We love Dos Coyotes! We've been multiple times and have had so many of their wonderful menu items over the years including fish tacos, taco salads and burrito bowls. The outside seating is a hit with our family as well. I finally had to write a review because last month I mistakenly left my purse at the restaurant. The manager personally got in touch with me and even came to my house to return the purse to me. Everything was still intact just like I had left it. I love Dos even more now! We will return again soon. read more

I always love Dos. It never disappoints. But, last night, the guacamole was more like avocado salsa. It was clear they tried to make the guac go further and added a bunch of pico de gallo. It was not thick (thin!) and did not taste very avocado-y. Bummer! I'm not sure it was worth the money! Consistency is key, Dos! read more

I've been to the other location quite often and this one is essentially the same. You'll find some decent Tex-mex here but with all the good Mexican options in Davis look elsewhere for burritos and tacos. What I do love here is the Santa Fe and Navajo nachos. They unfortunately overlooked my last order a bit so some of the chips were burnt. They also have seasonal special items that are usually tasty. They give good portions and have plenty of seating. Service is not bad and you don't have to wait too long for takeout. Food: 3.5/5 Value: 3.75/5 Service: 3.5/5 Overall: 3.5/5 read more

Decided to go to the south Davis location instead of the original one in north Davis because I wanted to sit outdoors. This location has a large outdoor patio. I ordered the border chicken burrito without any beans and it was delicious. It had a good ratio of chicken and rice. There is still something about the rice that I haven't found anywhere else. I know kids that will eat a plate full of this rice and, honestly, I can too. It's good! With so many changes in Davis, it's great to see Dos Coyotes continuing to do well. read more

What can I say. Dos Coyotes burritos are the bomb. Green salsa sauce is still the best!!!!!!!

9/29/2016 Been here several times before last night. I Live in south Davis so it convenient for us to come here because it's only a 5 minutes from our house. Came here with my husband and a family friend for dinner. She got the tres tacos but all shrimp, hubs got a chicken burrito and I got a tres taco plate with crispy chicken, steak taco, and mahi-mahi taco. We all shared chips and guacamole. Everything was good but I felt something off, I brushed off like it was nothing. Fast forward a few hours later. Something is defiantly wrong now, I do not feel well at all, I'm pretty nauseous at this point, we're in Brookes at this point, nope my husband had to pull over and I am now puking on the side of the road. I knew it I now have food poising. Let's just say I won't be back again and I know hubby has felt sick in the past eating at this place as well. read more

Ordered the $14+ California Fish Tacos plate and got two tiny slivers of fish buried under a heaping pile of cabbage. The avocado on this dish is a garnish and is sliced thinly enough to see though. The mango is a days old salsa, definitely not fresh chunks like the photo on their web page suggests. The rice side is flavorless and mushy. Ugh. Never again. read more

Zero stars. This was the worst online ordering experience ever. They said my order would be ready at 5:54, and 40 minutes after that, it is still not ready. And no one working there seems to care. Do not order online at this place. read more

Been coming here for years and the food was still great but the service has gone way down. The server did not seem to understand the menu well and was not helpful at all, and ended up getting my order wrong. When I politely told her that I got the wrong item, she dismissed it and said there was nothing that she could do. When I asked for an extra bowl, they refused to give me one, even though there was a whole shelf of clean bowls. Instead, they gave me a wasteful to go container. When I went to put salsa on my food that was in the container they gave me in order to save one-use cups, the manager rudely told me I could not. I would have understood more if she had approached me politely and gave a reason but all of the workers there and manager came off as rude. Disappointing considering their food is so good. Only two stars simply because the food tasted consistent and good. read more

After a long day of shopping in Vacaville, we decided to go back to our old stomping grounds in Davis. Our friend happened to be in town for work, so we had a mini Aggie reunion. All three of us ordered the shrimp burrito( http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/tg7dUfjfdRlTr30BBFk2dQ/l ). It is the BEST shrimp burrito EVER! The shrimp is wrapped in a flour tortilla and has cheese, guacamole, rice, salsa & white sauce. I've tried their Paella Burrito and Scallop Burrito before. Both were good, but the shrimp burrito is my favorite. Their chips are yummy, and you get an unlimited supply of salsa! If you're looking for an authentic Mexican burrito, this isn't the place to go. But definitely give the shrimp burrito a try. Even though there's a Dos Coyotes in North Davis, I think the South Davis location is better. The burritos just taste better to me. Someone bring me back another burrito!!! read more

