I stumbled upon Dots while sitting at a restaurant across the street. I had to go in! There was the most decadent filled case of cupcakes, mini's and regular size. They are perfectly moist every time. I go in at least once a week sometimes twice. They have description flavor cards posted in front of each cupcake so you have an idea of what you are getting yourself into. My favs are Fleur de Sel, Red Velvet, Apple Pie, Mostess which is like a ding dong with out the expire date of 2015, Marble Swirl and Carrot.. There is new seasonal one that is fantastic, Sweet Potato. Don't let the name fool you. You can't go wrong with Red Velvet or Mostess if you are a chocolate lover. $3 for Regular and $1.75 for mini's Check out there website for their cupcakes of the day. They have an assortment of daily cupcakes and then for each day they add some new flavors to mix up the week. I have found the staff to be amazingly patient and kind considering there are so many choices and at times difficulty choosing. I have watched other people being treated just the same as me. This place is so great the only thing you need to worry about is if you get there when the line is out the door! Not sure what happened with girl and the photo. I have been going in for nearly a year and I've NEVER had attitude from the staff. Maybe "someone" was having a bad day? read more

Went to Dot...buy a dozen ask for plastic bag cause hand full with other stuff. The cashier said they don't offer bag for any dozen buy which already put in carry box. Ridiculous just A Plastic Bag... Just imagine pay for quite of cupcake but we don't give plastic for your convenience. They really minimize cost and gain huge profit. How much profit can save with One plastic and trade with the face of Dot. I have to carry box all around shopping old town. Considering positive way Green to the earth! No plastic. Soon they will set the rule bring you own container. I don't understand rule of No Picture as well... The owner should considering us as consumer to support back the business and be fair at the price sold. read more

This place is great! Their breakfast is fresh and tasty. The cupcakes are extraordinary delicious! A must stop when I am in the area. After a hike in the San Gabriels, I feel the calories don't count. Yummy. read more

Purchased 2 doz. for a party. The cupcakes were dry. The service has never been up to par. It seems as though the product has gone down hill. Will no longer purchase cupcakes from Dots :( Website claims they help local non-profits...I have never been successful I have tried 3 times! Perhaps they offer better service for large orders... read more

TERRIBLE! This place was horrible. The customer service sucked. She was rude and disinterested. You would think, ok for $33 dollars a dozen the cupcakes have to be good right? WRONG! The cupcakes tasted like day old cupcakes, very stale and definitely NOT WORTH it. I can make way better cupcakes at home using a boxed mix. Please don't waste your time at this store. read more

I like cupcakes... but I LOVE bacon! What do these two seemingly diverging opinions have to do with each other? 3 words.... Maple - Bacon - Cupcake! Now, while I haven't actually been to a Dot's storefront, I've had Dots cupcakes several times thanks to Laura S. and her various obsessions. Cupcake-wise... I've always enjoyed Dots. Their cupcakes aren't overly big as some shops are and I found the balance of their flavors match my sensibilities of not liking overly sweet or sugary things. The thing that did catch my eye was their Maple Bacon Cupcake. In my never ending quest for all things bacon-y, I couldn't wait to try it. The cupcake ended up being great. It was a wonderful balance of salty and sweet. The base of the cupcake is chocolate with bacon and maple syrup mixed throughout and all of it works great together. http://s3-media2.ak.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/rM0RVAcE9hrilReuOsrtrw/l.jpg This is a must try for any true bacon lover out there!! read more

Dots Cupcakes - Maple Bacon Cupcake - Cupcakes Near Me - Pasadena, California

They is a super cute cupcake shop! All the ladies are nice. I love the variety of cupcakes they have. My favorites are the red velvet and the fleur de sal. I also tried the vanilla passionfruit, sweet potato pie, carrot cake, chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla which were okay. They sell mini cupcakes (great for a quick bite) for $1.75 or the regular sized cupcakes for $3.00. Love coming here for a sweet snack! :) read more

Tried Dots today for the first time and loved it! The gentleman at the counter was very nice and had a great sense of humor :) We ordered a vanilla 2 cupcake, a mini carrot cupcake and a mini passionfruit cupcake. Yummmmmm!!!! They were all moist and flavorful :) read more

the cupcakes here are a mouthful of surprises. Just walking into the shop and looking at the selection of cupcakes, even if you're not even a fan of cupcakes, will make your mouth water at the colorful selections they have. I came here last week to grab a dozen of the mini cupcakes, and one chocolate (i forgot which one) cupcake which I shared with my gf. I'm not really a fan of chocolate, but the chocolate cupcakes here were rich and tasteful that I managed to finish my half of the cupcake without even realizing it. I also got one hell of a sugar rush afterwards, haha. read more

