The wife and I had a little date night for dessert at Dorsey's. The wife and I shared one of their holiday desserts and I think it was called the hot cocoa spice cake. It was delicious and it looks like a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows and the cup was made out of cake. You can eat the cup! It was so cool! Amazing lunch spot and exceptional customer service!! The chicken salad wrap and mushroom Swiss burger were amazing. Also loved the spicy/sweet watermelon appetizer. Cute cafe inside and optional outdoor seating. The ramp to go inside and the large bathrooms were accommodating for my mother who is walker-dependent. I think this place is having an identity crisis. It used to be local small joint, but has recently expanded into the neighboring space. It's kind of hard to figure out where to go, to get seated or if you want food to-go. We actually ended up having to ask how to order food, even though were were standing awkwardly looking around for 5 minutes. The food came out fast enough, that we didn't need to sit. It was what i would call a top grade homemade sandwich, not restaurant quality but very good. The bar, with out about 6 seats, is in the middle of the room now, which is kind of awkward. read more

So I had fallen in love with the new fish place down on Mequon Road, but yesterday I was disheveled and needed food quickly. So I went back to Settlers Inn for my fish fry favorite - Cod. I'm sorry I cheated with that beer battered cod fried in oil at the new place. It was gooey inside and the batter kept pulling away from the fish, leaving me with shreds. Your cod fillets were golden brown, plump and coated with a light breading. Your tarter sauce and coleslaw are superior. The small roll? Divine. Next time I'll order a dozen. And the choice of side? Oh my! Better than french fried potatoes any time. I had the German Potato Salad. I often eat inside and took the time to restock my freezer with chicken pot pies. We saw that this place had gluten-free options so we decided to try it despite seeing some negative reviews on Yelp. I have to say, the negative reviews on here are totally unfair, and I recommend disregarding them--they mostly have to do with people not liking the change when they remodeled. On the contrary, we found the atmosphere to be bright and pleasant, and the service to be friendly and helpful. We didn't find it confusing at all to figure out where or how to order. They have an area at the back with menus in wire baskets, and a counter that is clearly the place to order. Someone greeted us right away and let us know to let him know when we're ready. After ordering, we got a number and found a table (this is pretty standard for many restaurants). Our food came quickly after that. My husband and I shared a peppercorn beef sandwich on gluten-free bread with homemade potato chips. It was all delicious and a good portion. Really liked the chips! We have nothing but positive things to say about this homestyle restaurant. It's a gem here in Cedarburg. Their pies let me tell you are absolutely amazing. The Blackberry Sour Cream, Blueberry, Strawberry Rhubarb are the pies we have tried and have been pleased. We are excited to try more. As far as lunch goes we've had the cranberry turkey sandwich and the pastrami Ruben. Sooooo soooo good!! Our kids love the mini cupcake surprise that comes in their kids meals. I picked up some frozen prepared meals from their self serve area. I was pleasantly surprised how good they were and my family also enjoyed. We did take out in this Covid-19 world. Not cheap but food quality was high. Napkins and utensils would have been a plus. The owner's attitude though is a detraction. There is a reason why the Stilt House is always full/busy and Settlers Inn is always empty looking. I have been stopping at Settler's Inn for many years. I am surprised by the lack of reviews. It is surprising because a) it is NEVER empty; b) it has stood the test of time thanks to its food and influx of patrons. There is a lot of history (and conversations of ole) that haunt its confines. Those that enter its doors are stepping into a sarsaparilla time machine. The waitstaff can provide spotty service, depending on their mood ("Do not use the bathroom if you are not dining here." You may be told this upon entering by the manager/owner, even if you are there to eat.). My 4-stars are bestowed because of the food. I know my meal will be homey and warming. Everything tastes fresh and hearty. I enjoy a homecooked meal, and the walls of the Settler's Inn deliver that feel. They have homemade soups and pies to start and end your meal. Whether your starch of choice is a roll or their special house potato wedges, they prove the perfect match to your soup, salad, sandwich, burger, or panini. I often go with a wrap, but I went with my longing for a hot bowl of soup. Today was vegetable dumpling and crab bisque. I went with the dumpling dish and was pleased. The veggies stood up to the dense but pillowy texture of the dumplings. My fellow diners chose soup as well, another veg and the other a cup of bisque. The bisque also went with a monster salad (all of the salads come in size XL), the Southwest Chicken. Their salads consist of generous ingredients and healthy-looking greens. The only odd element with the SW salad was the dressing. It looked much like ketchup swirled in mayo, but was actually salsa in a ranch dressing. I tasted a bite of the dressing on a piece of romaine, and it tasted like it looked: unusual. That was the only minus. Otherwise, the meal and the service were superb. I make a plea to the many shoppers [and Yelp members] along the main drag to stop here--except Sunday & Monday, when they are closed AND before 2:00 p.m. on the other days. To be fair, I cannot comment on the food of this establishment, quite frankly, because before I ever had a chance to order, the poor, unfriendly and arrogant attitude of the woman behind the counter drove us to leave. However, the gentleman that works there was outgoing and friendly and greeted us with a cherry Hello and a smile. Seems like a very nice guy. I feel badly that he has work with such an arrogant woman. I feel even worse for him if it is his wife. Just arrogance. So we picked up the menus and the selections for breakfast looked decent. And since I choose to eat a low cholesterol diet, I asked her if she had Egg-Beaters or Egg-Substitute. The answer was an abrupt and unfriendly No. So I continued to go on and said further:"Can you make my eggs with egg whites?" After a strange look from the female, like what the hell are you talking about, she said NO, we cannot do that either. She went on to say all of our eggs are premixed. I went on to say:"So you're telling me that you are in the dining service and you're not willing and it is too much to expect of you to crack a few eggs open for a customer to accommodate them?" She stood there with no response what so ever with a dumbfounded look on her face and amazement. Almost as if though she were thinking in her mind "How dare you ask me to do such a thing!" All I could do is roll my eyes in disgust. I mean, "C' mon people. You're running a restaurant and you're a proprietor and your to frikkin lazy or don't know how to crack three or four eggs in half and do not know how to separate the egg white from the Yolk?" GIVE ME A BREAK In my opinion, not a place that will be around too long. Not only that, but 99% of all restaurants all over serve eggbeaters as an alternative or are willing to make egg white dishes for the customers. I give this place a complete thumbs down. My advice to the establishment; Learn how to accommodate your potential customers.No wonder the place was dead and nobody was in there. With service like this who would want to be. Worst restaurant ever. The staff did not want to be there. They looked soooo miserable. It took forever to get our food and it really sucked. The fries were so greasy, we just left them.
