I waited about a month to write…read morethis review because I wanted to see how the cut would grow out--and I'm still in love with my bob. I hadn't had a haircut in almost a year, so my hair definitely needed some help. James took the time to look at my hair, shared what he noticed, and gave me his recommendations before getting started. I came in with an idea of what I wanted, but somehow the final cut was even better than what I had envisioned. A month later, it still looks so good. I barely have to style it and it naturally feels voluminous, bouncy, and healthy. To me, that's the sign of a really great haircut. And beyond being incredibly talented, James is just such a joyful person to be around. I honestly don't think I've ever laughed that much with someone I had just met. He made the whole hour fly by. Also I loved his studio, it's located inside of Solas Salons and his studio was just elegantly decorated and designed. So happy I found James at Studio Van Le. Definitely recommend him, and I'll absolutely be back!

He knew exactly how to cut and style it to disguise the thinning, and I left feeling so much more confident. Beyond his incredible talent, James is genuinely one of the funniest, most positive people you'll meet. From the moment you walk into his salon, he welcomes you with open arms, and you leave feeling even better than when you arrived. I've been to some of the top salons in San Francisco, and James is, by far, the best hairstylist I've ever seen. He's meticulous, incredibly skilled, and you can truly tell he loves what he does. I rarely leave reviews, and I'm extremely picky about my hair. I'm the type of person who goes home, checks every angle in the mirror, makes sure every piece falls perfectly, and notices if the length is even slightly off. James absolutely nailed it. If you're looking for a hairstylist who is talented, thoughtful, and genuinely cares about his clients, go see James. He'll make you look amazing and he'll probably make your day a whole lot better,

I called and set up an appointment. They said I would see Johnny. I went in and he was so fast and professional. I had him touch up my roots, highlights, tone my hair and trim it. I LOVED my hair when it was done. He did a better job of matching my natural hair color than my old stylist. He is very friendly but also does not talk you ear off which I love. If I want to talk to him I can, or I can sit in pleasant silence. The salon itself is really nice and clean and everyone is really friendly. It's not too loud. I like the cool decor. I started using the Aveda products they sell and I am hooked on them. All my hair products are Aveda now! I wanted to share my experience mainly so other parents are aware of the pricing before booking. I…read morebrought my 11-year-old daughter in for a haircut and was honestly shocked by how expensive the final cost was. Her haircut was $80, and because her hair is curly, I was charged an additional $65 just for the blow-dry, bringing her total to $145 for a child's haircut and blow-dry. My own haircut and blowout were $100, so I was especially surprised that my daughter's service ended up costing $45 more than mine. I understand that curly hair may require additional time, but I feel that a $65 additional charge should have been clearly communicated beforehand, especially when it brings an 11-year-old's haircut to nearly $150. The salon explained the pricing to me afterward, but I really wish the full cost had been explained before the service was performed. Parents should definitely ask for the complete price, including the blow-dry, before agreeing to the service so there are no surprises at checkout. Unfortunately, because of the pricing and lack of upfront communication about the additional charge, I cannot see myself returning to this salon.

At one point my hair was overly damaged from another salon (think bleach, damaged hair and lots of broken strands) and he was honest about how long it would take to trim and grow it back to my waist again. It took several years, but it's back to where it was. All thanks to patience and Pang listening to what I wanted in the end. He's always on-time. I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes if he's wrapping up another client, etc. First part of the appt is going over what I want to achieve. Then hair wash. Cut. Blow dry and style. He's straight to the point and there's no chit chatting. I'm usually out of there within an hour or so. There's no bathroom available, so make sure you get your business done before your appt. If you need to go, there's Starbucks across the street. As for parking, there's plenty of metered parking. But if you're not sure how long you'll be there, there's 2 hour free parking across the street from El Camino. The salon itself is hidden and on the 2nd floor. I believe the stairs was next to Taishoken. If you see Suruki Market, you went to far. He also only takes cash or venmo.
