Johnny's Eggs works is ok, it's not the best. When you use a " cheese spread" it's not real cheese. There omelets are extremely thin. If give then a 5 at best. The egg house is so much better. Granted they are closer then the egg house the eggs house is worth the trip.b read more

Not a chain, breakfast & lunch only, and a solid reputation over many years for being consistently good. I've been to both meals several times and definitely agree. Today was breakfast. Arriving- Not many folks have been to Frostproof as it's so tiny. It's a five mile straight shot off US Route 27. Big parking lot so that's not a problem. Ambience- Typical. Kitsch on the walls, booths and tables and a counter that seats 8-10. You've seen it all before. Kids are welcome. Customer Service- Several of the servers have been there many years and seen it all. You can expect them to be friendly and efficient. I've never had a problem. Food- It's rural Central Florida folks so expect standard American fare. This visit I Ordered a Meatlovers Omelet with Home Fries. It came with my choice of toast or a biscuit, but I skipped that because I knew I was getting a lot of food! Of course, I had coffee. The pre-tip tab was about $14. As you can see, a lot of food! The cook knows how to finish home fries. Note the beautiful browning but not burnt. They need a little more seasoning but still very good. The omelet was huge and packed with proteins. Delicious! So, you're blowing down route 27, maybe with the little munchkins, and you need a reliable breakfast or lunch. You're sick of chains. Diner and restaurant that served more than eggs. I had a veggie omelet that had fake, processed, orange cheese. The fried potatoes were fried nicely on the outside but mushy on the inside. It was nice to have the choice of an English muffin as a choice of toast. The other breakfast entree was a waffle with blueberries and a slice of ham. Was pretty good - thick, golden waffle with lots of blueberry pie filling. The ham slice was thick and a generous serving. Average coffee, only regular creamers only available. To recap my rating criteria, especially when it comes to breakfasts, 1) it must be huge portions, 2) reasonable and competitive prices compared with the market area 3) average or better service in the market area. We dropped into Johnny's Egg Works - my first time to this mom & pop kind of place. Their hours are 7 AM - 2:30 PM so it's for breakfast and lunch only. The interior had a vibe of a former 50"s - 60's highway diner which has been pleasantly updated through color and decor. And it was clean. Upon taking a seat we were quickly greeted and our drink orders taken, and soon thereafter delivered. Our server was back within a very acceptable timeframe and friendly and efficiently took our orders. Yeah, I'm that customer that always seems to ask for a substitute to be made (something my dining partners were quick to point out). The server cheerfully allowed my substitution. Again after only a very short wait our meals were out in front of us. The portion size of my Ultimate Omelette, grits and pancake exceeded criteria #1. As a fact this is one of the largest pancakes I've had outside my own kitchen. And my other dining partners seemed to agree on their portion sizes as well. Criteria #2 - the quality of the food also exceeded my expectations. The Ultimate has about every type of meat you can get in an omelette and in the perfect proportions - not to much of one and too little of another. Criteria #3 - if you got the feeling from my previous comments the service was good, my apologies- the service was GREAT! After our orders were delivered the server came by to check on us and ask if refills were needed. At all times the staff was pleasant and not overly intrusive. All in all, this was a great dinning experience. At least get this on your list for breakfasts. I hope to be reviewing Johnny's again after a lunch. I hear they have a HUGE burger! read more

The prices are affordable. My partner and I got the bacon and cheese omelet, veggie omelet, both with biscuits and hash browns. The omelets are huge. I enjoyed the veggie one and it also had some cheese in it. The bacon and cheese had way too much cheese. We were split on the biscuits. I liked them and she said they were not fluffy enough. They were fresh so good enough for me. The hash browns or homefries were too mushy. I would ask for them extra crispy. Service was friendly and attentive. read more

Formerly the Frostproof Family Restaurant but now with higher prices. Regular hamburger with fries and cole slaw, with a cola came to $9.39 with tax. Good sized burger patty (at least 6 ounces, possibly 8), hand formed, not frozen. A less than generous serving of fries, hot and fresh. Cole Slaw was the standard small dish that a side order would typically come in. Pretty good burger, cole slaw like most restaurants nowadays could generously be called mediocre. No reason to go back but no reason not to either. read more

I had one of the best Cheese Burgers in my life. This place is fantastic, I drove by and decided to give it a shot and boy was I glad I did. I mentioned that I was in town from Orlando and one of the owners came by to ask how I enjoyed the meal and it turns out he also lived in Orlando and was Executive Chef at one of the best restaurants in Orlando "the Vines" and you can tell that he cooks his heart out for each customer that comes in. I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. The last reviewer called it "mediocre" I would have to disagree. Go back and you will keep returning. I highly recommend. read more

Being a vegetarian (not even eggs, fish, chicken), there are not much options in the town. But for a change, The Orange Grove offers a fried eggplant with spaghetti and cheese. Unfortunately, they don't keep regular stock of eggplant. But its enjoyable to eat with sides like mashed potatoes, sweet potato fries. read more
