As a result, Dear Hubby and I haven't been close by to Little Calf to remember to stop in for quite a while. Recently, though, after a nearby medical appointment I felt like some non-dairy ice cream. It was a Saturday in the mid-afternoon, and they weren't very crowded, which worked out great for us. They always have at least four options for frozen "ice cream" without the cows' milk dairy. Having just been through an MRI test, I decided to treat myself to a small sundae. Hadn't had one in ages! Their hot fudge is outstanding! Just the hit of chocolately goodness I was craving. I paired it with lemon sorbet. It was a wonderful combination of sweet and tart. It was warm enough to sit out on their side patio and just relax for a while. I remarked to DH that I miss all the plants that the previous business owner had kept out on the patio for atmosphere. The current iteration is clean, but on the boring side. We love their food, so I'm overlooking the lack of ambiance for now. That being said, DH and I have been discussing recently how much we miss the kinds of places that used to have great style in their decor. Theme restaurants are more rare these days than they ought to be. I'm sorry for our kids and grandkids that they don't get to experience more of those kinds of visually interesting kinds of places without having to go to a theme park. I definitely enjoyed my small sundae as a wind-down from the whole MRI experience!

They got a variety of ice creams, some common ones but also some new ones. This is the first place I ever had a chance to try the espresso ice cream, which is ice cream with a shot of espresso, and it was delicious, especially as a coffee lover and ice cream lover. Kids devoured all their ice cream, which is rare for them to do. They also serve food here, which we did not get to try but is good to know is an option. They have tables everywhere and a fountain machine and some unique teas I got to try, like their lavender tea! This was beautiful and so amazing. I can't wait to come back and grab another ice cream espresso from here and maybe try one of their sandwiches. Yum!

UPDATE: I decided to update my original review. I originally complained that I didn't like the fact…read morethe toppings were behind the counter where an employee would add them. I gave this place a shot again today and there was a small kid in front of me that kept dipping her fingers into her cup and then sucking her fingers off, about four times total. It grossed me the heck out, but I avoided the handles she touched and was at that point SO thankful that she was not touching the whole toppings bar, handles and possible toppings. Her little brother started coughing while at the toppings bar telling the employee his preferences, and again I was SO thankful that the toppings were enclosed by plexiglass and not in the open for his germs to fly on as he did. Bottom line, I realized that this setup (though seemingly 'less fun') is WAY more hygienic and actually made me feel a little queasy thinking about all the other times I went to open bar froyo places and touched/ate all the little kid grimy licked finger handles and coughs. This actually will become my new place of preference for this reason! The staff was also very pleasant this time and they listened very well to my picky preferences...I've changed my review from 2 to 5 stars for how clean and hygienic this place always is!

Editing to respond to owners (or managers?) comment: It's…read morenot that it didn't meet MY expectations. By the looks of your reviews, you are hiring the wrong people. I literally thought this little girl was going to physically assault me. All because I started adding a flavor of yogurt to my cup and it was watery, so rather than throw the whole thing away I was spooning that little portion into the trash can - literally 2 spoons fulls, and she became enraged. It was weird and uncalled for. Get a grip on your establishment. Look at all these reviews about your employees and the cleanliness of the place. Your general statement after each review does nothing to make us want to come back. Whoever owns this location - you should reach out to me via private message. This is the second time one of your employees has acted completely inappropriately. Between the customer service and the lack of cleanliness, your employees are going to ruin your business. I am a business owner, I know that employees can make or break your business. You have too much competition in Simi now to be having employees like this. Today it was the girl with the pink and black hair. CRAZY interaction.
