Just all around great bagel shop, quick service and a small menu with only the basics. Sometimes you just want a great sandwich/bagel without it being complex, glad places like exist. Plus prices are more than fair. read more

I've been going to Downtown Bagel for years, and unfortunately the customer service has never been good. There's no greeting at all -- no good morning or good afternoon. Today I ordered three bagels: two with egg and bacon and one toasted with butter, along with a tea and an orange juice, which totaled close to $20. They forgot the toasted bagel with butter, so I had to place another order. When I asked if I had already been charged for it, the employee said he couldn't remember. I ended up paying close to $24, and I couldn't justify the total because I was not given a receipt when I paid. Prices aren't posted on the menu board, and with mistakes on the order, the cost is hard to justify. Very disappointing. read more

First time going into downtown bagel wasn't welcoming at all very bad service and very upset.

This place is amazing... when you get what you ordered. 9 out of 10 times there's something wrong with the order they give you the wrong protein, they put hot sauce or ketchup when you don't ask for it. They add butter so the bagel sandwich ends up being really greasy. This place used to be our favorite bagel place now it seems like they just give you whatever they want. read more

What can you say that hasn't already been. The only place for bagels and breakfast. If I could I would have the Taylor ham, egg and cheese on a bagel everyday. read more

Not sure whats going on but downtown is definitely going downtown! Maybe new owners and the new ones not taking the advice of the old ones. Maybe cutting corners while raising prices. what ever the logic they are getting worse every visit. Some new faces at the counter really are not doing a good job and should not be there. Sal and his old crew did a great job and everyone liked them. Fast and efficient. The elephant in the room is the bagels. Not sure who's the baker but not good. Not a real Bagel chef. Short cutting the process, potentially cheaper ingredients and the real problem no consistency. Whoever is running Downtown now should take heed and get the ship turned around quickly. Harry's rolling over in his grave with what they did to his Miracle Mile Bagel Shop. It was the real deal! If they don't act fast Downtown is going to be Out of Town. read more

The best bagels for many years! Quick service Nothing fancy as far as dining options but when your product is as good as theirs, it's speaks for itself read more

I've been here several times because of the reviews. But my experience has consistently been that their Bagels are hard as if stale, and what's with the attitudes? Like their doing you a favor! Very poor service. Slow and they seem to prioritize certain customers over others. Not sure what that's all about. It's like if you don't speak up they'll take someone else before you as you're reading the menu or watching what's going on behind the counter. They don't ask who's next or how can I help you! Forget a smile. The atmosphere is a bit run down and the place could also use a face lift. But I guess it reflects the people working there. These people really are "Downtown" way down! Definitely don't understand the four star rating! Absolutely not my experience. Good for those of you who can stomach this kind of experience routinely. read more

The service is fantastic and people are extremely friendly. I had a toasted everything with butter and it was excellent . I will definitely return as well as prices are very low. read more

OMG! The bacon egg and cheeses are beyond delectably deliciousness. They serve up the right amount of everything in the sandwich. The ready made coffee isn't the best brand but is always fresh and plentiful. These guys are great for a quick breakfast when in the area. They also have great specialty bagels and a variety of cream cheeses. All in all, they are worth the stop and are easy to navigate into from Dolson Avenue. read more

Was given meat on a sandwich that was specified to be vegetarian. Did not prioritize remaking the order and did not apologize for the inconvenience whatsoever. The remade sandwhich, upon further inspection had small pieces of bacon in it and smelled like bacon. Probably because the stove isn't cleaned or they just did not care at all. Feeling sick and disgusted. read more

Sausage egg and cheese on an everything bagel with ketchup and salt and pepper. Don't order anything else, it's not really worth it.

Good little bagel place. Line is usually out the door on the weekend. Coffee is decent.

I went in around 2pm for an onion bagel (not toasted) with lox fillet, cream cheese and onions...SO YUMMY AND FRESH. The bagels still taste as good as they would at 7am. Definitely the best of Middletown. Many years later and I still come! The BECSPK is amazing!!!!!!! read more

I've lived in Middletown all my life and have never been to downtown bagels until about 2 years ago. I used to work with someone who every Friday she used to go to downtown bagels and get herself breakfast and rave about the bagels... So finally I had to see for myself how good these bagels really were. They were SOOO good!!!! They make them right there on-site fresh every morning!!! You can't beat a fresh warm bagel right out of the oven!! read more

I started going here in middle school. I'm now almost 37, consistency is everything. Always fresh bagels, recipe hasn't changed. They are amazing and have the best tasting cream cheese around. You cannot get a better bagel/sandwich! Bagels are always fresh, egg salad is a must have - very good and fresh. Did I mention food Is always fresh? LOL these are the best bagels by far (even better than rockland bagels imo) Staff is always very nice and respectful, I would never go anywhere else!! Gil G., you review is stupid. Number 1. You ask for a hungry man special and you get mad because the special has no salt and pepper? You bring it back after 5 minutes and throw it at them? How old are you? You try dealing with people like you. 2. You say they are nice people but the workers suck? Man... get a life... read more

Delicious! Was able to place my order on the phone then pickup quick. Cash only but we'll worth it.

Best bagels and bacon egg and cheeses in Middletown! The bagels are super fresh and staff are friendly.

So I really really really love this place there food is absolutely amazing from there breakfast sandwiches to there cheesesteaks by far one of the best breakfast spots in the Hudson Valley. My only issue is when I walk in is the death stare I receive for the owner. Look i get so of my people are acting up due to the whole movement going on and yes how they are acting is absolutely awful given. I myself am ABSOLUTELY NOT part of that movement and extremely red and to the right and conservative. I served in the Marine Corp and am in Law Enforcement. So please friend don't assume I'm part of the left just because of my visual appearance. Other than that this place is spectacular. read more

Everytime I'm in town, this is a must stop to place!!! Great food and wonderful prices. Quick service so never long wait. Also the staff is kind and pleasant. Best bagels in town, I'll stand by that statement. One issue they only take cash, no credit or debit cards so that is annoying at times. However their bagels are worth it. read more

Decent bagel. Probably considered outrageous if you're not accustomed to places in the city. It's definitely one of the better bagel options for the area if you're having a craving. The staff is lovely, too, so that just makes it even more worth the while. read more

Earlier this week I tried Orange County Bagels and while doing the review, I noticed this place was very close. Today, hubby and I got toasted bagels with cream cheese, lettuce and tomato. I liked the bagel very much, it was crunchy on the outside and softer on the inside. The vibe of the place is very casual and it was more "welcoming" that the feel of OC Bagels down the street. The place was pretty busy with Saturday morning traffic but the flow of the line went pretty quick. If I was nearby and wanted a bagel, I would definitely return here for a quick bite. read more

I've been going here since I was old enough to eat a bagel. If you didn't go here Saturday morning after a night of drinking on Friday in HS you were doing it wrong. Now I'm old! These are the Freshest bagels! They should mail these to people who moved away to states that have crappy bagels! If I could eat one of these bagels every day for the rest of my life I would be happy, happy & fat! read more

This was great for a quick and tasty breakfast. I got ham, egg, and cheese on an onion bagel and my boyfriend got pastrami, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel. The everything bagel was a little salty for him, but he thinks he's in the minority with that opinion. Food came out quickly and was affordable too. Note it is cash only. Love the classic vibe inside with the wood paneling, cute wallpaper, and old letterboards. read more
