Pork Vermicelli Bowl, Special Banh Mi
Jacquelyn C.

Finally got to try Dr. Banh Mi and it was a bit disappointing. One banh mi is $10 which is a bit exorbitant in my opinion and there is not much filling. The vermicelli bowl was better and I did enjoy it, but it did feel like it was missing something in terms of flavor. The pork was a bit salty. I also got an avocado smoothie which was also alright at best. I wish the avocado flavor was a bit stronger. The space itself is wide open with a good amount of seating and service was quick!

My husband and I love Dr. Banh Mi. We're here between two to three times a week for their delicious banh mi sandwich and the oh-so-very delicious Vietnamese coffee--my absolute favorite. Customer service is always excellent. The ambiance is pretty good. I love that they wear scrubs and scrub caps. Very fitting with the restaurant's name. Also, I love that I can order ahead of time through Yelp because there are times when we're in a rush, so it's nice to show up and our order is ready. So that's a plus. Definitely give this place a try. You won't be disappointed!

Peach Green Tea, so yummy

I don't even know where to start. But lets just say I have eaten the sandwiches from this place 3x this week. I ordered delivery on door dash twice due to rain and one time for pick up because I passed this place on my way to South Padre yesterday. The first day I tried the garlic beef sandwich. It was so tender, and refreshing. I love the taste of the carrots and cucumber and the touch of cilantro. The veggies and flavor isn't heavy or overbearing. I tried the chicken sandwich two days later, still flavorful, but my favorite is the garlic beef. You can already guess today's lunch order was the garlic beef sandwich. I have tried three of their green teas so far. Peach, Mango, and Pineapple. All very tasty and not overly sweet. If you order on door dash they give you a sweetening level option, i just always stick to the recommended. I'll be ordering these drinks on rotation from now on. Still need to try all the other drinks on their menu, and when I do, I'm coming back to update this novel of a review. For my pick up they were friendly. Interior is clean and small. For my delivery items loved the hand written message on my tea cup. Adds a nice touch!

Right from my first bite, I encountered a huge chunk of soft fat. As I began pulling the 'protein' out of the sandwich, all I found were pieces of straight-up fat and scraps--no actual meat. Please don't cheat your customers like this. I didn't order a fat sandwich, and frankly, this is inedible. I wouldn't even consider feeding these fatty chunks to my dogs, as the sheer amount of lard would make even a pet sick.

Noodles with Pork

The best Banh Mi in San Antonio. The bread made on site is the star of the show. I loved the extra fresh ingredients. Also, the Noodles with Pork were outstanding. Again, fresh reigns supreme. Filling, fresh and served in a clean environment.

Banh Mi with Grilled pork

Super yummy! The grilled pork was fantastic on the Banh Mi. It was so tender and juicy. I got it without the jalapeños! We also got the summer rolls which were alright - nothing crazy. Overall great Banh Mi place!

So tasty! Staff was very helpful and friendly. The summer roll with peanut sauce was so fresh and perfect for these texas summer days, especially if you pair it with a popping boba lemonade. I can't wait to come back.

I've been here about 8x now as it's very close to home. Ambiance is modern and trendy, order and pay at the front counter and they bring your food out to you. Food is good, entrees include fresh and pickled veggies, hot and cold elements. They specialize in Vietnamese Bahn Mi (sandwiches) and rice bowl or vermicelli noodle bowls. I've never ordered anything other than the rice bowls, I'm hooked. Today I try the sesame chicken rice bowl for the first time. I came yesterday, too and had the grilled pork rice bowl. I have to say, they pretty much tasted the same. There is a variety of protein to choose from including other items I haven't tried yet, like egg strips, char siu bbq pork and tofu. For the bowl and a cup of water, I paid $11.90. These bowls are very filling due to the rice and protein and keep you interested, due to the variety of color, texture, temperatures and flavors that range from salty to sweet to sour and even spicy if you choose. The chicken in today's bowl is tender and flavorful, though doesn't appear to be very fresh. I felt that way about yesterday's grilled pork, too. But all in all, I love their bowls. Now that they bake their own baguettes in house, I'll have to try a sandwich very soon. And as for service, youngsters that aren't quite seasoned for customer service, but I like the food and the playlist that entertains in the background which is usually 80's rock and dance music.

