I co-own a fitness studio in East Austin and we brought Double or Nothing in for a two-step lesson at our preview party. Best call we made. Vanessa and Phillip ran the lesson for a mixed level crowd, and they read the room perfectly. Beginners got the basics without feeling lost, the experienced dancers got enough to stay engaged. The energy they brought carried into the rest of the night. Clear communication leading up to the event, sweet as can be, showed up ready, handled their own equipment, and had exactly one request: an outlet. As someone who isn't used to planning events, I can't overstate how much it mattered that they were such a breeze to have around! :) If you're planning an event, a party, or just want to learn to two-step from people who are great at teaching it, these are your folks. read more

Vanessa and her team are truly AMAZING. She got our whole event (300+ people) up and dancing. She brought such wonderful energy and was very easy to work with. I would highly recommend Double or Nothing for any events! read more

Our line dancing lesson with Double or Nothing Two-Step was a highlight of our college roommate reunion weekend. Vanessa and team were very responsive as we made the arrangements and helped us find a great venue. Our instructor was excellent (and patient!) and made the lesson super fun. We worked with Double or Nothing Two Step for my best friend's Bachelorette Party in Austin and had such a GREAT experience! This was hands down our favorite part of the weekend. Vanessa was our instructor and also who I community's with prior to our event. Vanessa was such a great communicator and a wonderful instructor. Our group had so much fun with her. She even stayed later than our reservation to teach us one more routine because we were having so much fun. I couldn't recommend Double or Nothing enough! read more

I've two stepped before but never had a class so I signed up and gave it a shot despite going solo. It looks like it is a great place to go if you already have a date. This is definitely not a place to go solo, you'll stand around and waste your time. The ratio is about 70:30 so good luck getting to dance with someone as a man. read more

Great lessons, very helpful and patient instructor. Just what we needed to get started on the dance floor.

We booked Double or Nothing Two Step for a corporate event and they completely exceeded expectations. Communication was top notch, everything was organized, and they made it incredibly easy on us. The event itself was a huge hit and our employees had an absolute blast. It was easily the highlight of the night. People were still talking about it all week and asking when we are going dancing again. Truly professional team and we will absolutely be using them again. read more

We had lessons with Vanessa at Double or Nothing and she was absolutely fantastic. Vanessa is the perfect mix of warm, bubbly energy and truly gifted teaching skills. She made every session fun, easy to follow, and incredibly productive. We actually came all the way from Italy specifically to learn how to dance, and she made every mile worth it. We learned so much in such a short time -- not just the steps, but how to move together, how to feel confident, and how to actually look good on the dance floor. She explains things clearly, adapts instantly to what you need, and creates such a positive, encouraging atmosphere that you can't help but improve and enjoy yourself. What really stood out is how genuinely she cares about her students. She celebrates every little improvement and makes you feel proud of your progress. Her patience, kindness, and contagious enthusiasm turn every lesson into something you look forward to. We loved the experience so much that we'll definitely be coming back -- and in the meantime, we'll try to continue lessons even from abroad. We genuinely loved every minute of our time with her. Highly recommended! read more

Hands down the best country instructor in town! If you are a beg, int or adv dancer, Vanessa has classes for you. She's the best!

