He immediately recognized that the medication I had previously been prescribed by my regular doctor was making my condition worse and prescribed the correct treatment instead. That alone meant a lot, and it made a huge difference in my recovery. I later returned for my annual exam and updated prescription, and once again had an excellent experience. Dr. Moyer is professional, knowledgeable, and efficient, yet never makes you feel rushed. You can tell he genuinely cares about his patients. The staff was just as wonderful--friendly, welcoming, and helpful from the moment I walked in. I left feeling confident, cared for, and grateful. She is excluded from the rest of these comments. The glasses specialist has a salesman personality, but seems kind. Dr. Daniel O'Dowd is rude, cocky, and does not even listen to his patients. He told me I needed glasses to see all the time, which is a flat lie (you are not required to wear glasses if you have 20/40 vision in one or both eyes in NC). Basically, they knew I did not have experience with eye care professionals and took advantage. I purchased glasses because I believed them. I called to cancel the next morning (I had a late morning appointment - so not even 24 hours later) and they refused to give me a full refund. Claimed there was a restocking fee. They also gave me a hard time getting my prescription. When I read the prescription, I found out that it was for no magnification at all. They will lie, scam you, and take advantage. They will not listen to you, and I am not even sure they did the exam properly. I went to another doctor (not affiliated with this franchise) and found out I have 20/40 vision (20/30 if I strain, but should not do that), but can read 20/20 when using both eyes together and that there is just not a prescription small enough to help me. Do yourself a favor, don't believe them like I did and suffer. Find you a better doctor that actually cares about their patients. Find people that will not lie and take advantage. Either the eyecarecenter TEAM does not care about their patients at all OR they are incompetent and should not be in their respective professions. The office manager will not help you. The glasses guy is just a salesman and this team is PUSHING the sale of glasses - no matter if you need them or not. DO NOT GO HERE, JUST FIND ACTUAL PROFESSIONALS THAT CAN HELP YOU SOMEWHERE ELSE.

I faithfully paid the amount they determined for each visit. They finally, after many visits, determined that I needed an expensive surgery and the whole situation changed. The office manager never sent me a statement for the surgery and when I went in for one of my follow up appointments from the procedure she denied me access to the doctor and my appointments until I paid in full. She was rude and embarrassed me in front of the entire waiting room which was very unprofessional. I had to sell my personal heirlooms to come up with the cash to pay for the surgery because she would not entertain the idea of me paying payments. After all that, my eye sight is no better and I have gained an astronomical hospital bill to boot.

Being I couldn't make my eye exam appointment by the end of the year (2024) and didn't want to lose my $300 insurance allowance on new glasses, I called the Smithfield office and explained my situation and asked if I could get a copy of my last eye prescription from 2023 so I could at least go get a new set of glasses and not lose my $300 allowance and I explained that my vision was good and hadn't changed over the past year. I had also explained that I had called another Eye Care Center to ask if they allowed this and the lady at the other office explained that they had done that before and it was usually up to the eye doctor. The lady at the Smithfield office rudely said "sir I don't think we do that at which I explained that I had contacted another office who said they they had issued a prescription in the past bu it would be up to the eye doctor! Again in a rude vo she said I don't think we do it at which I asked that she ask the eye doctor to see because of my situation. At this point I knew it wasn't going to happen based on her attitude and when she said that he was busy and that she would have to call me back. After a day and a half I hadn't heard back so I called back and asked if she had talked with the doctor and she said he said no he wouldn't, I would need to come in for an eye exam which I ex again it wasn't possibly! Over the past 3 months they have called and worried the mess out of me once a week trying to schedule my eye exam and this is even with me blocking their number but they can still leave a message. So with times already being tough due to the economy they caused me to lose $300 to get a much needed new pair of glasses. Never will I use Eye Care Center or recommend them to anyone. The eye doctor could have shown some compassion and written me a prescription but was selfish and chose not to. They don't really acknowledge you when you come in unless you say hello first. They are not rude, just not friendly either. And expect to wait a while. Even if your appointment is first thing in the morning, the waiting room will be packed with numerous people having the same appointment time. Just when you think they are going to see you, they take you to a smaller waiting room to wait some more. But overall, solely on the aspect of the surgery, I strongly recommend this office. Dr. Dornic has won numerous awards for what he's done and I have no complaints about him.
