Having perfect vision is a dream come true! I've been wearing glasses/contacts as a child, and I guess the past few years has been my nudge to just get through my bucket list. Correcting my vision was one of them. I knew I wanted/needed LASIK but wasn't serious until this year. I shopped around a bit and scheduled several consultations. What stood out about Travers LASIK is that Dr. Lori Travers performs all of her surgeries herself and has completed over 60,000 surgeries. Impressive. I've learned that when it comes to health you should always choose a doctor who is an EXPERT at their field, and hyper focused on one thing, not dipping their hand at the pot with 5 different things. Her credentials along with her extremely well run office was the reason I chose Travers LASIK over the other options in the Triangle. To note however; Travers is a smidge more costly than the others but you are paying for precision and you're paying for her 20+ years of experience, which is well worth its weight in gold imo. After the surgery, I came out with 20/15 vision, which is better than 20/20 vision. Here was my experience and here are the things I learned. Yes, you do spend a lot of time at the free LASIK consultations and the surgery day itself, as they need to perform tests and take pictures of your eyes with many different devices and expect to see A LOT of people at every appointment. Yes, it does feel like an assembly line / factory but honestly, I was okay with that. I wasn't there to socialize nor did I feel the need to chit chat beyond what I was there for. Everyone was professional, kind and very knowledgeable. I barely spoke to Dr. Travers, the majority of the time I spent talking with her team from one test to another. I only met Dr. Travers in the surgery room and she asked if I had any questions and explained mono vision to me (although I ended up going with distance vision) and I was in and out of the surgery room within less than 10 minutes, as advertised. The actual procedure: If you can't sit still and focus, LASIK might not be for you. (I learned that people with diabetes and/or hormonal changes, pregnant, etc.. shouldn't also have LASIK either) Recovery: from all the reading and research and asking people about LASIK, no one really talks about the recovery. People usually rave about the results which while are impressive, it's important to know what to expect also. After the surgery, you are sent away with plastic shields taped to your face to protect your eyes (and prevent you from touching them) and are directed to sleep when you get home. I couldn't sleep for 6 hours as they suggest, and probably slept for about 3. Your eyes feel very tired and your eyelids feel glued due to the stickiness and crust forming in your eyes. It's annoying to not be able to clean your eyes due to the shields that can't be taken off until the very next morning. You just have to deal with it. The next morning, you take off the shields and your new life begins, you should be able to see very clearly, it's remarkable! One thing to note also is that after age 40, they made it very clear that you might have to use readers (reading glasses) as LASIK is unable to correct near vision, which is natural -- and inevitable with age. I am now 1 week post surgery and am doing excellent. I can see far away and feel like a new person just about. I do still wear (blue light) glasses to reduces eye strain while on the computer which is fine by me, I just love having vision for distance that isn't dependent on glasses. I use eyedrops on my eyes extremely often however, because I want the healing of my cornea's to go as smooth as possible. I expect to taper off in about 3 or 6 months, as needed. Two week update: while I can generally see well, sometimes things far away that I'd expect to be able to read, are blurry. I've read this is normal until the eye completely heals. Also, nighttime driving isn't superb, and things are not as crisp either. I am hoping over the next month that will sort itself out also and that I can see more clearly also. If you're considering or on the fence, go for a free consultation.. you'll learn a lot about your eyes! And hopefully you're a candidate, and hopefully you'll take the leap of faith! Disclaimer: as with any surgery, there are always risks and sometimes short term, and occasional long term side effects. Dry eyes, halos, starbursts, non-crisp night vision, etc. I personally understood all the risks and went with it. I had both of my eyes lasered by Dr. Travers at least fifteen years ago and it was the best thing I could have ever done. The procedure just feels like some pressure then before you know it - it's over. The ride home was bright and a bit blurry, but I was confident it would all work out in the end. They recommend you get some rest to let the eyes heal and when I woke up, I couldn't believe by better that perfect