Dr. Chung is an amazing doctor, I have been going here for many years now. Unfortunately I will have to say that the staff hasn't been the most helpful or supportive, especially in the most recent years, but I hate to give this office a bad review because the doctors have been great once you get to actually see them . I'm sure the staff is overwhelmed with all the things. But nothing a little give and take of Jesus grace can't fix. read more

UNPROFESSIONAL HACKS Made an urgent appointment as a result of sudden sight loss and filled out a bunch of forms online, then I received numerous text messages reminding me to make an appointment?!?! After the fourth one, I called the office and was assured that I was on the schedule. At 2:34 on 03 July, some barely literate person leaves a gruff message, "We gonna need to cancel that appointment..." I called back 4 minutes later and continued to do so until 5:00, the phone was never answered. Their office was apparently also closed on 07 July as I called them over a dozen times throughout the day starting at 9:00 AM to no avail. All of this effort on my part to re-schedule a time-sensitive appointment that THEY cancelled. With something as important as your vision and the stress associated with having to seek treatment, you owe it to yourself to go to a professional organization - Raleigh Ophthalmology is not. They do not care about their patients or their wellbeing. They are instead a bunch unaccomplished "doctors" and booger eating support staff who are just out to make a buck. read more

After reading all the reviews, I went to my appointment expecting the worst service ever. I'm glad it was completely the opposite, I arrived about 15 minutes before my appointment and I was called in at my appointment time. The staff were great. We took our child to Raleigh Ophthalmology for his annual eye exam. Their website states that they take our insurance, and during scheduling and check-in they advised that our insurance was acceptable (United Healthcare)...fast forward a couple months and we are sent a $500 bill because it turns out they don't! When contacting their office - which was nearly impossible due to wait times and off-shore call center - we were rudely greeted and constantly pushed to the side. We were told that our account was put on hold for investigation, but later found this was never the case as we got threatening messages about our account being sent to collections. I would certainly never recommend this practice to anyone and encourage against it. I thought maybe ours was a one-off incident...but seeing the reviews here proves otherwise. read more

Excellent care but the building while very nice poses a few challenges to the accessible challenged person- a good bit of walking and this building houses other businesses- once you get inside you go through another door which does not automatically open & bathrooms a little bit of a challenge- the service is awesome. The dr and most of the staff kind considerate- addresses people preferred name. I am very pleased and grateful for the eye care provided to a family member. The service is not professional.They never forward your information from your exam to your primary care doctor. You are not told in advance knowing your condition that there would be an extra charge for example a glaucoma test which should be part of your regular exam. The doctor is impersonal and rushes through. The wait to be seen is unreasonable. It looks like they overbook to make more money and not have the patient's best interest in mind. I will not be returning and have made an appointment with another practice. read more

I rarely read others reviews before posting, but my experience was so different than the low ratings I saw, I couldn't help but double check to see if I chose the correct practice. I came to Raleigh Ophthalmology for my mom. The only minor complaint might be that they are scheduled out quite some time. I often take that as, it's a popular, well sought out practice (kind of like a great restaurant you where can't get same week reservations). The building lobby and reception area were clean and easy to find where to go. The front desk staff were professional and very nice. I don't know if the staff has changed or if the other reviewers are just mean but, every single interaction I had was good. There was a Shooting Illustrated magazine in the lobby that I wasn't thrilled about but hey I'm there to have the health of my moms eyes checked, move on. The initial screens with the technician went smooth. It seemed the technology and systems all worked well, no awkward waiting. The doctor was direct, told us what was next for treatment and we went on our way. We did schedule a couple follow up appointments for treatment and that did take a few minutes. That said, scheduling is a process! I know because I used to do this type of work. Personally I'd rather get it scheduled right than get a call a few weeks from now that I was incorrectly scheduled (which happens at the doctor sometimes). The staffer apologized a few times and that made me sad thinking, I know the public can be impatient and unkind. The staff was awesome and I hope they are valued there. read more

