Wow!! I loved this place! My favorite Mexican food I have had in DFW in the last 4 years of living here. The chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce and avacado sauce were superb. It's been a while since I had been here and found myself in the area so made it a point to get back to the place that made me create a Yelp account to give it 5 stars in the first place. Well a lot has changed. They've expanded into the space next door so it's lost it's "hole in the wall feel". Kind of sucks but that's what happens when you're so damn good. The food was still good but not quite as great as it used to be. I hate to lower my rating but 5 stars just seems a bit much for Frankie's. The smaller, more personal Frankie's will live on in my memories as I congratulate them on their corporate success. When I'm in the area, I'll still be going back for some brisket tacos. read more

I was excited to try this place. The layout is nice and it had a good feel to it. However, the food wasn't all that great. The beans and rice were definitely sub par, no flavor. I had the beef fajita, it was ok. It was overcooked in my opinion but the meat wasn't tough and the flavor was decent so it was't bad overall. Although our sever was lacking that personal touch, he was very fast and checked on us often. I will definitely give this place another try but if it's the same it will be my last visit as there are better options in the area. read more

Won't go back here. After reading the great online reviews, we were excited to try Frankies. Nice little atmosphere, but the food was very bland and flavorless. The chips and hot sauce were the best part of the meal. After that, it went downhill with tasteless cheese enchiladas, a stale crispy meat taco and a chicken enchilada with sour cream sauce that was like wallpaper paste. Even the refried beans stunk. My wife's plate was equally uninspired. Folks, there are a lot of Mexican restaurants in this town that feature standout food, unfortunately this was not one of them. Dinner time on a cold Sunday night during the Olympics, yet the place was packed... both the small original room and the double-sized expansion space! Still, got seated at a one-top quickly and a short wait later had my fix of delicious mole covered beef enchiladas. Used to be my absolute favorite place for Mexican food. It used to be very small. I liked the atmosphere, food and service. Didn't want it to change so I would only tell my really good friends about it. Went there again not long ago for a family birthday dinner. Was surprised to see they had expanded into the store space next door. It definitely made more room for larger groups but the new space decoration was a little more campy/fast food sort of appearance. Not the classy, nice look of the original space next door. While the expansion may have done them a favor in allowing them to bring in more customers, the sad fact is that the quality of food and service has actually declined as a result. The food was more bland, lacking the great flavors it used to have. Service was terrible. We could never find our waitress when we needed her. As if that wasn't enough, when she took my brother-in-law's payment for his family's meals, he paid cash and she kept all the change assuming it was a tip. He waited and waited for her to return with his change. Finally we had to get help from the staff to get her back out and explain that the change was not a tip and have it brought back to him. The experience was disappointing. It did not live up to past experiences there. I would like to think maybe it was result of them having a difficult time making the transition to a larger space, getting the food out for more people while maintaining existing short wait times. That is what I would LIKE to think but somehow I doubt it. Not sure if I will be back again. Not crazy about throwing good money after bad. If you have not been here before, it can be hard to find as it is in a little shopping center between an apartment complex and a walled in home development. It does not face a street so you have to drive into the shopping center to find it. Parking is limited and all the shops share it. Nice trees to park under though on a hot day. I seriously hope the quality improves to former levels as I would really like to be able to enjoy it again. read more

My husband and I tried Frankie's in Sachse in a whim and were very impressed. We've been back a couple of times now and it's always been great food and great service. Try anywhere else. Hate to say it because we like to support good locally owned restaurants but this was a major disappointment. Since we have lived here for over 20 years we have eaten Mexican food at most places in Richardson and Plano. Plus, I have lived in Austin and San Antonio and this was the worst Mexican food anywhere. Both my wife's and my enchiladas tasted like 3 day old tortillas and unfortunately that was all you could taste was the tortilla. Had beef enchilada topped with chili and all I could taste was chewy corn. Should have sent it back but I'm the type that will not do that. Will add that the service was excellent and the gentlemen that seated us were very good and accommodating. The frozen margarita was a little above average. Also note that it is VERY loud. read more

