The ambiance and atmosphere are really nice at this restaurant. They have a really cool bar and serve up some very good drinks. They have outdoor seating, which is really nice on a cool day. The food is good but not great. I've tried several items, and they could have been better. Just simple dishes that lacked a little flavor read more

I really enjoyed dining at Down On Grayson. We visited on a Monday night in early April, and the weather was PERFECT for dining outside. The decor is trendy, and the atmosphere was very chill. This place is a perfect fit for the Pearl district. The crispy brussel sprouts were spectacular. The sprouts were unusually large, and probably because everything is bigger in Texas. These sprouts were like miniature heads of cabbage, and each was at least four bites. The crispy prep was excellent and the spouts had some char from the grill. They are served with a wonderful Srirachi mayo dipping sauce. I love this dish, and think you should order it. For my entree I ordered the Fire Roasted Chicken. The breast was huge, and again because everything is bigger in Texas. The chicken was slow roasted so it was cooked throughly, but still moist and tender. I wish I could do that; I would have overcooked the outside and the inside would be undercooked. The chicken was marinated and finished with a honey lime glaze that was excellent. It was slightly sweet and had a spicy kick. The side of off-the-corn on the cob was yummy. I would definitely recommend this dish. I ordered a Michelada drink from the bar menu. It looks like a Bloody Mary, but it's not. It is a Mexican cocktail that is made with tomato juice, beer, and lime. The combination sound very usual to me, but noticed it at Market Square and was intrigued. I didn't care for it, but it cured my curiosity. read more

Down On Grayson - Margarita and another Fruit cocktail - New American Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

This place is amazing! Came here with my sister for some appetizers and we are so happy we did! We tried the Double Dip and Shishito Peppers. The double dip was soooo good, who doesn't love chips and dip?! We were expecting the jalapeño pimento cheese to be warm and cheesy, but it was cold..and still surprisingly delicious. The guacamole was creamy with a few chunks, definitely recommend if you're a guac snob. The shishito peppers came with Sriracha Mayo, which was FIRE. So delicious! Make sure to add a little bit of salt to the peppers, definitely brings out the best flavors. We loved the apps so much that we also ended up sharing the Fish Tacos. Loved that there was an even ratio of everything in the taco and the fish was grilled. Will be going back to try more! read more

If you enjoy good food and great service with great quality food . Any thing you eat is good, do enjoy .

Parking: Plenty of Parking! Service: When we went in, we were able to get a table by the bar so that was fast & convenient! Food: The food was ehh... I thought it was going to be great but it wasn't. We got the parmesan fries which were super greasy... The plate was filled with oil/grease. Like completely soaked in it. Then, I ordered a steak and it was well done & hard with Broccoli that wasn't cooked... it was hard and raw. I like semi-raw but not raw where it was so hard that I couldn't bite into it. The drink I ordered was a BlackBerry cocktail. It was strong but good. The coffee I ordered was delicious. The chicken tortilla soup was delicious. My husband said his French dip sub sandwich was pretty good. Ambience was nice. I really wanted to sit outside with the bonfire but I guess that was just for drinks and relaxing... Overall, I guess I expected more cause of the reviews. Maybe they just had a bad night but it was just alright to me. Maybe if you just go for drinks, it's the place to go chill. read more

Let me start by saying we typically love this place. This visit was average at best. I'm giving it 4 based on past experiences. The wife had the grouper sandwich which is always solid. I had the fried chicken which I know is a tough dish for a restaurant that doesn't specialize in fried chicken on account of chicken can't be fried to order since it takes so long to cook. That being said, it was really dry and the crust was really hard from sitting under a heat lamp I assume. Had I been lucky enough to get it shortly after coming out of the fryer it would've been outstanding because the flavor of the crust was spot on. This service was great and you can't find a bad place to sit in this establishment from the bar with big screens to watch the game , inside or outside. It's got great atmosphere . read more

The food here is great, and I've been here a few times. What became problematic was that their A/C is broken in the section where I was seated. I didn't know this. It was unbearably hot, but I did try to brave it out, ultimately too uncomfortable, and couldn't eat my food. I just thought that was the temperature across the restaurant.. When I saw other guests come in, the hosts mentioned the A/C was broken in my section and proceeded to seat them elsewhere. That bothered me some, as I wasn't offered the same accommodation. I ultimately asked for management and mentioned this. They agreed to comp my meal and offered that I also take my leftovers, but I wasn't feeling well after sitting in the heat. Pictured here is all the food left behind. read more

Down On Grayson - Crispy Brussels Frozen of the Day Panini - New American Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