Dr Hoffman was excellent. He took time and was very thorough as was the other medical staff. However, the clerical staff left something to be desired. My appointment and the appointment of another person was scheduled at a time ahead of the hours of operation of the business so we waited outside about 15-20 minutes before being allowed inside. And now we have received a bill for an additional amount even though I paid the co-pay. I've never had this happen with other ophthalmologists so I question whether the insurance claim was properly filed. Due to these situations we won't be going back. So sad as Dr Hoffman and the medical staff were wonderful.* read more

M 1st visit was on 1/16/2025 referred to have testing for glaucoma and/or cataracts as eye dr noted "open angle with borderline findings, high risk. " Hemorrhaging in my right eye. Went through testing and Dr. states I don't have glaucoma and to schedule in a year for cataract testing and to have dr. "tweak my prescription for glasses." Continued to have discomfort in my right eye so I called Raleigh Ophtha and went back in on 1/31/2025. The doctor I saw the second time was short and wouldn't allow me to finish explaining. It was a waste of my time and money as I had to pay 2 co-pays. Left there not knowing where to go from here. I will not be going back here again. You are just a number and they try and get you in and out in no time. If a doctor doesn't have the time to explain you won't continue to be my eye doctor. So dissatisfied with how I was treated. Many of the reviews here were nothing like my experiences with the office. Today I had my annual appointment. Dr Adam discussed my issues with my current glasses and suggested a discussion I could have when being measured for a new pair. Not rushed at all. In Jan./Feb. 2024, had L. & R. cataract surgery, done by Dr. Laber. Both times were very good experiences. The procedures went smoothly & well with good outcomes. Then, in Nov., I had eyelift surgery on both eyes. This, done by Dr. Johnson. While there were some twinges during the op, there was no strong or hard to manage discomfort. Dr. Johnson, as Dr. Laber, did a fine job. I am well pleased with all of my eye treatment accomplished this year by the fine staff at Ral. Ophthalmology. read more

AVOID AT ALL COST scheduled an appointment with Dr. JORDAN in February 2024 for a June appointment (4 months waiting) and when I called in June I was told that there is no appointment logged in their system so the next available appointment is in October. my primary care provider referred me to Raleigh Opthamology. After a 2 month wait for an appt. I was called by office staff to be told that Dr. Bobbie Gupta was choosing to cancel my appt. 30 minutes beforehand as the Dr. does not accept my insurance. Then I was told it would be June before they reschedule me with a Dr. who does take my insurance. Any trust in this practice is destroyed and I was at urgent care 2 days ago where they said I needed to follow up with an ophthalmologist. So sad to be treated with an attitude of indifference and too bad that's how we are handling your care. read more

I had gone here previously for the same problem so my chart was completely accessible to them when I set my appointment. I called and asked if they provided laser service to get rid of floaters in the field of vision and I was assured on the phone they did. I presented my insurance and went through several more tests and then waited in the exam room only to have the doctor come in and tell me they did not offer this servuce....... My insurance was fully billed. Not only was I frustrated and angry but went through a lot of unnecessary physical discomfort with these exams. Now they have the nerve to say that they failed to bill me $50 additional that insurance will now not pay on the bill. This will never be paid by me, Never. The bottom line is you cannot rely on this practice, their billing, or the knowledge of their staff. Dr. Patel is not professional. read more

I had an appointment with Dr Riske from my optometrist referral with the earliest appointment a year away. Three days before this appointment I was told it was cancelled with the earliest appointment in 3 months. I requested and saw another MD inthe Wakefield office. He referred me to Dr Adam, a cataract specialist. This office offered to schedule me in their office as it wasnt as busy as the Blue Ridge office. They said the workup would take a couple of hours. I chose the Raleigh office as I live close to there. The office waiting area was full when I arrived. After a short wait, I was checked in. They informed me they were 20 minutes behind. After 30-40 minutes I went back for testing. After testing I had to wait for the doctor, for 20 min. All along the way, I was treated in an informed and professional manner. I found the staff to be competent and friendly. The doctor was great! She explained my situation and offered options. I appreciate her direct and informative manner which allowed me to make a decision. In general, I found this practice to be very well run. They are well staffed and everyone seemed to know what they were doing. Reading previous comments, I suspect all runs well until there is a hiccup...a late appointment or more complicated patient. My experience with Dr Adam was agood one. I would not hesitate to recommend her read more

