I used to be a regular at Dotty's, first in South Carson and then at their Gardnervill location. Not a big gambler, but I bought all of my cigarettes there and brought a lot of other business through friends. I had a problem with an employee hitting on me multiple times amd after being denied (Because she was Married) she decided to ban me from all Dotty's locations. After multiple calls to the complaint line, I finally received a response. I was told that even though the ban was unjustified and the employee no longer working there, the ban would stand. Now, I do everything in my power to turn business away from them. I realize that, being a Man, this is backward from the norm, but NOBODY should be banned from ANY location for refusing to sleep with its employees. read more

I came in yesterday to buy cigarettes and was told I couldn't because I had a backpack and drink (water). I am disabled in Wheelchair (no legs) and was treated very badly. Then to top if off I couldn't make my purchase with $100.00 bill. What the hell with all this? I feel I've that I have been discriminated because of my disability. This is not the way to do business and not way to treat people who are your customers. This whole situation needs to be addressed and adjustments need to be made for individuals in my situation. After 15 yrs of service my position was eliminated at Dottys. & I was forced into early retirement. The funny thing is that a different job opened up & I bid on it & was told I got it & was going to start the following Monday only to find out the very next day that I was being let go b/c the position was eliminated. After all the yrs I was employed there, I realized that Dotty's is not there for their employees at all, in fact they know you by a number not a s a human being. They are a very shady company that does not treat their employees with any respect. If you want to work for a company that does not recognize you as a person then DOTTY'S is NOT the place for you. Please have more respect for yourselves & when you see a Dottys take my advice & run the other way. Maybe if they had a President of the company that actually knew what she was talking about & what she's doing it might just make a difference. I usually come to dottys for a crown and coke and hang out a while after work, usually I can be on my phone and make a call because I'm waiting for my brother to pick me up due to unforseen circumstances of my truck breaking down, I was rudely asked to not be on the phone because it "disturbs the customers" there are two ladies that work there, one that let's me be on the phone and converse with my family while the other one, rudely tells me to leave as I buy a drink because i cannot be on the phone...like what rule states that? It's outrageous, no one has ever told me I was being too loud or anything of the sort, and today all of a sudden "I'm asked to leave because I was chuckling.....I'm very frustrated with the situation and it ruined my mood, to be under a pompous attitude of a person. Other than that, I enjoy coming here, I work right next door and it's inviting, drinks are good and service most of the time is good as well, but when it comes to one person telling my "I can't do this" when the other has not said anything, will effect my enjoyment the next time I come back. read more

The Dotty's chain isn't exactly a casino. Nor is it a restaurant. It's hard to even define it as a bar. It occupies a strange neither-region that all the other touch, but do not occupy. Imagine for a moment that your grandmother decided to open a casino in her living-room. But rather than re-design the room, she left everything as-is, and just brought in gaming video machines. But in order to bring in customers, she puts a counter at the kitchen, sells cigarettes and booze, and hires some of the most surly cashiers on the planet. That's what this place is. The customers tend to be mostly housewives who want to do a little gambling before or after picking up groceries, senior-citizen who prefer the more casual atmosphere, gamblers who can't afford other casinos (or just don't want to make the trip to downtown), gambling addicts who haven't realized they have a problem, and gamblers who've burnt their bridges elsewhere. In all of these categories, everyone smokes. I don't understand why they advertise this, as it's only food-service that the no-smoking rule applies to, but they tout all over how "smoker-friendly" they are. It's definitely not a place to go, if you're looking for a typical casino experience. As a matter of fact, unless you live within three miles of one, and fit in one of the previously described categories, there's really no reason to go. read more