vision. When I went back for the follow-up, I had 20/30 vision. Meaning I could see 30 feet clearly rather than just 20/20. After doing research this is all fine and has been for fifteen years. I highly recommend Dr. Laurie Travers and her staff!! I have been following her and noticed all of her decades of experience and accolades, so although I had some reservations, felt comfortable to finally proceed. From initial contact to post surgery, the staff was above friendly and on point with communication. I was especially impressed that Dr. Travers contacts each patient after their initial consultation to see if she can answer any questions. It felt very personal! As for the procedure, have to say I was very uncomfortable after surgery, but the procedure itself was a breeze. Was able to finally get to sleep for several hours & woke up with amazing vision. I had planned on shopping around before I had my PRK surgery because these are the only eyes I have and vision is kind of a big deal, Travers was the first place I contacted and after my consultation I knew that I'd be wasting my time to go anywhere else. I'm so thoroughly impressed with everyone involved, each and every person was exceptional. They are just fun, nice, kind, and organized people, I had a great experience with everybody that I spoke to. Dr. Travers impressed me a lot, very direct and clinical which I really appreciate. I came here to get my eyes fixed by a very talented professional and that's exactly what I got. There is a less than positive review here that I want to address - regarding cold bedside manner. I think that the reviewer had unrealistic expectations and I'm just guessing here but I imagine they acted like a child to get the outcome they experienced. You're going to get eye surgery, it's serious and you should be prepared for it mentally before you arrive. The fact that this reviewer wanted more Valium and did not receive it speaks volumes. Don't let that review color your impression of this Doctor or her practice, I think you'd have a very difficult time finding a better place to get your eyes fixed. Very frustrating experience! Please consider these things before considering Lasik here. When I began considering Lasik, I was impressed by the many great reviews that Travers had and booked an appointment. I was able to get in pretty quickly and was told I was a great candidate for Lasik. While I only met Dr. Travers for a few minutes before the surgery, I figured anyone who does this many Lasik procedures could probably do it in their sleep. Well, fast forward to the day of the appointment, I was told last minute that I would need to drive to a building nearby to get the surgery. When I got there, there were others waiting for their turn, and at this point, it started to feel like herding cattle as everything seemed so rushed. I was instructed to lie down and "look at the light," and the procedure began. She looked at my eyes afterward for a few seconds and told me I could go. It just felt really rushed and impersonal. My eyes burned and teared for hours afterwards, which I was told was normal. The next day, I could see better than I had before without glasses, but honestly, that's it. 3 days later, I noticed that I had trouble seeing text on TVs, terrible night vision, and blurriness. At my week's follow-up, I could barely see the top line of the line chart, which I told the assistant and the doctor. They all insisted it would get better as my eyes heal. Well, to be honest, it never got better. I was really hopeful but I'm more than a year out and still have trouble seeing text on TVs, reading signs in the airport or on the streets, and this is hard in low light settings (making night time driving EXTREMELY difficult). I even almost couldn't pass the sight test at the DMV. That's when I decided to get glasses again, which I am thankful for, but it's disheartening. I also now have chronic dry eyes, which require lots of drops, lubricants, and procedures to help with comfort, which cost way more than I've ever paid for glasses or contacts. I didn't realize how intrusive dry eye can be in day to day task until now. I have halos and starburst still. Travers offered an enhancement for an additional $350, but after talking to two separate doctors at 2 different practices, I was told this was not a good idea. I canceled the enhancement appointment with Travers, and the receptionist seemed relieved that she wouldn't have to deal with it, which was off-putting to me. All in all, I spent $4300 for the procedure, now have dry eyes, and still need glasses. I'm surprised by all of the reviews, but you do get free stuff for reviewing. Literally everyone I know who's had Lasik at other places have all had nothing but good things to say about Lasik and didn't need enhancements a year out so I'm truly confused as I followed all of the instructions and was told I was a