I called 4 days in advance to cancel my appointment. The front desk person said it was notated. 5 days later I got a text message from the office saying I was a no show to my appointment. When I called to discuss the text, the front desk person brazenly told me I owed a $40 fee if I scheduled an appointment with them. I explained that I didn't no show, I cancelled the appointment 4 days prior, she told me I needed to speak with the manager. I called multiple days at various times for the past 3 weeks for the manager who is supposed to resolve. However somehow she is always "out of office." Laura, the manager only called once and left a voicemail. When I called minutes later, the staff could not find her. Staff took done my name and phone number for a call back on several occasions, but guess what? She still hasn't called me back. They are super unresponsive and unprofessional. I can't speak to the level of service because I never got in there. My local optometrist referred me to Raleigh Ophthalmology last December when I was found to need cataract surgery. They called to set an appointment and said they could see me in MAY, six months later. I initially scheduled the appointment but called my optometrist back and got a referral to a different group who could see me the next week. I had both eyes completed months before I would have had an eval with Raleigh Ophthalmology. Perhaps they are excellent at what they do but the wait wasn't worth it when there are other groups just as good (I went to Duke Eye Care) and easier to get into. read more

made an appointment to for an exam to get a laser procedure for floaters. I even asked on the phone and was told that they did this procedure so I made an appointment. After an interminably long wait I went in for an extremely arduous and long and expensive eye exam. Again I waited with my eyes dilated for a long period of time only to have her come in and tell me they don't do this procedure there and they never have..... So I then proceed to check out and submit my insurance information and was told my bill was paid in full. A few weeks later I started getting bill after bill mailed to my home demanding fifty more dollars! I called several times and told them not only did I not appreciate being lied to and torture'd and having my time wasted for nothing but that they had some nerve after scamming my medical insurance out of money to demand more money from me.. What did they do? They reported me to the credit bureau ! Now I get harassed at least fifteen times a week by bill collectors so Dr Patel can get her pound of flesh. Do not use her services. You will get scammed. Your insurance will get scammed. And you will walk away much much worse for having entered her office. Beware. read more

Patient for multiple years, by referral from PCP. Office visits were always great, but once visit was over, the efforts to obtain prescription renewals were troublesome, requiring multiple phone calls mostly initiated by me, as office did not follow-up well or at all most of the time. My assigned physician, Dr. Constans left the practice recently, with a need for me to obtain a prescription renewal prompted by another specialty practice inadvertently deleting my script on eMAR for Lotemax. A new physician, Logan Smith, would not renew prescription unless I return to the office for another appointment during the same coverage year already established by Dr. Constans on the previous script. In essence, pay twice for an office visit to obtain what the practice had already honored and had been paid for. I cancelled my 2025 appointment and have nullified my continued need for this practice. I will instead seek a different ophthalmologist practice with improved professional practices. read more

I am a senior lady who recently had eyelid surgery to help with my peripheral vision. I had Bells Palsy many years ago which caused my lid to drop. He did a wonderful job!!! Before the operation he stopped by the bed and chatted with me and it helped a lot. He is kind and patient with older patients. Thank you again Dr Johnson for restoring my vision. Also a big shout out to Kimberly the surgery coordinator, who returned my phone calls and did not rush me when I was asking questions. All in all a great office/doctor team. read more

I tried making an appointment for a friend who cannot see how to dial the phone because she has glaucoma. I live several miles away from my friend. After a long hold I finally got a receptionist on the phone. She would not make an appointment unless my friend could confirm it. I asked that she call my friend and she refused to do it. The only way I can make an appointment for my blind friend is to physically go to her house and have her beside me. This is so uncaring and with this kind of policy for the blind, I definitely question the care that she would receive. Such a disappointment! read more

I was both offended and disgusted by my experience at Raleigh Ophthalmology this morning. One of the staff at the reception desk had her mask around her chin when I walked in. Her nose was red. As I approached the front desk, this woman pulled her mask up -- but it still kept falling below her nose. She continued to cough and cough and cough. This woman was clearly sick. The waiting room was filled with elderly patients. During COVID, there was no excuse for this woman to be in the office. Why a reputable ophthalmology practice would not have immediately sent this woman home instead of having her feet from all incoming patients was baffling. I did not wait for my appointment but instead turned around and walked out. read more

