The Chef's Corner at Downtown Kitchen has been cooking up some stellar dishes the past few months! It's also great to be able to ask the chef questions about the dishes about allergies, etc., or just to give feedback, especially for great dishes. Healthier options like Curry-rubbed Mahi-Mahi with Asian salad, Salmon salad with rice noodles and watermelon radish, and Buttermilk Chicken Salad have impressed me, and heartier dishes including Lamb Curry with cumin rice, Garlic Chicken with black pepper rice, Garlic Pork Bites with polenta cakes, and today's Beef Bourguignon have all been excellent! The Lamb Curry dish is in my top 3-5 all-time favorite dishes from Downtown Kitchen! I'm a big Clam Chowder fan, but I'm picky, and the one I had a month or two ago may have been the best one made here. It had a thick and creamy, well-seasoned base with plenty of clams and potatoes. Definitely a strong showibg! They have chili available daily now for the colder seasons, and I look forward to trying it again soon, since it's been very good the past few years! read more

Downtown Kitchen is a place I go to often when I'm not really feeling the food they make at work. Being upstairs in the US Bank building is quite convenient because it's literally just a few quick steps for me to grab some to drink or a bite to eat. This place has a variety of things from sushi, burgers, chicken sandwiches, donuts, cheesecurds, pizza, breakfast items and many more. They also have a special everyday which you can see on their website. I've tried a couple things and I'd say the ones that have been hits for me are for breakfast the chorizo burrito or the fried chicken sandwich. For lunch I've done the Sushi, custom burgers. cheesecurds, chicken tenders and custom chicken sandwiches which have all been good. Just a tip they don't place the cheesecurds out to grab and go so if you want some you'll just have to tell one of the chefs to fry some up for you. I check the specialties often and one of the items I absolutely loved was the shrimp poboy. On warm french bread, they put decent sized breaded fried shrimp, lettuce, tomato and a wonderful aioli. Wouldn't say it was the best poboy I had but was definitely one of the better ones and if it's ever on their specials again I won't care what my work is offer for lunch, I might just have to get that shrimp poboy and save it for dinner later. If none of these items work for you they also have a pretty big salad bar and when it comes to drinks (all non-alcoholic) they have a variety of special energy drinks, sodas, flavored waters and etc. To make things better since it's a Bartolotta restaurant you can sign up for their reward program at the register if you haven't already and acquire points each time you go to eventually earn a $25 gift card/voucher which is enabled into your rewards account and can be used at any Bartolotta restaurant. I've already taken advantage of thia great perk once since I go here often. After you sign up at the register, make sure you go to the Bartolotta Rewards website and activate your free membership, after you do this you pretty much won't need you rewards card, you can just give them your phone number each time you purchase things. Only reason it's not 5 stars is because for the price you pay on some of the items, the quantity is not much or the quality can sometime not be so great depending on the chef. Best batter I had in a while. I dont know what they put in that batter, but they bett not give a way that recipe, otherwise Im gonna have to barrow that bad boy! LOL. Downtown Kitchen is a Bartolotta restaurant on the second floor of the US Bank building. If you haven't stopped in since Bartolotta took over this cafeteria space, you are in for a big surprise at how different it looks from the old Lake View Market. Improvements include private booths, modern decor, a bar, several tv's, North Point custard and burgers, and a very good soup and salad bar. They are constantly making changes based on customer feedback. In general, it is more expensive than Lake View as I expected, but the soup and salad bar is still a good deal (sold by weight). They still have daily specials that change, however there is not as much variety as Lake View had. All in all, I like the improvements. As always, it is convenient, fast, and the view of the Lake is great! read more