good candidate. If I could do it over, I would NOT have gotten this done here or at the very least went somewhere like Duke to get a second opinion or got a referral from a trusted optometrist before agreeing to anything. First you should know that the reason Travers has so many reviews is because at your consultation they offer you a free bottle of lubricating tears or T-shirt if you leave a review. Obviously if you want to pick it up at your next appointment you leave a review after your consultation and before the actual procedure. My consultation was definitely a 5 star experience but my surgery day was a 1 star. They do lots of tests at your consultation. When I went for my surgery day of I had my eyesight tested by a doctor I hadn't met before. He did the tests where you compare options 1 versus 2 and pick the best option. He put up some letters for read and asked me to read the smallest line I could. I couldn't read ANY. Every line was blurry. He then told me something along the lines of "well that's weird... this is the prescription you picked as the best at your consultation." I told him I had been wearing old prescription glasses for a week leading up to surgery day and he said that shouldn't make a difference. He then started testing different options and at one point two were very similar so I said "I THINK 2 is better than 3." He kind of snapped at me and said "you THINK 2 is better than 3 or you KNOW that? That doesn't help me." Then throughout the testing he kept making comments to himself saying "this isn't matching up to what you had last time..." he had terrible bedside table manners. Finally he's like "okay you're good you can wait outside." So I ask him "how am I good? I literally can't read the prescription I chose last time?" He said something along the lines of "oh no I got your eyes back to where they needed to be" and shooed me out. I don't know about you but before I spend $4,200 and cut open my eyes I want to know WHY my vision was affected so drastically between appointments. They brought me to a waiting room before the surgery and I literally started crying and demanded I talk to someone because I wasn't comfortable going through with the procedure without an explanation. Side note: I do not cry. Last time I cried was when my dog of 18 years died a year ago. This doctor upset me and stressed me out SO much I embarrassingly cried in front of a stranger. Anyways, a different lady came inside and explained that everything was fine and they run lots of tests to ensure everything will be okay. However she still couldn't give me a technical reason why my eyesight would change SO much so quickly. I was still not satisfied so she said I could talk to the doctor. So I go into the room for the surgery and Travers essentially said everything was fine and that being nervous can affect your eyesight. But I wasn't nervous until the doctor started making comments saying my eyesight has changed. I eventually was so tired I gave in and got the surgery. She didn't even ask me if I had any questions before the surgery, she just told me my eyes fluctuating is normal and told me to lay down. I am now a month and a half into my new eyesight and it's terrible. I'm currently writing this review in the airport and I can barely read signs or gate numbers. I use eye drops a lot and they barely help. I know they say it takes 3 months for your eyes to heal fully but so far picking travers has been the worst decision of my life. I am so disappointed because I decided to get lasik before my wedding in a couple months but now I won't be able to see well. After my surgery I talked to a friend whose eye doctor strongly recommends NOT going to travers because it is a "commercial" Lasik center. Wish I knew that beforehand. I picked travers because of all of the reviews but turns out everyone just wants free eye drops and T-shirt's instead of giving their honest opinion. If my eyesight actually gets better in a month I will update my review. But day of treatment still deserves 1 star. (Update: I am now over 3 months into my Lasik and according to my normal eye doctor I am reading 20/60 and don't have dry eyes. I actually need a prescription for -0.75 and -0.5 to see clearly. I had to essentially beg Travers to see me for an appointment because she told me I was "in my head" and also said "I think you're just trying to find reasons why this isn't working for you" and "I think you want perfection but at Travers we don't strive for perfection." My suggestion, don't go to ANY doctor that says "we don't strive for perfection." I am so incredibly disappointed in my experience and the way I have been treated after I gave them my money. read more