Everytime I go to Old Town Pasadena, I have to tell myself, "No Vicki, you're NOT going to give in and go to Dots...." Well, it turns out I have little self-control and I always come here REGARDLESS. If you're wondering if the cupcakes are pricey here, of course they are. It's a gourmet cupcake bakery in LA, it's like a standard to be expensive. But the cupcakes here are BOMB. It's a small little shop with a whole variety of cute cupcakes. If I were to compare this place to Sprinkles, I'd say that the frosting here is much sweeter on the Red Velvet cupcake but the actual cake part is pretty similar: moist, soft, and delicious. I prefer Dots to Sprinkles just because I personally like my cupcakes a bit sweeter and I feel that Dots' frosting complements the actual cake better. I've also had their Cappuccino cupcake, and it's amazing too. If you're dying for something sweet while walking around Old Town Pas, COME HERE. You won't regret it. Oh, but be sure to have a cup of milk handy, these are pretty damn sweet (literally and figuratively). read more

Fleur de Sel!! I don't even know what that means, but doesn't matter because it was oh sooo moist & amazing!!!! I was really walking towards King Taco for a late lunch, but I found myself distracted by this place and just had to try for myself, and I'm quite glad I did! Got the minis of: 1) Fleur de Sel 2) Red Velvet 3) Strawberry Shortcake 4) Apple Pie (I think?) And they where all yummy but the Strawberry Shortcake, I could do without! I'd definitely go back here for the Fleur de Sel & maybe try other flavors :) Oh & since I got my cupcakes, I didn't make it to King Taco anymore *tear* read more

If I was merely writing a review on their Fleur De Sel cupcakes, it'd be 5 stars--but, I'll consider the other flavors. I've tried every flavor on their menu, it doesn't help that it's walking distance from me on the weekends, and I guarantee the walk's too short to burn the calories that I gained from their God-forsaken cupcakes. The cupcakes are very moist and just enough frosting that could be borderline "too sweet" for most...but generally they are pretty modest when it comes to the sweetness so it's not too bad for me. I would take Dots cupcakes over Crumbs or Sprinkles ANY DAY--it's a helluva lot more convenient to get to, and the servings are just right. They even have little mini-ones if you're really trying to "diet" (yeah, sure). You MUST try the Fleur De Sel but if I start walking in here and realizing that they keep running out of my favorite flavor, I might just have to change my review stating how absolutely TERRIBLE this flavor is and how you should NEVER EVER get it! read more

Tried a mini cupcake here once. Damn, they're tiny AND expensive o.o I'd rather just buy a bigger one :P I don't exactly remember which one I had. It had chocolate in it, but it tasted weirdly bitter. Not in a delicious dark-chocolate kind of way. Just in a mehh kind of way. Good thing the cupcake was small so it was only one/two bites. 3 stars for now, but I'll be back to give them another chance. read more

I'm currently a fatty. I mean a total fatty fat. I found out tonight with my box filled with a half dozen mini cupcakes from Dots that I am one size larger than the largest size H&M carries, yes, I am that fat. Anyway, one would think that after that realization I would have immediately ditched the half dozen minis and went for a multiple lap jaunt at the Rose Bowl but no, I'm also cheap and at a buck seventy five per mini I was eating those bastards no matter what. Well, what a bitter waste of calories! I got a variety: red velvet, mint chocolate, chocolate vanilla, vanilla chocolate, mostess, and coconut. Let's see, all of the cakes were dry, I mean like sand crumbly dry. The frosting was a mix of chemicals and store bought plastic tub frosting. No good. One star for baking in house and one star for being clean. To date the absolute hands down best cupcakes in LA can only be found at Big Man Bakes downtown. If you're craving cupcakes, ignore the bums and stench of heated piss and get yourself a cupcake from Big Man Bakes. read more

Using Sprinkles as the standard, we went into this place with an open mind. Since we frequest old town I thought we need a go-to restaurant for our sweet tooth. We ordered a red velvet, chocolate and a dulce de leche. They were good, OK-good. I would come back again since the store is conveniently located in old town close to the parking structure. Also, service was good. read more

