Nothing was overly salty and everything we ordered we would all order again. The Chef Salad was large and looked fancy with fresh vegetables and lettuce and meat and cheese roll ups. The Texas Club was a tasty chicken salad sandwich on crisp Texas Toast with a nice light taste. The Country Fried Chicken was moist, easy to cut with a fork and seasoned just right. We don't often find a fried chicken breast as nice as this one. The fried green tomatoes were plentiful and prepared just right and perfectly crisp. Our server today was Annabel and she was just as friendly and attentive as we wanted/needed. When we sat down, I was hoping this might become my new favorite restaurant and they lived up to that hope. We live close to an hour away but I'm thinking we may drive back for breakfast tomorrow. Read on- Ambience- I sat at the tiny bar which has 8 comfortable high stools with backs. This is great if you're running solo and in a hurry. Customer Service- My bartender was excellent as usual and quickly gave me a menu and an ice-cold Stella draft. Food- I ordered the incredible Philly Cheesesteak Fries! Parking is easy and if you have the need there are two handicapped spaces around the back near a second entrance. Ambience- The convenience store/restaurant is in the back and kind of combined. There are acres of cooler doors with every drink you can imagine including beer & wine. Just grab what you want to drink with your meal. Don't worry, you pay when you're finished. There is a bright and spotless dining area with a bunch of tables & booths. See my picture. Pro Tip- I'm a gringo and if you are also, you will be in the minority. Don't panic, you'll be made to feel very welcome! Food- This is an order at the window kind of place. There are some menus on the wall but not everything is included. Just ask. So, I asked for the famous Chorizo Breakfast Burrito- "Small or large? Small please." "Would you also like Beef & Cheese? Hell yes!" "Here or to-go? Here please." "What color sauce? Red please." Less than five minutes later it was ready and plated beautifully. Not too shabby for a gas station! Pro Tip- They make their own tortillas year daily! OMG I was in love! The previous owners were famous state-wide for their Slaw Burgers! Folks drove 100 miles to buy them! They literally sold them for decades. The new owners insured it lives on! Arriving- Teeny tiny Frostproof is a straight shot, about 5 miles, off US Route 27. You end up on Main Street where these guys are located. Free street parking and more free parking around the side. Ambience- A beautiful remodel with lots of wood. A long straight bar with comfortable stools with backs. A just the right height, tiled foot railing makes for a comfortable bar experience. Behind the bar is mounted a long line of huge TVs for your viewing pleasure. It's an awesome place to watch a game! See my picture. Of course there are also tables, booths, and even pool tables. TouchTunes & Wi-Fi- I recommend the App for using the juke box. In this part of Florida, you can expect a lot of classic rock and country. You need a password for the Wi-Fi and its typical retail speed. Adult Libations- Full bar plus 12 taps. I enjoyed a Space Dust IPA. It was 8.2% APV, ice cold and delicious. Customer Service- Five stars! I enjoyed a great bartender/server that was friendly and efficient. Food- American bar & casual food. Lots of fried food and a great variety of sandwiches. I went with the iconic Slaw Burger & Fries along with my IPA and it was $18 pre-tip. It came out quickly, piping hot and with unique plating. Juicy and savory with the added snap of the slaw. Add nicely cooked fries and it was a superior lunch. Conclusion- If you are traveling through Highlands County, divert here for a great lunch or dinner.