Well, we finally made it to Down on Grayson! Probably won't be back, but never mind that. Ironically enough we were down at the Pearl for a Yelp event and decided to stop into DoG for lunch. The atmosphere is cute with a clean aesthetic. It's made for chilling with friends and people-watching as it overlooks the walkway to the Historic Pearl. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and had a wait of less than five minutes before we were seated at an outdoor picnic table. Both of my stars were for everything mentioned up to this point. The rest of our visit was filled with bland, cold food and an indifferent server named Ty. When he arrived he seemed interested enough. He dropped off silverware and disappeared to grab us waters. Ten minutes later he came back with the waters and we downloaded our order onto him knowing we had only a couple of hours for lunch. Once he left we realized he didn't drop off straws. We waited, but he never resurfaced, so my husband just went and grabbed them himself. We ordered the crispy brussels sprouts with spicy mayo as a starter. Our mains were the crispy chicken sandwich with a side of parm fries (which was an upcharge) and the reuben. Our Brussels came out surprisingly fast, like, in less than 5 minutes. As someone who's worked in kitchens for more than half of my life, I know there was no way that this was our order, but I took it because it was still hot, so, no harm done. The brussels were too big to be considered appropriate for an appetizer. The bigger they grow on the stalk, obviously, the less bite-size and tougher they become. Trying to bite into a big ol' sprout isn't cute, or appetizing. They were also overcooked, bordering on burnt, which gave them an acrid flavor. I gave up after the second one. When we asked for more water, Ty returned with a bottle and damn near deposited it in my husband's lap. We actually joked about how he may as well have poured it on us, he was so haphazard in the way he plopped it on the edge of our table, nearly dropping it on my husband. A runner dropped off our dishes. When I tell you Ty was nowhere to be seen, I kid you not. My bland chicken sandwich came with a pitiful amount of spicy slaw. So little, in fact, it shouldn't have been listed with the dish. It seems as though it was just an afterthought. My husband said his reuben was very tasty. Both of our fries were stone cold, though. We waited for 10 minutes for Ty to return to correct the cold fries, but when I made eye contact with a woman bussing a table I asked if she could help us out. By now we're nearly through our meals and I remarked that there's no point in even asking for new fries. Ty decided to make an appearance and said "he" was getting those fries. "He" hadn't done anything, though, and still wasn't. We were finished with our food: plates bussed and everything, and still no fries. We told him not to even bother bringing them. Instead, we asked for the check. The lady from earlier brought the fries out 5 minutes later and asked if we wanted them boxed. We told her no because then they'd end up cold which was why we sent them back to begin with. It took Ty another 10 minutes to bring our check and guess what was on there? The upcharged cold fries that we never ate. Another 5 minutes waiting for him to correct it. Another 5 minutes waiting for him to return after dropping off the corrected bill. Now, we were beyond frustrated. My husband went back to the hostess to get her to ring us out so we could make it back to our respective meetings on time. I can't fathom how this place gets the rave reviews I see here. Bland, nearly burned, yet cold, food, pitiful portions, and lackadaisical service. I'm not down with Grayson. read more

The good: the food here never ever disappoints! Amazing environment with outdoor seating. Outdoor seating has umbrellas with mist blowing fans which is perfect for the Texas heat. The food is absolutely delicious. From the kale chicken salad to the sandwich's and exquisite fries. No matter what you try you will not be disappointed. The drinks are unique and perfectly refreshing. The bad: I don't live close enough to eat this more often. The ugly: absolutely nothing.... Pros - Great big food portions (you'll probably bring leftovers home!) - Reasonable prices for an entree ($10-15) - Organized and clear menu (but no pictures!) - Service was great! We had a large party and they took our orders in an efficient manner and the food all came out at the same time! - The restroom and interior was well kept and clean - They offer indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor area is super cute with lights and misty sprays to cool you off during a hot afternoon/evening - The reuben sandwich was delicious! It had just enough sauerkraut and meat! Cons - The fries that come with the burgers and sandwiches are a little too salty for my liking, but they are perfectly crispy! - A friend ordered a veggie sandwich and added chicken (additional $4), but the sandwich had a tiny piece of chicken and waaaaay too much feta cheese! - I like that they have small pitchers of water for us at the table, but they were small. So they could really only fill 1.5 glasses of water...which was a little awkward because there were 3 of us sharing one pitcher so we each could only fill our cups halfway Overall, I left this place full and satisfied! I'd definitely come back again for a decent priced meal and great service. read more