I love Dots! I used to be a huge fan of Sprinkles Cupcakes in Beverly Hills. However, after having Dots I've changed teams! Sprinkles are way too sweet and rich. I think Dots gets it just perfect. The frosting isn't that thick disgusting sugary glop. I hate when I take a bite of a cupcake and the frosting is so sweet that i make a face. Frosting should not cause me to make the "tequila face"! Only shots of extremely cheap Jose Cuervo should do this to me. Dots does not do this to me. The frosting is sweet enough, but not too sweet. Perfection. The cake part itself is always delicious. Moist and fluffy! I just love these cupcakes. My favorite is mint chocolate. After writing this review I want to get me some Dots!! read more

When I think of delicious perfectly made cupcakes. I think of Dots. I am an avid cupcake fan. I think I have a good idea of great cupcakes since I have tasted them from so many different bakeries. I have no problem trying driving far and wide for these small delights of heaven. Dots makes my drive worth it! Their "minis" are bigger than most places and their prices are reasonable as well. My favorites are the choco butter and red velvet. Every time I go to a new cupcake place that disappoints me, my first thought is "I should have gone to Dots..." lol read more

My friends and I created our own foodie tour of Old Town Pasadena during Happy Hour week back in March. This was stop 3, a dessert stop in between. The cupcakes are cute... but definitely on the dry side. The didn't taste bad, but were not as good as I had hoped. They were also not overly sweet which was good. The selection is small and the cupcakes seem to sell pretty fast. They only have certain cupcakes on certain days. I wanted to try the mint chip cupcake... but maybe not. Dry cupcakes in this cupcake world days... you gotta up the game! read more

My to go place for mini cupcakes. I love sprinkles but if i want a bite size sugar treat I would go to dots because they have way more flavors and they taste just as good as their big cupcakes. I love fluer de sel, caramel, and ofcourse my all time favorite red velvet. read more

Yum, these cupcakes are always so awesome! I really can't say what flavor is my best, I always buy a dozen minis in various flavors. I usually come here only for their black and white cupcake. Don't know what they put in it but it's my all time favorite. I've tried other ones but they just don't compare. The chocolate cake with the vanilla bean frosting is just right. Not too sweet or heavy. read more

My favorite cupcake place! I like this better than Sprinkles and Magnolia cupcakes put together. For some reason, the shortcake just taste so delicious. Maybe its because of the frosting, but I love it. I always get a box of 4 whenever I pass by. After I get my box of 4, I head to 'lette down the street for after dessert dessert. read more

I had the Mint Chocolate cupcake, and it was delicious! The cupcake was moist and the frosting was cute and the perfect consistency. Also it wasn't "over frosted", like some cupcake bakeries are. They offer both regular and mini cupcakes so that you can work your way through their menu. I also noticed that they sell doggy "pupcakes", so the next time I stop by I will definitely grab one for my old man at home. For those who are parked nearby, they also validate, which is a nice bonus. read more

This place is so cute! They sell a wide variety of cupcakes from red velvet, to dulce to leche (my personal favorite), Oreos, vanilla, chocolate, carrot, and the list goes on. They even sell small edible cupcakes for your dogs! Don't worry... it doesn't contain chocolate. I always come back to buy a dozen for family gatherings. read more

Dots Cupcakes - Cupcakes Near Me - Pasadena, California

Decent cupcakes. Just a solid 3 stars. I had the Red Velvet and Chocolate Lovers. Both cupcakes were okay but if I were to compare it to other places, I've had better. Small little place so you'd have to find parking on the street. I'd give you another try to see if things have amped up but for now you're just a decent place for a snack. read more

I have never liked sweets. To say that I almost completely lack a sweet tooth would not be a gross over-exaggeration of my feelings towards confectionary treats. In walks Dots. I don't even remember how I found them, I think was driving to the 110S through Pasadena, saw then as I drove by and flipped a bitch. Dots has, quite possibly, the best chocolate cake I have ever had. It is sweet, but not cloying. Chocolatey without being nauseating. The cake is always moist, light, and you can breath in the cocoa scent before even putting it in your mouth. I recommend anything with chocolate cake, clearly. I love the red velvet because the cream cheese frosting isn't overwhelming and is the perfect accompaniment to the cake. The mint-choco is probably my favorite. Mint-choco can be gross. The mint can be too fake minty and remind you of spearmint gum, or it can be too real and end up being more savory than sweet, or worst case scenario it is just bad and reminds you of toothpaste. Their mint-choco is perfect, just the right balance between natural mint and fake mint so you get the menthol and a hint of sweetness. The malted milk balls on top are genius. I brought back a dozen when I came back to Hawaii. read more

