My son went in, got measured for polo boots, and ordered a pair Jan 10th. March 12th we called the manufacturer to see what the status was. They could not locate our order, nor the store we ordered from. We called this store, they looked my son up and told us he bought boots and walked out with them that day. Uh, No. We explained he was measured, they dont sell in house what he ordered. I was then told they take 12+ weeks. I know this, then explained that we've already chatted with the manufacturer. They told they'd call us back today, I gave my name and number and specific instructions to call me, not my son and they agreed. No call, but they did call my son to tell him they were crediting his card back. No explanation, no Im sorry, nothing. I called them, Susan picked up the phone. Rude and abrupt she said she already talked to my son and is crediting him, I couldn't get a word in and she hung up. Ordered boots Jan 10, March 12th and he wont have his first pair of hard earned boots for his first polo tournament. No reason, no record of the order, no apology. just now New I visited this place for the first time and had a positive experience, but the second time was a bit different. I received assistance from an older woman who came off as quite condescending. She inquired about how long I've had my horse and how long I've been riding, then suggested that many women my age often get horses due to a midlife crisis. She was very snarky and She seemed rather unhappy, and I even caught her discussing her personal life with other customers, which felt unprofessional. Overall, it was an uncomfortable situation, and I'm not likely to return. read more

First time in Dover, I came in to exchange a pair of tall boots I ordered online that didn't fit me well. The staff was incredibly helpful in finding a pair of new boots that fit me and my budget. It's definitely tempting not to buy everything in the store I now can't wait to go back! read more

We're lucky to have a Dover Saddlery in Dallas. If you're going to the store to see something you saw online or in the catalog you might want to call first because they don't always have everything in stock. Also...treats and horse care products are usually cheaper at Tractor Supply, Dennard's or Paul Taylor. But if you don't have any of those near you or where you ride then Dover is a great place to get all you need. read more

Came in with the intention of trying to find a pair of new show boots after my trunk was stolen at nationals. The staff was less than helpful. I came in wearing my riding clothes as I had just finished having my lessons for the day. It took 25 minutes to get anyone to help me. Once I did, it was not exactly helpful. She brought out a few pairs and really seemed more put off that I wasn't finding my boot. She came back explaining how unless I would like to drop $799, I was out of luck. I explained that was fine, I need boots and if I get out with only spending $799 on something I will need for a long time-- great. She came back with a note about my sizing and a brand that Dover doesn't carry. I'm 5 ft, 110 ibs, I have 5 horses in the Arabian industry -- based here in DFW. You'd think being helped a bit more than "you don't have X to spend and go somewhere else" would be expected. As someone who is already traumatized about having her trunk-- with $10,000 worth of gear and clothing in it-- it would have been a really nice time to come out of there with a nicer story about the only tack- /gear store in Dallas. Extremely disappointed. Staff was not welcoming and was very "take it or leave it" with their attitudes. Very annoying. read more

Have been in several times, service was great the first few times. Last visit there were three people standing at the cashier stand and not one acknowledged my daughter and I. Noted - then two other visitors walk in and are greeted and asked if they needed assistance. Ownership/Management should be cognizant of the inadequate service. The store and initial set up looks fine. But the employee helping my daughter asked me to move away from him because it "reminds him of his brothers looming over him"? Staff is friendly and helpful. Whether it's finding the right equipment for my horse or buying products for treating abscesses, I've been treated very well. Some products/clothing are overpriced and cheaper to get online, but the benefit of being able to try the clothing on, assess fit, and walking right out with it is worth it. Also, they are very good with returns, which is great for those of us with horses that don't always fall into perfect sizes. If it weren't for pricing I'd give it five stars. Customer service is excellent at this tack shop. Everyone working there is very knowledgeable and helpful. Excellent selection of items. My only gripe is that they are consistently out of stock in my sizes and while they DO offer to order it for you from their website, I come into the store with the intention of trying things on and walking out with items in hand. Otherwise, I would've saved myself the trip and just order at home! All in all, I will no doubt visit again as it is convenient to have such a large selection of apparel, footwear, and helmets to try on. read more

I used to love shopping here. The staff was friendly, extremely knowledgeable and if you were uncertain what product (e.g. which type of bit or what saddle pad) would be most effective they took the time to inform you about your choices, offer pros/cons based on first hand experience and help you decide. Sadly, this has changed. In recent months I've gone in looking for a specific item, any questions I had were met with a combination of annoyance, condescension and snark. The staff only engaged me when they wanted to sell me a $150 saddle pad (not the brand I was looking for) and then refused to let me browse for something else in peace, even after I thanked her and said I'd like to shop on my own. The associate stood behind me and just kept repeating: "We don't carry that [brand], we carry this [brand]." Literally over and over like a skipping CD, it was very odd. I felt harassed and left the store and found the exact saddle pad I was looking for on eBay for about 1/2 the price of what was offered at Dover. A few weeks later I stopped in to pick up fly spray and saddle soap and as I shopped I heard an adult female sales person gossiping about customers who had just left the store to other customers. Then, during that same visit, as I was checking out another associate asked a customer she was ringing up a conversational question about her horse and the customer chatted a bit, as horsey folks are wont to do, then when the customer left, the associate openly disparaged the customer for talking about her horse! It was very nasty "mean girl" behavior that was made even more unattractive when done by 50 year old women. Even though it wasn't done to me directly, it was still an awful experience. Unfortunately, over the last year,these are not the only times I've seen associates at Dover seem to "forget" they're at work and behave less than professionally, or even courteously, for that matter. Several of my friends who shop there have told me they've seen the same unpleasant behavior as well. This Dover store is the only English tack shop in the area, so it's just something that English riders are going to have to put up with. But I want the manager there to know that the inappropriate behavior and poor quality of service has not gone unnoticed by the members of the horse community. I am going to avoid shopping there whenever possible and order from other stores online or at the ranch supply stores from now on. Their prices are far more competitive as well. read more

Dover has no competition in DFW that I am aware of. I haven't shopped here in a long time, but I'm planning a trip soon. They are the only English shop in town and have pretty much everything you are looking for. read more

Dover is great to shop online. A friend and I made the trip to the store so that I could try on different brands of boots. Unfortunately, even though they had a big selection of brands on display, they didn't have many of the boots in different sizes. Disappointing and, I thought, not worth the trip. I'd be better off ordering from SmartPak (free shipping) and trying boots on in my living room. Also disappointing was their advertised "sale" over Labor Day weekend. There were a few specific items on sale (we say maybe half a dozen separate items), but nothing like you'd expect from an advertised sale. Truly disappointing. If you want Dover stuff, just wait for the sale catalog in the mail. read more