Love love love Frankie's! We always sit in the enclosed patio because the lights are fab. Food is great, especially the "lasagna"--which isn't made with pasta, you sillies. It's made of corn tortillas and a delicious creamy green sauce. The only weakness in this establishment is the margaritas. Please, Frankie's, change your vendor and get a better mix so my man will give you another chance. He thinks your margaritas taste like dishwater. I love your frozen sangrias. I went there twice. First time around I left a generous tip in cash and paid with my card. They added an extra tip onto my card charge. I waited 3 months then decided to try and go again: used a different card this time. A few days later my credit card company calls to say my card numbers got stolen and big transactions were declined for my protection. I'm almost positive it is from this place. There have always been problems with the service here. It was not so bad it couldn't be looked past due to the good food and convenient location until this evening. I found a foreign object in my 4 year olds kids plate. I of course sent the dish back to get a new one so that my son was not eating plastic. The manager was notified and after shaking his head at us for being bothersome, he came over to tell us how we were wrong about what it was and we didn't order correctly and what not. This was not okay. It is embarrassing enough for them to have messed up a kids taco plate, but now the manager just made the whole place look like a joke. I will not be returning due to the negligence of the staff and terrible attitude of the "manager". We used to come in about weekly for beers and good food but not anymore. I realize mistakes happen in this industry but the way the mistake is handled is all that matters. This was handled all wrong and I can only hope the "manager" and staff can learn from their amateur mistakes and grow into a real restaurant but for now, the place is clown shoes, save yourself a trip and go to Holy Frijoles. The wife and me ate here last night, the chips and salsa are fresh and tasty. The wife had Squid Tacos that were yummie a first ever at about 100 area TEX_MEX places we have visited. I had the ChimieChonga WOW by far the best I have had any where (order with brisket). On a prior visit I had their mind blowing brisket tacos that make Rudys look like Taco Bell. This place is the real deal and very good. We will be making the drive from McKinney without hesitation at least twice a month if not more. read more

Frankie's is SO delicious and has a wonderful atmosphere. Love the neighborhood and the other local shops around too! I only gave 4 stars because on our first visit, our waitress took a long time to serve us and to continue serving us. However, our next visit was perfect! We will definitely be back! To be clear, this rating does not reflect the food which deserves 5 stars. The lunch service, however, leaves much to be desired. I was out running errands and decided to stop in for some good Tex Mex for lunch. I was craving some chips and salsa. The restaurant had very few customers so I was seated promptly. As she showed me to the table, the hostess asked me for my drink order. I replied just some ice water for now. Chips and a small ramekin of salsa appeared while I was perusing my menu choices. A short time later the hostess (?) came back to take my order (maybe she wasn't the hostess?). I ordered the Chipotle enchiladas with black beans ... which were quite yummy BTW ... to which she turned and left before I could add "and a margarita on the rocks." .... Uh, okay then. I'll catch her in a moment to get my drink order in. Well, someone else brings out my food so I think, I'll ask for my drink when she comes to check on how my foid is. NEVER HAPPENED. I had to flag other wait staff to ask for a margarita and even a refill on the tiny ramekin of salsa (Texan girl here...love good salsa!). Even as I write this review, it has taken the restaurant 20 minutes to bring me the check and not one person has asked how my meal was. I don't know who was supposed to be serving my table but no one was. Yes, I am a party of 1 but that makes me an easy tip...not one you have to jump through hoops for. I only need to be checked on and asked if everything is ok. Sorry, Frankie's. Your service fell way short for this customer. read more

Sold! Great salsa! I actually shot the little cup they brought. The waiter brought bigger bowls after that performance. Fajita meat was flavorful and tender, beans and rice were cooked to perfection and the Miechalada was the best I have had from a restaurant. Solid food, solid service. Done. We will be back.