This is a place that you have to take for what it is. Its a small, locals place that offers great drinks,(just ask), good poker machines, and a decent offering of slots. It is a very small place compared to others in the area, but thats what its meant to be. Unlike what others have said about it, (you know who you are), its unpretentious, and does not make excuses for what it is and who it caters to. If you want the typical Reno Casino experience, do NOT come here. If you want a good chance to win a few bucks and have a great drink while you do it, then this is the place. Okay, so Dotty's is a little different. It is not a casino, not a bar and not a restaurant. It is pretty much a comfortable place to play video poker. There is a full array of alcohol available for whatever you want to drink, you can smoke and you will be left alone to do your own thing. The decor is odd...it is like a craft store with gaming machines...seriously. I have always thought it was a bit odd, but that is what they are going for. I once asked why they do not have a bar for people to sit at or any televisions...I understand they can only have so many machines but a simple small bar and a tv would be a big help in getting people in. With my situation...my husband gambles and I do not. So I have no where to sit other than to bring another chair up to me. That is just not comfy for me to sit there with a pulled up chair. If they had a small bar I would have a place to sit and could converse with the bartender/attendant. Anyway, I was told because they do not want people hanging out drinking, they want them gambling. Well my husband would gamble a whole lot more there if there were a place for me. I do not like the little kitchen tables..I am not comfortable drinking at a table like that...it is almost like weird. hahha Anyway. Dotty's is nice for the person that wants to be left alone to do their own thing, go in gamble with a drink and a smoke. No frills, no trashy bartenders, no annoying drunk people. Just a simple place to play some slots and not be noticed. Like I said, if they had a bar or a tv in there it would make world of difference for me. It is clean and well kept. When I went in, to my surprise, there was no bar, only a couple tables. We sat down at one and I ordered a beverage. The server said that the drink would be free if I played a few bucks on a machine. I took her up on the offer, made about $10 on the video poker, and I got a free beverage. Pretty good evening. read more

I was in there today at 11am in Lemmon Valley Dottys and the attendant lady was very rude and told us to basically shut up. This is a casino and some noise needs to be expected. Her Rude attitude was terrible and i will never frequent there again. Please Repremand this women about her behavior and she needs a stern warning by ownership or MGT. read more