I read so many good reviews of this place. I ordered the Banh Mi sandwich with grilled pork. At $7.99, is a pretty fair price. I also ordered an iced coffee at $4.99. Sandwich was a good size. To break it down, the French bread was quite hard on the ends of the sandwich, not edible. I had to break them off. The meat was VERY flavorful especially with the veggies and herbs. I was a bit disappointed they used straight mayo and not the Vietnamese Bò, ( a mix of butter/Mayo sauce, herb). I was also expecting the Vietnamese coffee to be a traditional made iced milk coffee. The iced coffee I got tasted of Instant packaged Vietnamese coffee. I believe if they can make it a bit more traditional, they will have even more customers. I also see the owner follows up on customer reviews which is a big plus for their business. Ambiance is great as well.

Do I recommend this place? Yes! I loved everything I had here! Their bowls are healthy and filling, their banh mi is delicious! They make their own bread in house!! I recommend you try their horchata!

I have been waiting for a Banh Mi place to open up near me as I have been craving the crunchy bread filled with scrumptious delights, and when Dr Banh Mi opened I made my way there right away. I tried the Garlic Beef and Grilled Pork and both were excellent. There was just the right amount of meat and the bread had a great crusty crunch. The shredded carrot and cucumber mixed in perfectly and finished well with the cilantro. I washed it all down with a Milk tea with boba that had a great sweetness and chewy bite. I have gone back multiple times since to try out the Chicken banh mi as well as a few of the different bowls they have and everything has been great. This is becoming one of my go-to lunch spots. Give it a try.

Rice bowl

I waited too long to try this place. I'm a big fan of Singhs restaurant and didn't think this place would measure up but it definitely did. I got a rice bowl with teriyaki chicken and I loved it. The service is quick everything seems freshly made. The building is clean and there are places to eat inside. Pros: would be the portion size and cost. Cons: no drive thru and limited menu. I'll be back.

Chicken Vermicelli Bowl and Horchata slushy w/boba
Liz G.

Wow! And Wow! I've driven by this place so many times. I always thought it was just a sandwich place but my daughter tried it and told me about the rice bowls and the vermicelli bowls. So decided I'd see for myself. Can I just tell you how amazing this chicken vermicelli bowl is!! The gentleman that took my order recommended I try the spicy fish sauce and he was right on the money with that suggestion. It is so good!!. And the Horchata slushy with the Boba is fire!! The perfect amount of sweetness and a perfect amount of cinnamon, then throw some Boba in there, how can you go wrong? My new favorite spot!!

Ask the Community - Dr Banh Mi

Do they put the liver pate and mayo on the sandwich?

They did on mine. I also asked for extra on the side.

I am afraid that I must change my review of Pho Kim Long. I am sad to do so because this was one of…read moremy favorite local restaurants for over a decade. However, my most recent encounter has soured me completely, and I think I will never return. My favorite dish here was something that did not appear on the menu, Bo Tai Chanh salad. Even though it was not listed, they would whip it up at my request. It consists of beef cappaccio on an iceberg lettuce salad with Vietnamese vegetables and a fish sauce based dressing. Tonight they refused my order. What makes this refusal all the more frustrating is that Pho Bo Tai Chanh (the soup version) is listed on the menu and promoted as one of the favorite dishes. All that was needed, to meet my request, was to cut up half a head of lettuce and throw the non-liquid ingredients of the soup on top. Every restaurant should remember the customer is always right. Their only purpose is to meet their customers' requests to the best of their ability. I understand when a kitchen cannot meet requests with the ingredients or equipment they have. For example, I always call 24 hours ahead to order Peking Duck because the traditional methods require that amount of time to prepare the dish. Or I remember being refused a request to have my meat served rare when the restaurant had already cooked all its meat to medium rare using sous vide. I don't expect the kitchen to do the impossible. But every kitchen must be ready to meet special request whether health related like peanuts, shrimp, gluten, salt, carbohydrates, etc. or relate to tastes or ethics like vegetarian, vegans, seafood, etc. To fail one's customers is the first step to being one of the numerous restaurants to fail and become irrelevant. Any restaurant that refuses to meet reasonable requests fails the fundamental test for good service and does not deserve to be patronized. P.S. I end up going down the road to Yaya's Thai Restaurant (another local restaurant) to get something that met my tastes and preferences.

Finally got around to trying this place out and regret not going sooner! It's a small(ish) place…read moreso there was a small wait on a cold day but well well worth the wait! Once we got sat we placed our orders and had food in front of us in 15ish minutes? It was great. The wings were delicious, you could throw the sauce on a tire and I'd eat it. The bowls were so refreshing and delicious and the pho was perfect. I can't wait to go back! Give this place a try, be aware the parkings tight, don't get overwhelmed or thrown off find the parking get inside and be ready for some amazing food from amazing people! Side note: everytime the older Vietnamese women came to clear our plates as we finished she told us good job for fishing our food and tbh it felt so warming and homey without thought