Where do I even begin with this nightmare? I opted for monovision so that I'd be able to see up close and far without glasses or contacts. I'd been wearing monovision contacts for years without any issues whatsoever except the hassle of wearing contacts and associated eye issues (e.g. occasional corneal abrasion). Unfortunately, BOTH of my eyes were over-corrected by Dr. Travers, and I walked out not being able to see. This, in and of itself, was beyond frightening, disappointing, and frustrating. I could have gotten through this more easily had Dr. Travers been pleasant, kind, professional, reassuring; she was not and she is not. She has a horrible bedside manner. She is gruff, she is rude, and she is unprofessional. As an example, during the procedure, i was told to "be still, I'm about to stick a knife in your eye." Yes, she said that. Within a few days after the first procedure, it was clear i couldn't see and an error had occurred. I tried to tell them something was wrong. When I made an appointment to return to the office, I was irritably asked, "Why are you here???" I guess it was then that they realized both of my eyes were over- corrected. I even frankly asked them had they operated on the right patient, which brings me to another point - a safety point. I'm in health Care. I never once heard any verification during the procedure that Dr. Travers was performing the correct treatment on the correct eye. This is standard in any surgery. To make a long story short, I went to a well-known institution afterwards for a second opinion. It was confirmed that both eyes had been over-corrected. This institution offered to redo the surgery in six months and I made an appointment. I asked Travers for a refund and shared the records from this other institution. Refund denied. Would not even provide a partial refund. I ultimately had to return to Dr. Travers for a second surgery to correct at least one eye so i could see to be able to work. Otherwise, I would have been out the entire 4200.00, could not see, and would have had to pay this other institution about the same to have the surgery re-done. So, I had no choice but to let Dr. Travers re-lasik my eyes. Am I able to see now? Yes, and no. Only one eye was re-corrected. The second one was left in the over-corrected state. Mostly, I can see okay but not nearly as well or as clear as with my contact lenses. Do I regret the procedure? No - i had a fear of developing Alzheimer's or otherwise becoming incapacitated and not being able to see. My mom has dementia. I wanted to be able to wake up in the mornings and be able to rely on my sight. I can do that. Would I get Lasik done by Dr. Travers or recommend this practice? Not a chance. It's nothing but a money-making (hand over fist at $4200 for 3 seconds) lasik mill and it is very very clear that Dr. Travers hates her job and has no true regard for her patients or their vision. read more

Let me start off by saying that I suffer from actual, diagnosed, acute social anxiety. And I don't take meds for it. So, the following review puts a curve on the experience: perception vs. reality, accounting for my natural reaction of "Dear God, get me out of this waiting room, now! If I spend one more second in this waiting room, I'm going to burst through their window, and have to reimburse them for the insurance costs." AND my brain's autonomic reaction of "Who are all these new people, and how should I react to them? I know...I'll just spaz the hell out and hope they can cope without reacting to the fact that I'm twitching about like someone who is on meth." You probably know Lori Travers from all the commercials on the radio, television, and any other media that can be utilized to persuade you to go to her office. And you've probably wondered "With all that advertising, is it any good? Does it really do the trick? Will they cut off my eyeballs and leave me blind?" Bottom line: Yes. Yes. And no to the blindness. If you read no further, pay the money, ignore your crazy anxiety about having your vision irreparably screwed and have the surgery. The following is what you should expect, start to finish. The initial consultation: You'll schedule an appointment. You'll show up and receive an eye exam, which will involve some rather complex machinery that doesn't make an appearance in your normal optometrist's office. This will be taken care of by a nice office staff who are constantly moving. More on that in a minute. You'll wait some more time, and be seen by another ophthalmologist who isn't Dr. Travers. Get used to it. If you want face time with Dr. Travers, schedule surgery. Otherwise, the rest of the people you will meet are more than capable of handling your questions and concerns. Once they've determined the surgery(s) you are eligible for, based on the workup, you'll go to a consult. They'll ask if you have any questions. And in a low-pressure sort of way, they'll ask if you'd like to book a spot. Personally, I knew I would get this surgery from the start, so I was sold before I even came in. There would be no deviation. Do I have to jump in