What an incredible night our team had with this amazing women-owned line dancing company in Austin! The way they structured the session was perfect for team building. Everyone felt welcome to participate at their own pace, and the instructors were fantastic at encouraging the group while keeping the mood light and enjoyable. We hosted it at the Thirsty Nickel which added the perfect authentic Austin touch to the whole experience. A BIG thank you to Vanessa, Rachel and Taryn! Highly recommend this company for any group looking for a unique, entertaining team-building activity in Austin. Austin has a large country music social dancing community. In this city you can go two-stepping any night of the week. The quality of the bands and musicianship everywhere is incredible. Vanessa (Double or Nothing Two-Step) works to bring folks up to speed on the footwork and moves that the dancers at our local honky-tonks are doing and also to keep everyone in the community in-the-know about who is playing where every night via her daily "Where to Two-Step Austin!" social media posts. Those two activities combine to form an on-ramp for anyone looking to experience this city's rich musical legacy through dance and to meet all of the cool locals keeping the "old Austin" flame alive. Vanessa (currently) teaches multiple two-step classes every week between Sam's Town Point and Donn's Depot and she also periodically organizes a "Boot Camp" which is a bigger and longer weekend event for sharing tips and moves and trying new things. Over the past few years I've gotten more and more into country music and felt bad that I didn't understand the dances I saw people doing around town. So I started attending Vanessa's classes in September of '23 and kept showing up for intermediate and advanced classes at Sam's Town Point. The classes are always followed by a live band which gives you the opportunity to practice what you've learned. And you'll meet tons of other people learning to two-step who you will then keep bumping into, and dancing with, at different honky-tonks around town. It's intimidating learning to lead in a community full of graceful and seasoned dancers but it helps immensely when you know some of the faces in the crowd from attending Double or Nothing classes. Vanessa also offers group, corporate, and private lessons. If you're part of a squad just visiting town and looking to pick up some genuine Austin vibes, there's little better than learning to two-step at a place like Sam's, Donn's, or Sagebrush. And, as a mobile DJ, I wish that more event planners (and brides!) would hire dance instructors to give a group lesson before the open dance floor portions of events because country music is so much more enjoyable to listen to when you know how to move to it. And the local flavor of country music here in Austin is very vintage, pulling from rock & roll, soul, honky-tonk, outlaw, and Texas swing traditions. So it's very intentionally made to be danced to! All of the regular dancers at the honky-tonks in Austin know and respect Vanessa because of the services she provides to the community through teaching dance and telling everyone where the best two-stepping parties are going to be taking place every night of the week. I don't think any other two-step dance instructors have earned such a bounty of good will. And that's why you should hire Double or Nothing to teach you how to country dance in Austin. And also be sure to follow their social media accounts and drop into the classes. read more

Had a blast learning how to line dance for a work outing. Dalton was an amazing teacher who made every step fun and easy!

I am not a dancer -- in one lesson, Vanessa gave me the confidence to hit the dance floor that night! Her lesson was clear, easy to learn, and incredibly fun! I only wish I lived in Austin so I could take more lessons with her! read more

If you want to check out some two-steppin' Dalton, Demi, and Vanessa are all excellent! They work with a variety of levels, brand spanking new, to old hats looking to add some new skills. Vanessa is so skilled and down to earth. She has come up with a very learnable sequence to teach newbies and is very good at adding on in a super manageable way. We've already been out dancing at local halls and are feeling pretty confident even though we've only had two lessons. We can't wait to try out the intermediate group lesson tomorrow!! read more

Had an AWESOME one-on-one lesson with Vanessa. I'm a beginner (had gone two-stepping once before) so I was nervous going in. She was thorough in answering my questions and explained the movement, body communication and tempo perfectly. Since our lesson I've been to White Horse, Mavericks and Donn's Depot and had a blast at each. A couple reviewers mention she teaches the "wrong" two-step (more accurately, the Honky-Tonk Two-Step). My hunch is they had the same misconception I did - I thought communication happens in the feet but Vanessa showed me how it's mostly in the hands. If anything, learning the "wrong" two-step was helpful because I don't obsess over what my feet are doing and miss the more important communication my lead is giving me. Looking forward to our next lesson together Vanessa! read more

Absolutely LOOOOOVE my lessons with Vanessa. Such a delightful, lovely and kind person and a total badass at her craft. She is the real deal. No contrived egotistical dance guru energy. Just a truly good human who looooves what she does and is damn good at. She has my highest reco!! read more

Best best best best BEST two step country dance classes in Austin. Have enjoyed immensely from both a student and facilitator perspective. Classes can be described as joyous, active, light hearted, fun, and life-giving. INCREDIBLE way to receive compact and easy instruction while having the time of your life (if not your life, at least your week). Great way to learn a new skill, spend time with friends, or find community. Can not speak more highly of my experience with this dance school. VIVA LA DOUBLE! read more

Vanessa's lessons are the best antidepressant I've ever tried! Her teaching style is accessible and encouraging. It's been really special to get to know the people she brings out - all kind and looking to learn something new. She offers beginner, intermediate, and advanced social lessons throughout the week at venues around town. Tip her! I can also highly recommend her private lessons. These have been valuable in polishing things up and gaining confidence. Time of my life:) read more