I had saved this place since they are dig friendly and the menu looked very tempting. I visited because it is one of my cousin's favorite eateries in the Pearl District. We shared the crispy brussel sprouts appetizer and I had the panini with parmesan fries. The brussel sprouts were the star of the show. Throughout the meal I kept trying to discern what the cooking method could have been to have each brussel sprout so wonderfully crispy on the outside and yet tender on the inside. It occurred to me that maybe they're first deep fried and then finished under the broiler? I'm not sure but they were mind blowingly good. The panini was also quite wonderful. But I admit the parmesan French fries were not what I expected. I was expecting the parmesan to be tossed into the fries so they were nicely distributed and you get a bit of parmesan with every fry. Instead the parmesan is sprinkled on top. And it is shredded parmesan rather than finely grated. It just did not come together the way I was expecting and I was a bit disappointed. But this place is clearly a great venue for large get togethers. There were a number of people celebrating graduations when we visitied. Plus it'd be a just a cool place to hang out and watch the game at the bar or sit outside on the patio with your fur baby. I'll definitely be back. read more

Great food. Cool vibe. Strawberry cake is really big and really good. Best to share it. I recommend this establishment.

We had a lovely Thursday supper with my parents. Lily was our server, she was on top of it. The best thing about Lily, was that she was so engaged. She gave us menu recommendations & little stories to go along with everything. It wasn't too loud inside, we were able to have a conversation, unlike other restaurants. The food was great & OMG the desserts! We went back a couple days later to pick up dessert, for Saturday supper at home. read more

My 4th visit and was not at all pleased with my meal and mediocre service. $18.00 for a French Dip that doesn't include cheese was a bit strange. I was charged almost $2.00 for a slice of cheese that wasn't even melted. The sandwich itself was cold and the bread was extremely soggy I had to eat it with a fork. The server disappeared so much that the wait to order something else would have been too long. My friends ordered fish tacos but the tortillas were drenched so they also couldn't pick them up to eat them properly. The best thing were the Parmesan garlic fries and the frozen sangria. Needless to say, I won't be returning. read more

We had a fabulous time dining at Down on Grayson for lunch. We got there right when it opened at 11 AM so we were immediately seated inside which is what we requested for only because it was a chilly morning. We decided on the crispy Brussel Sprouts served with the sriracha mayo. Loved the crunch on the sprouts. For our main meals, my friends went with the club, panini and tortilla soup whereas I decided on the fire roasted chicken. We all enjoyed our selections and I must say that the chicken was roasted to perfection. It was incredibly moist. All together, I'd say the meals were great and the service was good. We had to call on our waiter for our refills. No big deal, I'm totally aware that some restaurants are struggling with staffing. Not saying this was the problem but there's definitely tolerance on my end. Check this place out and make it a point to dine outside if the opportunity presents itself. read more

Didn't take any photos of what we got, but I loved it here!! Definitely a great spot to have multiple options for food with a bigger group and very reasonably priced. I got the salad that had the steak on top and when I asked the server to describe what it tasted like he explained then offered to have it on the side just in case. That was very helpful to me! Drinks were delicious and the drink of the day when we went was the Moscow mule slushee. It tasted good and actually had a good amount of alcohol too! read more

NEVER AGAIN!! I used to love to go to this restaurant, it was actually my favorite, but after tonight's events I will NEVER go back. The manager was so unprofessional, rude, and was bullying me and my party. He walked up to a person in my party and started telling him negative things because he was mad at our table. I have never been treated like that, and from a manager of all people??? RIDICULOUS! If I could rate no stars I would because of how appalling that experience was. On a Sunday the wait was 2 hours long and they definitely made us wait the full two hours. The service was good but it was so busy that our server would forget a lot of things. At the end he overcharged me for something that didn't belong to my ticket instead it belonged one of my other friends ticket but you could tell it bothered him to remove it so I just kept it. **COVID-19 ALERT Y'ALL** I sat there and literally saw 4 tables be turned without the use of sanitizer. The buser used his hand to dust away the crumbs and then the host sat a new table. I tried to be discreet. I brought it up to my server. He did the right thing and informed his manager. The manager came out and talked to me...and I pointed out 1 empty table that had not been sanitized. Was it sanitized before it was sat? NO! The manager came out to the floor 15 minutes later to see if I was still there and had someone come sanitize the most recent table (they left after my complaint). K...that was bad. Sanitizing was a standard pre-pandemic....but the worstest part was when I was leaving, I said to the host, "i hope to see you soon". The hostess was aware of my complaint. She said in response "we hope we dont see you soon." K. Bye. Never ever ever again. I swore not to post bad reviews during the pandemic but feel obligated out of a sense of public safety, especially after that snide remark. They obviously do not care. FOR YOUR HEALTH AND OTHERS, DO NOT EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT UNTIL THE PANDEMIC IS OVER. They not only ignore COVID-19 measures, they ignore normal health precautions...and get offended by a discreet comment. Ps. The food also wasn't good...but that's an afterthought. read more