front of a car first? If so, how much does it hurt? Pricing: They let you know how much it is from the moment you come in the door. The $999 per eye deal is for PRK, which is a very effective, but much older laser surgery, that has a much longer recovery time. One full month, to be exact. And that's a nope, nope, nope for me. The Z-Lasik, which was my surgery is ~1800 per eye, at current time of surgery. They do offer 0% APR financing through a third party, for as long as 36 mos., so it is do-able. And I recommend doing it, as it will cost you the same as a yearly eye exam, and a new set of lenses ...or less...over the next 10 years or so. The Day of Surgery: I scheduled my surgery for the very next day. Originally, I was a week out, but I moved it up, because I was scared that I might back out if I didn't do it ASAP. I arrived at about 2:30 in the afternoon. They nicely called, and let me know they were running about 30 minutes behind schedule. Which gave me a bit more time to relax at home. Upon arrival, one of the doctors took me to the back room, to make sure my vision readings were the same as the prior day. I was within the range of tolerance, so I went back the waiting room. I waited there for nearly 1.5 hours. After that time, I was escorted to a smaller waiting room with a television, snacks and water. I sat there for 30 mins, immanently more comfortable than in the general waiting room. They told me there were two people ahead of me. About five minutes before the surgery, a technician came in to tell me to take the Valium tab they prescribed. The surgery: Finally, I met Dr. Travers. And yes, she is nothing like the commercials. For that, I am thankful. Because I don't want anything but a serious, focused person working on my eyes. She was cordial, but she ain't Seinfeld. And I don't want a surgeon doing high stakes surgery on my eyes who is. The stakes are three grand in cash, plus my sight. Last Comic Standing is $128 for great seats. You want warm fuzzies, go there. She went through my questionnaire quickly, along with my medical history, and we went straight to the table. I was escorted from the room to the OR, where they put numbing drops on my eyes, and stuck me under the laser. Fifteen minutes later, I was done. I now have 20/15 vision. No regrets. Synopsis/Pros/Cons: + Fast, efficient service + Fair Pricing + Flexible financing - If you're expecting a "personalized, white glove service" from end-to-end: Fuggedaboudit - This is a high volume, reasonably priced service, with great results. Lori Travers performed my LASIK procedure in early January and I was very impressed by the office, the staff and the overall quality of care I received as her patient. When you arrive for your free consultation, you'll receive a folder stocked with TONS of information about the surgery itself, Dr. Travers and her practice, post-op care and financing options. The consultation is extremely thorough. The nurses (I'm sure that's not the correct term... optometrists? doctor's assistants?) run you through a half dozen machines that test all aspects of your vision. They are patient when you inevitably blink and have to redo a test, and always happy to answer questions and put you at ease. I went in for free consultations at 3 practices in the Triangle area, and ultimately decided to schedule my surgery with Dr. Travers for the following three reasons: 1) Professionalism -- Every staff member I met was kind and enthusiastic. The office was organized and clean. Dr. Travers was out of the office the day I went in for my consultation, but took time to call me later that week and ask if I had any further questions. She was very friendly and I felt zero pressure to commit to surgery. Additionally, Dr. Travers has performed tens of thousands of LASIK surgeries and knows exactly what she was doing. 2) Price -- Offered the lowest price for the procedure (Custom Wavefront Z-LASIK, or something like that) compared to the other 2 places. Basically, Travers offers a special promotion price that can NOT be combined with insurance discounts like Blue Cross or VSP (that way they don't have to hassle with filing claims). Even after multiple insurance discounts at the other 2 practices, Travers' promotional price was still $200 cheaper. The cost includes all follow-up appointments (I think this is standard for most LASIK places). 