TWO WORDS: GREEN SAUCE!!! Their salsa bar is to die for. I am not joking. I dream about their green sauce. It's a creamy-based sauce with cilantro..kinda spicy? I seriously go to this joint for their sauces. Literally sauces are unique, especially their green sauce. Anyhow, aside from their sauces, their tacos are alright. Kinda more on the bland side. Like I said before, I go to dos for their sauces. So I usually get one chicken taco and just fill myself up with their sauces. Ok, enough about sauces, but yes their food is good and definitely satisfying. I like it because it tastes clean. If you're looking for authentic mexican food, this aint the place to be. It's straight up a fusion between chevy's type mexican and mexican? anyhow, green sauce :D read more

Dos coyotes has Southwest style fusion food. It is basically Mexican food but with American and other flavors added in (I mean that in the best way possible!) I usually get the paella burrito. It had sausage and shrimp in it and it was delicious. I don't usually like seafood but something about the creamy sauce and sausage combination just works really well. The burritos also come with tortilla chips (not salted) and there is a salsa bar with 3 or 4 types of salsa. I also really like the soda machine because in addition to all the normal types of soda, it has a lot of fruity types of sodas that other soda machines lack like orange, lime, raspberry, cherry, etc. (they have MANY flavors of Fanta!). All in all I give dos coyotes dos coyotes out of cinco coyotes! (Just kidding dos coyotes is way better than just dos coyotes. More like cinco coyotes!) read more

Paella Burrito (~$8): Paella burrito?! WHAT? The concept of this is amazing! However be warned that it is very light in flavor and not really full of seafood that you think you would get. I remember taking a bite into two pieces of shrimp. I mean you only get two pieces of shrimp in one huge burrito?! I had some sausages here and there but I got more rice than anything else. I you add tons of hot sauce and the mild tomato salsa, it makes the burrito more tasty! As you can see from the picture I added below, when I cut it open, it just didn't seem worth the hype. http://s3-media2.ak.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/kp7e7HzRjr7aBTUyPAnZkg/l.jpg Ranchos Burrito Bowl (~$9): My bf got this because he didn't want to use his hands to scarf down his food. He was really hungry after beer rafting earlier that day. When he got his food, he started to look for the rice and mix all of the ingredients together.... well, there is no rice in this burrito bowl. This dish was pretty good! Full of flavor and tons of meat! I am with my bf on the sadden revelation that there was no rice in this dish. I know some Tex-Mex places do not serve rice in their burrito, but with the watery consistency of this dish, it doesn't hurt to add it in replacement of the tortilla wrapping. http://s3-media1.ak.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/0p-3PlHw6FoWAs2ezJw3mA/l.jpg Salsa bar is amazing. Everything looked really fresh and I was glad I had the choice of trying every single one of their salsas. The hot salsa mixed with the mild tomato salsa was the best for me. Service was really nice and fast. I didn't like how there was tons of flies swarming around the outside dining area. It made it hard to eat our food with the flies landing everywhere. I will come back because it is unique and I know what to ask for when ordering these two dishes again. read more

My family recently ate here. We ordered the shrimp burritos, fish tacos & a kid's bean & cheese burrito. We decided to go to Dos Coyotes instead of Taqueria. Boy was that a BAD decision. We are very forgiving when it comes to food but not this time. The shrimp burrito had raw shrimp, mushy canned tomatoes & it was soggy...yuck! The fish tacos were raw shrimp, no sauce, weird Romaine lettuce & fake cheese. The only thing that they didn't screw up was a bean & cheese burrito. We paid $65 & the manager was nice & told us there was nothing she could do. We called to complain to the corporate office & an obnoxious woman on the other end replied, "Are you just calling to get something for free?" What great customer service! We will never go back here. read more