Double or Nothing is an absolute gem. I was new to Austin, had never two-stepped a day in my life, and am usually terrified of dance floors. But the dancing at all the local honky tonk bars looked like so much fun that I thought I'd step outside of my comfort zone and give it a shot. After just one lesson here, two-stepping became one of my absolute favorite things to do. Vanessa is friendly and welcoming, even when you don't know the first thing about dancing, like me. And with a single one-on-one lesson, I got comfortable with the basic steps & some cool spins right away. After a couple more of the (free!) group lessons she does around town, I had a solid repertoire of moves and enough confidence to dance just about anywhere. Plus, if you live in Austin, I found that there's a really great two-stepping community here. So you see a lot of familiar faces, can learn new moves, and get to have fun with some really great people, the more you do it. read more

Vanessa is such a fantastic teacher, and her love for dancing is obvious in her lessons from start to finish. She explains things with just the right amount of detail and has a way of simplifying really complicated moves into something anyone can do. I've brought my partner who wanted to learn to dance to three of her lessons, and I'm floored by the progress I've seen in so little time. Really grateful to her for being able translate something I love doing in ways I hadn't been able to myself. read more

Best and most fun dance lessons in Austin, hands down! Go solo or with a partner, doesn't matter - you'll for sure find someone to dance with regardless. Vanessa does a great job making sure everyone feels appreciated and safe and answers any questions that pop up about new moves. So much fun! read more

5 Stars all the way! I've learned many styles of dancing over the years and know that it can be hard to find an instructor that not only has talent, but the ability to teach and connect with her students. After looking for a two-step instructor for quite a while, Vanessa was highly recommended to me and she is the real deal. The honky tonk style she teaches is fun and so are lessons. Her teaching style is low key and collaborative and she figures out ways to explain and demonstrate moves that makes them easy to understand and follow. I never leave without feeling great and like it's a great investment of time and money to learn with her. Of course, the fact that my partner is a wonderful, beautiful, intelligent, humorous and exceptionally graceful woman, makes it all the more enjoyable and stimulating. read more

I learned more in an hour with Vanessa than all my previous nights dancing combined. Highly recommend a private lesson and will definitely book again! read more

I was first introduced to Double or Nothing Two-Step at one of their free lessons at Sam's. Vanessa is a great instructor for leads, she has a thoughtful teaching style that helps you avoid common mistakes. I've since been taking private lessons and have learned a great deal as someone with no previous experience. Come check them out at Sam's Town Point or Donn's Depot and learn for the first time or take your two-stepping to the next level! read more

Vanessa is an amazing two step teacher! We booked a package of four lessons with her in her home. We had about two months to prepare for the first dance song we chose for our wedding. We picked one of the harder songs to two step to based on the beat but Vanessa made quick work of teaching us a couple sequences to put together for our song. She is so sweet and patient and you could really tell she is so excited to get people moving and learning something new! Even though my husband and I felt out of our element she always made us feel comfortable! We would highly recommend her private or public lessons she offers at the various bars around town! Thanks again Vanessa! read more

Can't say enough good things about Vanessa. Not all great dancers are great teachers but she is both of those things, combining them with grace, intelligence and a great sense of humor. The two step style she teaches is accessible and informal. Having fun is the whole point of dancing and she makes it fun! After only a few lessons this Jersey girl feels confident to take to the dance floor. Thank you, Vanessa! read more

Okay, have to admit that despite growing up in Texas I never learned to two-step. Crazy, right? Boy oh boy, how my life has changed! Thanks to Double of Nothing Two-Step (run by the lovely Vanessa), after 53 years on this planet, I can go by my little ole self to any honk-tonk and hold my own (and them some. I've taken her beginner, intermediate, and boot camp classes. The instructors are amazing, instructive, patient, seasoned, and have some fancy footwork that they'll share with you. They help both leads and follows equally improve skill sets and have a blast at the same time. I highly recommend these classes. And don't forget to tip DoN2Step and the Bands! read more
