I am sad that I have but 5 stars for this review! Dr Joffee has so much patience for my anxiety and can devote the time to dealing with it and building trust, so visits aren't dreaded. I lost 17 pounds not quickly, but fairly easily with his guidance. Most stuff can be handled via email so I don't need to take off work. Highly responsive. Not a pill pusher, but highly respects my ability to make choices for my body even if it isn't the choice he would make. Financially I was able to pair his fee with a slightly higher deductible plan at work. The combination of the two was actually less than what I was paying working for a school system and I get significantly better care. read more

Dr. Joffee's reviews begin with Dr. Joffee more times than not. (slightly skeptical) I went to him and did not see the fees or additional procedures. He is a very caring PCP, but I think where he lacks is experience. In all honesty, if you get a cold, or a cut, he is amazing. But if you get a bout of meningitis or another illness which is chronic in nature - i would stay away until his practice matures. I have total faith, it will. He's definitely not a 1 star doc and he is trying his best to be a 5 star. To me, Dr. Joffee is a 2 star only because I have seen better, thats all. Honestly shocked by the negative reviews. I was referred to Dr. Joffee by a coworker and he is the best primary care doctor I've had in my entire adult life. (My pediatrician was pretty great and I got stickers if I got a shot.) ;-) I appreciate that Dr. Joffee's office schedules you for a full appointment time, rather than the 7 minutes (or less!) you get in any other office. I have the time to sit with him and discuss my health, ask questions, review test results, everything I want to do without feeling rushed out the door. His office does have an extremely strict cancellation policy, but that's only a problem if you're the type of person who can't keep appointments. read more

I'm very surprised by the negative reviews. Dr. Joffee's been nothing but professional, courteous and thorough with my wife and me. I've referred two other people to see him, too. Dr. Joffee is very good and evaluating our overall health talking about recommendations he things will benefit us. He works well with specialists and maintains thorough records to help keep your medical file up to date. I'm very happy we found Dr. Joffee and hope to continue seeing him for years to come. I didn't realize how good I had it with Dr. Joffee until I had to go out and find another GP.... Still shopping btw. He really cares about you and your health as a whole. It was clear in his care and even more clear when I received my medical records from their office and was able to read through the copious notes he took on my health and medical care. The only reason I'm no longer seeing Dr. Joffee is because he's switched to a direct primary care payment format meaning you have to pay a monthly fee to have him as your doctor. At 30 years old and relatively healthy it just doesn't fit my budget for the moment. When I was receiving care from Dr. Joffee he was amazing. He really took the time to listen to all of your concerns and understand your health as a whole and discuss treatment options. It really felt like he was your partner in your healthcare and not just someone pushing drugs or telling you what to do. I may get fed up and just bite the bullet and sign up with Dr. Joffee if I'm not able to find someone on my insurance plan who offers a similar level of care. If you're okay with their payment structure I highly recommend Dr. Joffee. It also sounds like you'll receive even more care attention and access with their new level of operation. read more

Dr. Joffee is thorough, I give him that. However, he is all about money. He is not willing to work with you when you are having insurance issues/delays. If you need a prescription refill for a medication (asthma related) that is working well for you, he makes you go in to see him again, even though he knows you will most likely be on that medication for life. I understand there will be times when medications stop working for you and you may need an increase on your dosage, or an overall change, but if you've only been taking it for less than a year, and it's working great for you, why not just call in the refill. Going into unnecessary appointments takes time off work and sometimes, you need your medication right away and can't afford to wait. read more

While I was suffering from a hard to diagnose problem and was under Dr. Joffee's care I decided to go to a specialist for a second opinion. So I asked his office for my lab reports to be faxed to specialist but they did not send them. When I called to ask what happened the secretary tell me Dr. Joffee decided to wait until some additional blood work was ready. Reasons why this bothered me? - He denied me my records when I needed them,, therefore my specialist lacked useful information - He purposely decided to withhold MY records until he thought it was the right time to send them - They did not even tell me about that decision - My insurance has been billed unnecessarily for repeat labs, I do hope I don't have to pay anything out of pocket read more

I'd like to give a shout-out to my doctor. For the past four years, his diagnosis of my medical predicaments has been more accurate than my self-diagnosis via WebMD by a margin of 6 - 0 after comparison with lab results. I feel that his insight is probably attributable to some sort of superhuman ability. Everyone at the office has been so friendly, and I've never had any billing issues with either my old HSA or my current PPO plan. First of all Yelp needs to add a 6th review star for this very reason. Been with this practice for 3 years now and I just called to inquire whether I needed a referral for a specialist who I previously saw upon Dr. Joffee's recommendation. Jessica in the front office is so well-versed in insurance and she was very quick to guide me through the messy industry language on my new insurance card and verified that I did not need a referral. She said if the specialist requires a confirmation from the Doc for the visit, just to call back and they'd take care of it. Talk about a comfort level of help from your doctor's office! Honestly, the best in the business. Dr. Joffee is a caring and compassionate doctor, and has a fantastic bed side manner. I trust him and he has helped me overcome many medical hurdles in life. When I called the office with an outbreak of shingles, they fit me in that very afternoon. He is knowledgeable and on-top of the latest technology. The office staff is equally as good. Dr. Joffee has been our family doctor since 2007, and he has given us a compassionate quality of care such that I do not often see anymore in the medical profession that often crams patients in and hustles them out as quick as they can. Each patient gets at minimum a half hour of his time, and he really listens to you and asks you a lot of questions to work with you on your treatment. Walk in times are also set aside in his schedule for emergencies if you are sick and call needing a same day appointment. He keeps you up to date on vaccinations, flu shots, and physicals and, if ever a treatment is not working, he encourages follow up and really works hard find what works best to provide optimum care. And if it turns out you need a specialist, he keeps good referral contacts. In addition, in his email news letters, he works with patients who may have had issues with insurance coverage and is the only physician I have ever seen who laid out the costs of his basic services so that patients could keep coming to him if their insurance was not accepted by the practice. I live in MD, and, the ultimate testimony, for me, is that I am willing to drive to VA to see him at his practice rather than try to find a new family doctor. :) read more