3) Convenience -- The office is no more than 5-10 minutes away from my house, close to both 40 and 440. I left the office with the medication prescriptions needed for post-op. They also dilated my eyes during the consultation so there was no need to return until the day of surgery. I would hands down recommend Dr. Travers for Lasik. After reading mixed reviews honestly I was a little nervous just going in to the consultation. Immediately upon walking in I felt at ease with everyone I interacted with at the office there. The day after my consultation Dr. Travers actually called me to go over my charts and ask if I had any questions, which I thought was a nice touch and made me feel like they cared. After visiting another office for a Lasik consultation I knew as soon as I walked out that Travers was the way to go. I got Lasik on this past Friday, slept for a couple hours after the procedure as they recommend, woke up and could see perfectly! I was, and still am AMAZED at how clearly I can see everything. Dr. Travers talks you through the entire process which I really appreciated so you knew exactly what to expect. The other doctors you interact with for follow-up and the consultation are very knowledgeable, but even better they are so personable and have a great sense of humor, which is perfect when you're facing something a little scary. Wow is all I can say! Dr Lori Travers and her staff are nothing short of amazing. From the consultation to the actual procedure they exceeded all of my expectations! My vision was 20/400 before procedure the next day I was 20/20 and one week later I am 20/15 in both eyes!! Put all your fears and concerns to rest I was afraid to go through with this procedure but Travers Lasik is absolutely the best! I have been dependent on contacts for over 15 yrs and now I feel like I am brand new. As a performer/entertainer I can't express how frustrating it is to go out and perform losing contact lenses or having them roll up in the back of your eye's:( If your considering Lasik in my opinion Dr Lori Travers is and should be your choice! Travers Lasik is absolutely the best! I was treated great from beginning to end and I've gotten extremely good results. I am over 50 and I now have fantastic vision in both eyes, so this worked very well for me! I had been wearing contacts and glasses for over 15 years. As a firefighter I was tired of dealing with sleeping in contacts every other night and hated wearing glasses. If you have spent your life in glasses this is totally worth it. I got my procedure done about a month ago and I still haven't got use to the fact that these are my eyes. Sometimes I feel like I still need to take my contacts out. The office has a very friendly staff. They are very busy and you get the feeling you are just next in line in the waiting room but once you get to one on one time it feels very focused on you and your questions are welcomed. The surgery itself is a little nerve racking, you know, because its only your sight! it took like 5 minutes once I was on the table. I would recommend bringing a dark shirt or something to cover your head on the ride home because your eyes are extremely agitated and sensitive to light. Go to sleep as quick as possible! I slept for about 6 hours and then I woke up no pain and I could see!! read more

Got Lasik surgery this early this year. I heard so many negative reviews via internet regarding getting any type of eye surgery, before making the decision to go forward with the surgery. For example, one of the most common complaint I kept hearing was about dry eyes being a big problem after surgery. I had the surgery done at Travers Lasik Vision Care a few months ago and I consider this one of the best decisions I have made. I have been wearing glasses/contacts my whole life---- now I am glasses and contact free. I would recommend this Vision center specifically to anyone. I had my surgery with Travers Lasik in January. My flex plan had just renewed so I knew exactly what I wanted to do with the money. I wore contacts and glasses for 15 years before I had finally had enough. I was tired of not being able to see when I woke up. If I lost a contact lens while on vacation (happened twice) and forgot an extra set then I had to wear my glasses the whole time. That's not fun at the beach! Deciding to have LASIK was the easiest decision I have ever made. Now I just needed to decide on a surgeon. I went for 2 other consults with other doctors. Their consult was only minutes. I spent almost 2 hours at Travers Lasik so I felt WAY more confident in their diagnosis and treatment plan. It didn't hurt that their price was about $200-$400 less than what I had been quoted elsewhere. The day of treatment was exciting! I was nervous but their staff and doctors are so much fun! I was brought right back to repeat some testing and then saw a doctor. I waited a few minutes and then they brought me back to get me ready. I watched TV in a pretty private little waiting room with my girlfriend until it was my turn. Then they knocked and it was time to go! I met Dr. Travers and she was so friendly. She was just what I had expected. Very thorough in her exam and conversational. We had light conversation during the procedure. I didn't feel a thing except some pressure for a few seconds. It was over before I knew it! She finished up her exam, they put some shields on me and she even took a picture with me