue on the list. I understand that when people come to the office with a list of issues, one might not be able to go over them all but that is when the doctor should tell the patient to schedule another appointment to go over the other issues. It did not seem like Dr. Barbano had any interests in seeing my husband again. My husband felt very much like just another number and that the doctor did not really care. It was like the doctor wanted to find the negative in everything. Needless to say, he is not going back there.

I have been a patient of Dr. H's for over three decades. He is a no-nonsense type of guy, who…read morelistens and recommends options, keeping the patient in the decision making loop. As I have aged, I have replaced most of my medical professionals over time except Dr. H. He has stood the test of time. Yes he has had administrative issues in the past, but their new merger with another medical group should resolve that matter. Time will tell. Do not believe his poor rating -- it is nonsense. Note the dates on some of the more negative ones. This practice is working to resolve those issues people have been complaining about. Give them a try.

Dr H is a great doctor who cares and invited me to email him with questions. 5 stars…read more However, you have to get past his rude front office staff and god forbid that you have to call their billing department with a question as she's rude too. The nurses are VERY nice. I cringe when I call their office as their staff treats you like an idiot and very impatient like it's bothering their day. "I'm sorry for bothering you, even though that's YOUR JOB!" (1 Star off) The saddest part is that they CANNOT get their billing right or the way they charge is not a fair practice. You better hope that they don't ask you to get your blood redrawn for whatever reason. They will charge you for a $85 office visit and the cost of the blood exam to get your blood redrawn even though I did not see any of the Dr. or Nurse. I'm OK with additional blood exam charge, but a $85 office charge is despicable! When I called their billing, the lady said it's for an office staff time to look at the report. So a report from Quest that summarizes the entire report with my healthy range will cost me $85 for someone to read. BS! I had my blood drawn 3 times and each time a $85 charge, very unethical! See picture where I boxed 2 of the 3 extra charges! (2stars off) In addition, I go in for a physical, my copay should be $30, but I get billed later by them for a 90ish bill. They nickel and dime you for every treatment/advice they provide. His advice for telling me to eat healthy foods and exercise cost $215, in addition to an office visit that cost $205. The office billed my insurance for approximately $1000!!!! just for a physical. Even though I have insurance, I still had to pay around $100 after my co pay. Either the billing was wrong or it's their way of gouging patients. If you don't have insurance, you'll be over charged as you can see. I reviewed my previous physcial with other INOVA Doctors and the charge amount was fair. I paid the co-pay and paid for the bloodwork. I will NOT go there again. Dr H is great, definitely not a knock on him but his supporting cast ruins the experience. When I called INOVA, their receptionist are nice and will work with you to schedule an appointment. As important, they don't charge additional fees.

Really love this practice. We've only seen Dr. Murphy and Dr. Staats, but I really love them both…read more Dr. Murphy saw right away that my baby had tongue tie and referred us to someone in the area immediately to get that fixed. My friend's baby also has tongue tie, but her pediatrician told her the only doctors who can fix that were in Reston or Georgetown, and she felt it was too far to take her newborn. I also feel like Dr. Murphy really treats all his patients as his own grandkids; I caught him calling himself Pop-Pop to my baby before he corrected himself. I feel like the doctors in this practice are appropriately concerned when something might be up (ie. my baby was a preemie, and Dr. Murphy was very vigilant about his jaundice and bilirubin levels, even making me go to the hospital to get a more accurate bilirubin check. It was kind of annoying but better safe than sorry.) However, I don't feel like they go overboard. I asked about vitamin D drops since I am breastfeeding, and Dr. Staats wasn't against them but also honestly said that they're fairly recent and that she didn't use them with her kids. I find they both like to explain and teach, and I appreciate that. I always have a lot of questions and never feel rushed or like they are annoyed to answer them. Truthfully, I don't think they're as vigilant as other doctors might be (ie. putting baby through tests to see how they're reaching milestones, insisting on the vitamin D drops if breastfeeding, etc.), but I feel like they're vigilant where it counts and otherwise just let kids grow. I prefer this. Lastly, it has a very home-y, family doctor feel. If that's what you're looking for, highly recommend. PS. They are upfront about not having an official lactation consultant on site, but I spoke to Dr. Staats about some of my difficulties and she correctly suspected mastitis and told me how to alleviate the pain. My OB even incorrectly thought it was thrush at first until I got the full-blown mastitis symptoms, but luckily I had Dr. Staat's advice to follow.

Dr. Posner went a step further after becoming an internist. He went through rigorous continuing education to earn his diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine certification, which is only awarded to internal medicine physicians who continue their education and training while in practice. Generally when you're under the care of an internist, you won't need to see any other types of doctors for routine care. Internal medicine physicians, like Dr. Posner, are highly trained at diagnosing even the most complex of health issues. During your visit, he will gather information about your health, and family medical history and discuss any symptoms you're having, or concerned about. It's typical to order some basic lab work, especially if you're just getting set up as a new patient. He might order additional tests if further clarification with any diagnosis is needed. Once he diagnoses medical issues, if any at all, he'll be the one treating you. Or if you have a chronic health condition, like diabetes or high cholesterol, he will teach you how to manage it and prescribe any medications you need. Your primary care physician is an essential partner in your efforts to stay healthy. Even if you never get sick, you still need to see your PCP once a year, just to have screenings done for chronic conditions that may not show any signs.