@Debra A. @Chris R. let me start by asking you if you were even at Store #11 and are you sure? I aks since there is another Dotty's across the street and from what I read it sounds like the store next to the Smith's grocery store. I left that location many months ago due to the very things you say in your postings. Store #11 is the one next to the New Big Lots and New Grocery outlet. If that is the store you are speaking of ( next to Big Lots) then please do ME a favor and try this location again. That has NOT been my experience at Dotty's store #11. Yes there is a 10 dollar buy in if you want to drink. And just to clarify,( and I may be wrong even but i think not) they buy in does not have to be on the machines. that is not what they are promoting. They are promoting if you guarantee to spend $10 your drinks will be free. But you can also not play any machine and just guarantee that you will buy $10 worth of alcohol or even ciggies. Take me for example, I use ciggies to pray with....hard to explain bringing in a prayer pipe not to mention not the place to do it. So when i go into the store I buy 2 packs of ciggies (not just for me but a sibling also) but getting two packs coming in, is the $10 buy in. Then what i save on getting them while I am out in that area grocery shopping( saving my gas too) I save almost $5 buy getting them at Dotty's. I then Have almost five bucks to sit and play with that I would not have otherwise on my budget of pennies. Like many of the clients at this particular store, I have many health issues. So the other bonus in my life is once I have purchased my ciggies and sit and play with what they just saved me, I can sit down and play for a bit and have fun. They will when I need it, bring me a glass of red wine otherwise it is coffee or juice. I have 25 years of sobriety and I still claim that since I only drink wine as a medication in order to keep my other medicines and food down. My elder's in western NC have instilled in me that it will be my motives and intentions that count. So if you catch me at Dotty's on a day I am having a glass of wine, know that it is probably because I have been unable to eat and it has become a necessity. So now I have two packs of ciggies, an extra fin and can sit and play and drink a glass or even two of wine so I can go home and eat. And I have the opportunity to have fun whether I win or not. The folks that work at this location, are top shelf in my book. This is the only place my caregiver will leave me in public for even a few minutes.....only because he feels secure in the employees will look after me in his absence. Usually we are never apart. Make no mistake, Dotty's IS NOT TRYING to compete with the big casino's of RENO....they are making a point of catering to folks like me. Folks on disability with tiny budgets and they give us every imaginable break they can, as I just explained to you. But the employees being rude at this location I FIND UNBELIEVABLE! THIS HAS NEVER been my experience at this location, though as I stated at the start It was my experience at the store next to Smith's.@Chris R I see your post was 2/4/13 which is when I was having issues at the location next to Smith's. That is NOT STORE #11....store #11 is across the street. Dotty's has been a blessing in my life, since it is the only place i can afford to go out and have fun on what they save me and get a beverage alcohol or not. And if you sign up for the card you will get vouchers for free play each week....depending on your play will depend on how much you voucher is. Dotty's is catering to people that don't do Big Casino's wel,l like me...I can't even go in to go to the bathroom in one in Reno without it putting me in a panic attack. While I am there I can also order food that is within my penny budget, especially if I win....I cash out and get a burger or poppers and go back to playing while I wait. Until I visited this location I did not even know Dotty's served food other than the 'munchies' up at the front counter. They are catering to a particular clientele. Folks like me that don't tolerate loud noise and flashing lights and big crowds. I have yet to meet a single employee at this location that has not gone out of their way to make your experience as enjoyable as possible. also be mindful, not all the Dotty's are owned by the same folks. So an experience at one location may not be the same experience you will encounter at another location. Nope it is not a bar, but yes they serve alcohol, nope it is not a restaurant but they always have munchies available at front counter and menus to order from it you want more than just munchies. And they always GIVE BACK to their patrons. This is one of the few locations i can actually take my oxygen off while i am in there since the air quality is great even with smokers in there. I loved the girl who took care of us while we were there. I was staying across the street and walking across the street to this little place. Though I didn't like smelling like a bingo hall when I got back to my room this was the only place I won at! After reading a review by Randy M from Los Angeles, that was the only incentive I needed to register on this site. While everyone is certainly entitled to their opinions, reading a review that was obviously written by an individual with very little knowledge casinos, gambling, how Dotty's ("neighborhood" gambling stores), prompted me to perhaps educate Randy, and also to offer another review that is probably more accurate. I especially liked the people that fell into the category of "gamblers who can't afford other casinos". I think I might need that one explained to me. Dotty's contains the same type of gambling devices that are found in every casino, bar, grocery store, etc. Actually, I think you can wager substantially larger amounts at Dotty's than almost all of the other gaming places. The machines contain various games that can played starting at .05 moving up to $5.00 I think (never play that amount so don't remember), and most of the machines you can place wagers of up 100 coins at a time. So what's not to afford. If you want to get technical most people that are gambling can't afford it, however, it can be a great stress reliever. Also, the category of gamblers that have burned their bridges elsewhere. It would be impossible for anyone to burn that many bridges, that they were finally reduced to giving away their money at the worst place. It normally takes a lot before your picture and name appear on a list of people prohibited from entering certain gaming establishments. Next, he doesn't understand why they tout about being a "smoker-friendly", as the smoking "rule" (law) only applies to food-service. Well, one of the biggest selling points for the 1000's of neighborhood bars used to be the great food, as well as the great prices. All of these businesses were concerned that the fall-out created by this law might actually put them out of business. Smokers want to be able to smoke while they are gambling and if it means the only place they can smoke is in a large casino, then that's where they will go to spend their money. Lastly, for the people that live in Las Vegas and Reno, that frequent Dotty's, they know that the best reason for gambling there are the amounts you've won . This place is unbelievable. Been in there a few times. Just moved to this side of town. Two days ago I buzz the door to get in and some black lady met me at the door with her attitude demanding my ID. Told me I had to let her see my ID else she would not let me in. I told her I had s Dotty's players club card. She with her attitude demanding my ID. So I showed it to her. Cashed in some change for a dollar. Played and lost. Not once was I offered something to drink. But I had to listen to her and her friend talk about her boyfriend the whole time. Thought about spending more but decided against it because of her attitude. Next day decided to back in there but got a message on my phone. Same lady moves up front and watched me while I was in the parking lot chatting with someone. Today I buzz the door I am let in. I choose aachine to play I see the same lady peaking around a door frame in the back like a couple crack head. Then I sit down she comes out questions about what I was doing the night before. Said I was acting suspecious. Said I could not talk on my phone out in the parking lot. I told her suspecious is not a crime and she can not tell me what to do. She said yes she could and she can have me thrown out. I informed her she hasn't rights to tell me what to do and get out. I left and I told her I would be contacting corporate today. Dotty's casino is the best place to go if you want to go someplace small. The staff is friendly (in most of them). . Friendly local people. I think it's better than the big casinos. The atmosphere is better then your big shot casinos. Great place to go over all. read more