This place was okay. Not impressive, but not terrible either. I think their cupcakes were $2.75 each, and they also sold mini cupcakes, which a friend told me NOT to get. The frosting is a bit too sweet, and the cake is not that moist. I would recommend going to Violet's right around the corner. They have quite a large selection, and the Apple cupcake was more like a muffin, but good because it had chunks of apple in it. The red velvet was definitely not that great in comparison to other places. Sprinkles and SusieCakes still have the best red velvets in LA. read more

Best chocolate mint cupcake ever! Given, I've never had one before...I am a fan of mint chocolate chip ice cream and this cupcake totally hits the spot. So much so that this cupcake shop is the sole reason I make the trek to Old Town practically every week. It plays with texture a la chocolate covered crispy balls, the icing isn't excessively sweet, and the cake is incredibly moist and melts in your mouth. I haven't tried a cupcake I didn't like here, but honorable mentions go to red velvet, raspberry cheesecake and strawberry shortcake. Other deal makers? Cute shop with similarly cute packaging (good for presents), and an option between regular size and mini size, for the gluttonous and not so gluttonous. read more

I love cupcakes... So when I saw Dots while eating pancakes Ross the street at Russels, I thought I must have one... It's cute on both the outside and the inside, though quite small. I entered and an employee was helping a couple with a large order that they were putting in for the future. I was the only other one there, so I took my time looking over the flavors. There were easily over a dozen to choose from, in both full size and mini. I decided to get a few of the minis to take back to the office for taste testing. While I was waiting to be helped, another woman came in and was immediately helped by the employee. I tend to not be bothered by little things like this, but I had already been so patient in waiting almost 10 minutes to ask for my cupcakes, so this was a big flaw for me. And that lady had no problem cutting me either! I let it go only because she had a little kid with her. Minus a star for service. Back to the cupcakes. I thought they were great. They were incredibly moist and not too sweet either. We had - strawberry lemonade, fleur del sel, peanut butter banana, and chocolate mint. I. Thought for sure that the first two were going to be the winners, but I couldn't have been more off base. The fleur del sel was just okay, while the chocolate mint and peanut butter banana were amazing. As it turned out, later that same night a friend who works at another cupcake place gave me one of her lemon cupcakes. After one bite, I thought my teeth were going to fall out. I could feel the sugar mites burrowing through my enamel. It really highlighted for me how the sweetness of Dots cupcakes were perfect. I'm a fan, and I will return. read more

What a cute little bakery! Came late on a friday night. The two workers there were amazing! Not too pushy, gave us time decide, and definitely knew when we were ready. These people were just so friendly and happy! Their mood just made me happy. I got the mini cookies and cream, and also the mini red velvet. I'm definitely not a sweet person, so I just took a little nibble off the cookies and cream. OH MY! It tasted like an oreo. It was moist, not too sweet but you know that familiar taste from what else...an oreo!. Next time I'm going to have a whole mini all to myself! We also asked which was the most popular and it is the red velvet. If you don't know what to choose you can't go wrong with the red velvet. I can't wait to try more. Just a small tiny dessert. They have regular sized cupcakes too. In my opinion, small things are cute and make it ten times more enjoyable. -ENJOY!!! Give it a try! read more

Stopped on a whim and am so glad we did! Picked out 4 cupcakes. Got talked into one more- "5 fit perfectly in the box" she said. We were sold! The clear winner was the fleur de sel with a close second being the chocolate peanut butter. I have to say that I think chocolate cake is their best cake. We also had a vanilla passionfruit, red velvet, and dulce de leche. All of them were delicious but seriously- get a chocolate one! All 5 mini cupcakes were $8.75 and worth every penny. read more

Dots Cupcakes - From top L clockwise. Fleur de sel, dulce de leche, passionfruit vanilla, red velvet, peanut butter chocolate. - Cupcakes Near Me - Pasadena, California

