Most recent trip wasn't as good, pizza tasted fine but there was an entire piece that was basically seared off. The chicken was awful, overcooked and burned. I know this is not a full reflection of the service here bc I've been so many times. However, that lack of consistency reflects poorly.
Ordered delivery and arrived pretty quickly. The whiskey chicken was so good. Highly recommend the nuggets! Pizza was hot and had lots of toppings. The dough was on the thicker side. Huge fan of the ranch!
Got into Philly late and despite having an early lunch we were famished. Looking for late night eats in City Center is always a challenge as well as we had an early morning the following day so we're looking for delivery. My son had good things to say about Dough Head's so gave it a try. The pizza for a delivered pizza was really good and loved the fact you could request it to be cooked more. Nothing worse than doughy pizza. Pizza arrived fairly quickly though it was luke warm but still hit the mark. My only wish was for more pepperoni. Photo on their site showed a pizza overloaded with Pepperoni. Price was on the steep side but to get a pizza late at night I have no complaints. Would high recommend as an alternative to the Pizza Huts and Dominoes of the world. Great place for satisfying late night cravings.
I called in and ordered the Upstairs Neighbor a 16" Crispy crust, caramelized onions, Cup n Char pepperoni, NJ crushed tomato, whole milk mozzarella, and chipotle honey drizzle Pizza. Make sure you have plenty of napkins in arms reach because the pizza is good but the sauce is sticky ! This is a nice twist to the pepperoni pizza. Oh! And the order was ready in 20 mins just like they told me over the phone.
YUM! was craving pizza before running the Philly marathon and Dough Head hit the spot! Their specialty slices were delicious! We tried a couple of different ones including bbq, spinach ricotta, and sausage. I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. The staff was nice and we got our slices quick! The place doesn't really have seating so plan to take out if you stop by!
Tried Dough Head back when they opened a few years ago and recently had the chance to try em again. Popular spot with lots of takeout orders and you can get slices too. Service very quick with managing pickups and such. No tables inside, pickup only. Had the John Dough which is plain cheese. Very crusty and crispy. Sauce and cheese very well balanced and it was a good, all around pizza. Have heard good things about some of the wildly named ones also need to try those out next time. Thanks
Have I found a new pizza spot?? I think so! Ordered delivery for a Elon crust and garlic knots. First of all, I can never say no to a spot with awesome pizza names and the variety is unmatched!!! When I got the large pizza, the box was HUGE which let me know immediately that I'll get my $$ worth. You can choose to have your pizza "well done" aka a good char on the crust but not burnt. Dough Head def understood the assignment on that one too. The pizza was ahmazingggggg with a good balance of cheese and sauce. Also, hats off to the garlic knots because it tasted like somebody put they back into it! I have no choice at this point but to go back and try their other pizzas too!
WOW OH WOW! I have to admit that this was one of the best slices of pizza that I've had in Philly! I was always under the impression that another commonly mentioned pizza place was the best but my option has definitely shifted! The slices were large and so good! I had some left over and it even tasted better heated up the next day! Will definitely coming back for more!
This is a very good pizza spot, I did order it to my house which admittedly is a bit far from the location so it's hard to fully assess how the pizza was before the transit. The flavors were very good and there was a good amount of pepperoni on the pie which is important. There were more garlic knots that I thought there would be and they were good but not life changing. Don't get my wrong this is a very good option for to go pizza; I just wish I was a bit closer for fresher delivery.
Had a pretty tough time deciding on which two pies to go with as there are so many similar-ish options but each with their own character. Ultimately asked for help and went with Dough Joe & Grannie Pannies Dough Joe: I'm a huge white pizza guy and this was just okay. I surprisingly felt like the ricotta was too soft to hold up the rest of the pizza in terms of overall texture. The garlic spinach was a nice touch. The sausage was fine-really nothing overly special. The crust is good but there's a LOT of it. We ended up buying extra marinara sauce and the garlic parm sauce for dipping-I really enjoyed the latter but some may find it a bit salty. Grannie Pannies: The thickness of this crust was key- a nice thinness without being too floppy. The sauce was nice. Added some of their garlic powder, chili flakes, and truffle hot sauce which really put this slice over the edge. I was actually quite surprised they had the truffle hot sauce in the condiment section-would recommend (it is HOT!). The prices for the pies were a bit of an eyebrow raiser but the pies were really sizable so I actually think they were quite reasonable. They don't have seating here but there are a few bars/brewery nearby you can venture to to eat.