TEX-MEX /facepalm how'd I end up here? For those in So. Cal I'd say Dos Coyotes is similar to a cross between Baja Fresh meets Chipotle, but the Coolest thing they got going is this http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/4HJTj1xezvDMe1foiXgxYQ?select=BKPypGx8SyyquHK9y_K5SQ#_8VkSb_Mryb6bHQxSWB7Pg while I've heard of the I've never seen one, and though I'm not a big soda drinker I just had to give it a try, I love new gadgets and this is way cool the mere flavor possibilities are mind boggling. OK, back to reality and this Tex-Mex menu, Oh did I mention they have a pretty cool salsa bar, with salsa's from Mild to Hot well (spicy) but good flavor.... if you're one that's in to ambiance? the place is nicely decorated in a Coyote motif. The food here has always been decent but my last experience here will always give me pause. I was rang up for the wrong order (I'd asked for a border burrito bowl with shrimp but instead got a shrimp burrito bowl) and had to drive back up to the store. The person who'd rang it up was on break but the young man who'd brought me my order the first time remembered me. He figured out what the mix up was and got the kitchen to remake my food. Not even 3 minutes later, the guy hands me a border Burrito--no bowl). I was so hungry and frustrated that I just took it and left; forgetting to ask for the 3 dollar difference to be refunded. I don't know what is going on up there, but something definitely felt off. Because the food is good, but the service from the front of the house staff leaves a little to be desired. BM read more

I am a Dos fan. All the way. Ranchero Burrito plate a la carte. Burrito smothered in sauce. Awesome.

Huge portions enough for two meals OR to share. I've only tried the salads and nachos, which I don't think you can go wrong with either options. A salad could last me for two meals. I recommend the navajo nachos, santa fe nachos, and yucatan chicken salad. Next to one of my favorite coffee shops, boba, pet shop, mr. pickles. Cute decor. Americanized Mexican restaurant. Chain locations in Arden Way and Elk Grove. *indoor and outdoor patio self-seating *Free parking since it's located in a shopping plaza. *Good for groups, solo, friends, family *Good for take-out *Margarita available. Great salsa bar! Most entrees comes with chips! really great service, and great portions. For reason, this location tastes better than the one in North Davis. I would definitely recommend the wet burrito or the quesadilla with pasilla chile. Both are equally delicious. And the tacos also look very scrumptious! It's a little more expensive than chipotle, but there is definitely a greater selection. read more

I have been a customer of Dos Coyotes for years. The original Dos Coyotes on Covell just off highway 113 is the best in service and food. I was at the one on Cowell Blvd. tonight and a girl named Arica informed me that I could not have more that two little salsa containers and they were only half full. She said it was a COVID rule from the owner. Now whenever I go to the other Dos Coyotes they are not Scrooges and they serve customers in the order they come in, unlike this one. I had to wait for my order till the two customers after me was served and they took more time after that. My husband did not like the burrito which was a first. Mine was just O.K., however the green chili stew was good. As an over all experience, I will not return to the Davis Cowell Dos Coyotes. Sharon read more

My favorite is the Border Burrito which comes with cheese, salsa, beans, rice, sour cream, guacamole (!!!), and choice of steak or chicken! I always order the steak w/ no cheese and it is never dry! ITS SO TENDER. I wish they had lengua though! :) The meal also comes with chips and their is salsa bar is awesome! The only down side is that that meals $10 :( (must be the guac!) But besides that, the food comes out fresh and fast. There are too many Mexican restaurants in Davis and we especially don't need 2 franchise Dos Coyotes in this small college town! I love open bar salsas and they have a good selection on that! I think for an American place trying to make their own twist on Mexican dishes, it is pretty good, but their meats are a bit overseasoned. I think they should at least offer some free chips because it feels while you can get as much of their salsa as you can, you have to result to buy more chips because who can eat chips without salsa(apparently I can but I'll complain about it) read more

Came to Dos Coyotes as a pit stop on the way back from Tahoe. Famous for its soda machine, we had to check out what the hype is all about. Dos Coyotes is your average Americanized Mexican joint, with plenty of Southwest decorations that make you feel like you're in New Mexico. I ordered a Border Burrito, which comes with cheese, guac, salsa, black beans, rice, sour cream, and choice of meat (I went with steak). For the price you're paying, you get a HEFTY burrito. I mean this thing is so big that it's almost impossible to eat with your hands. It's quite tasty inside, but nothing memorable. You've got the standard ingredients proportionally placed and well cooked. A side of nachos comes whether you want it or not. For some it's a free bonus; for me it was unnecessary. I gotta give them props on two things though. One, the soda machine is ridiculous. You have 22 choices with everything from Fanta to Mello Yello. Although I don't drink soda, this is pretty badass. Two, the service is impeccable. My meal was ready before we even sat down at our table, which was no more than 3 minutes. The wait staff is on top of their game and clean up tables within seconds of patrons leaving. read more