I thought it was just ok. When I heard they had sushi I was expecting a sushi bar not the Hissou that you can buy at Pick N' Save. I opted for a Asian Salad at one of the other stalls. It was around $7.50. They had a selection of sandwiches and quesadillas made to order as well as pizza. Holey Moley donuts was there also but their space is kinda dark in the front and I completely forgot when we left. We were in the area but wouldn't make a special trip. I've compiled the same salad every day for lunch for the past two weeks. Still not bored of it. While it gets pricey ($9-$11 each day) I'm full afterwards and feel as though I ate a healthy lunch! Great atmosphere and very efficient getting in and out of the kitchen. It's a nice place to go considering there aren't a ton of other options in walking distance for a work lunch. I visit here for breakfast too, and it took awhile to get the hang of ordering my breakfast a certain way to keep the price down. But I got it! Overall, a great place. I totally cannot believe I haven't review this place yet! I work downtown, so I eat here CONSTANTLY. Why? It has a GREAT selection of food, that is moderately priced and it is super clean. It isn't super gourmet but really good for a cafeteria style place. Pros: You don't have to wait in line, or struggle to find a place to sit. Some of my faves: nachos, turkey club wrap, pizza from piccola, and of course, their amazing salad bar. Cons: I am a little salty they stopped putting cottage cheese & fruit on the salad bar. Bottled drinks are overpriced but whatever - I don't buy them anyway. Also, you should include fries with the sandwiches you buy from Northpoint. I have being going here a couple times a week for 2 weeks and can honestly say, i'm disappointed. Firstly, your hours are 6:30am to 4pm. Breakfast is 6:30-10am and lunch is 11-2:30. So what exactly is the option between 10-11am? A salad? Nobody states that at the restaurant when you ask in person. Secondly, lunch ends at 2:30, so when i walk in at 2pm and everyone's already closing their stations, if not already closed. All of a sudden on certain days they close at 2.......... Excuse me, what? Cant rate the food because i've only been able to catch it once and once doesn't count. All i've been able to really try is a bottle of soda and a banana. read more

OK, but uneven in food quality. For a business lunch, we came over here as a group. Of the different options the hot sandwiches and Mexican were most popular. The hot sandwiches were quite good, at least I thought the Ruben was first rate. On the Mexican side, the food quality was just OK. I had a Carnitas burrito and found the meat to be very bland. It was quite acceptable, but not a place I would seek out. So if you want to avoid the weather and stay inside it's A fine option. It's a little bit on the pricey side. read more

My review is only for this space as a Special Events venue. We were fortunate to attend the first Bartollotta's-hosted event here: Dinner with Mario Batali. I was surprised by how well choreographed the event was, especially since it was the first of its kind held here. There were a few things that could have been better: The check-in process could have been more effecient, and the bars were naturally crowded and slow. There was a cocktail hour where hors d'vours were paraded through the room. It seemed that every time they came near me, they last one on the plate was being snatched up. Once we figured out where they were coming from, we lingered in that area. No problem after that. The celebrity chef of the evening, Mario Batali, was very accessible to the 425 people in attendance. We were able to have our pictures taken with him and exchange pleasantries. Once we were seated and the actual diner service began, things ran like clockwork. It was much like being at a very nice wedding dinner. Tables were served all at once with an army of servers. Wine was poured regularly, and generously. Of course, the food was amazing, but I wouldn't expect anything else considering the nature of this event. I felt Bartolotta's did a great job with the renovation. Yes, this is a cafeteria by day, but at night it makes a pretty good event venue, especially for something that is food-industry centered. Logistically, the parking situation is not great. We parked in the US Bank parking structure on the south side of the building. I'm glad there were posted directions to the venue, because I never would have found my way otherwise. Bathrooms are a bit of a walk from the main room, and the placement of the cocktail bars choked the flow of the room. That being said, I look forward to the next event we attend here. read more

Look, I don't know how else to describe this other than upscale cafeteria food. And that's not a bad thing. Picture your college union, high school/workplace cafeteria. And now picture it with the Bartolotta touch. Good ingredients, proper seasoning, and a rotating, varied selection. I enjoy grabbing a cup of soup and whatever sandwich or protein special is available for the day. Prices are reasonable. I can't quite pull the trigger on four stars given better options nearby (Louise's, Elsa's, Buckley's, Public Market), but it's very good if you're nearby and want a wide variety. read more

