Two days ago, I ordered a string trimmer from Ace Hardware online for pickup at the Downtown store in Fort Collins. According to my order, the trimmer was on sale for on sale for $139.99. I received an order confirmation email from Ace. I called the store today to see if I could pick up the trimmer tomorrow and was told that their computer said not to fulfill the order. The rep suggested that I place the order again. I tried repeatedly to log in to Ace's website and even tried to order the trimmer as a guest, but the website was dysfunctional. So I found a similar trimmer at Lowes for $153 and ordered it there. I figured it was worth $13 to me to buy a trimmer without all the hassle I had to go through with Ace. read more

Downtown Ace Hardware sets the benchmark for hardware stores. They have many hard to find items, and will readily search and order specialty items if needed. The are abundantly staffed, and the employees are knowledgeable and and always very helpful. The quality of the products they offer is often higher than what I find at the big box stores; and I'd rather buy something which will work well and last a long time than buy multiple iterations of lower quality products. Decided to make it a day to spread some love. Downtown Ace is wonderful for many reasons! 1. The manager has always been wonderful in supporting girl scouts! He has been easy for the girls to work with in setting up booths there. 2. the staff is always super warm, welcoming and friendly! 3. local store! Great variety and selections! 4. Love the river tubes they get in the summer! Have purchased several! 5. the store is bigger than you may think! they have a really great selection inside! 6. they also have supported eagle scout projects which is great that they are willing to give back to the community like that. My son did an eagle project of rebuilding a bridge in lory state park. They gave him some supplies to go to that project and I know that they had given some supplies to other boys in his troop projects as well. Why would you want to go to a big brand hardware store when you have such a great local hardware store?!? Every time I come here I wonder why I ever go to the other stores, which I won't name...but their initials are...Home Depot and Lowes. The service here is great! The products are great! I always find what I need at a good price and they are always happy to order out for whatever I need. I don't see a good reason to go anywhere else. I have had such a great experience here each time I come. It feels good to shop local anyway and they are always so helpful in finding what I need. Great place! read more

I have shopped here several times over the past few weeks as I just moved and needed a variety of items. I spent over $800 between these visits and have repeatedly been surprised by how uncomfortable the staff is to interact with. They followed me around asking me if I need help like they're suspicious of me. When I needed to return an item(unused and still packaged) I was treated with suspicion as well. This place will tow your car! DO NOT PARK HERE ! I came in yesterday- went next door to look at a second hand shop and with in 20 mins my car was towed ! Money hungry. I was so shocked and such an inconvenience to my family to have to pay $255 to get my car out of some boot-leg tow shop that didn't even have an office. We spend thousands there but no more. Came in and walked around like we do and it felt like we were being cased and watched. I then heard employees talking about who was parking in the back. I guess they were trying to see who was there for ACE and who was using parking only. I get it but we have gone shopping there them ran next door to grab dinner. First and foremost, this particular Ace hardware cuts and can program auto keys which is a huge win is far as convenience goes. Of course they don't carry the big heavy construction type items which is why they get overlooked for the big box stores, their wide selection of general hardware and excellent customer service should not be overlooked. read more