This was my first visit to Raleigh Opthamology. The front desk staff was friendly, but I feel like they should have told me when I signed in that they were more than an hour behind schedule and let me have the option of rescheduling at that point since they were clearly overbooked. I waited for almost an hour and a half to be taken back for an exam. Dr. Jordan and the assistants were all very friendly, and the exam was thorough. However, I was sent back to the waiting room after getting the dilation drops and waited another 35 minutes to be brought back for the actual exam. I do truly appreciate the thorough exam. I definitely wouldn't want to be pushed through quickly simply to stay on schedule; however, I think they severely overbooked appointments. I was gone from work for too long. I would suggest that they not overbook to such an extreme degree, and if they find themselves running hours behind schedule, they should call non-urgent appointments and ask if they are willing to reschedule in order to alleviate the backlog. read more

After having my first cataract removal surgery done, I went in for the follow up two days later. I waited for my 1pm appointment for an hour and a half, 30 minutes of which I was the only person in the waiting room. Nobody came out to apologize or nothing. I was clearly the last patient of the day and felt like they forgot about me. Later, after having my second eye surgery, the receptionist called to schedule my follow-up for 2pm. I expressed my concerns of waiting again where she then proceeded to argue with me. I'm happy with my surgeries...great vision now after the surgeries... the doctor was great, but the staff is horrendous. read more

Have been coming here about once a year for last 3 years after my primary doctor referred me to them. My experience was not good. 3 specific things. 1) all my 4 appointments were taken an hour late. And except one time, no one even bothered to acknowledge/apologize for being late. 2) double billed me last year, had to get it fixed after calling. 3) I called them up a few days ago get a copy of my latest eyeglass prescription. I asked them for an email, or even simply say it over phone, , they said no because of HIPA privacy rules. (But they would send to ANY fax number though, weird) and then I grudgingly accept to have that posted to me via snail mail. And today, I get the letter from them , and voila!! They have an online check in system, which you will get multiple alerts on your phone and email to use before you arrive. Don't do it. You'll just waste your time sitting in your car uploading insurance cards and signing forms only to be told by the lady at the desk that she needs it all over again because "it doesn't always transfer over" read more

I had an appointment at 1pm only to be seen and waiting for 3hrs. It seems as if this office is always overbooked. Very inconsiderate for patients. Also the actual waiting rooms are small and limited seating. Most patients are older and require seating. Some were having to stand for long periods of time. Unacceptable! read more

When I arrived it took ten minutes to do paper work orally because they had not sent it in advance. The ophtalmologist I saw could not perform what seems like a routine procedure (embedded hair in my eye). He referred me to someone else in the practice, but the scheduler became confused over the code and even though I explained it to her, she took about 15 minutes to figure it out and then in her confusion, accidentally rescheduled me with the same doctor (this after she tried to make me wait almost 3 weeks). I only found out that she had rescheduled me with the same doctor when I got the reminder text the next day. When I called to point out their mistake, I was put on a long hold and then they told me it would be almost 3 weeks before I could get in. Again, I have something stuck in my eye. And I easily found another practice who is able to get me in same day. The incompetence combined with difficulty scheduling is why I am giving one star. For such a large place, things seem to be a mess. read more

While I had a good repport with the Eye Specialist I met with, the business practices of this office are clearly designed for the comfort and convenience of the STAFF. I placed a call to a Annika Udesen who is suppose to be the Surgery Coorinator who insists that I complete forms for surgery on line with my computer. My computer is not working therefore I cannot fulfill HER requirments. When I reached out with a phone call, HER recorded message stated she would get back to me within 2 business days. So I assume I'm suppose to walk around with my cell phone waiting for her to call me back for two days or whenever it is convenient for HER. Also there is a LONG wait in the waiting room (over an hour) to see the Dr. even though you have an appointment. I find it highly inappropriate for ANY Medical Office to put the patients time on hold as though the patient doesn't have a life. This office CLEARLY agrees to demonstrate bad business practices in the name of what is convient for the staff. I was referred here by my MD who will be hearing about my expierence. read more