when I was done! I went home and slept for a few hours. I woke up feeling great and seeing like I was wearing contacts! It was amazing! We spent a few minutes testing my new vision...how many fingers? What's this say?....read this... You know...everything that you could have wanted to read and see before but couldn't. I could see everything! I'm a couple of weeks out now and there is no looking back! I love it. After waiting a reasonable time for my appointment, I was escorted to a more intimate waiting room where I was donned with a plastic cap and given a sedative. I waited in this small room with 2 chairs for two more hours before being brought into the operating room. The first notable things I recall about my conversation with Lori was that she referenced the wrong eye that we would be doing surgery on and that she seemed stressed and not the same pleasant person I had seen on the video. My overall impressions in the operating room were that the staff was behind schedule and that there was a lot of tension amongst the 4 -6 people present. As I was seated a man came to put numbing drops in my eye but did it with such haste that most of what came out of the bottle, just ran down the side of my nose. I felt very uneasy that if that was what was going to numb my eye, I wasn't confident that I would be getting any of that effect given the delivery! They assured me it was fine. When I laid down on the operating table nothing other than "look at the green dot" was said and I was immediately unnerved that the surgeon would not say something to the effect of "I'm going to start by doing this... or "you will feel me doing this..." but rather began putting something into my eye that I later described felt like a plastic spoon. Everything up to this point felt wrong to me and when I did not see a green light to look at which was my only instruction, I began to feel panic set in. I felt like a plastic spoon was being pushed down under my lower eyelid and I wasn't sure if I was supposed to be feeling it - and if I was, was she really not going to mention it to me beforehand? Between this and the nonexistence of the green light, I took a very deep breath and crossed my arms across my chest in an effort to calm myself. I will not say they were rude, but very stern that I was not to reach my hands up near the equipment that had been lowered over my body and was asked to put my hands under my butt if I thought I was unable to control myself. The little voice inside me that had been saying "this doesn't feel right" was now shouting "girl, you need to get the hell on outta' here!!" which is what I did. My impression of how they felt about me getting up and not going through with the procedure was that I had disrupted their schedule and waisted peoples time. In my opinion, an average dentist has more compassion and bedside manner filling a cavity than this team of doctors messing in someones eye who has never done this before. I was taken to a separate room where I was told (not by Lori - I never saw her again) that they didn't feel that this type of surgery was appropriate for what I was looking to accomplish. Really? Because three hours ago you ran my credit card for $1,800 and told me it was going to be the greatest thing ever!! read more

After two consultations/evaluations at Travers (not by Lori, but by other doctors there), I was excited to go through with the procedure. I have high myopia and astigmatism, but they felt I was a very good candidate. I scheduled time off work, as I would be having PRK which can have some vision fluctuation in the first week, and felt extremely positive about the procedure. However, the day of, I had a very similar situation to the other 1 star review here. It was as though I was inconveniencing Dr. Lori because I wasn't behaving placidly like she wanted. Her bedside manner is terrible. She had no care that I was experiencing an unusually high level of anxiety ( which was probably due to the fact that the valium they gave me was not strong enough for my psychological profile - I felt completely lucid). When I told her my heart was beating kind of fast and what she was doing (pressing something down on my eye -- she didn't explain to me what it was) hurt a lot, she asked me if I would like to sit up for a second. I said yes. I wanted to just speak to her and have her walk me through what to expect, which would've calmed me down -- even without additional valium (which I overheard one of the nurses say I needed). But instead, I was ushered out to another room and yes, told that nowI wasn't a good candidate and that no, I could not speak to the doctor. That I could not reschedule or take a higher dose of valium. This makes me think this place, while I'm certain producing great results for a lot of people, is more like a machine. And if you need a bit more care and handholding than you would get from, say, a robot -- this place is not for you. I will say that her staff is wonderful. But if you need a caring communicative doctor, do not let them mislead you, because that is not what you will get from Lori Travers. read more