I bought eggs and breakfast potatoes this morning and my stomach has been hurting and I've been feeling nauseous all day. This is just another reminder why I need to avoid buying from this place, especially with the prices they are charging. for this price, you expect a quality food and that's not what is being sold there. Sales people DO NOT wear gloves after touching dirty buckets sitting by the ice cream machine when they serve you ice cream. I believe a customer should not ask a salesperson to wear gloves to make sure they follow the food safety protocol. read more

Glad the Public Market is only a few blocks away to get some good food. -Pay attention to your sandwiches, I was overcharged $1 for a grilled cheese sandwich. -Matzo ball soup was hit or miss, perfect one day, too salty the next. -Salad bar has variety, which is my default if nothing else is appetizing that day. So far, so good. The salad bar and the pasta are great, and reasonably priced. My one concern so far is their breakfast items, although serving breakfast is brand new for them this week. I ordered eggs in a basket, which I haven't had in years. Finished eating it an hour or so ago and cannot get the grease out of my mouth. Likewise, the hash browns that come with it are deep-friend hash browns like you expect at McDonalds. Wasn't expecting, nor did I enjoy, that at all. My friend and I went here for a quick lunch during the workday. He's a vegetarian so we needed a place with options that meet his dietary restrictions. Downtown Kitchen is nice because they have a bunch of different food stations with a lot of food options. You order up your food, grab drinks and sides and then pay on the way out. You can eat in - they have a large open seating area with big windows looking out on downtown Milwaukee - or you can take your food to go. My friend got the veggie burger and I got the grilled portobello mushroom sandwich, which has boursin cheese on it. We waited a good bit for our food but they did make it fresh to order which is nice. Mine took a little longer than his which was a little inconvenient. All in all it was a convenient and relatively inexpensive option for a decent lunch with vegetarian choices. read more

Newly opened, upscale cafeteria. Large salad bar, lines for entrees, subs, made-to-order deli, sushi, daily import, etc. The food is quite good, one of the best corporate cafeterias I've found. I've eaten there daily since it opened. Everything is quite fresh, cafeteria is immaculate (despite heavy traffic each day at lunch.) Staff is very polite and pleasant. Decor in the eating area is trendy, very modern tables and chairs, LCD televisions all over the place. prices are quite reasonable, $5-$10 for your typical lunch. My dining has been limited to the salad bar, which had a huge variety of very fresh ingredients, and sushi, which unlike most cafeterias is made fresh there daily - Spicy crab & Wasabi crunch roles are excellent. read more

I've had the breakfast there about three or four times now. Each time I get it I'm disappointed but then apparently I forget how disappointed I was because a month or two later I try again. I figured this would be more expensive than Lake View and that's certainly held true. It's less food for more money. I don't really care to spend "going out to eat" prices on a cafeteria meal. Speaking of prices, I never really know what to expect. The order tickets are confusing and never seem to ring up like you'd expect. I literally saw one item that was one price on the order ticket and another price on the overhead menu. As to the quality of the food, those are not real eggs. I don't know what they are, but they aren't eggs. The breakfast sandwich was acceptable but mediocre. The $10 pancake, sausage and coffee was ok, but only comes with one syrup(I'm assuming as a cost saving method), so I was choking down dry cakes for the second half of my meal. Lake View Market was nothing special, and neither is the downtown kitchen. Slap the Bartolotta's name on it, and bump prices up by 20% seems to be their recipe for success, at least as far as the DK goes. I wouldn't really recommend going out of your way to eat there and don't really plan on it myself. Although I'm sure in another month or two, I'll forget my breakfast at home one day and venture down for another go. P.S. the staff is professional and courteous. read more