I passed by this cupcake shop and stopped... turned around... and went inside. It was a quaint, small spot. You walk in and the cupcakes are on display to your left. They have mini and full size cupcakes. I went with the mini cupcakes so that I could try out man flavors without feeling too guilty about it. I chose the chocolate coconut, raspberry lemon, and the flour de sel. I have tried the chocolate coconut cupcake so far and it is delicious. My cupcakes were put in a cute to-go box; I do not even want to throw it away! read more

I'm ALL about the mini cupcakes. I don't CARE if by unit they are more expensive than the regular sized cupcakes. I don't care to be cost effective, or that people always complain that I should buy more than 1or 2... I'm all about the experience being comfortable to me. This is the first cupcakery that I had the pleasure of trying while visiting some friends in So-Cal and I'm happy. I took an ENTIRE dozen back home with me and the last time that they visited, they brought some back for me. In fact, I must admit, I'm more a fan of cupcakes than the Porto's cheese rolls that they have purchased for me. I just cannot reject an offer of cupcakes. I love the MINT CHOCOLATE cupcakes and my favorite will ALWAYS be the plain, jane, vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting. Yet, I like the cookies and cream and strawberry shortcake, too. OMG, I could gush on and on about these cupcakes. They travel well. The cake is moist, the frosting is moist and sweet. Some people complain that it is TOO sweet; yet, for me, there is the perfect amount of frosting. All in all, I love them. $1.50/mini cupcake, $2.75/regular sized cupcake... read more

First let me preface this with saying, I am so over the cupcake fad. So I found myself walking into this store to buy cupcakes for my mom, with whom I am visiting, as a thank you. She loves her some cupcakes! Thankfully, there was no line, because I would have bounced out of there fast had there been one. I picked out 4 cupcakes, paid them an arm, leg and my first born (fine- they are reasonable comparatively, but cupcakes in general should be way cheaper!) and went home. The carrot cake was moist. Frosting was disgustingly sweet. Maybe tone that down a notch eh? The passion fruit was just ok. It was passion fruit curd, which tasted more like lemon curd. I think they could have really hit it out of the park with that one. But alas- no! It fell short. Their salted chocolate one needed more salt on top. And their marble tasted like a cake mix from a box. Not bad, just meh. All in all- their flavor ideas are really great, but they are not adventurous enough with them! Is it just that consumers are not adventurous enough with their taste buds? Must the dumb down all their flavors? Pasadena is suppose to be known as a good foodie area and has REALLY been missing the mark lately. These cupcakes belong at a Ralphs. read more

I've been to Dots probably around 50 times. Between the minis and the full-sized, I've probably eaten around 200 or so Dots cupcakes (that's how I roll), and I've tried every flavor multiple times. These cupcakes are really delicious. I got a fleur de sel cupcake. The cake was really moist and fresh. I didn't know until the clerk was describing the cupcake to another customer, but my fleur de sel cup cake was missing the caramel filling inside. I think it would have made my day! The cupcake was delicious anyway. The frosting was just right - not to buttery or cream cheese flavored. I also liked that they didnt pile a mile high of frosting - it was just the right amount to go with the size of the cake part. MDJ got a chocolate mint cupcake, and I am pretty sure he liked it because it was gone in 5 seconds. We both got 1 more regular size cupcake each (I got the raspberry cheesecake, and he got a coconut lime.) The best part is that you can buy the mini versions and try all of them at home. We purchased a dozen for some friends. They were still really yummy the next day! read more

Honestly, I don't even know why I go to other cupcake places when there's Dots, literally a few miles from my home. A tiny little shop, tucked in on Fair Oaks, where you can probably miss it if you didn't look around. : sigh : I remember the first time I was trying to find this place, and found it; unfortunately, this branch wasn't open yet. I have to say, the cupcakes is the main reason why I always come back, along with the cute little boxes they put your two cupcakes in. So far, I haven't gotten a single flavor I disliked, and always got the best customer service from everyone who works there. Decor might be a little too pink, but the cool artwork of cupcakes and iPhone are always a joy to take a glance at. I really don't know why I try other cupcake places when I know Dots will be hard to beat (though, homemade cupcakes always win.) Should check it out if you have a craving for some sweets, or LOVE cupcakes as much as the next person. FORGOT TO MENTION: they have some cupcakes that are off the usual menu, and if you get a chance, try them! They only make them when they feel like it (my friend asked them), I only encountered two flavors, a triple berry, and a passionfruit. read more
