I desperately needed a new hair salon. I chose Fringe for no other reason than it is within walking distance from my home. I had no idea if I would like it or not. I called and set up an appointment. They said I would see Johnny. I went in and he was so fast and professional. I had him touch up my roots, highlights, tone my hair and trim it. I LOVED my hair when it was done. He did a better job of matching my natural hair color than my old stylist. He is very friendly but also does not talk you ear off which I love. If I want to talk to him I can, or I can sit in pleasant silence. The salon itself is really nice and clean and everyone is really friendly. It's not too loud. I like the cool decor. I started using the Aveda products they sell and I am hooked on them. All my hair products are Aveda now! I went to Fringe a couple of months ago, for a haircut. I had a girl who's last name was Patel. I do not think that there was ever a time, that I have gotten a hair cut, and not felt pretty good leaving a shop. I left that shop embarrassed. It looked like I just got out of the shower. She just trimmed the bottom. There was no layer, no style. She dried it straight down. When I asked her if she could dry it with a little wave in the front, she told me that I had not paid for styling. This was a $100 haircut! When I asked her about product to make my hair healthier, she acted all put out, and did not really seem to be familiar with the product, and had to read the bottles, to find what I needed. i will say the product was good. I spent $250 in that salon all totaled. But will just get the product on Amazon. read more

I got my men's haircut here for my wedding. The moment I sat down, the stylist asked me how I wanted my hair cut, and I described generally how I wanted it cut and added, "I'm getting married in a couple days!" The stylist went completely silent and her hands started shaking. She was shaking the whole time and was completely nervous. My hair cut turned out to be a wreck! Clodoveu is now my forever favorite hair stylist/colorist! So talented! Long story short, I don't know how I got lucky enough to get an appointment with him just a few days after my old stylist put some sort of brow red in my hair (a very festive red) *shocked face* I got to my appointment today and Clodoveu was very patient answering all my questions and concerns, he kept it real and told me exactly what he could and couldn't do with my hair. Four hours later and after a balayage (to remove as much red as possible), a botanical treatment and a trim I'm back in the game. Ladies, I can't tell you enough of how amazing my hair FEELS and LOOKS! He even has a specific treatment plan for my hair now which includes toners, treatments and trimming every couple weeks. Look at the picture attached to this review and tell me if you can see any red? Red whaaaat?! (happy dance!!! Woot woot!!!) Clodoveau is a hair magician! After 2.5 hours had brown hair with some highlights and still roots bc she didn't go to the scalp and bleached out ends from old highlights. Asked her to fix it, which took another 1.5 hrs and the help of a second person. She put the heating lamp too close to my head, BURNING my scalp AND HAIR, then charged me $315!!!!!!! I came here for a partial highlight touchup. I left a $50 tip for the stylist since he did a good job. But my bill ended up being $320; I was shocked and had no idea it would be so much. After getting home, I researched prices online and decided to call the salon to try to get some money back. They said no. I asked to at least get the tip back. They said ok and that they would refund my credit card $50. They never did. read more

This isn't the first experience with her, and I can say the end results are always stellar. I have a lot of hair... a mane it's been called. Although It's fine, it's curly and long. I needed a professional cut after more than two years of trimming my own hair in front of the bathroom mirror. I'm happy with the cut that Jessica gave me -- a nice, sharp, not-quite-shoulder-length bob that makes the most of my fine, flyaway hair. Jessica worked efficiently and didn't try to make a lot of small talk, which was fine with me! The reason I'm docking Fringe (and not Jessica personally) one star is the wait. When I arrived for my appointment, on time, I was asked to "come back in 45 minutes." What? Okay, fine. So I walked around and window-shopped and came back in 45. Jessica was *still* working on another customer (!), and I ended up waiting in the shop another half an hour. While waiting, I observed another customer come in for her appointment and being asked the same thing -- "come back in 45 minutes." Fortunately I had spare time that afternoon, and I was determined to get my hair cut, so I stuck it out. Still....Not the best schedule management or customer service (I wasn't offered any sort of compensation for my time, although I didn't ask for any, either). I just had my hair appointment cancelled with Fringe Salon for the THIRD straight time, this time on CHRISTMAS EVE. They told me yet again my stylist was sick and had to go home. The first time, I was completely understanding and rescheduled. The second time, I had driven there already when they cancelled. I was still totally understanding. The third time, today, roughly an hour before my appointment on Christmas Eve no less, they cancelled yet again. Last week when they rescheduled the owner told me if my stylist can not cut my hair on Christmas Eve she will do it herself. She personally assured me. I have a history of alopecia areata and do not color my hair; I get haircuts regularly but have every right to good, reliable service just the same. When she saw me last week the owner asked about coloring and highlights, I clearly stated cut only. This is exactly what I've been doing for over a year at this salon. The truth is I am not a big enough ticket client for them on a day when they are busy and they would rather use my slotted time for other higher paying customers. There are plenty of salons in Burlingame and San Mateo that will respect the client's time and health far better than Fringe Salon. read more

communication was very poor. I called for a style appointment for an outdoor photoshoot. I specifically asked for style not blow dry or curl. I also asked if I needed a picture/walk in consulting before the appointment. The stylist said no it's fine. When I arrived, I told her what I wanted again, she immediately raised the price. It was a same day of my photo shoot section. I had no choice to say no. It took more than 3 hours to do my hair. No cut, no dye, just styling. My schedule got delayed because this long styling hour. There was only one stylist at the salon. In the same time, another client also waited for long time. The other client complained about the wait to the point that the stylist stopped working with me and started working with her. The final result was different than I expected. Had my first appointment today with Fringe Salon. I've been getting my haircut from an ol' school barber for the past couple of years near work but wanted a place near home. I discussed everything through Yelp inclusive of setting an appointment and they were super responsive and replied pretty quickly. Had my haircut with Celine (sp.?) and she was great. She was very detailed and gave great advice when I asked her thoughts. The haircut and service was great and even better than how my barber cuts my hair. They were local since I lived in downtown Burlingame at the time, then I moved out of the downtown area. There are many salons in Burlingame but I seek fringe out because of their expertise.