Wow! If I could give this place a score of 100, I would--without a doubt! Started with a couple slices and a Dr. Pepper... ended up devouring a whole square pizza. That's how good it is! The food? Absolutely excellent. The service? Top-notch. The vibe? Super cool, with some awesome artwork on the walls that adds to the experience. Hands down, one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. I was blown away by Dough Head. Having lived in NYC, one of the meccas of pizza, my expectations are high! My love with this pizza spot began when I noticed their extensive, fun menu via uber eats. I was a little weary because it is on the pricey side, but they have a large selection of unique pizzas! I chose the Upstairs Neighbor which had caramelized onions, pepperoni, mozzarella, and a heavenly drizzle of chipotle honey. BLOWN AWAY. The crust was crispy as were the pepperoni. It was just simply perfect in every way. My curiosity got the best of me so I had to get RPG (Ranch, Parmesan, and Garlic) sauce. What an amazing addition to an already amazing culinary experience. Lol! The only thing I didn't love was the cucumber feta salad but that was probably because of my own taste buds. It was a little too tart for me! I can't wait to order pizza again though!!
The crust on this pizza is great. It's crunchy yet chewy at the same time. And I did ask for it to not be too charred. I know it's not a common preference for pizza, but I'm not a fan of that burnt taste. And Dough Head accommodated my request perfectly! It was perfectly cooked and was absolutely delicious. Tons of toppings on this pizza, unlike a lot of other pizza places. A pizza did cost $28 (with taxes and fees), which is certainly on the higher side.
Awesome dough! We ordered two pizzas - Smoking Dough Frazier and Marlon Brandough. Both were really good. My fav was the bbq chicken (Smoking) while others preferred the sausage and spinach (Marlon). The crust is amazing. I have tried the long-lined award-winning places and I'd choose this crust over those every day. One of the things I liked was the chicken was shredded and not diced i to tint pieces that turn into pebbles when baked at a high temperature. The bbq sauce was amazing. The only thing I didn't really care for was the very wet spinach, which I imagine was topped after baking. I was impressed that the spinach didn't make the crust soggy, still, the soppy veggie took away from the overall bite. I would have preferred topped with fresh spinach. They don't give you a choice to build your own, which is fine given they do offer many options with all kind of toopings on the menu. What I do like tho is they do sell slices since a whole pizza can be a lot, and you should go during peak time to be be able to buy specialty slices. If they only have pepperoni or buffalo chicken when you come, just come back a little later, because they literally told me they probably wouldn't have specialty slices so I bought the whole pie and when I picked up there were so many specialty slices :/ The pizza itself was good! The dough was not too thick. For the chicken, it was still a little crispy when we get home and flavor was good but it had too much sauce imo. Also, the portion is big. I was in the area and searched for Pizza, so glad I chose this place. I believe it's new to South Philly and it def adds value to the food scene in that area. It's right across from Pats Steaks. We will be back to try more things. But, for a solid piece of cheese pizza, place should be your next stop. read more
I have had some really bad pizza in this city, and I've had some okay pizza too. However, this is the only pizza place I find myself going back to. Truth be told, I don't have the patience for Angelo's so I can't compare Dough Head to them (yet). Everyone on my street (mere blocks from Dough Head) order it too because I always see a box out on trash night. We love the dough mama (white pizza with crumbled broccoli) and the Olivia gluten John (chicken, sun dried tomatoes). You should go for their premade selections, rather than DIY because you'd be hard pressed to make something more delicious than their options. I've ordered online several times, and it's always ready on time. They recently started a rewards program too so now I can see how much of a fatty I'm really being by looking at my rewards! read more