I went in for an initial consult today and expected to visit 2 other doctors' offices. That is now unnecessary. The receptionist greeted me warmly, even telling me that her father's name was also Van (there's not many of us so it's nice to know I'm not the only one who was named after a vehicle ... and yes, the playground during elementary school was a battleground.) Megan brought me back to begin the ocular diagnosis and couldn't have possibly been nicer. Dr. Aimee Haswell then performed several more tests and brightened up my day even more, answering every question I had while telling me how much she loved her dog .... another personal, shared bonding experience. Then I met Amy who helped me with scheduling and payment options. She was a delight and pleasure to be around as well, joking that I'd be a pirate soon because I only need my right eye corrected.... we both said "Arrrrgh" at the exact same time and then connected on a well-timed high five. Dr. Travers wasn't in the office when I was there. However, she called me on her personal cell phone (before I drove the 4.4 miles to my home) to introduce herself and answer any questions I had .... she was professional, personable, and sincerely caring while she talked with me for 15 minutes ... even though I knew she likely had a myriad of other tasks that needed her attention. She, like every other staff member and opthalmologist I met, truly made their utmost effort to inform me thoroughly while engaging me personally and putting my fears to rest. I don't ever remember enjoying a doctor's visit of any kind, much less one preceding a surgery. I felt like a VIP who continually ran into lifelong friends along the way. The staff is the most effective, efficient, personable, enjoyable and funny I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I say this even though the tests required my eyes to be dilated, which I truly despise. In sum, I was probably unreasonably nervous about the surgery but the staff and Dr. Travers has completely put my mind at ease by connecting with me on a personal level and answering every question I had and some that I didn't even think of. I wanted to give it a few months before I wrote a review for Travers Lasik. It's been almost 7 months since I had the procedure done and I couldn't be happier. I am now 20/20 both eyes, 20/15 in my left eye. I always contemplated getting it done, but didn't jump on it until a friend of mine went to Travers and recommended it. Care Credit was offering 12 months 0% interest when he got it done, and 6 months when I got it done. I just paid it off last month and while I'm not sure how much money this will actually save me compared to contact lenses (lenses, solution, etc.), it is definitely much more convenient. I wore the night & day contacts so it would be even more convenient for those who take their contacts out every night and put them in every morning. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because during my initial consultation, they told me that insurance would not be cheaper than what they already offer. After speaking with my vision insurance, I found out that I would save around $400 with them. I then called Travers back and they stated that since I didn't book the initial consultation through my insurance, they would probably charge me and not honor the discounted price. This was not true. After much back and forth with Travers and my vision insurance, Travers finally accepted my insurance quote. For the day of the surgery, they have you take a Xanax prior to the surgery. I was a little disappointed in that I didn't feel it made a huge difference. Then again, I wasn't freaking out like another patient who chain smoked the entire time. The actual surgery with Dr. Travers went really well. It felt like it took maybe 5 minutes, if that. Yes, they tape your eyes open and yes, this suction thing sucks on your eyeball but hey...it's 5 minutes of "discomfort". Wasn't painful at all. After surgery, they tape eye shields on your eyes and send you back into the waiting room where your ride drives you home. My eyes didn't hurt, but every time I opened them in the car, I experienced much watering. I think they were just super sensitive to the light. When I got home, I took the other Xanax as recommended by them and slept for hours. Recovery is easy and short. While you do have to frequently put the prescribed and OTC drops in, I was back to work on Monday (surgery was on Friday). read more

I was incredibly nervous to get LASIK but the staff was incredibly helpful and professional and walked me through the whole thing . Everyone was very kind and took the time to answer all of my questions.