I just got new insurance and, unfortunately, Dr. Joffee does not participate in my new plan. I am quite sad about this. Dr. Joffee is as good as it gets. He is the best doctor I have worked with. He actually took an interest in me as a person. I wasn't just a number to him. He always emphasized my total wellness and not just treating my symptoms and getting me out the door. As soon as I get new insurance, I will check and see if Dr. Joffee takes it. I would happily return to him. I encourage anyone looking for a doctor in the Northern Virginia area to give Dr. Joffee a try. He's great. I don't know what to say about the negative reviews below -- I was honestly surprised to see them since I have had such a good experience at this office. Dr. Joffee is a compassionate, knowledgeable, and professional doctor. He's one of the best doctors I've had. There are times when his staff has been impatient or somewhat less than completely friendly, and that's the only reason I am giving him four stars instead of five. He's been my primary care provider for two years and I continue to see him despite the fact that I live in Maryland and have to drive to NoVa on the beltway in order to see him. That should tell you something - he's worth the drive! My family and I have been going to Dr. Joffee for several years. In my experience, he is as good as it gets. Specifically, he is competent, thorough, and is pains taking in getting a full history. His diagnostic acumen is spot on, and he has an excellent group of specialists he refers his patients to. I spent a good part of my professional life, defending doctors in medical malpractice cases. A common theme I would see in the cases I defended, was, that the defendant doctor, did not spend enough time, in getting a full history of signs and symptoms, and would often miss something. I may have caught Dr. Joffee on a bad day but my visit was unpleasant to say the least. He was not helpful and wouldn't listen to what I was trying to say. He made me feel like I was ignorant and uneducated because "I didn't go to medical school". I will not subject myself to that kind of treatment. I've had a difficult year with a number of health issues and have had a number of visits to the office. Dr. Joffee has always been patient and thorough, and managed to answer all of my questions. Dr. Joffee has been a great find for me. He sets aside a lot of time for appointments, rarely runs more than 5 minutes behind and actually listens. He doesn't mind that I come in with questions and sometimes my own research. I really appreciate that, since most doctors will go out of their way to belittle you for finding information online and treat you like you're too stupid to look for credible sources and take information with a grain of salt. When I had a slightly mysterious health issue in the fall, he was very collaborative in trying to find an answer, helped me weigh pros and cons of running more tests, and was honest about what we knew and *couldn't know*, based on the information we had. Basically, I feel like he's a true partner in keeping me healthy, and I think we would all fare better if more physicians had that attitude. I have a number of serious health problems that require a several daily medications and frequent visits to doctors. No GP that I have ever had comes anywhere close to Dr. Joffee's level of thoroughness, organization, concern, and conscientiousness. He takes meticulous notes, always double checks any contra-indications before prescribing me any med for any reason, and always reviews all notes from my patient file before my appointment to allow for the best consultation. I have been completely taken care of and taken care of well at each appointment. Additionally, Dr. Joffee, Jessica, and Maria are always friendly and courteous. I've been going to Dr Joffee for over 8 years now. I've also stayed with him as he's transitioned to his direct payment system (no longer accepting insurance). He has always been a conscientious Dr. He has never rushed me through an appointment and I never have to wait long in the office when I arrive. He never makes you feel uncomfortable no matter the subject and he doesn't leave anything to chance. I'll admit when he moved to the subscription model I was concerned and considered leaving. However, after shopping around for a new GP, and seeing the alternatives, I honestly think it's worth the extra cost. I can shoot him an email through his secure patient portal and get immediate answers. With his new system he tries to get you in for appointments ASAP as well. Usually the same day in my experience. If you want a top notch GP and are willing to try his subscription model I highly recommend him. read more

In my opinion, Dr. Joffee is all about the money. For a routine physical he ordered unnecessary tests (a test for a diabetic even though I don't have diabetes) and then wouldn't help to resolve the situation between my insurance company and the outside LabCorp when I was sent a bill that should have been covered as a preventative physical. The finest family practitioner I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. Meticulous and actually talks to the patient about issues. His physicals are off the charts.... other doctors I've seen have seen his final reports and commented on their superb detail. This guy is old school in his approach to patient interaction (that's good.... he takes his time) and is extremely knowledgeable in the latest medical technology, research and treatments. I'm shocked that Dr. Joffee is rated anything less than five stars. He is the best physician I've ever had. I moved out of the area two years ago, and he is one of the few things I miss. I found him after numerous glowing recommendations on a local forum. I originally saw him for a constant thirsty feeling. At that very first visit, he took a complete history, made me feel like he had all the time in the world to answer all my questions, and was thorough in his tests. This took no less than 30 min. Subsequent visits were the same, in addition to following up on what we discussed the previous visit. He seemed to have reviewed my chart before entering the exam room. He is on top of current practices and if there is anything he doesn't know, he looks up the information immediately on his iPhone. He has a nice bedside manner, and he practices medicine like it was meant to: with the patient first. I hope that someday Dr. Joffee will move out to my neck of the woods so he can once again be in charge of my medical care. read more
