The owner is super friendly, charismatic and you can tell she truly enjoys the work she does. Dropped off 9 pairs of dress pants to be hemmed and taken-in @ the waist, and they were beautifully completed within 2 weeks! She even was kind enough to offer a discount since I had so many. I've had bridesmaid dresses and pants altered here and both turned out great! The turnaround was pretty quick in the wintertime during low season, but in the late spring/summer, things definitely pick up so I would recommend giving it at least 3-4 weeks to be safe (especially during prom season). I've also noticed that the prices may fluctuate depending on the season. It's definitely a bit pricey but the owner is very skilled and does a great job! Best alteration service in town. I've got alterations done from retailers like Ndtrm, high end boutique like SL or C... let me tell you, they f up my pants, blazer every single time. However, I found downtown alteration, they fixed all the issues. So ever since then, I'm always willing to pay it here to get my pants and blazers altered rather than get the complimentary alteration they offer from the retailers or luxury boutiques. I needed a a suit for work, found a really good deal online but when I received it the sizing and style was horrible. I couldn't return it, so I was upset that I ended up wasting money. I've been to many many alterations shops. I'm also plagued with being sort of short but also curvy, so I pretty much have to buy something that fits my boobs or hips and then get it taken in at the waist and hemmed up. Every other Alterations place has had that feeling of being a little rude, trying to rush you out. That's not true here. She's always very welcoming, and I've met some really nice customers as well. I've had a choir dress, maxi skirt and a bridesmaid dress done here, and they were all done perfectly. The choir dress had to totally be redone as I had to get a size 18 (!!!!) and I was an 8 everywhere but the boobs. Also, this shop is convenient with lots of parking and small changing rooms. Pax is awesome. I am a size 4 but am well endowed, so it is hard for me to buy jackets and have them look fitted without having the buttons pop open in the front. Pax did a great job with my jacket and made them look like they were tailored just for me. She is amazing! The only thing is this place does not take credit cards... Cash or Cheques only. The final alteration job was good to go, its the process that makes this lose stars. I dropped off two items to be altered with a weeks notice that I needed the dress. It has a side zipper which she said is more complicated (totally agree) so it'd be a bigger job which = take longer and more $. But she said she had plenty of time (a week is plenty of time). I come in on the day to pickup at the end of the day and see my stuff still hanging up with the chalk marks on it, not even touched yet. I had to leave to catch a boat an hour later. She exclaimed, "oh thats today?!?!" and said she could do it in an hour. I gave her that hour and yes, the job did get done. But if it was such a big and complicated job that took extra time AND money, why could she bust it out in an hour when she had an entire week and charged me more for it? Not too happy about that. But yes, the alterations are good and fit me quite well so I won't complitely lower her average on stars. read more

I took some long sleeved shirts in to make them cute short sleeves. I showed her pictures of the type of sleeve I wanted and the results were absolutely perfect. Also took long pants to be cropped ankle pants and they too were perfect. I like to buy certain pieces that aren't exactly what I wanted but have the ideas in my head to make them perfect and this is the place. sometimes i question my mother's parenting . . . especially considering she knew from the time i was 2 that i was going to be super short (4' 10 1/2" to be exact) and she did NOT teach me how to hem my own pants. . . nor did she suggest i take a home economics course to learn how to hem my own pants. she did suggest, however, that i take a typing class, and i thank her for that . . . but i digress . . . that said, i spend almost as much money on alterations as i do on the clothes themselves. throughout my adult life, i have searched high and low for the perfect seamstress to help with this little issue (no pun intended) . . .and i finally found it with Paz and her little alterations shop! Paz is so awesome! the prices are reasonable, and she always does a stellar job! her turn around time is super quick if you need it - and even if you don't need your clothes back fast, she'll still have them done within a day or two. so far i've taken maybe a dozen pairs of pants/jeans to her and a couple of skirts and dresses - and everything has turned out absolutely perfect. the prices have ranged from $16 for a pair of jeans to $40 for a slightly complicated bridesmaid dress. I needed some patches sewed onto my gi for jiu jitsu. I usually am able to do this myself but since there were soo many, and i wanted it done sooner, I took it here. It was a little pricey but she came through for me on time. If she didn't charge as much for just sewing on some patches, I would return for more work like this. THE BEST ! I came to Downtown Alteration in a pinch, needing a prom dress altered in 4 days. After calling several stores Downtown Alteration was the only place up for the task. I used Downtown Alterations and Paz in the past. I was very unhappy with the quality of sewing and the service. She was also very expensive and spoke very little English. I found it difficult to explain what I needed to have done. The sewing was poor, the seems were crooked, the stiching was crooked. It was a mess! I had to have it all redone.
