We arrived earlier and they happily seated us early. Many of the tables are unused I believe due to the Covid environment...but if that was a concern perhaps the worn carpet in the restaurant should be replaced too. Skip the interesting take on greek salad (pictured here) and the French onion soup and go for the entree and dessert instead. We ordered two filets, one medium and one medium well and both came out very rare so we sent them back. The asparagus did not look appetizing as it appeared to be over cooked and the red wine sauce looked and tasted like brown gravy. I guess for a $48 steak we expected a little bit more from this wonderful resort. The staff was soo very friendly, apologized and offered to correct. I think next time we will stick to the Italian restaurant for cleanliness and food options.

Lots of options for a place you wouldn't expect this much to choose from. You can tell owner and long-time manager Alane really cares about this place being successful. Alane is the daughter of Howard Solomon, the creator of the neighboring castle. Many of Howard's family work at the restaurant. The food is good. And the setting is excellent. Inside seating is a large ship built by Howard. There is additional inside seating below the lighthouse that has an artistic tree in the middle. Alane decorates the tree depending on the season. Salads are large with a number of ingredients. The Reuben is tasty and comes with your choice of one side. Crackers brought with the meal are Ritz. Did I say the service is good. Make sure you walk around the restaurant area as there are many decorations, including the risque 'netted' mermaid in the ship.

My friend, Randy, said to her the sign says 9pm she told him she wasn't doing this with him right now cause she had a hard day. I asked if Randy and I could finish our pool game, and she said no cause they already said they were having a meeting at 8 pm. Which they didn't tell us until after we had already bought our drinks. I said that's BS, and she told me to get my ass out of her bar and that I could keep my ass and drugs oit of her bar. I told her I don't do drugs and she could test my ass. I then said half her staff does cococaine and called her a bitch as I was walking out. She threatened to kick my ass and the 6'5 bar back chic stood up acting like she was going to hit me. This was all while I was walking out to leave. Then after I left she called my boss, Penny, trying to get me fired. Thank God I have an awesome boss. Anyone can ask my boyfriend, Randy, Doug or Bill. They were all there when it happened. She then barred my friend Joie who used to bartend at Charlotte's cause she commented on my Facebook post which is identical to this post.

The winter salad was nicely composed and had a nice balance of flavors. The braised greens were kale with bacon, well seasoned. My husband also had a shrimp cocktail followed by a blackened mahi mahi fish over grits. Nicely cooked.... grits tasty but heavy. The wine list by the glass is limited so we order a bottle of Belle Glos Pinot Noir and were able to take the remainder of the bottle to our room. The dishes that floated by our table to other patrons looked amazing. The fried chicken and wedge salad looked super popular! The dessert was a real highlight. The signature skillet chocolate chip cookie sundae. Rich, melt in your mouth hot baked cookie with ice cream and the trimmings. Very reasonably priced for resort food where you're limited to the few restaurants at the resort. Breakfast buffet the following morning could be improved. Not as gourmet as I would expect for a high end resort like this.

We arrived at 11:00 and were one of two tables with customers. Our waitress arrived promptly for drink orders and had a decent knowledge of the square cardboard's menu items. We selected two soups for appetizers ($7, $8). My friend selected the $22 blue crab wedge salad with avocados, heirloom tomatoes, cucumber and a lime dressing. I chose the prime burger with applewood bacon, onion ring and horseradish aioli, homemade chips on the side ($16). While the menu presentation on heavy cardboard was novel it was awkward to manipulate. Our soups, the truffle cauliflower bisque and the seafood gumbo, were of nice presentation. The cauliflower soup was very creamy but tasted of cream--not cauliflower--and truffle could not be detected. It was pleasantly buttery and "sweet" but not rich in a vegetable flavor we'd hoped for. The gumbo was EXTREMELY spicy and more of New Orleans descent than "old bay". Loved the okra, crab and shrimp. There was one oyster but the first bite produced rock grit and was repulsive. The rice was light and overcooked--we thought maybe it was barley. Though I finished the dish, it was far too cumin-y for my taste. The crab salad dish was NOT a wedge as presented and was minus the avocado. The heirloom tomatoes were good. The lime dressing did not taste like lime and was not used. This dish would've been happier with a vinaigrette and/or some butter flavor for the crab--and some seasoning spice like old bay on the crab. This was not a $22 salad, even considering market price on the crab. The burger was the star of the meal. Though I asked for medium rare and got a very rare burger, it was tasty. The applewood bacon was cooked to perfection and a nice thick cut. We felt the horseradish aioli was far too strong to use. I was given French fries instead of the chips I ordered, with no comment. They were good hot but did not keep their heat long. Our water glasses were only refilled upon request and far later than we needed the drink. The bill came out with different prices than the menu printed price, in our favor. The $22 salad was $18 and an $8 soup was $6. We thought maybe they subtracted for the missing avocado on the salad but not sure on the soup. Overall we felt the prices were high for the value received. The meal was not "memorable" or of the delicious depth expected for high quality eats. We did not like that they ran a floor sweeper while we ate--shouldn't happen in a classy establishment when we are the first guests. We didn't like the food "errors" such as chips for fries, not a complete lettuce wedge. The dressings were poor. It took forever to get water refills and get our bill IN AN EMPTY RESTAURANT. We made it an enjoyable experience around mediocre effort on their part. We'd love to see it continue to elevate to a level that makes a 54 mile round trip to eat there more worth our while.

It has several privately owned restaurants that are solid, and this is one of them. I love a good breakfast so off I went! Arriving- These fine folks are on the outskirts of the city on Route 17 South. They are super easy to find. Depending on which way you come in, you'll be driving by citrus groves, cucumber fields and cattle ranches. If you're really lucky, you might see a bear! They are in a dilapidated plaza with no presence at all, but parking is plentiful and easy. Pro Tip- Route 17 might freak you out a little. It's a divided highway but it's divided by 1000 feet of homes and businesses! Often you can't see the other lanes! Atmosphere- There is none. It's an old building with old fixtures and furniture. There are many booths with hard, uncomfortable wooden seats with no padding. Can you say, "Butt ache!" Pro Tip- CASH ONLY so come prepared! Customer Service- Excellent! My server had worked there for 8 years and was a pro and it showed! Food- Stand southern, American menu with no surprises. I ordered a Ham & Cheese Omelet with potatoes plus coffee. It cost me $12.80 pre-tip. The coffee was hot and good. The potatoes were piping hot and not greasy. The omelet had plenty of fillings, but they were all packed in the middle with empty ends and that annoys me a little. However, it was very good, and the overall breakfast was solid. This is a hard one to rate for me. It probably should be 3.5. There are plenty of places nearby with a better atmosphere and equally solid food. I'm going with four stars because of the stellar service. Just remember to bring a pillow for your butt!
