I zipped over to this tiny place for a quick BBQ lunch and unfortunately, the results were mixed…read more This is a take-out only place where you walk up to the window. There is a bench to sit on and wait for your order to be filled. There are four picnic tables with umbrellas if you wish to eat outside. The guy behind the window was incredibly five-star friendly and efficient. I had my food in maybe four minutes tops! I ordered the Chopped Pork sandwich, fries, slaw, and a fountain drink. I was asked if I want BBQ or mustard-based sauce and I went with mustard. It came to $10 and was packaged just fine. I decided to eat at a picnic table and had no problem finding some shade. The crinkle cut fries were a very large portion and hot and crispy and damn fine. The Cole slaw was a little tangy and tasted great. Now for the sandwich which should be the star of the show. Not so much! It was a very skimpy portion of pork. I could get more pork in my sandwich just about anywhere. What was there was tasty, and the sauce was good, but I was disappointed. I was supplied with napkins, but I really really needed one of those wet wipes. They should fix that. As I prepared to leave, I discovered there was no trash can. What the hell! So, I took my trash and my sticky hands to my car. As I drove home with my trash next to me and my hands stuck to the steering wheel, I contemplated this review. The best I can do is an overall three stars. There are a plethora of BBQ joints in Central Florida and it's easy to do better than this!

Food & service was good. They catered an event at our venue. Starling Ranch Barn On The Lake.read more

I set me in car and waited until 2:30 pm I paid for my Slab of ribs ($33.00) with sauce on the side and a large potatoe salad ($8.00). My husband also wanted a cup of peach cobbler which is so good. The ribs was so tender omg! I was so satisfied. The owner and his wife are so nice their customer service is amazing. We go there so much tell she remembers us. They are located next to a fruit stand and we always purchase items there. Not sure what the name of it. The location is easy to locate also across from racetrac gas station. They only take cash! I did not take a picture of the slab of ribs because my family tore it up. It is a must to pay them a visit.

We stopped for lunch around 2:00 on a Friday afternoon and they were out of pulled pork and bbq chicken. So I had to settle for the rib sandwich. Which was delicious by the way. The sides were Mac and cheese, Cole slaw, baked beans etc. I had the Mac and cheese and it was delicious! Cheesy creamy goodness and the pasta was not over cooked. The small size was a 12 ounce styrofoam cup so plenty for 2 people. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was because they were out of 2 of their main meats. This is definitely tops for bbq.

Today we ordered…read moreFried Green Tomatoes ($9), Chef Salad($13.70), Texas Club Sandwich with gone fries($12.50), and Country Fried Chicken with sides of mashed potatoes and corn ($14.20). Nothing was overly salty and everything we ordered we would all order again. The Chef Salad was large and looked fancy with fresh vegetables and lettuce and meat and cheese roll ups. The Texas Club was a tasty chicken salad sandwich on crisp Texas Toast with a nice light taste. The Country Fried Chicken was moist, easy to cut with a fork and seasoned just right. We don't often find a fried chicken breast as nice as this one. The fried green tomatoes were plentiful and prepared just right and perfectly crisp. Our server today was Annabel and she was just as friendly and attentive as we wanted/needed. When we sat down, I was hoping this might become my new favorite restaurant and they lived up to that hope. We live close to an hour away but I'm thinking we may drive back for breakfast tomorrow. This is most definitely a highly recommended place to visit.

    - Steven B's BBQ Checklist - 1. Great Yelp reviews. Check!…read more2. Privately owned business. Check! 3. Smoker on site. Check! 4. Makes their own sauces. Check! It's been a couple of years since I last reviewed them. Let's see how they handled lunch today. Ratings- Almost 300 reviews from the two big review sites with an average of 4.6! That's damn fine! Arriving- Off the beaten track a couple of miles off US Route 27. Let your GPS do its thing. Limited parking but it works, Ambience- Teeny, tiny neat & clean place. A tiny patio. Three picnic tables near the front door. Seating inside for maybe 10 and a small patio. There is a counter for ordering and paying. The menu is on the wall, and I have posted a picture including prices. Customer Service- I've never had a problem on many visits. You order. You pay. You get a smile. Five minutes later it comes out, and you get another smile. Simple and painless. Food- For this meal I ordered a Brisket Platter. My doctor said my cholesterol was a little low, so my sides were fries and corn nuggets. The brisket is pictured before I added their homemade mustard sauce. It was a solid no frills lunch. Crispy sides and savory, lean meat. At 11:15 on a Wednesday there were a dozen folks ordering so they must be doing something right. Conclusion- If you are blowing through the middle of Highlands County and craving some Q for a quick lunch, this would satisfy!

It's hard to find good bbq around here. The service was quick and efficient. Sadly the food was not worth the price paid. Lesson learned.