I'd characterize it as a high-end cafeteria, probably not worth going out of your way for like most Bartolatta restaurants, but certainly good enough for an everyday lunch. Food is good. Overpriced, but good. It is in my building so I have a tendency to eat there ~3 times a week. The thing that irked me recently is the fact that they are now charging $0.25 if you want to get a cup for water - even if you buy a $12 lunch... Granted you can get a free cup if you want a Dixie-sized one. I'll just take 3 of the free ones before I go sit down. I'm sure that will be the same price to them. That is the type of pettiness that will cause me to look elsewhere, especially now that summer is coming to I can walk outside easier. If you work in the US Bank building go else where! This place price guages the workers of the US Bank building on a consistent basis, they raise their prices monthly and you dont realize it until your up at the register. The world cuisine just rotates the same 2 things every other week, news flash not everyone is a big fan of curry! The food is average at best and combined with the 500% marked up prices its not worth it! 8.75 for a frozen TV dinner, $5 for a not even a laddle of soup. I am surprised they dont charge for napkins. This is a disgusting display of a Monopoly taking advantage of their customers. I for one will be boycotting this place as the portions are going down and the prices are going up all the time. First they start charging 25 cents for a cup after I spend at least $15 a day there and now they changed their breakfast menu from three pancakes and your choice of bacon or sausage for $4.95 to each pancake is $1.99 and you have to pay $2.75 for your choice of meat. Was next to the bread station located right next to the kitchen door. While looking through the window I saw one of the chef's put his bare fingers in some food and directly in his mouth to taste then walk off to whatever he was doing next. I brought this to the attention of woman walking past and she said they taste things with a spoon. I reiterated this was not a spoon but rather two fingers in the mouth..... DISGUSTING!!!! The woman that I told did bring this to the attention to the head chef and I was able to point out the man that did this but I feel I caught a glimpse of what really goes on in the back of the kitchen which I did not expect considering their "upscale" prices and representation of the Bartolotta name. read more

Okay, I have never ever posted a review on Yelp before now. I had to sign up today for an account because I have had the worst experiences with the food at the Downtown Kitchen. Today I had the Steakhouse Salad. The meat was sparse and two of the few pieces I did have on my salad were so tough that I could not even rip it apart. I paid $9.00 for this salad! This is not the first time I had bad food, I have had to return so much food or just throw out my lunch because it was inedible! Grilled chicken that was grey and hard as a rock. Soups that are way too salty, scrambled eggs that were so undercooked I could pour them out like liquid, disgusting, fish fry with the greasiest fish I have ever had, sub buns that are so thick and dry, the list goes on and on. It is often times very difficult to find a "Clean" table. Overall Bartolotta restaurants are bad in my opinion. The food quality is not there for the prices they are charging. Osgoods at the Mayfair collection, also is filthy! Tables are never clean and heaven forbid if you need to use the bathroom! I have seen cleaner ones in a gas station. Don't waste your money on Bartolatta's. Planning a wedding? Steer clear of any that use Bartolatta's for the catering! read more

I just ate at Northpoint Burgers. I have never eaten a Northpoint burger in my entire life. I now know why. My burger was slapped together by what appeared to be a couple of over dressed school cafeteria workers; complete with attitude. I do give them credit for their fast service as my order miraculously appeared before me in what had to be less than a minute. Which is amazing because at least 5 other customers had turned in there orders ahead of me.I knew I had made a mistake at that moment. But, out of some distorted since of obligation I picked the little coffin like box up anyway. And when I opened it, I realized why it was coffin like.Because inside was a damn mess of a hamburger. The bun was a soggy damn mess from whatever the liquid the "grilled" onions are allowed to marinate in until any hint of flavor or texture seizes to exist. And there was more soggy damn mess of a bun than flavorless burger. I was only able eat about half of that damn mess before I was overwhelmed with a desire to find a quiet private place where I could self induce vomiting. I will never again eat a Norhpoint anything. Or eat anywhere that can be described using the word cafeteria. read more
