We have been coming to Frankie's for at least 5 years and enjoy coming there for lunch on Fridays. Today was a big disappointment. We noticed that the quality and taste of food has changed over the past few months. Is it due to them opening another location on Plano Road? Prices have increased and today we had to send back a beef enchilada with chili that tasted sour. My husband who is a big taco fan of theirs said that the meat in his tacos have also changed, like they have added filler. There are so many Mexican restaurants in this area, we were very surprised to see how crowded it was. This was our second time and will be our last. Before I begin this review, lemme preface it by saying I am born & raised in San Antonio. In my opinion, all Tex Mex/Authentic cuisine should base their taste on our food. I realize I took SA Mexican food for granted now that I search daily for anything remotely close. Frankie's is some pretty damn good Tex Mex...I will stress Tex Mex. First off, cannot say enough about the neighborhood...I support local fare & was pretty stoked this place has good reviews. Atmosphere is awesome! Waitstaff is amazing! We came around 7:30pm on a Thursday night & were able to sit at the bar & order a marg while waiting for our seats. Quoted a 30 min wait, but didn't even wait 10 mins before a table opened. We ordered nachos as an appetizer & our food was actually ready before the nachos. Our server, Angelica, comped them, then the manager came over & apologized, comping them. Very friendly staff. We were in no way upset, since it was really busy. They explained they had a couple of parties & food orders were taking longer than normal...it looked as though there were 2 sets of college graduation parties going down so understandable. I ordered the shrimp tacos which were well worth the $! You can choose between flour or corn tortillas...I chose flour...they were homemade!!!! Finally! A place with real actual homemade torts! Shrimp were really tasty...sautéed...served with all the fixings. The manager also brought over the spinach queso dip comped & wow! That shizz is amazeballs!!! My strawberry marg was strong & tasty, but the Hubbs said his was ok. Chips & salsa were muy bueno. All in all a very good Tex Mex joint less than 10 mins away from me. Never knew this place was here, but glad I found it. BEST sour cream chicken enchiladas I've ever had, and I've been eating TexMex since I was in a high chair in 1951. Service was excellent, prices were reasonable, and the atmosphere was fun. Chips were fresh and the salsa was as good as any I've had anywhere. This may be my new favorite Mexican restaurant. Took the family over to Frankie's after reading the reviews. It was my first visit, and I do plan on going back at some point. It was good. It is a small place, and we had about a 10 minute wait. The wife ordered queso and it was THICK, lemme tell ya, the chips barely stood a chance in there. So maybe guac to start next time. She had enchilada's with fajita beef on them, and It tasted good. $10, and I had a mixed enchilada plate $8. The rice was a bit bland, beans were red beans more than refriend, but tasted good. All in all, I thought it was average. I will be back though to try the margaritas and maybe fajita's :) Enjoy. read more

We found this place one day while driving around aimlessly while searching yelp for a place to eat. If you find it, you found a gem. I've lived in the Richardson/Garland area for years without realizing the little shopping center this place is in was there or this place existed. I just wanted to start off by saying I've been here more times than I've actually checked in for. Their service has always been great. I thought the service would suck after they expanded cuz they couldn't handle the additional customers but the waiters and waitresses have kept up with things real well. They always make sure to refill the drinks and chips which tells me they pay attention. Their happy hour specials are great and I don't have any complaints. I even accidentally stayed after the closing time (lost track of time one night) and our waitress was still super sweet. read more

I stumbled across this place ,because we occasionally stop at Sweet Firefly next door for ice cream. Came on my birthday to celebrate food. Salsa is of the fresh ingredients kind (some is made with roasted vegetables and some is made with canned products)and tastes great.Queso was the s...... She was feeeling a little adventurous and ordered a entree featuring enchiladas and mashed potatoes. I'm not sure that's a good combination. Our favorite place in Richardson. Managers Priscilla and Jesse are super nice and helpful. My wife and I are big soccer fans and they are always willing to change the channels for us at the bar. Wow. We really enjoyed this place. It's a small and intimate setting. The menu had lots of traditional Tex Mex options in additions to some diffrent and unique options. We had the shredded beef enchiladas and the potato enchildas with brisket and poblano cream sauce. The entrees were enough for four persons. Last, even the rice and beans were good. Do not be fooled! This is NOT "Mexican Cuisine" but rather gringo tex-mex. I came here with my family who I have not see in a while and there were quite a few of us, 7 to be exact. They catered well to our largish party but the food could not be any worse. I ordered the shrimp fajitas and the rice was horribly gummy, the tortillas smelled like wet gym socks and my shrimp smelled odd and was not even deveined-sick! The tortilla chips are in large plastic trash cans and while I am sure they have NEVER been used for trash it just looks really bad seeing the mounds of the tortilla chips you just ate in trash cans off to the side of the kitchen ready to be scooped out to the next unsuspecting customer. My husband had chicken enchiladas and said it was dry and not flavorful. I did not want to cause a fuss as I was with my grandmother but I personally will never return to this very NON Mexican Cuisine restaurant. The ambience was not great it was very typical of Tex Mex restaurants and kinda dark. The service was really good and the waitress was very attentive and that is the only reason why I give any stars period. The saving grace of the restaurant is the ice cream shop next door. We liked the restaurant's ambiance, and the staff was attentive and friendly, and might go back, if in the area, and just stopping off somewhere, but it wouldn't be our planned destination. The food was kind of bland, for what we were expecting. And, I wasn't really convinced anyone knew what they were taking about when I asked if the beans had any pork product, or lard in them, because got different answers from different people when asked a 2nd, and a 3rd person, due to shaky answers. So if you have a food allergy or don't eat something, I would make sure you were getting a definite answer. Want to note that, this is based on our first visit. Do not go here if you have Celiacs or gluten free. I told my waitress last night that I couldn't eat gluten and asked if the fajitas were safe for me to eat. She said she had no idea and I had to get her to ask someone. She told me they were fine as long as I got corn tortillas. I made sure to ask if it would be cooked with any gluten products or marinated. She then assured me they were fine. Well sure enough, after taking one bite of the chicken fajitas, I could taste that it was cooked in something that contained gluten and I got sick from it. Most entrees are enough to to feed two people. Everything I've had there has been great. Yesterday I tried the Burrito Mexicano with pork. It can filled with pork, Beans and rice on of bed of queso and potatoes. I cut it in half and saved it for lunch today. Lunch has $3 Margaritas to make the meal. read more

Me and my BF recently moved to Richardson and live walking distance from Frankie's so we decided to give it a try. In less than a month we have gone there 5 different times. On Monday they have 9 dollar fajitas that are delicious and come in big portions. Oh and prior to any order they bring you these little tostada appetizers for free that are also very yum. The place is kind of hidden inside a shopping strip but for some reason it is always packed. I have tried several dishes but the beef fajitas are my favorite. Also, their top shelf margaritas are 5 dollars and are pretty darn good. Everyone should go on the days me and my boyfriend do not go so we can get a table. Went to Frankie's for my birthday. Our initial server was awful. We had to flag her down to ask her for everything we needed. One of the meals at the table was cold and bland. We sent it back and she did nothing more than remove the plate from the table. It wasn't until I got a manager involved that the service turned around. After telling him how we were being treated, we got 5 star service and a replacement dinner. The manager saved the day and the customers!
