Winter Roll (spicy tuna, crunch, jalapeño, topped with salmon & yellowtail)

Wayne, NJ - the dishes here are very "greatest hits" of standard Americanized Chinese and Japanese food, with some random Thai thrown in - nothing innovative or authentic - but I really like eating here and have enjoyed most of the entrees I've ordered, which are better than similar fare at restaurants that offer this type of cuisine. To my surprise, the pad Thai is superb! Better than I've had in many Thai restaurants. The noodles have perfect texture, are slightly smoky and not overly sweet. I enjoyed both the beef and chicken versions. The tom kha gai soup is also great. However, the Thai basil chicken, which I asked for "extra spicy," was not basil-y, spicy or Thai flavored - but as long as you're not wedded to authenticity (as I mentioned, the food is tweaked to American palates), it still tastes pretty good. I don't normally order sushi at mixed-Asian cuisine restaurants as they could be hit or miss, but tried a couple of special rolls my friend ordered and they tasted very fresh. The setting in an awesome feature here - the lakefront location with an outdoor deck that's open in warm weather and has a tabletop fire pit. The staff are friendly and service is great, and they're sweet to children. They've thrown in freebies with our orders like complimentary dumplings, sake shots, and ring pops for our kids! The owners are very nice and have a good sense of humor. FYI that they don't offer tap water, only bottle. And it's BYOB. There is a 3% credit card charge, which I see more and more across NJ and everywhere else, especially at family businesses like this one.

It's been awhile since we've been here. They now have a liquor license with a nice outdoor bar and the patio was redone. Very nice view of Pompton Lakes. The owner Jeff is really nice ! It was my husband's birthday and he got a complimentary shot and after our dinner they came out with ice cream with a candle and sang Happy Birthday . That was such a nice surprise!! The sushi is amazing! We loved the tuna tartare. They had a big selection of rolls, Chinese food and Thai food!! Service was quick! Wishing Jeff all the best!! See you again soon!!

Food: We tried the All Good roll, Sean Sean roll, Dancing Tuna roll, and the Mini That spring rolls -- all had a great mix of flavors and were really enjoyable. Each roll offered something unique, and the combinations worked well together. However, the gyoza and smoked salmon sushi were underwhelming and not quite up to the same standard. Service: Service was decent overall, but a bit slow at times, even when the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. Staff was polite, just not especially attentive or quick. Aesthetic: The interior is beautifully done, with a clean and modern look. There's also a cool outdoor patio that overlooks Pompton Lake, adding a relaxing touch to the dining experience.

I just love this place! The food is exceptional and the staff is great. They even have a bar inside now and the drinks are delicious! Love the ambiance inside and out! The sushi is so fresh and the Chinese dishes never disappoint. They also have the best fried rice in Jersey in my opinion!! The beef, duck, dumplings, rolls, scallops, eggplant. Can't say enough! Highly recommend!!

Located in the heart of Wayne, a beautiful ambiance overlooking the lake! Its BYOB and a good date night spot or group setting for sushi, thai or chinese cuisine. Drinks are made strong and service is quick.

Came here for dinner with friends on Friday night and they were so busy! They have a mix of Chinese and Japanese food so you have plenty of options. We got sushi and fried rice and both were delicious

Went to Double Ai over the weekend with family and friends and we tried a wide variety of food items - sushi, Thai noodles, soup dumplings, sushi, Cantonese style stir fried lobster. Like how could they all be good? But surprisingly all of us thought each dish was delicious and besides the shrimp dumpling not being our favorite, everything else was REALLY TASTY. Also, loved their updated patio and outdoor bar. Super nice touch, especially as this spot is right by the water.

I've been following Double Ai on Instagram for a while now and finally got to go last night! I didn't make a reservation so had to wait for outdoor seating but the wait was short and you can hang on the couches near the fire pit. We got the steamed pork dumplings and kani salad (SO good) to start. We shared the King Kong and Happy Holiday rolls. The King Kong roll was excellent. Heads up this place is byob. They charge you for water. Idk why some places do that but I get that bottles are more costly than tap. I'd be perfectly fine drinking tap if it were an option.