Great quality pizza with a perfect crust and just the right amount of sauce, cheese, and toppings. I ordered the sausage and pepperoni, and I really liked how crisp the pizza was. It's also quite affordable for the size you get. While I do prefer another popular pizza spot in South Philly that I think has a bit more flavor, Dough Head Pizza is still a solid choice in the area. read more

I enjoy the food here, but the service is not it. I order pizza to be delivered around 11/11:30PM as I work night shift through their website on Thursday 10/2/25. My order never came. Drivers kept getting assigned but no one could pick up the food and the ordering/delivery system canceled my order 37 minutes after the store closed. With canceled orders it is not automatically refunded. I had to call the store a few times and speak to a few employees before the owner finally resolved the issue. All this was fine, I get it, the delivery service they use is a third party (UberEats/DoorDash/something like that). The owner Joe called me from his personal cell on 10/5/25 at 4:43PM to confirm I received the receipt for my refund (I did at 4:09PM). But, what annoyed me was the owner said he was giving me a $25 gift card for inconvenience of it all. I told him I did not need it, but he insisted. He sent the gift card over at 4:50PM right after he got off the phone with me, and by 5:29PM had revoked the gift card. This kind of FALSE COURTESY is what annoys me the most. I only noticed it today 10/24/25 because I thought I might as well use and share with my coworkers while I am at work, but I guess not. read more

I wasn't going to write a review because it was so horrifying it would shut them down but now I hope it does. A few weeks ago I had a roach crawl out of my pizza box. They actually thought I'd want another. This place is disgusting. I also got a salad that time and the cucumbers were at least a month expired and complete mush and it was swimming in dressing. I don't know how they can serve such gross food. I walked by today and they wouldn't let my toddler use the bathroom. I would've sucked it up and bought something just to throw in the trash. Horrible people, horrible place. read more

Highly, highly recommend. This pizza had an amazing crust and the sauce was a very simple red sauce (not sweet). We also noted how large the pizza was given the price. The pick up was extremely quick and timely. Only thing was there wasn't really seating so something to note if you go read more
Living in the East Passyunk area, I was always curious what would occupy the space next to the Insomnia Cookies. I thought the idea of a pizza place that's open late would be a good way to cater to the burgeoning night life scene that exists in the area. My husband and I decided to try out the place by ordering from them for lunch. We were hoping to order some different slices because they offer by the slice or pie but they only had slices of the plain and pepperoni. We ended up going with the Abe Froman and Shroomin pies. Honestly, the pizzas were kind of bad. The dough was so burnt that the crust was just inedible. The ingredients on the dough left much to be desired; the ingredients and toppings listed for each pizza on the menu give the impression of fresh, local, and simple-yet-classic but really could have shined if there was only a little bit more salt. Would I go back? : Probably not. The pizzas fell short of my expectations. While it's possible that the pizzas may not have been as good because we went at a non peak time, I'd say there are better pizzas in the area that are consistently good like LaScala's Birra for example. read more

I'm on the journey to try the top pizza places and Philly and started here. The crust is crispy with a slight char but not burnt, very well done. Pizza is not too floppy and the undercarriage cooked to the right texture. Flavor is great, right amount of sweet and tangy tomato. The garlic knots are amazing, so flavorful with a nice bite and not too doughy, hard to imagine a better knot anywhere else in the city. I'd put this place top 3 in Philly. read more

Been hearing lot about their pizza on lot of best ofs ( oh btw best ofs have poor taste buds more about whats hip in place .. lol) finally tried it as its on pricier side & honestly i wasn't impressed.. i mean yea somewhat tasty but for a place with dough in title i found it too cooked to point much of dough was heavy crunchy even burnt in parts & my jaws started hurt after 2nd piece.. got the square granny pie.. & order of garlic knots. Knots were bit dry seems nobody in philly knows how to kick up garlic knots ...dough head did a decent job w/chop up actual garlic some evoo sprinkle Locatelli blk pepper bit salt .. anyhow not sure ill try doughhead again.. got my favs in center city & in-our vicinity though sure wish angelos delivered.. read more