Lettuce begin. Came here because I was craving a burrito. When I was ordering, I thought Coyote Bowl was a dish, but it's actually a way of saying "bowl" (like chipotle) and you pick which burrito you want to be a bowl. When I was there, I got the Coyote Bowl: Border Burrito. To me, the bowl was good. Came with cheese, guacamole, salsa, black beans, rice, sour cream, and choice of steak, carnitas, or chicken. I got chicken. My favorite part about the place was the sauce bar. If you don't feel like they served enough, just add their salad dip, it's basically a salad. My favorite sauce was their "hot", which I believe is their hottest. I recommend adding some lemon because it adds more flavor. Feeling a burrito? Then I recommend this place! I'm a burrito lover and I approve this place. Even though it's not authentic Mexican food but the burritos here are made just right. I forgot the name of the burrito that I got but I got it with chicken and the chicken was really moist and tender (whew not dry at all). It was also flavorful with all of the guacamole and sour cream. There's also a salsa bar! I love eating my burrito with the sauces. The only thing I kinda didn't like was that there was way too much beans in my burrito. Next time I'll just tell them to lessen on the beans. I came here again another time and I was a vegetarian. My friends wanted to go to dos coyotes and sadly they don't have a huge variety of vegetarian options :( I got the rice and bean burrito..it wasn't the same lol. Anywho I'm excited to try more of their burritos (with meat of course). read more

This review pertains to the South Davis location. I have been going to this place since it opened. Sadly, it has seriously gone downhill. I believe they have a new manager as of the last year or so and the downturn started about that time. The food has gone from excellent to.inconsistent at at best. The same salad has varied so much I'm not even certain how it is supposed to be. Food has arrived cold, and at times smothered with so many onions that are so sharp they ruin the entire dish. The biggest problems we have had we have been to-go orders. In fact that got so comical we eventually stopped ordering that way. We had FIVE orders in a row where something was serious wrong with the food we picked up. On two of those occasions we had to go back to the restaurant to get the correct food. Did they comp our order? No. The manager offered us a free soda. Now we pretty much avoid this place all together which is pretty sad since we live close by and loved it previously. Two stars instead of one because for the first several years of operation, this place was amazing. read more

Used to love dos. Came here frequently in college, but a couple recent occurrences has made it so I will probably never come back.... 1) I was eating a burrito inside when I heard something fall from the ceiling onto my table. I look down and see a little worm/larvae on my table. I tell the manager and he says "oh yeah, that's been happening because of the decor" (these things that hang from the ceiling made of peppers). How is larvae/worms falling from the ceiling on your customers an "oh yeah" thing? 2) paella burrito used to be a favorite. My girlfriend had it and vomited uncontrollably all night. Over 6-7 times. That is all bad. read more

This place is alright for some decent Mexican food. The mood is lively and the place seems to always be busy. Honestly though, I'd rather go to Guadalajara in north Davis. I'm not even a big Mexican food fan so I would never choose to go here unless someone else wanted to. It's in a convenient locations though near south Davis apartments, Safeway, and a BofA ATM machine. One time I was going to the Cowell Health Center on campus and ran into my friend who was leaving the health center. I asked why she was there and she said she got food poisoning from Dos Coyotes. I think it was from the fish tacos. I'd only come here if you live close by and you're desperate for some Mexican food. It's really not bad, but to me, it's really not that good. There's better. Dos, how much I've missed you. I can't count the number of times I ate at the original location during college. And surprisingly, their food tastes pretty much identical. + 1 star for nostalgia value. :) I ordered my favorite, the mahi mahi burrito, then hit the salsa bar. The burrito was huge and the flavors were just as I remembered...creamy sauce, tender mahi with a slight smokiness. Salsa was fresh and delicious. I love their corn chips here. They are light and crispy, still warm when they come out. I packed 1/2 a burrito and some chips to go. The chips are great reheated in the oven.