I am so saddened by the way my husband was treated at this store. We shop here almost exclusively to support local business however recently after getting cash from the bank in King Super my husband (disables bet) was notified by the checker that the $20 he gave her was counterfeit and her manager needed to talk to him. He paid by credit card (we have an active account in their system) and proceeded to the managers office where the manager accused him of trying "pass off" counterfeit $ to their store. He was appalled as he explained why would he pay with credit card using his name if he was trying to do that and that he was the victim of the bank not checking the money and would have to deal with that. My husband was so embarrassed by this managers accusations and told him that he would never shop in their f'ing store again and left. A couple hours later the police show up at our home and the officer said they had to come out because the manager had called informing them that my husband was passing counterfeit money to them intentionally. The office was gracious and apologized for even having to come out as it was obvious with our almost daily purchases as we worked on a project that this was the manager being vengeful. He even offered to give us his name to file a complaint. We declined as this is the best complaint we can file. My husband has fought for our country and is severely wounded. He loves local stores and just wanted to support them. It is appalling that he would be treated this way. Thankfully the Fort Collins police were gracious and even apologetic with this. This might be a weird thing to say but, I love this hard wear store. Every Time I'm in Fort Collins I come here. If I'm not looking for anything specific, I just like to browse. They have really fun gifts. Great stuff for your house and wine. And really cool Colorado specific items. Today, I got new copper mugs for my Moscow Mule's! Also, every single employee is so pleasant. It seems like they actually like their jobs. And they're always willing to help. As an extra bonus, they serve have free popcorn! Yep, it's only a hardware store, but this place totally gets it. Superlative service, positive energy in abundance, knowledgeable staff. Huge store has everything you need for your home or property. Two floors, loved the original flooring on the main level that added even more character to the visit. Fun household items also, someone has a sense of humor on their staff. We have been going to Downtown Ace Hardware for 16 years. We parked in their lot and wanted to grab a coffee before going in and looking at paint, which we were planning to purchase there. We got what we needed and left- only to find that they put a tow notice on our car. I went in to ask about it and the manager said, "you walked away, and I don't know you." Wow... we don't go in there every day, and yet, we are regulars. You watched us walk away, but you never noticed us in your store? No one asked us for help that day. We will not be buying $500-1000 in paint there. Parking is an issue in downtown. We all know that. Giving your customers the benefit of the doubt is something that can't be taken away. You will drive customers like us away by threatening to tow them. We are very upset with how we were treated. We can get your products anywhere. This is the bee's knees of harware stores. The workers always seem excited to help customers. If the worker you're with doesn't know the answer to a question they are all connected by headset to one another. The store is smaller than a megabox store, mostly because it doesn't carry the extras (lumber, appliances, fixtures, etc...) but the store does have everything you'll need to fix a basic problem. The store gets extra credit in my opinion beacause if they don't have an item, they'll refer you to a competitor that does. read more

This Ace seems to have it all! They have your basic stuff that hardware stores have but they also have a very nice home decor section too! Downstairs there is furniture everywhere that you can buy! Ace is the Helpful Place. This trademark slogan holds up at the downtown Fort Collins Ace Hardware. Every time I have gone in there I have not only found what I needed but got a handful of useful tips as well. Most everyone has been helpful if not a bit annoyingly friendly. Their home section has great nick-knack gifts that have been perfect presents for Mom/Dad/Grandma. I have used their key counter often and I have yet to have a dud key made (better than other Ace's I have been to). One complaint I have is their flower selection over this summer, I went in a couple times to try and find potted flowers for friends and most of the selection was pretty wilted or smashed. Overall not a big deal, I went to the home section and got some other cutesie gift instead. Downstairs is the patio store and if you go at the right time of the year you can snag some pretty good deals. Overall a convenient store with a lot of helpful people who are more than willing to provide 10 answers for 1 question. Keep up the good work! read more

He just would not leave me alone, despite my saying five times that I was fine and did not need any help. So I went to Clay's Ace where I found a better/cheaper deal on the Shop Vac I wanted. Many compliment the customer service provided here. I have a different story regarding the Bissel carpet cleaners that are rented here. M, an employee, carefully explained how to operate the cleaner and showed me what needed to be done prior to returning it. So far so good. I follow the instructions and at first the carpet looks better. Then I notice that the cleaner is leaving grey streaks. More passes and more streaks. I took the cleaner outside and examined the brushes underneath. The problem was evident immediately. Brushes rotate inside a plastic housing which after many uses had become filled with a grey sludge that continually leaked and streaked my carpet. I took it upon myself to remove the brushes and clean the housing as I was in a bind. After that it worked fine. But it took a lot longer than expected. Here is the customer service angle. Upon return, I explain all this to another store employee. The best he could do for me was "sorry". Well I am sorry I can't recommend Downtown Ace Hardware. read more