Perfect evening on Double Ai deck! Beautiful soft jazz playing as we watch the sun set. Superb service, excellent food and the best vibe for miles! For vegetarians, you can request tofu as a protein substitute for most dishes. I love the veggie moo shu but am trying Thai Basil w/ tofu tonight. My husband loves sushi & sashimi and loves it here too!

Beautiful to eat outside. They serve liquor and now charge $10.00 corking fee. Also no tap water so $2.00 for a bottle. Not complaining just saying! Salad was very fresh. Food was excellent as always. Orange chicken, chicken lo mein.

We came here on Sunday around 6pm and got seated right away. It was my husband and I with our two little ones under 5. We ordered edamame & pork gyoza to start - the edamame was yummy but there was a leftover noodle on the bottom of the dish (not sure if it just wasn't washed all the way?) The gyoza were good. For mains, we got the kids House Lo Mein to share which was yummy. For sushi, we got the Princess, Scorpion King, Happy Ending and Bounty rolls along with the Ikura & Tobiko on the side, for my husband. He said the Ikura tasted like it's been out for a while. I really enjoyed the Princess roll but the Scorpion King tasted a little too fishy (and we eat a pretty decent amount of sushi). Overall it was an okay experience - they do have a patio if you want to sit outside and overlook the lake.

Every roll was a specialty roll, and it really showed. If there's ever a question about whether their specials are worth it -- they absolutely are. I wouldn't hold it against you if you eyed me with suspicion when I said:…read more "It's in a strip mall, next to an Applebee's but... it's great!" "It's my new favorite ramen joint. My last favorite was in a food court inside of a mall!" "It feels like it's the next evolution in the Tommy's Tavern-Tio Taco's takeover of high-quality spots all across our great state!" (But each statement is said, and meant, with sincerity.) It's large (high ceilings adding to the 'wow factor'). It has a great look and vibe. The entire staff are profusely positive. As for the ramen... the broth was chock-a-block with flavor and veggies and noodles and a whole array of goodies (black oil, crispy garlic nubs, creamy tofu, you name it). The Mrs. (who is the real connoisseur when it comes to ramen, I'm just a wannabe) thought the portion was a bit on the 'wimpy' side (for the price) but I was content. (We arrived at the tail-end of happy hour, so maybe I was a bit more forgiving since the bill wasn't as bad as it could've-would've been.)

I'm confused!! Let's…read morestart with the positives. The vibes are wonderful, great spot for a date and quite spacious so I wouldn't worry about getting a seat. Service is excellent. The selection is inclusive, with ramen options for vegans and those who don't eat pork. And the pièce de résistance: the takoyaki. I consider myself somewhat of a takoyaki connoisseur. If it's on the menu, I order. Their takoyaki is BOMB. It's perfectly creamy inside and rests atop this delicious velvety ricotta-like sauce, excellent sauce assortment (the usuals), and I like the shredded bonito, ALL GOOD. Not a ton of octopus in there (about 1-2 pieces in each) but I wasn't mad. I was actually very very happy. Now the sad is that their main event, the ramen, was pretty underwhelming. I ordered the chicken ramen. The issue that really docks points is that the broth was just not right. It was over-reduced, or something otherwise went wrong because the texture was less creamy and more...thickened? Viscous? Unpleasant. It left this slightly gritty strange coating on the tongue. Also, it tasted like straight up bones and water. Severely under-seasoned. And the measly slices of chicken (give us 4 if they're going to be that small) did not have a touch of much-needed salt. The noodles were seasoned very well though, so I did enjoy those bites especially when I doused that baby in their delicious spicy sauce. The seasoned egg was nice and I'm glad it came with one whole egg and not a half. Also glad the bowl came with spinach because lord knows we need more fiber. As I ate the noodles, I enjoyed the bowl, but I couldn't slurp the soup. That's arguably at least half the experience, right? I want to give 4 stars because genuinely, that takoyaki is GOLD. That alone is like eight stars, off the charts. However, this is a ramen spot. The ramen is, alas, important.
